i'm using the jelly bean rom from http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1372690 and when i try to switch to the 'thumb keyboard' using the switch keyboard button on the default keyboard, nothing happens. I downloaded GO keyboard and it says it has stopped working if i try to switch to it.
i even try to switch to google voice typing and nothing happens. It's stuck with the default google keyboard. I can't even use the voice dictation button.
What the heck is going on?
um thats a kernel what you linked .... do you mean your on stock JB or a custom JB Rom if so which one , try freezing the stock keyboard and then proceed to use your keyboard of choice

nevermind. after a few more restarts, the keyboard came up, but the voice dictation button still doesn't do anything.

2 Questions
1) In Root Toolbox, there are 2 selections under 'other'... 1 being ICS Fonts and the other being ICS Sounds. I DL'd both, but was only able to find and install the fonts in recovery, successfully. I downloaded the ICS Sounds again, and still have no clue where it is, and since I don't see it, I don't know how to install it.
2) I have swype installed but every time I restart my phone I end up with the default keyboard, and I HAVE to go to the keyboard menu and enable swype, THEN go to a typing area and selection input and then click Swype. This happens everytime.
Currently running Decks 1.3d, but that probably doesn't matter...
I've installed the Jelly Bean Keyboard apk (sideloaded). Every time there is an input screen up (open text message, email, or even the password screen when locked), there is an option to change input method.
Is there a way to get the option screen key to disappear? Its just... annoying. thanks!
Have you tried Settings-->Language and Input--> select jelly bean keyboard?
yes, the correct keyboard is being used.
I just want the option button that shows up during all input screens to stop showing.
The menu that keeps popping up is the "Select Input Method" menu even though the JB keyboard is selected and is in use, the menu always like to show up.
so annoying.
Have you gone to Settings>Launguage and Input and unchecked all other keyboards that you can uncheck and make sure the JB one is under Default.

Yes,
JB is default. As for selected keyboards in settings, JB is selected and so is "Samsung keyboard" which I can not uncheck.

Install titanium backup and freeze the samsung keyboard.
After the JB update, whenever I reboot the phone, the keyboard keeps on return to Swype, even after I have the default keyboard set to others. Does anyone else has this problem? Any possible solution? I heard that it will be fixed on 4.1.2 but its probably won't be release until next year

Yes I changed the default keyboard and every time I restart the phone it goes back to samsung keyboard. (sorry said swype before but it was actually samsung keyboard)
I am currently using another keyboard that support other language and set it to default but everytime I reboot the phone, it switch back to samsung keyboard.
I have this exact same problem, except I am trying to use Swiftkey 3. Every time I reboot the phone it returns to the stock keyboard and I have to go back in the menus and select Swiftkey as the default.

When you go to Language and Input, the default shown is the one we selected, but the keyboard is NOT the default one.
This is the link I was talking about. It could be a bug in 4.1.1 that will be fix in 4.1.2
Nvm
could be a bug in it not being installed properly, or just needing a factory reset. I've read that the factory reset fixes it, and more so that it doesn't happen to those who wiped data and such before installing a custom rom.

I did factory reset before installing this firmware.
I download the entire firmware (Stock T-mobile JB) from sammobile and install it using Odin
not happen to me. I tried to reset the phone and swiftkey is still intact.
It tends to have bugs after update in android. I suggest updating via OTA since this way does't give me any bugs. When I did update via Odin, I got bugs. Also, you should do factory reset AFTER updating, not before updating. so yeah try to do a factory reset.
Don't know what to tell you guys I tried swiftkey smart keyboard and 4.2 all stick after a reboot.

Sorry i forgot to say, I did a reset through recovery before and after updating.
Does the same thing on my phone as well, coming from a fresh Odin flash and factory reset. It is a known issue with jelly bean. I just froze the Samsung keyboard with TB as a workaround

Hello, guys. There is a "simple" fix: just to make Swype the only one keyboard. So you make root and uninstall Samsung and any other keyboards with Titanium backup))

You don't need to uninstall just freeze them.

I have rebooted twice now and each time, I've had to go into Languages/input to select swiftkey as my default keyboard.
Anyone else having similar issue?

OMG how ironic, I was just about to make a thread for that same thing.
I'm pretty sure it's a bug with Swiftkey and JB.
I've run the Sprint JB build on my AT&T GS3, as well as some custom ROMs, and they all do the same. The OS reverts back to the Samsung keyboard upon reboot and you have to reselect Swiftkey.
The only way I was able to fix it, is when I was debloating a ROM for flashing. I deleted the Samsung Keyboard and put in a stock AOSP keyboard. After that I never had the problem again.
Unfortunately I don't know what files to delete for the Samsung Keyboard once the ROM is flashed. It's easy when you have the CWM flashable ROM to manipulate it before you flash.
I am not sure if it is a Swiftkey bug or a bug in the Samsung Keyboard cause without the Samsung keyboard even installed, it doesn't have that bug.
I've had no beef with SwiftKey.

Turn your phone off and back on and see if it defaults back to the Samsung Keyboard.
I've seen in some threads people with other keyboards than Swiftkey are also having this issue.
It only happens when you reboot the phone.

Same here. No problems whatsoever with SwiftKey after reboots.
I have too.
Rooted, disabled Samsung keyboard and Swype with TiBu.
No more problems.
No issues with Swiftkey staying as my default keyboard after rebooting. Stock, unrooted Bell 4.1.1 update.
My swype default remained as it is after reboot.

Ok being as I don't have a CWM firmware flash to mess with, I guess I'm going to have to do some things manually.
So for me to disable the Samsung Keyboard, do I just need to go into the system/app folder and either delete or rename the SamsungIME.apk and SamsungIME.odex?
I don't use Titanium, so I don't have a resource to freeze an app. Plus I prefer to actually delete it if I am not using it anyway.
Also, I have the stock AOSP 4.1 JB Keyboard I had installed with my Custom Sprint build I was using, but I just injected that into the firmware before flashing. To install the APK fo that, I just basically need to put it on the internal or external SD card and in file explorer just install it that way?
Thanks.

After installing go to languages and input and check Android Key board
Hope it will be useful.
Download and Install
Now, getting it on your device is going to be easy for some of you, and less easy for others. You'll need to be on Android 4.0+, to start.
If you're on a phone with a UI overlay that has the stock keyboard disabled (eg, Samsung TouchWiz, HTC Sense, Sony), you can just download the apk below- no root required. To install, make sure you have "install from unknown sources" enabled in your phone settings, and after installation, go into your phone's keyboard settings and enable "Android keyboard." Then, you can switch to the new keyboard. This may also work on some "stock" Android custom ROMs - but it will not work on stock Android builds distributed by Google.
Get the apk here: http://d-h.st/XuS
If the apk doesn't work, you're running a phone that is either A.) running stock Android (as in, AOSP), or B.) running software that has the stock Android keyboard as an option, you'll need to download this ZIP file, and flash it in recovery. That also means you're going to need root. as you'll be writing to /system/apps. Before you do, though, either back up the stock keyboard (if you don't know how, you probably shouldn't be doing this) or create a full image backup, just in case. Here's that ZIP file:
