I've had my Galaxy S3 from T-Mobile now for about a week. The phone seems to run perfectly fine. However when I attempt to run Quadrant for example my friends are averaging anywhere from 4900 - 5300 for their stock T-Mobile S3. My same phone, stock, everything closed/killed from task manager, only manages to score 3100 - 3600.
When I check system information in Quadrant sometimes it says my current clock speed is 912Mhz, 1134Mhz etc.. Rarely do I see it at the full 1512Mhz..
Power saving mode is definitely turned off. Even after doing a factory reset and running quadrant on a fresh install it still scores the same. Beginning to get frustrated this phone isn't living up to the hype.
Ideas anyone? Thanks.
I did a battery pull, killed all my apps, cleared my memory, waited a few seconds, ran Quadrant again and still can only manage to score 3100.
No offence but who cares about benchmarks...... the phones soooo smooth and awsome

Don't have mine yet but I have seen someone have the same problem on here and what was wrong with theirs was they didn't know they could set the CPU Max mhz in the settings. Perhaps yours is not set to Max? Not sure where exactly in the settings it is but I'm sure it isn't hard to find

I've been through the settings menu in the phone numerous times. Have not seen an option like that nor do I think it exists? For the most part the phone runs smooth I do notice it lags/hangs up sometimes but I'm guessing that's because the processor isn't going to full potential.
Anyone else have any ideas or where I can find this mysterious setting?
I've noticed on my sprint phone that as the phone gets warm the upper limit that the CPU can scale to seems to be reduced. The day I got it the first quad run was about 5k, but after 30min of nonstop usage the next run was down to 3.5 or so. Check it yourself with setcpu, it will start capping at 1100-1200.

I will check it out but considering even after a battery pull and letting the phone sit power off for an hour I still get crappy scores. Then theres others who can run Quadrant back to back to back to back to back and achieve 4500 - 5100 constantly. I can't even get it on one try! I'll download SetCPU and see.
If you are that concerned, wipe and try it all over again.
EDIT - Damn my spotty reading, you already tried that. Sorry. Not much else to do, unless you try to restore the OS through Kies. A fresh install from a fresh source?
Or sell it on craigslist
The phone works fine. Everything is very smooth and responds fast. It's pretty much just the benchmark scores that are throwing me off. I'll see what happens with the second S3 I will receive tomorrow. I can't imagine the heat playing a factor because this S4 is supposed to be one of the coolest running processors out there. There's a huge video on it somewhere where they did a butter melting test. Anyways time will tell I suppose.
Why do you care so much about benchmarks? Also the phone won't ramp the processor up to 1500 if it has no reason to..

What's the point of having the newest hottest phone right away? To be able to say it can do what others cant. One of those things being blowing away other phones in the benchmark arena. I just don't see why others are able to hit 5000+ scores and my device can't seem to even come close. It just makes me think there's something wrong with my handset. Do you blame me for being skeptical after the price we pay for these things?

Considering you say it works just fine and are basing these problems that you have off of Quadrant..
Also I guess I will try and help since you are from Chicago they're should definitely be a setting somewhere that allows you to change the CPU settings. I'm not positive where but I did read in a review this was the first phone out of the box able to adjust governors. I would look but I'm on CM9

There is a setting for this, it's actually incorporated in the power savings mode. If you read through it, there is an area that says the max cpu speed is actually lowered when it's enabled. But, if you're not using the power saver mode, then it's irrelevant to your situation. It could have to do with the bloat though, and also the international is almost double the scores as ours yet there is minimal difference in speed presented in side by side real usage testing. I wouldn't get too hung up on the benchmarks, it kind of ruins the enjoyment you get from just using the phone, and seeing how smooth and flawless most everything is. Also, once debated and tweaked, those scores will most definitely improve and will probably ease your mind a bit.
Hi all,
I have a Galaxy S4 I9500, I keep my brightness at full all the time. When I finish playing games even "subway surfer" for 10 minutes, and exit to the desktop, I find that brightness is lowered alittle bit & increase gradually to the previous state which is full brightness (from 5 to 10 seconds). Could this be a result of that when playing games, the device uses the 1.6 quad core CPU and upon exit it takes alittle time (those 5 to 10 seconds) to shift to the 1.2 quad core CPU?
Really need your help.
Thanks alot.

It takes milliseconds to switch CPUs not minutes. You most likely have auto brightness turned on.

S4 Brightness Vs. Overheating...
Thank you all for your reply, I keep my brightness at full all the time. and auto-brightness is disabled. i came to find out that the brightness dimming and returning to full again, is only when the phone is overheating. i read an article about a phenomena like this but for the Xperia Z, it says that this is normal as it's a way that warns you that the phone is overheating and to preserve the screen and the battery. Do you think that this is also true and normal for the S4 I9500? Thanks.
BTW, I'm really sorry for posting about I9500 here, but i'm really new to forums and i just didn't know what to do.

Very nice phone with great specs and a super screen. We own 5 of these units (large family) and they all run very smooth. I would recomend it to anyone. This community on the other hand, well not so great. A lot of snooty peeps on here whining about noob this and misplaced that. If you check my signature you can see im no stranger to these forums and I can tell you I have never encountered so many mods and people closing threads and being rude. So if you can live with the community support until the phone becomes more popular and the forum gets straitened out then id say go for it. Just remember that there wont be much custom stuff for months to come. Thecubed sounds like he is coming here though so hope is alive.

I tend to read other forums and the people are down right rude to each other. and Lord please don't say that your s4 or HTC one have a build problem or some kind of possible defect those people will come down on you with the wrath of God. sometimes I do feel like people's comment go way to far but overall it's cool here maybe because there isn't much going on yet but let's hope this group of people can keep supporting each other.

One other thing you may want to consider is if your watching benchmark reviews dont pay attention to them atm. The antutu scores are about right but mostly everything else is way off. This phone benches very close to s4 with a larger screen. I think perhaps they were benching with power saver or something to get that low.

There are several pro vs s4 vs one vids that have posted quadrants of a little over 8k. Way low on and totally inaccurate. Ive benched all 5 of ours and they hit 12k each time. The gpu is a bit lower end than s4 speeds but as we know pro has a much larger screen thus slightly decreased scores.

The OGPro is extreamly responsive. Any native app opens very fast. As for 3rd party apps- I personally have no complaints but at times it might depend on the app...even thogh the possessor is one of the best out there and no app should cause a slow down.
On the other hand, I come from a SGSII and this phone is a killer...I love it so much!!!
I've never even thought that I will buy an LG but Sammy got me so tired of the look and feel of the UI and without tweeks I was not happy... This one though-I'll keep even without bootloader unlocked

yea, it's just sucks a little that Google/TI no longer support it.
and also apparently didn't do much of anything in the ways of optimizing code as per omapzoom and other things. I just feel like this thing still has a pretty nice amount of untapped potential in it and wish I knew how to do anything at all in order to pull it out. because while SURE it can perform nicely, there ARE times where you can tell it's strained. and it Just seems like with proper coding it shouldn't at all. Imho the cpu is plenty good enough to handle more than it does, but due to other factors that also put a damper on battery life, it has been held back just a bit from it's full power in order to squeeze that extra necessary juice out.
(which brings me to a side question here, not trying to thread hijack sorries. but, a lot of times you see kernels and roms that have descriptions for "battery tweaks". and in my experience, saving battery tweaks usually go in hand with a slight, even if minute, drop of performance. what I'm trying to find out is what specifically was changed for those "battery saving tweaks". I would personally like to play around with those values. one thing I came across was I believe kernel tweak for "random read/write wake threshold" in sysctl which a lot put to 128/256 respectively as a battery saving tweak. I'm still researching/testing into just exactly WHAT that is for, but I have lowered those values from anywhere of 64/128 to 8/16. but I'd like to couple that with any OTHER changes to see what can be squeezed so to speak lol...anyone let me know if you know of any that you used in the past so that I might look into them and see if were implemented in my setup and reverse them if possible....pm me IF OP would rather this not clog up the thread lol sorry)
but yeah I agree mostly as well, especially with the great devs who worked on & the newer guys who have been jumping on to keep things moving forward, it's just GREAT community for a solid device.
it's my first nexus and I'm extremely happy I got it within 4months of launch so that I could be around and grow WITH it, learning a ton and experiencing it's evolution. it's been fun and STILL is after so long. it is cool to see that even when development started to slow a bit, others jumped to the plate and started digging in, reviving all the excitement. cheers to all in this community!
I see it the other way:
That newer phones may have gotten better specs but Android OS has not changed enough to justify updating to the latest/greatest phones.
For the past 20 months I'm still enjoying using 4.1.2 ROM seeing as the GN was the official 4.1 Jellybean show piece.
I've personally found KitKat to be a dumbed down version of Android, especially since Google removed tablet mode.

Unless you play games you really don't need a new super powerful phone with a 2.5ghz quad core processor and 3gb of ram.
The Galaxy Nexus does an alight job for every day use, i do feel it could be quicker sometimes and wish i had better battery life, but as phone ive used daily for two and a half years i really cant complain too much.

Why would I need to make it up?
It may just be my ROM that's some how blocking certain games even though the example you gave is compatible with Android 2.3+.
The desktop play store version has always been weird.
Eg.
Electronic arts developer has 37 apps listed on desktop play store where on my GN via play store app there's only 17.

Maybe its a regional thing? for example the Trials game i linked to was only out in Finland for a few weeks, then it got released to more countries after that.

It's a beautiful phone indeed, if you don't use the 2100 mAh battery and the "assy" cover which makes it a little ugly.
Agree.. I have not added any extended batteries for the same reason .. I like it's slim and curvy profile... Just got an oem one as the original had worn out

My guess is people tend to remember better battery life with JB because their battery was new back then Totally agree with OP, I've been using my GNex for 2 years now and thanks to continued support from developers I'm still excited and try new stuff to this day. I plan to change it in 2015, but as much as my next phone will be so much better in every department, I do have a feeling that I'll miss my good old GNex somehow
This is the most versatile phone I've ever used.

Hi Guys,
I am really new to this forum and I deeply apologise if this thread or subject matter has been opened numerous times.
However, I am just somewhat really puzzled as to how amazing the spec this phone is. I just loving it apart from two things. The battery could be better but hey with all that juice and cpu it needs to run that beast of a screen its understandable. However, the ultimate thing that bugs me is how it gets incredibly laggy at times when hoping from an app back into the home screen.. Especially in games or Facebook.. Has anyone experienced this issue?
I have rooted my LG g3 too and I have also turned the developer options on in which I have decreased the transition times from the default settings to off or 0.5 for few of the minimise options..
I just hoping anyone can help or have ideas?
Thanks so much
By no means am I trying to be rude, but if you search around a bit, you will see that this is apparently an issue just about everyone has.

There are 2 theories. 1 is that the software isn't optimized and is causing lag. 2. It takes more resources to draw the QHD display, therefore the phones CPU and GPU is having to work harder than an HD display and this is causing lag.

I couldnt agree more in regards to the QHD screen. I just hope that can flash Stock Android on to the device or just install something that is different.
Apparently I heard there was rumours that the screen could be decreased to 1080p?
Instead of crying, just got to the hidden menu and enable 60fps in the dynamic lcd refresh menu.

I did the same as you.. I also did a shutdown/restart and then found that everything runs fast. Been 24hrs like this now
I'm pretty happy I guess now. Just wish the AT&T and Canadian versions didnt have the PMA Qi charging

People here get mad if you don't use the search efficiently. It's actually one of the forum rules.
If people do get mad, realise that they've probably seen this question 2343636 times and you maybe could have found it. Just move on.

Sorry, I did not notice that but just like the next post said, I have seen this complain about 100000000000000000000000000000000000000000000x when the fix is about 1 minute away..
Sent from LG Gangster 3
Hey its all good, no worries.. I have managed to find answers to my issues but even after going through the lg hidden menus as another thread states.. its still really laggy..
Just wish i can flash custom stock android rom on my g3 but there none as of yet...

I couldnt agree more in regards to the QHD screen. I just hope that can flash Stock Android on to the device or just install something that is different.
Apparently I heard there was rumours that the screen could be decreased to 1080p?

That's the stupidest thing I've heard. I own a Nexus 10, a two year old tablet with the same resolution as our G3. It has a dual core processor, running 1,7Ghz. And guess what, it is smooth as hell. Even smoother than my G3, like a lot. And I don't like it... But once the bootloader gets unlocked we could probably see the G3 running flawlessly with Android L.

I am sorry to disappoint but some people are not as fortunate to have the intelligence that other have and as life has evolved, so will my knowledge as time goes by in having my phone...
I have been a LG G3 user for month and 2 weeks so far. First android phone. From an avid iPhone 4 user since it came out...
I'd greatly appreciate if people could respect me and help me rather than slate me for my 'noob' questions...
Other than that thanks to everyone who has shared light with me and who can continue to provide amazing advice.
After boundless and endless search, i have after hours of tedious trail and error managed to flash the leaked firmware 10j that i see floating about on the forum on my D855 and noticed a slight decrease in lag.. I have also changed the runtime from Dalvik to ART.. Which made a slight increase in speeds...
Aside from that can anyone please give extra tips and personal tweaks they done to boost there performance?
Thank you ever so much!:good:

First I'd like to apologize for all the rude people around here. Sorry buddy.
Second there are many things you can do to make your phone faster and lag free.
I copied this from the post here to make it easier for you.
Open the dial pad, then type the following number, choose one code that matches with your device model:
- 3845#*855# (Intl)
- 3845#*851# (TMo)
- 3845#*850# (AT&T)
- 5689#*980# (Sprint)A hidden menu will be showing up, scroll down till you find “High Temperature Property”.Tap it, then*turn it ON.
Now find thermal daemon mitigation and turn it on either. switch off your phone, and wait for about 15 seconds.Next,*turn it on*again, when you see screen lock, wait at least 35 seconds.Enjoy your lag-free LG G3.
Third, I advice you to change the launcher. I suggest nova since it's full of customization and really light.
Here : https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.teslacoilsw.launcher
Install it play around with for a while. It's easy to customize it the way you like.
Enjoy your phone buddy...

Thanks ever so much for your amazing support and suggestions.
I have managed to do the sugggested list that you mentioned. I just realised a new issue with my phone that I really am surprised about now. I charge my phone at 100% and within 2 hours I have lost a good 30% of my battery within a space of 2 hours.. By having the phone on just locked.. All recent apps closed. Its a strange issue. I dont know why all of a sudden.. I can see in the battery menu that andriod os and android system are taken up about 47% and the display taking 35%...
Im sorry to branch from one issue to another but I dont really know what to do. And I am really worried in doing factory reset and losing my data. I am having to charge my phone in space of 2 times in a day.. doesnt make sense.
Thanks so much

Can you post a screen shot of your battery stats so we can see what's using the most battery? It could be a rogue process killing the battery.
There is probably some app eating your battery. Try to post a screenshot of you battery stats. To do so press power button and volume down at the same time and hold them for a second.
Any way, Apart from the battery issue, how's the smoothness?
As you can see in mine I'm off the battery for 3 hours. Haven't used the phone e so far since I'm home playing battlefield 4. Still at 100 %.
At first the battery drains a lot faster when in a new rom, the it settles.
But in your case it is draining way to fast.
Restart your phone, give it a full charge and let it rest for an hour. Let us know how it goes.
Thanks guys for your response, I am really shocked as to why my battery is just eating up soooo fast like that... You can see from the graph in the screenshot that it just plummets down sooo fast within hours..My screen brightness is set at 50% without no auto brightness and I don't really have much apps running.. Im really bemused as to whats going on?
I removed the battery for a while and I also restarted my phone.. This is a MASSIVE improvement because the Android OS and Android System was both taken up a good 40% and screen 30%.. but even with the stats shown I'm still reducing significant amount of battery..

It seems to me that your battery is settling down. Guy it a 3 or 4 full cicles and let me know it has stabilized.
