[Q] soft bricked galaxy nexus - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

I rooted my galaxy nexus i9250 about 1 week ago, I then got a new system update on my phone for the new version of jelly bean, having not really thought about it (yes i know this was incredibly stupid), i downloaded this new update and installed it. Massive mistake, my phone is now stuck on the galaxy nexus screen and i cannot get into my phone. I also have no backup of my phone so if my phone is now soft bricked will i loose all my contacts, messages and photos etc. so basically what i want to know is..... can i unbrick my phone and if so can i do it and save all my data (photos, sms and contacts etc). please any help will be greatly appreciated.
Thanks

if still in a bootloop, unfortunately you must wipe data or flash userdata.img

Data recovery through a flash dump

I was in the process of rooting my phone (and tried unlocking it) and I am not sure what happened but after the phone came back, I got the root but my data got wiped out. Apparently, I found out that some phones do this for security reasons. I must have been careless and done something wrong. Now, because Galaxy Nexus uses MTP, it is technically not possible to mount it as a disk drive and use conventional PC-based recovery software.
Theoretically speaking, shouldn't it be possible to take a flash dump of the internal disk and use an offline utility such as extundelete to recover my lost data? I saw this idea posted in this thread but no one followed up on it.
Any suggestions on how I can hack around?

Technically maybe.... if the partition is not zero'ed. But you would need to find some way to dump the userdata partition. You can't dump it to somewhere on the device, so you would need to somehow dump that partition to an external drive. Maybe you could look at trying this out. (I haven't had the chance to try it out myself yet.)
Did this work?
So, did this work?
I ran into the same problem with my nexus.
I have no skills with ADB at all, so before I jump into trying to learn anything to be able to take a flash dump, I was hoping that someone could report back as to whether or not this worked.
Thank you!

Photo Recovery
During a recent trip outside the country, I purchased a prepaid sim card for my unlocked, bought directly from Google, Galaxy Nexus. During this time, the OTA update for JB was released and I updated my phone with the new firmware. After completing the update, I was unable to make phone calls or receive any signal whatsoever. I contacted my domestic carrier T-Mobile who instructed me to do a factory reset. Unfortunately, I did not make a back up of the video footage of my family (Holocaust survivors). Currently the phone does not have a baseband or IMEI number and I have been unable to recover my photos. Any help or suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Here is what I have done so far:
Photo Recovery
1. Attempted to restore a previous backup – No backup was made previously!!!!!!UGH!
2. Unlocked Bootloader with ADB. ADB Pull / Media – Nothing….
3. ADB pull / partition – Only received system files, no media files.
4. Tried to Use data recovery software PhotoRec. – would not recognize internal drive on Galaxy Nexus (USB Debugging on/off, Samsung drivers loaded correctly, Camera mode: nada)
5. Tried to use multiple different online photo recovery software. None could detect the phone’s drive when scanning.
IMEI/Baseband missing Issue
1. Re-flashed original firmware using WugFresh’s Nexus Root Toolkit. No dice.
2. Attempted to flash alternative ROM.
3. Re-flashed radio via NRToolkit and ADB
4. Attempted to use apps: HC-ktool, GetRill Premium- nada
The goal is to firstly restore the wiped data and retrieve the photos. Then to fix the missing baseband issue. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

In your case I'm thinking you're s.o.l. First, when unlock the bootloader the phone gets wiped. So when you tried to pull....there was nothing to pull. Data recovery won't work because can't mount gnex as mass storage. Then you tried...three different flashes..? I'm gonna have to say it's gone. Just go back to stock.

Having the same issue as Buzzbox - i.e. missing baseband and IMEI. In my case JB 4.1.1 was working just fine, when the phone simply restarted, and the baseband and IMEI vanished.
Phone came with ICS, after which i had recieved OTA jellybean - but this was a month ago. Didnt install any custom ROMs.
To try and fix this, i flashed factory image of ICS - but still nothing on IMEI and baseband. Help please...
You can recover data from android phones with data recovery software, see this solution: android data recovery
helped me before. Easy to follow and worked well for me.

[Q] (help) cannot return to stock, sd now gone?

Hey guys,
I recently upgraded phones and I wanted to return my nexus to stock so I could resell it. I did this just fine about 2 months ago for a warranty repair. well, somehow I have been unsuccessful in trying to return this nexus to stock. My first attempt was to download the stock image and use the nexus toolkit, didn't work. So, I went into recovery and flashed a backup to see if this would make a difference. still nothing. I tried galaxynexusrestorevzw.exe tool and that didn't work. also tried another restore program and that didn't work.
The virtual SD was not showing up but now.... I just checked it and the memory is all cleared out. but it says I am running..
Android 4.1
Kernal 3.0.36-tuna-faux123-jb-019+
build vicious jelly bean.
now that my memory card seems to have showed back up I think I will try one more time. if anybody know anything that could help me out I would appreciate it. Sorry for being a noob
shocking... used a toolkit and it failed and you got lost

[Q] GNEX stuck on boot animation twice in 3 months

My Gnex which is 3 months old stuck at boot animation twice in 3 months. first time it was on 4.0.1 ICS and now on 4.1.1 Jelly bean both stock. on the both occasions i did factory reset and lost all my important data. Is this an hardware issue? because i got the problem after turning the bluetooth on for sending the photos on both the occasions.
What is the best thing to do so that my data is safe when next time this situation comes.
I came to know that with usb debugging on we can backup the data even in the boot loop. is it true? and can i keep the usb debugging option always ON on my Gnex.
If this is an software issue then it is very sad since it is coming from the stock android and on the nexus line.
Today 22/5/2013
Again Gnex stuck on bootloop, this time i got the problem, whenever i switch on bluetooth on the phone to connect it with my laptop, it is going into the bootloop, on the previous two occasions, it got stuck when i was trying to transfer through bluetooth though only with laptop, it works fine with other phones.
Is this a hardware problem or software problem, Please help
Nowhere near enough info for anyone to help. Was this after you flashed a rom? What gnex variant do you have?

Best thing to do is root your nexus. Get on the latest update. Another thing you could do is backup your sdcard to your PC using adb or any other means. Or use a cloud service to backup your data.
If you can get into recovery then you should be able to adb pull your data. I usually leave debugging on but not sure how safe it is.

You might want to look into hak5.org's tutorial by the koz on how a phone with debugging always enabled is open to some exploits. Though, that comes with the territory. I'd reflash the system.img. To keep the data safe, backup often. You may be able to pull it if needed, and adb backup, but you'd need a custom recovery first. Which means root or unlocked bootloader, which comes with a data wipe. Could it be the bluetooth device with which the phone is interacting? Or do you have the issue as soon as you make the phone visible?

Not bricked but won't get past initial start up screen

Hi.
My son's Galaxy Nexus (Verizon) is having some serious issues. HE has been crack flashing everything under the son (Just like his data) and recently he tried a 4.3 rom (Not sure which one). He started to get random crashes so he flashed back to one of the 4.2.2 rom. Then the phone started crashing all the time so I hooked it up the the Nexus toolkit (I assume it is the one everyone uses) and decided to do a full wipe. The phone was basically two folders and would not boot past the Google logo.
When I hooked it up to the tool kit software it was recognized and I flashed the stock (VZ) rom, no root. When I booted the phone it would go to the start screen looking for WiFi and when I tried to go through the start up process the phone would lock up and reboot. I cannot get past this point to do any troubleshooting.
So is this a hardware issue (The phone is toast) or am I missing something as far as doing a complete wipe to get back to bone stock?
Thank you for your help. (I have as well as my son have been trolling this site and others looking for answers but since I can boot up most did not apply, I think)

Right off the bat, do NOT use toolkits anymore. Please. You need to learn how to use Fastboot.
The best thing to do is start completely fresh. Download latest Galaxy Nexus factory images and fastboot them.
If you have no idea how to use fastboot, I suggest going to this thread and reading up my man: [GUIDE]New To Adb And Fastboot Guide
Any other questions or help I can gladly answer.

*Please Help* -- Note 2 boot loop after factory reset.

Hey guys,
I know there are a few threads like this, but its probably easier if i explain what I done and how it happened sort of thing.
Basically I had a phone upgrade from my Note 2 and got a Samsung Galaxy S5... So now I want to sell my Note 2 which was ROOTED, but still had the Stock ROM installed as I just wanted it rooted for apps like Greenify, etc.
Anyway, so it was a fresh phone I did a Factory Wipe/Clean from the recovery (its the purple gradient one, might be TWRP) and then I wiped the cache.
all was fine, but i noticed after the phone reset there was still some of my apps and documents on the phone, so I did a Factory Reset through the phone software itself ("Backup and Reset") in the settings menu.
Anyway, now it is stuck in a bootloop and I have no clue what to do, please help as it is money down the drain otherwise.
Many Thanks in advance.
