U can update right to stock jb 4.1.2 with kies via pc, if u want to root it and go that route go download Odin 1.85 and this recovery http://techerrata.com/browse/twrp2/hercules, put device in download mode (shut it off, hold vol+vol- while connecting to PC via USB) open Odin and select PDA and nothing else, find the tar file 2.6 0.0 for Hercules, open it and hit start in Odin, it will flash the recovery and reboot the phone, now DL su.zip and flash in recovery bam ur rooted

Here is a video to start you off with, of course you don't have the jig so you'll have to put it in Download Mode manually.

Here the second post by bubby tells you how to flash via Odin. You'll have to Download Odin, Samsung drivers, etc.

Now this is the lastest release with
Wi-Fi calling. This is the one to flash via Odin to get latest update.
Let me know if you still can't do it, but do your research before trying it because you can brick your phone otherwise.
It's easier than you think.

You are right in unzipping it. PDA that .tar.md5 file and "start".
1 rooted 1 not rooted
Just upgraded 2 of them, both worked out great!
Question: After I flashed this, Titanium Backup is telling me it's no longer able to connect to root, or something to that effect. After applying this update, do I have to then re-flash recovery using Odin?
you have to reroot again you lose root after upgrade . flash CWM and flash superuser u good to go

[Q] Root for Samsung GS3 on stock 4.1.1?

Hi,
I recently bought the Samsung Galaxy S3 on T-Mobile, to replace my Motorola Droid X on Verizon. Love the new phone, but miss my root capabilities - aka there's a bunch of bloat. There's an OTA not being forced for 4.1.1, but when I tried to root that, I soft bricked and got stuck in a boot loop at the pulsing Samsung. I grabbed ODIN and was able to push the stock 4.0.4 back into it and get it working again, baseband T999UVLH2, Kernel 3.0.8-925100, build IMM76D.T999UVALH2. Is there a way to root this phone, or a stock rooted ROM I could push up with ODIN?
I'm not looking to load custom ROM's, just have some of the abilities I had on my DX when it was rooted and get rid of some of the stock crap that I don't need.
I originally tried to do this with Samsung Galaxy S3 Toolkit v6.0, and soft bricked the phone. I followed the directions online, and did it as instructed, but yeah. Any help would be greatly appreciated.
All you need to root is the touch 6.0 clockwork mod recovery tar file which is available on xda as zip file and the odin version 3+ and follow instructions thats all thats needed to root, make sure you also put the superuser app inside the root of your sd card meaning connect your galaxy s3 to computer then open the root sd card and put it inside there, i believe there is a clockwordmod touch that already comes with superuser so you may not have to worry about putting superuser in root. here i'll grab links for you now. u dont checkmark anything on odin except select pda and browse for the tar file. Here is guide for your device with download links.
The clockworkmod touch recovery version is by far best and always works well with almost all roms.
I would also recomend you use liquidsmooth rom or if you want to test out the new android 4.2 cm but camera doesn't work on 4.2 cm10.1 now however it's a very nice custom rom
Btw, make sure you flash the superuser.zip file that you placed in your sd card while you are in clockwork mod recovery otherwise you wont comlete the root. to get into cwm you gotta hold volume up home button and power button at same time.

Thanks to both of you, I'm rooted, exactly the way I wanted to be. I couldn't get CWM to flash in stock recovery, nor could I get Root66 to flash in recovery, so I just pushed it with Odin. All I need to do now is get CWM Touch on it, and I'll be set. I'm reinstalling my root apps as we speak.
Thanks again!
Odin cf auto root is the quickest and simplest.

Flash cwm via Odin uncheck auto reboot. Then go straight to recovery then reboot. I'd wipe cache and dalvik while in there though.

[RECOVERY]TWRP 2.3.1.0 touch recovery [2012-10-15]

[Q] I think I might have softbricked my phone.

I've rooted my S3 before when it was android 4.0.3 but when the OTA for 4.1.1 came out, I updated and my root was gone. So now, I wanted to root my phone again, so through odin I tried to root with CF-Root. However instead of Odin saying root successful, it said FAILED. So now my phone is stuck in this screen saying Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. Please select recovery mode in Kies & try again.
What do I do?
My phone is a telus 4.1.1 S3.

I got that once on a failed Odin. Pull the battery, reboot into download and try again. Make sure you're flagging the right file.

I had a similar issue a while back. The 1st thing I did was make sure that my phone could be detected via USB thru Odin. I deleted all drivers on my computer and reinstalled current up to date Sammy drivers for the device to my computer. I then downloaded a current version of Odin, along with a stock .tar file Of the previous version that it ran(I.e I.C.S) and downgraded back. Afterwards I was able to boot my phone up. Receive a software update available notification, and re-update the phone.. I then found a alternative root method.( I believe I used skips kit) and re-rooted with no problems. This happened to me before with a S3 and a epic 4g, this was my issue both times. I'm at work I wish I had more time to post links, I'm positive you can find what you need on XDA. I did I hope this helps
***mskips*** not skips.

[Q] ODIN Fail on Unroot and Restore Stock Attempt

I am trying to unroot and restore stock ROM so that I can sell my Note 2014 10.1.
I am using ODIN 3.09 and P600UEUCNK1_P600XARCNK1_HOME.tar.md5
ODIN keeps giving me a FAIL. Looks like "Cant Open Serial Port". I have attached a screen shot from ODIN.
Any ideas as to what I can do here?
Thanks
You need to extract the zip file, and edit .md5 off the end, leaving a .tar file to flash. Make sure you unroot via superuser, then factory reset, then download mode.....Will take 7-9 minutes. Wait for reboot, and removed to show in ODIN. Just did this myself, and device shows official, and recovery is stock, without even the Knox splash showing recovery bit! Easy breezy. I flashed on top of 4.4.4 bootloader the 4.4.2 .tar, and let it update OTA. T-Mobile P607-T Gluck!
Worked like a charm my friend...Thanks so much
Sent from my SM-N900P using Tapatalk
I followed these steps. Flashed same tar file, and successful install. Although i cant update software because says my version has been modified. Anyway to still get updates and be totally stock?
Flash updates from Kies instead OTA is never going to work again.

Please could anyone had the steps ... the same issue is faced with Note 10.1 Gt-8000
I' m using N8000XXUDNF2_N8000OJVDNF3_N8000XXUDNF1_HOME.tar with ODIN 3.07 which is detecting the com 3 or com 6 with it, and failing always and the device is stopped at either ODIN MODE if I used the volume down plus power or at Firmware upgrade encountered an issue. please select recovery mode in kies and try again... it would never enter to the recovery mode or Bootloader, please advise... thanks in advanced.

I Am using odin v3.0.7 and it works fine. Flashed latest firmware ANB6.
Open odin
Click PDA, then select your file to be flashed.
Wait for confirmation
Reboot your device to download mode (power button + volume down)
Press volume up to continue
Connect your device to PC ( you should see that your device was "added" in odin)
Then click start.
(Sorry for bad english)
Will this remove custom recovery as well? Im trying to keep that

Yes, also it will unroot your device if it is rooted.
OK well got tab back to stock and rooted again.
I loved having a custom rom but battery life was horrible , now with stock I'm back to 3 or 4 days of battery life . Which is awesome.
