So I just now opened my new 2013 Nexus 7 and it will not power on at all. I have let it charge for over 2 hours now and it does not power on at all, or show any charging icon like the previous Nexus did when it was drained.
I noticed a similar issue with the new Nexus 7 display unit we had to put out at Staples earlier this week. After it initially turned on, it went to sleep and didn't come back on until the next day whether it was plugged into the charger or not.
Is there anything else I can try? We're out of stock and so is every other store in our area, so exchanging it will be a pain.
you have to hold the power button down for a solid 3 seconds or so...
try other outlets?
if doesn't work, it is what it is...return it
Not sure if you got it running but try this if you haven't.
Plug the tablet in to the wall charger, hold power and volume down for 20+ seconds. Keep trying that maybe 2-3 times. It should boot in to bootloader by doing that. From there reboot the device.

Same problem. Bought 2 (2013) Nexus 7's. One won't turn on at all. All that happens is the LED blinks (white). Tablet is plugged in. Held the power button down for like 30 seconds. That was no help. The other one booted up fine,
Obviously I have to return it, but it's a pain for me to do so.

I don't even get that. It's literally dead-on-arrival. No lights, or flicker at all, just dead.
Thanks of the suggestions michaelg1030, but it's still a no go. I've had it charging most of the day now and tried unplugging it for a bit too, but this is still just a brick.
Last time it took 3 tries to get a Nexus 7 without dead pixels/screen lift issues. Good to know ASUS really is making me get what I pay for.
I was in best buy this morning and bought me a new nexus 7. Their display unit that they put out this morning would not power on either. It was also plugged in, but all that would happen when you press and hold the power button was the that led would blink white. When I went to pay for mine, I powered it on and checked for dead pixels before I left the store. I hope you guys get this worked out with out too much hassle.

The display unit at Best Buy that had the blinking white led and would not power on, was the 16gb model.

same here but with 32gb
got a 32 gb 2nd Gen Nexus 7 from Staples, got home, plugged it in, didn't power on. Tried to reboot it, no go, had to go back to staples. They were all out of the 32gb (I got the last one), so I exchanged for a 16 gb and a refund of the price difference. I asked the Manager there to let me see if it works before I get out of the store. She said something like (not an exact quote) "pay for it, check it out in the store after you pay, if not we'll swap it again". I mentioned that other people were having problems buying bricks. My advice is power it up in the store or in the parking lot after you buy it to avoid having to drive back. Online orders, well you'll have to wait for replacement if you get a brick.
I checked out the 16 gb model that I exchanged it for, and it is great, currently streaming to my cromecast. It happens, electronics don't work right away of after a couple of days. If it works, you're probably good to go. This is a great thread, I found others with similar issues with this device.
It's day one with the 16 gb Nexus 7 for me, I also have a Motorola Xoom, the Nexus 7 is a nice unit, good luck with yours
Thankfully mine turned on, but I did have to hold the power button for about ten seconds when I first took it out of the box.

same thing happened to me right when I bought it. You just have to hold the button all the way and hold it until the tablet decides to turn on
Yes new nexus only power by holding power button until Google logo appears otherwise it won't turn on. I like it that way because old n7 had several accidental power on without me noticing it and when the time came to use it found it half battery down or completely drained.

What is up with all the DoA Nexus 7's?! I bought mine from Walmart and haven't had one problem with it.
2 from 2 different GameStop locations with no problems.
Mine arrived today. Got it home, plugged it in, but when I pressed and held the power button, the LED was just flashing white.
I've left it for a few minutes, now the screen comes on with the battery charging icon at completely empty. I guess I'll leave it to charge for a few hours more.
Mine form the play store also came with only like 1% battery so it wouldn't turn on until 15 mins of charging. Blinking white LED to indicate out of battery.
Everyone should try charge it a bit before declaring it's dead.

all this complaining of units not coming on. show some videos or something. What freaken date is on the boxes on all these bad boys. My blood is boiling. People complain and tell us things but never give us info of what they have. Are these AUG shipments or July shipments. Is there 2 pieces of tape on bottom of box or 1 piece. People start giving info. I'm tired of it. Now we have new problems with units.
I think these are Apple eaters making crap now. Show videos. I know Google is not that bad to start shipping out dead Nexus 7. I have had 5 in a row they where all the same with touch issues.

Mine was a 32GB with single tape July build. I never said it was dead. I suggested people who haven't charged their device, try charge it first. Mine just needed some charging.
Google might be shipping play store units un-charged because they know they won't sit on the shelf.
It's a little irresponsible to return a unit even before charging (for people who just bring it out of the box and try to power it on)

I have a dead GNex and I’ve tried every single method to try to resuscitate it but have no luck.
If you have a Samsung JIG, and live around the SF Bay area, can we meet up and try to bring my GNex back to life?
I'm quite sad. And if you can help out a fellow GN user, it'd be awesome.
I Went to check my email, hit the power button, nothing. It did not turn on. I figured it was a sleep of death since I hadn't tweaked with SetCPU yet. Okay, pull battery, hit power button. Nothing. No Google screen. Nothing at all. Pull battery. Hold power and volume up and down to get to Fastboot. Nothing. No Google logo. Screen did not flicker on or off. No vibration. Literally nothing.
Plug into wall charger. Do not see battery charging logo. Battery pull. Plug into computer but a computer won’t recognize a dead phone. Try to see if I can run any commands. Device unrecognized/offline.
Battery pull. With battery out, hold power button for 30 seconds (I did this after seeing someone else suggest it on another forum). Put battery back in, plug into wall. Leave it for 30 minutes. Nothing. Now I'm sitting here with a dead phone.
OK I had a similar problem. My phone was completely dead and the only way it turned on was if I plugged it to my computer. When I plugged it to my computer it gave me a green charging battery icon.
I ended up sending it to Samsung and they said I messed up the motherboard and I had to change it. I paid $272, lol **** that ****.

So i've been having this problem the last few weeks where i set my kindle on its charger and it won't charge. This can ususally be fixed with a soft reset by holding the power button. But when i hooked it onto the charger a couple days ago (it's been setting on there that long i forgot to take it to school with me) and i went to check it yesterday and it was totally dead. The only thing keeping it on was the fact that it was plugged in. Stupid me i unplugged it not thinking about it and now it won't boot. It's been sitting on the charger off and dead for about 17 hours and i just tried to boot it and it won't boot. The light was on but i tried to reset it to see if that would fix the charging problem but now the light isn't even on unless i try to turn it on. Then the orange light is only on for a couple minutes. This only started happening recently and it sucks because i love this little device and can't afford a new one. Anyone have any ideas?
Previously did you have to wiggle the charger to get a good connection?
I have problems charging mine too, and just started experiencing it with my SG3 as well. Fortunately AT&T is sending me a new phone, but that doesn't fix my kindle problem. Mine will only charge if it is off, like I cycle it down, plug it in and the red light comes on and it charges really slow. It will rarely charge when powered on. Honestly it's probably the same problem as my phone, the charging port is bad.
While having your fire plugged in, try holding in the button for several seconds, and see if it'll boot. Also try a different charger, to make sure it's not a charger issue. Any standard Android charger fits the Fire
Using my dads portable battery pack I got it to boot up. I figured out that it will only charge with 1 cable I have. I contacted amazon and the rep said I'd need a replacement so I'm just going to buy a demo model of the HD 7 inch.

How much is the demo version? I'm thinking of getting a Nexus 7 instead, my boyfriend just bought one and is supposed to bring it over tomorrow for me to play on it LOL. He got the 32GB, it's $100 more than what I paid for my fire but it's pure Google/Android and worth in IMHO
There aren't many but they usually go for less than or right around 100 bucks

Hello all... I've just received the FIre Phone I ordered off Ebay (qualitycellz seller). The phone is supposedly brand-new in original box, but upon taking it out of the box and trying to turn it on it did not respond at all. I connected the charger, tried again, nothing...... had to leave it connected for around 5 minutes and tried again and this time the screen woke up to show me the ultra low battery indicator with a 0% charge level. I had to wait for it to charge for around 5 minutes to re-attempt turning it on. Fortunately it did turn on after that time.
My concern is that from what I know all cellphone manufacturers ship phones with at least 60% charge in order to keep the battery in good condition while on storage, so receiving the phone completely dead raises a concern on me that there might be damage to the battery. Could this be related to the long time Amazon had these units in storage since the phone launched?... I would expect that these phone might have been around a year in storage before Amazon decided to pull the plug.
This is the seller that Amazon unloaded all their remaining Fire Phone inventory to, so phones are new in box. I'm also concerned that the seal on the box was broken, even though the phone and packaging inside did not show signs of being used in any way. The phones are AT&T version but they include an unlocking code, so they should not need to open the box in any way since they generate the Unlock code based on the IMEI visible on the box label. One option is that they open the boxes to confirm that the phones are not DOA and then they forgot to turn it off after testing.
Should I be concerned about this?... I've not activated the phone yet and I've contacted the seller first to at least request their explanation and thoughts on this, and check if we should proceed with a return on this case. Your comments are appreciated.
Mine was exactly the same. Think about it, they've probably been sitting for a year. I've had no problems and charge seems to be just fine. (ATT Unlocked)

Thanks Wise... that helps. It makes sense to think about that due to the long time the poor phones were collecting dust on Amazon's shelves.
Did your box had the little plastic seal broken also?
I purchased from the same person I think and I just got my phone it as the same way. The battery life is still great

I think I had to cut mine, but it honestly looked untouched inside. I have had it for 3 weeks so far, no problems battery seems pretty good. After sideloading google services a few times, I have not had to reload it and am currently only experimenting different program launchers besides the default one. Haven't been able to settle on one yet. Good luck!
I got an AT&T one from qualitycellz about a week and half ago and my battery was also completely drained. Everything was sealed up nice and I haven't had an issue since.
Yeah my Fire Phone was fully discharged as well, freaked me out a little when I couldn't turn it on, even when I plugged it in. But after giving it a few minutes to charge it powered up just fine.
Thanks all for replying... I guess we can conclude that all these phones were sitting on Amazon's shelves for a long time, so everyone that purchased their Fire Phone on the "Fire Sale" on Ebay can assume that the phone will come fully discharged and you'll need to plug it in for a few minutes before attempting to turn it on.
IMPORTANT NOTE FOR NEW BUYERS: The most confusing factor on this is that when you plug the phone to the charger for the first time the phone does not gives you any indication that it is charging, not even when pressing any button. That's what can be frustrating because you actually have to wait around 5 and press one of the buttons and then it will give you the charging screen. Keep that in mind before you throw your Fire out of the window.
Mine was same. I'm using Nova 3.x launcher, you can find this 'old' version online...the newer versions aren't as pretty..IMHO

I think I bought the phone through the same eBay auction that you all are discussing. However, when I plug in the phone and try and charge it... nothing happens. I've tried several cables, several chargers, and all for at least an hour - none seem to work.
If I long-press on the power button for about 8 seconds, I can get it to vibrate once, but then nothing happens.
If I plug it into a computer, press the power button for 8 seconds, it will start to vibrate about every second. I've never seen any other phone do this. It's only if it is plugged into a computer (mac).
Any thoughts?

Use the charger that came with the phone and let it sit charging in the off state for 15 minutes or so. Mine took a while before I could power it on the first time.

Try holding both volume button and power button. Have you ever dropped the phone in anyway?
Never dropped. I've tried all sorts of button combos. Ordered a Oneplus 3 and getting it today in the mail. Will test with that usb c cable to see if that makes a difference in charging.
I ran into the same exact issue. Mine just randomly turned off on me, and could not be turned back on. A couple others on the Google forums reported the same issue as well. Ended up having to contact Customer Service for an RMA. My replacement should be arriving on Friday.
Appears that there was just a bad batch of phones.
This same thing just happened to my pixel 2 xl just now. Slept with good amount of battery left, woke up to see my phone dead. Ridiculous
This just happened to the Pixel XL that I purchased at release for my mom. I was 2 weeks past the 1 year warranty, but Google sent us a refurbed phone thank goodness. Her phone is in immaculate condition and never dropped. I'm hoping this refurb doesn't have this issue down the road. I paid $800 bucks for a phone that should last at least 4 years if not more. I love Google, but I definitely can't afford to buy a new phone every year.
The same thing just happened to me today while at work. I was around 85 percent battery, never been dropped, only used official charger. My XL 128GB model was running 8.1 stock with an unlocked boot loader. Never had a single problem before this. I bought it from newegg (sold by mango wireless) during a flash sale on September 24th 2017. Talked with google and they are sending me a replacement since it was considered to have been purchased through the google marketplace. Hope this one works for much longer than 3 months!

Try holding power and volume down to see if you can access the bootloader...... Plug in your phone to a wall charger and then choose power off using the volume keys. Let it charge up if you can... Good luck... That doesnt soung good if its at 80% and blacks out. Was it drinking with the New Year Celebration?
Jk happy new year.
Greetings, I have a bit of an issue with my tablet and it's most likely a hardware one.
About two days ago I had my tablet completely discharged and I put it on the charger. I saw the battery and lightning screen and left it for about a day.
Then yesterday I wanted to watch a movie on it and so I reached for it and all it had was a black screen. I thought that it must have charged up completely, so I pulled it out of the charger and started it up.
It then went as far as the Samsung logo and 20-30 seconds afterwards it shut down. I thought that maybe my ROM became faulty or smth and tried to boot into TWRP. Same thing.
Booting into the Bootloader worked but at one point the screen started rapidly changing its brightness. And it again turned off after a couple of seconds.
I tried this several times, connecting it to the wall charger or my laptop but every time it turned on for only a couple of seconds and now it has completely died off. No matter with which cable, charger or power source I try to charge it, it doesn't light up at all. Power button and combinations with volume buttons don't do anything.
A bit of info about the device: It's about 2 years old running the latest LineageOS. Roughly 1 year ago it suffered a drop and the screen got cracked. I ended up buying a spare screen from China and gave it to a hardware specialist to install it. (Samsung doesn't really have representatives near me, so that was the easiest option) Ever since then the speakers have always been a lot quieter and worse-quality but everything else worked fine.
I believe that somehow the charging circuit fried itself and now the battery has died off. Is that even possible? I haven't charged it with any unknown wall chargers or anything that could fry it. Can someone please help me fix this problem since I have no idea where to start?
Thanks in advance...
