Anybody else have this problem? My phones cpu temp gets to 55 degrees whenever it's charging. Is there anything that can be done? I also notice that it charges pretty damn fast so could that be the problem?

The stock charger is 2 amps if I remember correctly. So it charges very fast, which makes your phone hot. This is especially the case if you want to play with your phone WHILE it's charging. I try to leave my phone alone if it's charging, but I also underclocked a little so it generally gets... not as hot? So to answer your question, what you can do is leave it alone while it charges. It gets hot and uncomfortable to touch but that's normal. Just don't touch it.

I've noticed that mine (and others report) their SGS3's run particularly hot. This is most likely due to the dual core processor, the processor seems to be located at the bottom right of the phone (by the back softkey) as this is where the phone is the hottest. Im in Arizona and during the summer temps outside are excessive constantly over 100F. Even when in my home all day I can rarely get my battery temp down to 85F. Li-Ion batteries have a much shorter lifespan when exposed to temps above 85 and when exposed to excessive temps are also prone to "thermal runaway" in which the cells become so hot that the battery continues to self heat until catastrophic failure in which there is so much pressure built up inside the battery that when the casing fails it essentially becomes a flamethrower. The dell laptop battery recalls were caused by this, a flame thrower in my lap doesnt sound fun but neither does one in my hand (unless im using a real one). The polymer plastic casing is a terrible heat sync (especially with a rubber case). It seems these batteries are going to need to be replaced once a year.
Looking at about a 35% loss in capacity within one year. I also experience terrible battery life, moderate use i get about 6 hours, screen eating up most of my battery and when in doors i keep the screen brightness all the way down.
Data found from multiple websites but do not have enough posts to site source:silly:
Wait.. You're complaining about your phone being 85f? Try over 100f lol mine gets to 42c.....very annoying

Yes, these batteries are doomed.
I have been looking into the charging PMIC and if you can tell it to stop charging at 80%, but it appears to be hard set at 4360mV where it goes into a trickle charge mode and runs the phone of the USB power.
The problem is two fold. For one thing we have a 2100mA battery, and the charger is 900mA, so a 0.5C charging is good for long term battery life, even better if you charge over USB at 500mA. But the discharge rate can be as high at 1000mA if you have all the bells and whistles on and things are hot to begin with. The typical usage with screen on is 200mA, maybe 400mA with WiFi, more with BT. But current increases greatly when both cores are over 1.5GHz.
So the problem mostly seems to be the charging is reducing capacity by people going below 10% charge (if you graph the voltage you can see the tail off below about 15%) and charging above 80%. LiIon capacity is reduced by keep over 95F and also permanently reduced by draining to low voltage levels and also charging much above 4.2V and then holding the voltage there. I noticed the capacity after two weeks was reduced by 20% already.
And no, the thermal runaway is no longer a problem and I wouldn't mention it anymore. The battery self-protects, as well as the system is being very careful monitoring the thermals. Also, the CPU is throttled above 56C ( I believe)
But, I know in the PMIC controls you can disconnect the battery and run only on AC when plugged in. This would be ideal to leave charge the battery to 80% then stop charging it, and you could leave it plugged in at work or overnight without worrying about the battery capacity.
You lost 20% capacity in 2 weeks??? Wow!
I've had mine for going on 2 months and my battery seems as strong as ever! Still able to easily get over 24 hours off a full charge and still be above 10%.
I am not trying to be argumentative here but isnt the idea that going below 15% and charging above 80% purely myth? I've seen quite a number of people posting the same info in the past but when asked for a reliable source for their information they are never able to produce one. Im pretty sure I've read articles/studies that debunked it as well. (Ill try to find them but honestly may be thinking of something else I read. Ill let you know either way if I find it)
I do know its a good idea to have the built-in function that stops it charging around 95-97%, but isn't that just to prevent overcharging?
Also I should point out that my phone does often get quite warm, even hot sometimes, but it hasn't affected my battery life in any noticeable way.
As for your 20% drop in capacity, have you flashed any roms? The latest jb leaks have big battery drain issues. Also when you flash any rom it can take a few full cycles for the system to relearn how to accurately report battery use and can often trick people into thinking the battery capacity has gone down.
Like I said, not trying to argue with you. It seems you tend do do your research on this type of stuff so im hoping you can point me to where people are getting their information.

My Note 2 feels pretty warm while charging, even when I turned it off, it was still warm.
Anyone has similar issue?
It's perfectly normal to get warm while charging.
Filling up 3100 mAh takes power man.
The hot part is near the camera not the battery and even when i turned it off, is it ok?
Odd. Mine doesn't get hot while charging. And I live in a tropical country at that.

Looking for other owners of Wiqiqi or any induction charger. I'm not liking how dang hot my phone is getting after being on the charger... Any suggestions on what to measure to make sure that it's working properly? I don't think the current is dropping to 0 once charged? I hate hot phones!
I am using the new stealth and provided charger.

I will bite. I just got my charger from the postman yesterday. Unboxed it, set it up and dropped my phone on the pad to charge last night. Initially I was concerned seeing only 450 milliamps charging the device. Figured I would let it go that it knows more about charging than I do. When I finally rolled over to ignore it and sleep it was at 85 percent. Get up this morning, it was at 34 percent and extremely hot. Seemingly the 500 milliamps that the charger is capable of outputting is not enough to charge the phone while in standby, but is enough current to bring the temperature to near 49 degrees Celsius.
I am contacting the seller today about a fix or refund.
Well it seems to have been a fluke. It has only happened once or twice. Most mornings my phone is warm, but acceptably so. The temperature appears to NOT be related to current because I have been monitoring that and the temperature can continue to raise as the current goes to zero. I'll try to post my battery charging data with temperature next time I have free time with my s3.

I wouldn't use it. Just sayin'.
My WiQiQi with Galaxy S4 also gets very hot sometimes. It also seems to try to recharge, stop, recharge, stop.... even when battery is 100% charged. I guess these two things are related.
This phone is amazing, and I love it, but holy God it turns into an oven super quick when charging or using some intensive tasks like video calling or charging.
Don't know about the 10 (yet) but the area around the camera gets burning hot when I'm gaming on my OnePlus One.
What kind of temperatures are you getting? The hottest mine has every gotten while charging is 43 degrees celsius. I use the stock HTC quick charger and I don't use my phone while its charging.
My HTC 10 does not get any hotter than any other phone I have ever owned. And this is the FASTEST charging phone I have ever owned. Full charge in one hour in most situations.

If you are doing anything intensive when charging, all phones will get warm/hot. The HTC 10 will be particularly noticeable since the majority of the body is made of metal. The only way the that the heat from the CPU/GPU to escape is via the metallic body.
How to fix samsung galaxy pocket neo GT-S5310I (Bootloop)?
Mine is running at a normal temperature while charging...
I've recently got the HTC 10 and it does get warm when it's charging but not to the point of it being uncomfortable. And it cools down really fast too...

You aren't using the correct charger. There are other reports on XDA about this same issue.

Gets no hotter than my n6 m7 m8 and s7 get while charging
No problems with QC3 chargers, a regular 2A charger and charging via computer USB ports for me.
I've even gamed or used Navigation while charging with the QC3 chargers without heat issues (i.e., it gets warm but still not as much as my Nexus 6P or LG G2).
It might get a little warm if I'm using it (say Youtube) while charging, but when it is on it's own or just browsing the web or facebooking it does not get hot.
Is the heating problem very big issue
Hi. I am using the bundled moto turbo charger with my phone and have noticed that the phone sides and back get hot mid-charge when charging and cools down when the battery is about 80% full. Is this a problem with my phone/charger or does it happen with you guys also.
Its cause of the Turbo charger
That's absolutely normal. Don't worry.
Yup happens to mine too. Heats up quite a bit and then cools down after a while
Clean your charging jack once with hot gun with paste.

No need to be worried then as its common for everyone. Thanks.
It's completely normal, phones from ~2-3 years ago (before quick charging) didnt have this problem because they didnt have to dissipate the heat generated by forcing 15 (moto Z) to 25 (moto X) watts into the phone. Phones pre-quick charging only took in ~5-10 watts which is much easier for a phone to handle, although its also much slower. If you dont need to quick charge I would recommend using a normal power brick which will charge it slower, but also generate less heat. Some people think the heat can cause the battery to lose capacity quicker, while manufacturers say it doesnt. Honestly I dont know which is true so I cant say. I personally so far have charged over night on usb (~2.5 watts) and its done charging my phone and my moto mod by morning from <30% to 100%.

No need to worry, that's completely normal. The phone turbo charges until it hits the 80% mark, then the turbo stops and until 100% it charges normally, like any other phone, so it doesn't get hot. During the turbo charge it's normal that the phone heats, as it uses more power to charge faster, and from 80 to 100%, it begins to cool down, because it uses less power to complete the charge.
Normal
compared with x style
z play is nothing:laugh:
A potential work around
I realized that if you remove the back cover (style mod) while charging and keep the phone a little raised from the surface the extreme heat is not experienced.
You could try and confirm.
