Hey guys
I have spent the last couple of days looking for a way to make this work. I am running paranoid android 3.97 and can't find a 4.1.1 ROM to flash using cwm from my phone to use the free unlock method. Without a computer I am restricted to custom Roms. How should I go about getting my device unlocked?

I'm looking for a free method. All the links I can find to custom 4.1.1 Roms are dead. Anybody have a working one?
Downgrade for device unlock can be performed using just the modem...
Then once the unlock is complete you can replace the older modem with the latest and your unlock will remain. ..
Check the "everything" thread in the development section for modems in .zip form...g

I'm rooted with a custom recovery running M919UVUAMDB.
So if i get it right. Only way to upgrade is to
Odin to stock.
Upgrade and break root.
Root with upgrade.
Re Flash upgraded stock.
Pretty much. Or you can use Skies to do recovery to the lastest firmware, then root again.

Been searching for last hour or two and this is only thread I've found this specific topic. Just got S4 today coming from a GNex so somethings are new to me.
Is there a detailed instructions somewhere on how to do this?
I'm also rooted on M919UVUAMDB and trying to figure out the best way to upgrade to MDL so that I can re-root again.
Install Kies. Under Tools setting, select recovery and put your phone to download mode. Let Kies do the rest.

Thanks for clarifying. Just to double check, would cwm recovery affect the kies firmware recovery process?
No. Kies would wipe it off during recovery process and install the latest firmware.

lol I've searched around too, but made my own conclusions. ahha
Not attempting to promote any particular roms but Wicked v2 is running mdl update with the mdb modem and radio and smoother than silk on s4, Revolt requires manualy updating with setuidremoval but has a great writeup how to do so as does Infamous S4, I personally can confirm Revolt and Wicked are working flawless as long as the minimal theming currently in both is fine with you.

I'm trying to unlock my at&t S3 to work on T-mobile, however every link I've tried seems to be dead.
I need the 1747 4.1.1 Stock Rom so I can downgrade and proceed with the following tutorial (http://www.cellphoneunlockbuddy.com/sample-page/)
Also side question:
My MTP is failing to install on my drivers. Is there a reason for this??
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1968625
Not sure about the stock rom, but in the case of the drivers, put your phone into download mode (VolDown+Power+Home) and connect it to your PC. This trick always works if for some reason your computer doesn't recognize your phone

No idea. I was trying to flash back to stock a bit ago and all the sticky links were dead. Another user provided that link where 4.1.1 was dead too but I ended up flashing that 4.0.4 and OTAing to 4.1.2. Looks like 4.1.1 is up again though.

Also if any are concerned I was running cleanROM and rooted until recently, I am back to stock unrooted and done so by flashing latest Telus ROM from Sammobile thats it I am not aware of the triangle or flash counts state .... or what ever it is but I haven't done triangle away.
I got the update through the check for updates feature but wasn't notified of the update.

Bell rolling it out too! Update is about 700 MB
My device says that I changed something so I cannot update anymore. I'll have to go the Odin route instead.

Thanks, I too am on Cleanrom on Rogers. So if I understand what you've done to get back to stock, simply download the official 4.1.2 for Rogers (in my case), install via ODIN and that will remove the root? I found the latest 4.3 for Rogers on Sammobile so I guess once I've downgraded to 4.1.2 I can ODIN the 4.3

Is it safe to say your 4.3 is available for you?
That is exactly what I did... but I still haven't installed 4.3 so I don't know if it will be successful due to the flash counter any way.
Still not backed up yet but once I am I'll be trying it!
Let me know how it goes for you.

You should go back to stock before making an update from Samsung. Some custom ROM don't play well with stock rom and can cause either glitches or either not being able to boot.

Get the bell 4.3 rom from Sammobile and flash via ODIN thats it!
Also after installing you may have network issues so you will have to open the dialer and do the IMEI thing I'll post back in a minute with what I'm talking about.

Well if you have a custom rom and recovery yes OTA won't work for you. So you will have to download you carrier's rom from Sammobile and install through ODIN and it will give you stock recovery and 4.3 and no root!

I was thinking of simply Odin to 4.3 from cleanrom instead of stock 4.1.2 and then 4.3 my only issue right is I need root for a couple of critical root apps I use. Will have to wait for someone to create a Stock 4.3 root version. Hopefully, it won't be too long of a wait

I'm trying to find the same thing since my I925 is softbricked and in a bootloop. All I can do is put it in download mode. Do you by any chance know how to put it back to stock?
Yes, you need the stock firmware. But FYI: that's the note 10.1 2012... I was sold that thinking it was new one. I took it back. Just flash the stock firmware via odin. Let me see if I have it... But you can prolly find it in the forum...

As for the recovery...you can find a kernel that is compatible with the ROM you are currently running. Get the tar version of the kernel. Now use mobile Odin to flash the kernel...as for the rest. I suggest reading up..before you try flashing any ROM. If you need a little guide on mobile Odin though. I made one I can link you too.

I've got a nice little step-by-step guide here.
Easily root and flash CM11 Kitkat without a PC.
I know it says Sprint only, however it should work with all carriers.
