OTG - Nexus 7 (2013) Q&A

How do I make it work? I connected a wireless keyboard to my N7, but I dunno how to make it work. :c

Must be rooted first. Then it will work.

1. For an OTG, you just need the cable [micro hmdi male to usb female] and a usb device, like an external hard drive, mouse, etc.
2. If its was a wireless keyboard, you just need to have bluetooth on an pair correctly, i'd try to re-pair the devices.

OTG cable question

This seemed like an accessories question, so i decided to put it here. Has anyone with an OTG cable tried to use a 360 controller with an emulator? That would be awesome. If someone could try, or if someone HAS tried and know if it works or not could let me know that would be awesome.
I doubt VERY highly that it will work, but I have all the stuff to try it so I will report back in around 10 minutes haha.

Well in theory it should work because anything thats HID Usb should be supported by otg. Here hopin! haha
For some reason I can't even get my mouse/keyboard to work right now (it has worked before) and unfortunately I'm down to about 5% battery. I'll do further investigation tomorrow.
While you're right that theoretically any USB device can work, you still need the right drivers. The problem is that Android uses a monolithic kernel instead of the standard Linux microkernel. That means you can't simple load the right module when you need it. If you want to use the wireless receiver you'll have to compile your own kernel with the xboxdrv module built in.

Nope no wireless reciver. Just the plain old xbox 360 controller, with the usb. Why would I go a round about way of using the wireless receiver instead of just the controller?

I haven't tried it on my kindle fire, but I have tried it on my xoom. Works fine. I will give it a shot in a few hours when work slows down, but I dont' see why it wouldn't work, so long as the emulator supports gamepads, and the rom/kernel does the usb host stuff.
update: Nope. controller never lights up, looks like it isn't even there. this was using the motorola OTG cable, aokp rom with the 3.0 kernel.

Mouse on Arc

I bought this usb adapter with have on one side micro USB and on other standard USB and I tried to connect PC mouse with my phone but the phone didnt reconize that i connect mouse with it.
Can you tell me what to do?
Let me get this right maybe I read wrong are you trying to connect phone to your pc to either transfer files flash roms etc or are you trying to connect a computers mouse to your phone? If its the second one as far as I know you can't connect a mouse to a phone with a usb, phones don't have the software or drivers to do this and to be honest why would you want to.You can on the other hand use your phone over wifi as a mouse to control your pc or even Xbox with the right software many apps in the market for this.
i want to connect pc mouse with my phone and it IS possible. if u dont belive check youtube or google it. Its possible to connect keyboard and controller too.

It is possible. It is called USB On-The-Go.
OP: Does mouse appear on the screen? What firmware and kernel are you using?
im using stock. i dont see and mouse cursor cuz it dont detect that mouse is connected. For USB OTG u need rooted phone and i didnt root it yet. And i noticed that you can burn phones motherboard if u using this for i dont know how long.

Incorrect, incorrect.
USB OTG does not require rooted phone. USB OTG is a fully implemented script for SE devices, as it has official support from Sony aswell (*cough* LiveDock *cough*).
Also, mouse only requires minimum amount of power, so there is very small chance of burning your SoC (system-on-chip). If you want to use external HDD, then it would be whole other story, but mouse shouldn't be a problem at all.

No. I have two devices, arc s and Neo. Every mouse I tested work, including apple, dell, HP etc. It DOES NOT matter if it is rooted or bootloader unlocked. Sounds like a faulty USB otg cable to me. Or use a different mouse.
If all is working well, you should end up with a mouse+keyboard combo like mine. Thumbdrives require root.

than i think my usb otg is broken...

[Q] otg cable

hello, is there an otg with 2 female outs?
is it possible to connect both mouse and keyboard on xperia?
Mouse and keyboard at the same time? Hmm, probably possible with a USB Hub, about the first question, no idea.
this for example: http://www.ebay.com/itm/Dual-Micro-...AU_MobilePhoneAccessories&hash=item3ce0f670f0
just im not sure will it work both at same time..

So, I tried the Valarm cable and it didn't work. XDA have their silly URL restriction, so go to shop dot valarm dot net and search.
It worked on a Nexus 9, so it's not just a bad cable.
I'm going to try their Samsung version and see if it works on the Xperia M.

OTG hardware in the fire stick?

Does anyone know if the Amazon fire TV stick has the OTG compatible hardware. I bought a Y OTG cable and it doesn't work . I was going to do a hardware root and see if I could get it working. But if doesn't even have the compatible hardware i'm not going to bother.
No one has been able to get anything working. I don't know whether it has the hardware or not, but I'm kind of doubting it, or it's not enabled at all in the OS.
I have looked at the PCB and it looks like only power is hooked up to the port the rest look grounded so there won't be any USB stuff for it

That is very sneaky of them. I don't understand why they are intentionally crippling their hardware...

thats why i said it looks like. i was going off the pics on gtv. i just looked again and the traces u can see are ground and a data line, pin 2 and pin 5. the fact they where able to get adb to work makes me think the rest are hooked up but u cant see them

any updates on using otg cables with the stick?
if the hardware is ready (data has to be wired, i think?), the host mode would be only software dependent?

It's possible, but it's also pointless.
Connecting to your Fire TV stick is possible without using the cable, just by using adb.
ie: adb connect 192.168.0.103 (ip address of your Fire Stick)

Then you didn't get the point. We are talking about using USB-OTG in this thread.
What should be pointless in thinking about that?!
I think everybody would like to connect a USB key to the AFTVS to watch some movies from that USB key :good:
Hi, i was able to get otg working.....now I'm using a USB wired keyboard and mouse connected to a USB hub.......and was able to use a ps3 controller connected by USB working with a app called liquidsky.....but I need help, does anyone know how to get a wired Xbox 360 controller working with fire stick.........it plugs in and gets power but the middle guide button just keeps blinking and its not recognized by liquidsky........any help would be appreciated.........
Confirmed.... OTG cable with flirc usb. I now can control my Amazon Firestick with my logitech harmony remote. Finally one remote!
OTG Issues
Firestick is detecting my 1 TB HD but ES Explorer showing only Lost.directory. Kodi also unable to detect video files.
HD is formatted in FAT 32 partition

Does this phone support OTG memory?

Yes but first u need to enable OTG connection option in settings>additional settings>OTG connection
I don't know why, but I couldn't get it to work on my Realme X for some reason (even after turning on OTG connection option on settings). It works fine on my friend's Galaxy A7.
