I love the keyboard I have on my Gnex. I have a custom ROM (Carbon 1.8) on it and the keyboard does sype-like entry and has the alternate characters on hold. I cannot find the options for that on my FLO, so I went ahead and found one that has the alt characters but does not do swype yet (dev said coming soon). I have had issues with Swype not tracking my Shrek fingers (as my wife calls them), but the AOSP does fine. Any idea where I can get it? I tried installing the lat keyboard, but got an error. TIA.
The official google keyboard?

I'm looking to untheme the Warm Z swype keyboard back to default Swype theme. Is this possible? Or would it be possible to use Swype on a Gingerbread keyboard?
just uninstall the swype that came with the rom, and sign up for swype beta on their website. it's much better than the ota one anyways. you can't swype on the gb keyboard (swype is an entire keyboard itself with a framework and everything, not a utility put on top of an already working keyboard) but there is probably a theme out there somewhere. any other questions, dont be afraid to ask.
Thanks, everything worked great after getting root explorer and read/write permissions to uninstall the built-in Swype.
One more thing, is it possible to disable the voice command button the keyboard for Swype? I always press it on accident and I can't imagine anyone actually uses it anyway.
Sorry for the non-contribution but I have to..
Why would you even want to un-theme it? That kb is gorgeous!
Also.. I use voice input often while driving. It works very well
But I do agree with dkd, the beta rocks, especially being able to re-dl the official version any time you need to
This phone is so awesome, but I'm about to lose my mind with the landscape keyboard. Does anyone know of something to help that ISNT skype or the paid ones on the market? Maybe a mod to make the stock keyboard bigger? Moto multitouch keyboard?
swiftkey and go keyboard are the best third party keyboards, in my experience.
they're larger than the stock ICS keyboard. though IMO the stock keyboard is the best one
You may buy the external connected key broad, is potable. Usually under 20 dollars. Good Luck.
For free, I would try Go Keyboard (has typing and swype abilities), also try the swype beta (google it, not on the market).
Paid, I love swift key.
Personally, I bounce between stock, swype, and swift key.
IMO, the best of them all is the stock keyboard. If you like swype you like swype. As far as regular keyboards go, you cannot beat the responsiveness of the stock ICS keyboard.
I believe the ics keyboard on the market allows you to adjust the key height. It also has gestures. There a few out there so pm me if you can't find it and I'll dig up the link.

As others have said the Go keyboard is probably the best free. I am a fan of the FlexT9 keyboard. It is kind of a mix of swype and swiftkey. Got it for free on the amazon app store. It has issues typing email address in the Gmail app for some reason.
Thanks all. I ended up buying swiftkey. Its great and all, but in the end I decided to just force myself to get used to the stock keyboard. I was spoiled by the eclipse rom keyboard on the bionic...

When I tried racing and ravers ics tw ports, I was having the same issue both times: the dictionary for the stock ics keyboard would only show my contacts names. swypes does work for some reason. Anyone else have this issue?

Same problem here. If I remember from the vibrant it has something to do with the keyboard apk.
Keyboard Dictionary
I'm getting the same problem. The contact name suggestion is a setting in the keyboard options, but as to why the dictionary is missing, it may be as the person in the post above said, there is a problem with the keyboard apk. You could install the ICS keyboard from the market (link below). This keyboard is a real ICS keyboard but with a working dictionary. I suggest you use that for the time being until the keyboard issue to resolved like the other issues.
ICS Keyboard Free
BTW: this it the free version, the paid for version has somethings that the free doesn't
ICS Keyboard Full
Hope this helps
i've searched for a coupe hours tonight, but cant seem to find anything very helpful.
at&t note 2, loaded jellybeer 3.57. love it, except that the stock ROM's "samsung keyboard" is proving difficult to find. it was very easy for me to use, and the extra top row of numbers has become a necessity for me.
is there a way for me to get it back, without rolling back to the original ROM? or another keyboard that has both "swype" style input as well as a 5th row for static number input?
thanks for any help
Kii keyboard in the play store has what you're looking for. There are other aftermarket ones that are very similar also. I think ai keyboard does also.
I can give you some links to just the stock Samsung keyboard if you're still looking for it.
Thanks... AI keyboard does the trick
Downloaded Kii and I love it.

How did this get past product testing? My finger has perfect accuracy, and I can't even type simple words because Swype is giving me words that are NOTHING LIKE the words I am typing.
Many simple words are affected by this, but here's one example: Try to type "Were", you get "Are" and a bunch of other suggested words - NONE of which start with "W". My finger is CLEARLY starting on the w, so why does Swype ignore that?
I have my old Galaxy S here in my hand. It's been recently reverted to stock so I can test side-by-side. I swear this old Swype is far smoother t use. It even has an option for accuracy-versus-speed. This new Swype doesn't seem to have any options to adjust this. This is AWFUL.
In order to get a new keyboard, do I need to root and install some other Rom? How do I improve this?
try swiftkey. see if it works better for you. might help you determine whether you want to even try and fool with swype. you could also try locating the swype apk and installing it to test
Are you using the Swype style keyboard that came built in our did you download Swype beta with the beta installer from the Swype website? I'm using Swype beta 1.4 and for me it's pretty darn accurate and fast.
