Com.android.phone stop loop in Europe - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy Note II

I want to make sure I provide as much info as possible and I appreciate any help which is offered. I'm currently in Latvia with my T-mobile Note 2. I received the sim unlock code prior to leaving the U.S. and applied it upon purchasing a Latvian sim and entering the sim card pin. The phone grants me access but immediately begins locking up and issuing an error window stating "unfortunately, Com.android.phone has stopped."
When I enter the mobile settings (which is difficult to do in between crashes) the latvian network is recognized shortly but I cannot change any settings and the network indicator in the pulldown always says searching. I've tried to change the network mode before hand from Automatic LTE/3G/2G to 3G/2G or whatever, but that doesn't help.
If I place the device into Airplane mode, it stops crashing and I can use wifi (which I'm doing now)
Here are my device details:

Short of trying a factory reset, have you tried clearing data from the telephony related APKs?
Perhaps the SIM is a dud?

[Q] no signal, can't select network, but there is mobile internet.

Hi.
Galaxy Nexus, 4.2.1, bot unlocked from amazon about 6 months ago.
On dec 2nd signal just went off. So no calls nor receiving can be done. While mobile internet is still ok.
Network is giffgaff, running through O2 - UK.
Taking this sim to other phone - works fine.
Support from giffgaff said that everything is perfect on their end.
Putting any sim in this phone, shows same issues - no signal, but there is mobile internet.
Checked status of IMEI, and it says in online services that phone is unblocked.
I have tried on/off airplane mode, restarting, taking battery off for a while, with sim in and out, as well did factory reset - still issue is here.
It is unrooted, just original rom.
Going to settings > mobile networks > network operators > I select any network and it says: "Can't connect to this network at the moment. Try again later.". Same when choose automatically.
It allows to do emergency calls, and in status bar shows: "emergency calls only | giffgaff".
In About Phone section, network is "O2 - UK" as suppose to be, Signal strength "-101 dBm 7 asu", mobile network type "HSPDA:8", service status "Out of service", Roaming "Not roaming".
Please ask any questions if any additional information is needed.
King regards.
I am looking forward to anyone to try assist with this issue, and kin to help.
Contact your operator for change your sim, it happens to me this summer, my Sim card was working well with other phones but with my Gnex everything was disabled. Then I've received my new Sim card and everything is working well

Then other SIMs would work well. But inserting any SIM in this phone - doesn't work for calling. Only mobile internet.

Based on this info, I suspect your radio simply died. You could of course try to reflash the radio firmware yourself, but I would not get my hopes up.

Thanks for info. I thought about that as well.
So would it be the option if I have bought the device from amazon, to use their RMA services - they should replace device.
Is that right?
Thanks for helping out.

[Q] VPN and APN issue with [ROM/4.1.2] [Dec 19 2012] CM10 | Jelly Bean 4.1.2 - v3.0

This is an outstanding ROM. Only two issues:
1. I can establish a VPN connection, but after disconnecting several minutes must go by before I can reconnect. I'm researching this issue with my VPN vendor, but I'm beginning to think the problem may be in the ROM.
2. Establishing a VPN connection tends to wipe out the APN and therefore all wireless connectivity. The ONLY way to get the APN back is to force the phone to re-read the SIM card. For some reason, trying to change the SIM pin won't work because it tells me my perfectly good SIM pin is incorrect. Strangely, what does work is changing the screen lock method, which then causes the phone to prompt me for the SIM pin. After I enter the SIM pin I get wireless back.
Anyone else having these problems?
Same APN prob when changing SIMs
By the way, when changing SIMs I have encountered the same vanishing APN problem. Specifically, going from a U.S. SIM to a French SIM. On booting, no wireless, no APNs listed, and a search for providers results in an error.
The solution is to force the phone to read the APN list by requiring a SIM unlock -- even though I had to unlock the SIM upon booting. I did this by changing the screen lock method, which then for some reason required me to enter the SIM pin. Trying to change the SIM pin didn't work, because the system wouldn't let me. This suggests to me some bug in the way this ROM boots.
And VPN drops
Hard to say whether this is the ROM or the VPN provider, but I can't get a VPN connection to stay open more than a couple of minutes. Interestingly, I had set VPN to Always On, and when the connection dropped that setting was reset to None.

[Q] LG Nitro HD sees only one network

Hi everyone!
Just received LG Nitro HD which was bought on ebay.com (USA). As I live in Europe I can't use AT&T so I had to buy the unlock code and I did so. When I received the codes (NCK, NSCK, SPCK, CPCK, SIMCK) the Life's SIM was already in and I was doing some setup (can't remember exactly what, but not in wireless networks). So I decided do not reboot the phone and use 2945#*930#.
When I entered the code I get in the unlock menu. I pressed Network lock and the new menu popupd. I've entered the NCK and phone says that the Unlock was successful. Than I tried to press other menu items such as SIM unlock, Corporate unlock,... but without any effect.
After that I decided to continue my "exercises" and went to main screen and I didn't saw the network connection.
Than I've tried manual search, automatic search, other SIMs (from other carriers) - the only network which the phone can connect is life but connection loses in a few seconds. BT and WiFi works perfect.
I've tried to flash 10i.kdz, 10c.kdz, 10f.kdz, 18f.exe, 20c.kdz - only 10s and 18f.exe can start, others stuck on bootscreen.
Please help me how to connect the phone to other networks and make signal straight!!!
have you entered your apn settings for your carrier?

No, but they are received automatically somehow (maybe they are flashed at SIM?) for all networks I've tried. And they are correct - I've checked it on operator's sites.
Insert any sim and do a manual search. How many networks you see?
Also verify wether it is on 3G only or anything other than automatic cause in some devices it sticks even after full flashing. If that fails, best case scenario, antenna problem.

With any SIM or without any SIM, with manual or automatic search, with "2G only" set or not set it could see only the network named "life"
So I decided (the day before yesterday) to disassemble it and see what is happened inside. And I saw that some wire was not plugged but only putted on the board. I plugged it and powered on the phone - and IT HAPPENED!!! All the networks where found!!! So I've assembled it back and the problem was resolved. Sorry, I was so happy and didn't wrote about it.
The problem is decided, case is closed. Thanks for everyone for help.
rofl, yeah plugging your antenae in is kind of important

major unlock fail

Phone is an S3 for T mobile running 4.1.1
I've been in phone unlocking hell for 4 days.
Closely followed the "free" unlocking in debug mode method-trouble was phone will auto lock back after a couple hours or calls.
Tried turning the flag on and off, factory reset, all kinds of stuff and still no luck.
I broke down and bought an unlock code but can't get my phone to prompt for it.
I can't seem to undo the service mode change or find a way to enter the unlock code.
The phoen will not prompt me for an unlock code no matter which way I try to reset it.
Have you tried to odin to latest jb stock ?

Are you inserting a non T-Mobile sim card into your phone? ( I am assuming that your cell phone is the t-999) That is the only way your phone will ask for the unlock code.

yes, inserting non t mobile sim- it doens't prompt for unlock code
If I root and flash a different rom does does it bypass all hte lock/unlock BS or am I still going to have to figure out how to get that code entered
Also tried reinstalling drivers from kias- just rooted phone-it wouldn't be much trouble to install a different rom if that is the fix.
also I bought an unlock code but don't see a place to enter it in
Not 100% sure but I was under the impression the simlock feature was null on sgs3. I have no issues with mine using straight talk wireless full unlimited ($45 per mth). Aside from that, if you can give me some info on what you have done I might be able to help more. There are a few settings that need to be changed as well as phone based service menu changes.

ok
Inserted foreign (non t mobile sim)
Got a prompt for an unlock code, which I didn't have.
Used Google, found a way that looked promising by going in the service menu.
*#197328640#
Main Menu
[1] UMTS
[1] Debug Screen
[8] Phone Control
[6] Network Lock
Options [3]Perso SHA256 OFF
(after choosing this option, wait about 30 seconds, then go back one step by pressing the Menu button then select Back, now you are in
[6] Network Lock then choose
[4] NW Lock NV Data INITIALLIZ ..... wait for a minute then reboot your phone
Ok did that then phone worked. Kinda. It works for about an hour or a couple of phone calls, then the phone says "searching" and I don't have any network connection.
Also tryied turning the SHA256 back on, back off, intializing, every combination you can imagine, same result, phone doesn't work.
Bought an unlock code but can't get the pop up to come on to ask for it so I guess it is worthless.
Tried reinstalling firmwire via Kias. Same thing.
Rooted phone thinking that might be the answer. Worked for a day then same thing.
Spent countless hours on google and these forums trying to figure out a way to fix it.

What APN's do you have?
never mind got booted off again...
phone says "searching"
internet was off
this thing is crazy
It will work just fine then all of the sudden nothing-move sim over to my flip phone and it works fine.
It's like the phone is shutting itself down.
Have you changed your service address? Sounds like your sgs3 isn't finding the correct path to your new network. ....
In your Phone: Go to settings<more settings<mobile networks- then touch the option network operators to scan the available networks in your area, wait for some moment, let your phone scan, a list of available networks in your area will appear then, select the network name of your service provider to register it and you are done. You can restart fore more efficient use then.
This is from another site, I have cm nightly so my options are a lil different now. That being said after manually selecting my network with stock rom, setting my APN/WAP had no issues. With the cm nightly I didn't have to change anything. I'm thinking one of the os updates might have made it hard to access or change this option. Will try to grab a dev friend to look into this for ya.

My service provider is Cellular One.
I have three options
Select automaticly
Default setup
Search now
Selected search now
It has two
T-Mobile
311040
I selected 311040 and nothing....still got the "searching".
then selected "T-Mobile" and my phone connected to "cellular one".
please please please let this thing be fixed!
Ok we are getting somewhere.
Last night after I "registered" to T-mobile the phone did fine.
Today I stopped in at Cell one on the way home and told them I thought it was fixed and what I did.
She said that isn't good because I will get booted off when my bill comes because 50% of my useage has to be on cell one network.
So she scanned there at their store and set it to cell one.
I get back home and I'm booted off again. I tried to put it back on T mobile and I get an error now that says my Sim does not allow to register on this network.
Is there anyway to get ALL of T-Mobiles stuff off of this phone?
Would flashing a ROM do that?

Not Registered to Network?

Today I lost my ability to make phone calls or do anything with my phone away from WIFI.
If I tried to make a phone call, I'd get a "Not Registered to Network" error message.
I can still do WIFI calling but nothing else away from WIFI connection.
I then went into network settings and chose "manual" for network operators. I was able to restore texting and calling. But I have no data. The options that I see from the scan after choosing "choose network operators manually" are 3-5 choices and they all read "Home". Some of these options give me error messages and others gives "Registered to network" - which then lets me call and text message.
So far I have tried rebooting. Taking out the sim tray and placing the sim card back in. I have tried resetting network settings. I have tried resetting APN to default.
Anyone know of a fix for this Samsung message occurring on the A70?
I am trying to do what I can to avoid resetting to factory defaults.
Thanks.
Others things I have tried:
Placing sim card in the other tray.
Making sure my sim card works in another phone. (It does.)
I fixed the issue.
Restoring APN to defaults or resetting APN, does NOT work, apparently.
I had to manually create and save an APN and enter the appropriate data, as instructed by my carrier's website.
The key data entry was probably adding a website (fake example: "t-mobile.com") to the "APN" entry, which was blank in the default APN that my Samsung was using. I wonder what happened there.

Last week an earthquake has occured at Istanbul (5.8) and all the gsm carriers stopped working for hours at whole country. That was interesting. And when you tried to call someone, phone were showing a dialog which was shown to you. And also as you said, peole had to use wifi to call someone via WhatsApp etc.
So, I think the problem you lived may be your gsm carrier's issue and probably they fixed it while you were trying to fix it yourself.

No. The notion of an outage of service occurred to me but ultimately the fact was my sim card worked just fine in my other phone.
The problem and fix had everything to do with the APN file. I'm just wondering why that APN would change all of sudden.
What I've read about Samsung phones is that this "Not registered to network" is a common problem.
I hope this thread will be useful to someone in the future.
