clarification about flashing methods (Bootlader, ODIN, fastboot) - Galaxy Note 8.0 (Tablet) Q&A, Help & Troubleshooti

Hello,
In short my question is:
Is there a way to always get back its device into working state (even if Recovery Menu is corrupted).
by using ODIN menu for instance to reflash bootloader
Long version:
Through this topic I was willing to gather some knowledge on the different way to modify a Stock device (possibilities, risks, )
Everywhere we can see "Be carefull, your device could be damaged, do at own your risk" and on...but what is the real risk undertook behind that warning?
I start from an original device (Official stock rom, unrooted).
Before going further, here is the summary of some info on the different methods I could see:
-Official Samsung recovery menu accessible holding Vol. UP + Home + Power Button while starting device
-> a the way to flash OFFICIAL ROM directly on the device (without using a computer)
-Official Samsung ODIN menu interface accessible holding Vol. Down + Home + Power Button while starting device
-> a way to flash ANY ROM on the device but using software computer ODIN
-A Fastboot menu accessible holding Vol. Down + Vol. Up + Power Button while starting device
-> which I don't know exactly what it is doing
First step to get a modified device would be changing Official Recovery bootloader into Custom one in order to patch unofficial rom later on.
For doing that, ODIN menu (which has the ability to flash NON OFFICIAL image) is used to replace the bootlader with a custom one (e.g. CWM: Clock Work Mod).
Once the new Custom Bootloader is present, it can freely flash ROM. (which should be without danger, as if a ROM is corrupted it can be flashed again with the Bootlader which is always present)
My guess is now, what happen if the bootloader is broken?
Let's say I want to try to run a linux distro on the device which required to modify bootlader to boot directly on Linux instead of Android.
As I would normally think, ODIN menu is still there to enable flashing back another Bootloader and get the device back to working? Is that right?
Regarding ODIN, does anyone know if this is the safe mode which cannot be altered and is always able to bring back the device to normal?
Thanks for giving me any insight on this subject, as I am eager to do some experiment with my device but would be sure not doing anything wrong.

Going back to stock, HELP!

I have a question that may sound simple to you guys but too me its not. I would like to know how to go back to complete, stock. Stock Rom, Stock Kernel, Stock baseband. So pretty much out of the box. I had a Nandroid but I accedentaly deleted it. I just want to flash stock and the click on software update on my phone and be up too date on my carrier. I have the Sgh-T999V Videotron S 3, My baseband is : T999VVLLH2
I am currently on Infamous Rom v4.5.
Someone please help me I just want stock. Roms arent good for me. Detailed instructions if possible.
This is a post I found on here, with some modification from my part:
Go here to download your firmware: http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/ - Put in your model number under search, it will come up.
Will look something like this: http://gyazo.com/719e8730e6edda5bfce2409cd5a44207
Place it where you will find it, maybe like your desktop / documents, etc. if it is downloaded as zip, extract it to retrieve the md5 file.
Download kies from samsung website as well
- Download Odin from this website: (http://www.android.gs/download-odin-1-85/)
- Put your device in restore mode: (press and hold home + volume up + power when device shutdown keep pressing only home and volume up until you see samsung logo)
- now wipe cache and wipe data
- Put your device in Download mode: (press and hold home + volume down + power when device shutdown keep pressing only home and volume down until you see samsung logo)
- press volume up: to go in download mode
- open Odin:, now uou see a com port added to odin (it's your phone)
- Make sure checkbox Auto Reboot and F. reset Time are checked. DO NOT CHECK RE-PARTITION!
- Click on PDA and select your firmware md5 file:
- when you are ready, click on start and wait
-Look for the word "Pass" in your odin, that means it is done flashing. Let the phone reboot on its own.
When your device is restarting you will see your stock firmware running
If for any reason you are stuck in bootloop after you are done flashing (it does not restart) Do not panic...Simply go into recovery mod and Factory reset, Wipe Partition, and reboot
That's the general concept...if you are more visual oriented or want even more information, go here: http://www.smartphonejam.com/2012/06/how-to-return-back-samsung-galaxy-s3-to.html

[Q] Help Needed - GT-N7102

Yes this is another GT-N7102 thread. Yes I did search for days trying to find a solution before posting here. Yes this phone is rooted (installed SuperUser but going through that process of setup and login into the Play Store every time is a pain). No there is no bloody Odin download mode just that infuriating Factory mode all in kanji (Vol Down + Power, holding down menu or not holding down menu still produces the factory mode).
One of the big problems I have is that when I reset to factory and setup the phone, when the phone is rebooted again, the boot loop starts all over. Hence I have only one shot to get it right while the phone is in the operating system before I have to do a wipe again to get out of the resulting loop.
I've been trying for days to get either the stock rom, a custom recovery, or a custom rom like CM installed on this device. I need some help on getting stock installed with maybe a custom recovery like CWM or TWRP, or at least pointed in the direction of the answer.
Information about this particular phone:
Model #: GT-N7102
Android Version: 4.1.1
Baseband Version: N7100XXALIE
Kernel Version: 3.0.31-178067 SMP PREEMPT
Build #: JRO03C.N7100ZSALIA
Custom Build Version: I968.7500A.02.02.I.A-V1.0.3B06R81
At reboot: Vol Down + Power = Factory menu in kanji (there is no Odin mode when pressing Vol up when in this mode, just scrolling through the options)
Vol Up + Power = Boot mode selection (options are recovery, fastboot, and reboot)
Is there any way to do what I am trying to accomplish or am I just screwed and trash the phone?
Thanks
Nin

1. Head to the download page, this is the UNmodified firmware provided ‘as is’ from Samsung/carrier servers.
2. After download is complete, extract the downloaded file and you should get a MD5 file.
3. Enter the download mode form your device [normally by holding the volume up button + home button + power button]
4. Connect your device to your PC.
5. Start Odin.
6. Odin should recognize your device, and you can tell so by seeing that the first slot from the upper left is taken, if not then you need to install a driver for your device. [I personally just download Kies and it automatically download the proper driver for your device]
7. Click on PDA from Odin and browse to the extracted MD5 file.
8. Press Start.
9. Do not unplug your device until the process is fully completed.
10. The phone will reboot and you should see a Pass! on Odin, which means the process was successfully accomplished.
This will turn your device condition back to it's stock condition [like it's brand new] ( no root- no custom ROM -no nothing)
Anyway if you wish to root do the same past steps but using this file.
Afterwards you can install a custom recovery with the same steps again using this file.
Don't proceed with any step of the past steps unless you fully understand every single one of them, if you have any difficulties understanding anything feel free to ask!
If I helped in any way, Hit the [thanks] button ( if I have one XD).

Please confirm or correct my Procedure to go from 5.02 to Rooted 5.11

Hi,
I have a rooted 5.02 (PingPong Root) with valid Knox (NOT Tripped). I would like to go to a Rooted 5.11 with a valid Knox (NOT Tripped). After Reading, here is what I think I should do. If you could, would someone please confirm or correct my procedure below.
Also, if someone has a better script for upgrading to 5.11 from 5.02, please do not hesitate to share. I would be most grateful.
Thanks,
-NJ
Get a copy of SBOOT.bin
Upgrade VIA OTA or KEIS to 5.11
Follow the instructions Here
From what I gather, once I Root using this method, there is no known fix for the busted Finger Print Scanner. Is this a correct statement?
The instructions from the above URL (Posted by pmichaelro) are as follows...
How to Root your SM-G925F (International S6 Edge):
This should work on both 5.0.2 and 5.1.1. I have upgraded to 5.1.1 before doing this.
I recommend you hold off on this operation if your device is still running 5.0.2 and don't want to upgrade to 5.1.1.
If you want to keep 5.0.2 and still perform this operation than you must use a compatible 5.0.2 Kernel and TWRP - posted below.
WARNING: Because of the engineering bootloader which is 5.0.2 you're going to lose the Fingerprint scanner. If you can live without it then proceed.
Root without tripping Knox and having all the functionality (keeping the Fingerprint scanner working) on 5.1.1 is not possible.
Only for 5.1.1, custom kernel and TWRP for 5.0.2 posted below + also a different method for 5.0.2
1. Download ODIN v 3.10.6 from http://forum.xda-developers.com/show....php?t=2711451 and extract it to a folder.
2. Search online/PM me for the engineering bootloader for your device G925F
3. Download the 3 archives from: http://forum.xda-developers.com/gala...d-5-1-t3144866
3.a.1 TWRP 2.8.7.1 for S6 Edge - https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24052804347765202
3.a.2 TWRP 2.8.7.1 for S6 - https://twrp.me/devices/samsunggalaxys6.html
3.b.1 Unikernel latest version - recommended kernel with so many benefits, now also working with devices that are using the enginnering bootloader (no need for 3.c. if choosing this kernel) - http://forum.xda-developers.com/show...php?p=60533128
3.b.2 Alex-V Kernel - works on a G925F that has an engineering bootloader. All the other ones mess with the display in a way that you'll get a white screen with greenish non-understandable ui elements - https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24052804347765201
3.c. Super SU - https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=24052804347765203
4. Disable Reactivation lock by going into Settings -> Lock screen and security -> Find My Mobile -> Login with your Samsung Account and then disable Reactivation lock
5. Disable Fingerprint screen lock type by going into Settings -> Lock screen and security -> Screen lock type and select any other screen type than Fingerprint
6. Copy to the your device's sdcard (phone): custom kernel and rest of downloaded files to flash
7. Shut down device and start in Download Mode (with the phone turned off keep pressing on power, volume down and home at the same time until a green screen pops up, then you'll need to press on the volume up key)
8. First you'll need to flash the engineering bootloader. Open ODIN and click on BT and select the appropriate sbin file downloaded at step 2. Flash it and wait for the device to reboot.
Don't be alarmed by the green text that will appear in the top left corner when the Samsung logo is being displayed. It's 100% normal and the device hasn't suffered any damage.
9. Enter Download Mode again and this time in ODIN, go to options and uncheck the Reboot device. Click on AP and select the TWRP 2.8.7.1 and flash it.
10. The device won't reboot because you've unchecked the Reboot device option. You'll need to press on power + volume down + home until the device turns off and then pres on power + volume up + home until you'll see the device enter the TWRP recovery. At that point the buttons can be released.
11. Inside TWRP press on Install and navigate to where you have stored the custom kernel and rest of the files. Select the custom kernel (then add another zip to flash and then select Super SU if using Alex-V kernel). Flash them and reboot your device.
12. Congratulations now you have a rooted G925F with Knox fuse intact!
All credits for rooting and installing TWRP on G925F go to Alex-V, AndreiLux, simple Team, chainfire
The research on which kernel is going to root and work perfectly with a G925F that has an engineering bootloader installed go to me. A lot of trial and error, white & greenish screen, overheat etc...
Anyone?

Unlocking your phone doesn't change much
ROOT:
Get these files first: Samsung USB Drivers, TWRP, SuperSU, and ODIN (select version 3.12.3). Extract ODIN.
Next, make sure OEM Unlocking and USB Debugging is turned on in the developer settings (go to settings -> about device -> build number and tap it 7-8 times)
Boot your s6 egg into download mode by turning your phone off, and holding down power button + home button + volume down button. Plug your phone into your computer. Open up Odin, and put the TWRP tar file into AP. Press Start, and as soon as PASS shows up, your device should reboot.
Move the SuperSU zip onto your device, and then turn off your phone.
Now boot it into recovery (power+home+volume up and hold), and TWRP should load up. Select Install, and navigate to where you put the SuperSU file. Tap on it, and swipe to flash the file. After it runs through, reboot your phone by selecting reboot from the menu. It may boot several times, but you should be good to go. This root method works 95% of the time ( I used it and it's good)
If you want to flash a custom kernel and/or ROM, go to their respective XDA threads for specific instructions.
sir thanks for the reply one last question. I'm using other carrier, specifically i'm not in the United States, i can well use my phone like an unlocked one. Is there a chance that if i mod this one it would lock itself? thanks

SIM Unlocks are specific to a device, not it's operating system. Flashing a custom ROM will not remove the SIM lock. You world have to either use the T-Mobile device unlock app or use another application to network unlock your device.
hands down easy to follow rooting sir! thank yoso much for the help. just to verify what custom rom are you using? if any

Hello
Mohd Masab
It's my first Samsung .I had 4-5 Sony ,easy to root ,a Doogee S90 (NEVER BUY THAT !).
Is your method safe ,have U seen bad effects ,what fonctions did U lost ?
Bye .
Fred
Okay, so I completed the whole process, here are my observations:
The method provided above almost works. The problem is, that everytime you reboot to system when you are not rooted, TWRP will encrypt your files. So the solution is, that you have to format data and then install dm_verity and Magisk after each other, without a reboot! After that, you can boot to your system and set up your phone.

Hi, I am having problems with internal storage, I can not create folders and there are applications that I can not download, any solution?
Could someone tell me if it is compatible with the November update CTK1?
I have managed to root the phone, you can install everything and configure it, but after turning off the phone, I can't start it does bootloop, and it returns to the prompt "The phone is not running Smasung official software ..." never finishes starting? What do you recommend me to do?

I reloaded the original rom and did the procedure again, taking into account the clarification of installing install dm_verity and Magisk after each other, without a reboot, and everything went well!
Hello abraxasboot !

No other problem since that ?
Is the phone reacting well ?

I was unable to flash and reboot into TWRP recovery after applying the official Samsung update from March, which updates Android from 10 to 11. Reboot into recovery would not work and I would always end in a boot loop.
I had to downgrade to Samsung's official Android 10 and used the binaries from January for that: https://samfrew.com/es/model/SM-A515F
After that, flashed TWRP again and was able to boot into recovery right away as it should be
If I follow the steps and flash twrp-a51-3.5.0_10-1_ianmacd.tar file using Odin I get an message:
'Only official release binaries are allowed to be flashed (RECOVERY)
The phone was recently purchased from Samsung official store, and has android 10 official firmware from feb 1st installed
Any clue please?
hey guys i used a lyf wind 1 to flash lineage os using twrp ..... so i wiped the previous os and unknowingly flashed another unsupported version of twrp ...when entering to recovery menu its all blank .... now i have no os and recovery ...... i couldnt flash stock rom because my device is not recognised as qualcomm port .............
pls any help ????
I have a working 11R twrp and all the DRM passers mejestics etc. to run.. you can boot the os after that that is the standard Samsung OS. np u can install LINAGE os 18.1 Andys march release, the Mejestics meaning u can patch root without Needing to part the orignal Firm and copy boot.img over. etc
Here is Link With GSI as Well and 2.5 GUI Twrp working and UI3.0
