Okay so I just bought this phone from craigslist. It was rooted when I got it. I factory reset the data but then restarted the phone and got stuck in a boot loop. So, I decided to unroot it and put it back to it's original state. I downloaded the original stock kernal - acs-eb30-stock-kernal-pulled.tar - and I loaded it on via Odin. I then followed the command prompt steps to fully unroot the phone and it was successful. I'm not stuck in a boot loop anymore however I can't access the main home page, the settings, get a wifi connection, anything really. It just keeps asking me to put in my google account settings but I can't connect to wifi. I can't get to the home screen page. It's almost like maybe that was the wrong kernal? I was looking for the stock kernal and people were saying it's EG30 not EB30. Any suggestions?
That's probably for another Samsung phone. There was never a EB30 for this phone. It shipped with EG30.
I suggest you use the EK02 ODIN One-Click in my signature. Use the full version that resets your user data.

Steps please (to remove ROOT and flash with Stock ROM)
Hi,
I have a similar issue. I rooted my phone (Sprint Samsung Galaxy 2 (also called Epic Touch) after I got it in early 2011.
Now I want to remove the root to sell it so it seems I need to "flash a stock ROM". I am not exactly sure how to do that. Can anyone give me steps?
Where do I get ODIN?
Where do I get the stock ROM for this phone?
How do I flash with that Stock ROM using Odin?
Thanks so much in advance. :good:

So I've been happy for a couple of years with previous ROM. Installed Airdroid and it totally killed it. Just bootlooping now.
I'm going on a trip tomorrow and need the hotspot. Can anyone point me to a ROM that is stable and has the hotspot rolled into it. Data, and roaming required, working bluetooth would be good too. .
I've been reading for hours as usual (it's 3:30am and I'm running out of time), but am not sure the current state of the development of the ROMs for a phone this old.

WickedX and Wicked S5, both have it. If you want AOSP, most if not all have it as well
Thank for the reply,
The one click update update to ND8 is hanging (odin not responding).
The original Blue Kuban Files I installed are 404 and the backups I had stored on my PC were lost when the PC died.
I don't need the latest greatest version of anything, I just need a working phone. Even the hotspot is optional at this point. I run my own business and the voicemails are backing up hence the ASAP request for help.
Any help anyone can give me to make this quick and easy would be appreciated. Thread lengths for these are now in the 1000s of pages so reading all isn't practical. Particularly when each page leads to another, and another, and another, which after a couple of hours of reading, then has dead file links.

I don't like using the one clicks, use regular Odin from here:
https://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=23501681358547889
Make sure you download all the necessary files before you start this
Download NJ2 stock to update bootloader and modem from this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=58297282
Once it is flashed, Odin Philz Recovery from here:
https://goo.im/devs/philz_touch/CWM_Advanced_Edition/d2lte/philz_touch_6.48.4-d2lte.tar.md5
put it in the PDA or PA slot unchecked auto reboot, after flash pull battery and manually go into recovery.
Then from within Philz Recovery flash Wicked S5 from this thread:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=57728620
It says you need to be on ND8/NDC, but that is what you need as a minimum, NJ2 is newer than both of them.
NONE of these are my work, I just searched around for you to get you what you need, let me know if you need more help or have questions.
I did kind of dig myself out of the hole today and got Gummy installed. Had to update CWM and install following this page http://galaxys3root.com/galaxy-s3-roms/gummy-rom-for-galaxy-s3-4-4-4asop/ Tried open garden hotspot but Gummy kept crashing so was very glad to see your post.

Followed your awesome instructions. This message coming to you via the hotspot on the Wicked ROM.
Thank you mattzeller, you Sir are a gentleman!
Glad I could help get you back up and running. Remember DO NOT try to flash any lower bootloaders via any flavor of Odin, if you will brick your device. You can flash any ROM you like, be it a JB, KK, or LP as they do not contain bootloader.
So i just spent the last 4+ hours trying to figure out what the latest firmware for the Samsung Galaxy S3 SPH-L710 since google was not my friend tonight.
So i had L710VPUDNJ2 installed on my phone... rooted, TWRP, unlocked bootloader.
I kept getting prompts about an update for the phone, and finally decided i couldn't ignore it anymore, so my journey began to get rid of it.
1st Headache; What is the latest firmware for the phone?
Well according to Sprint's Website for the SPH-L710 the latest version available is L710SPTBMK5.
OK, cool, this should be easy.
Go find a flashable ROM; [ROM][MK5][STOCK][ODEXED/DEODEXED] and flash it to my phone.... Stuck on boot... ****...
2nd Headache; Latest Flashable ROM is CRAP!
Boot back into TWRP and decide to say **** it and do a full wipe.
Wipe System/Data/Dalvik/Cache
Flash MK5 Rom
Reboot phone
Success!
Phone boots up and i can start tweaking it back to my standards... but wait... what's this? No cell signal at all...
Ok this is strange, but it's Samsung after all, so i expect it to be **** and have issues.
I go into Settings and look at the Mobile Networks settings... No Network mode selected.
I choose LTE/CDMA, the phone says it needs to reboot, i tell it OK
Thinking this was the problem and i am smarter than i apparently am, i started to smile and give myself a good pat on the back when the phone booted back up and still no signal.. WTF!?!?
At this point i'm convinced that XDA forums has the dumbest people in the world posting Roms on it and i decide to take on a new approach.
3rd Headache; Finding and downloading everything
So i know that L710VPUDNJ2 is a legit version for the SPH-L710 to work with Sprint.
So i find the ODIN download for it; [STOCK][ODIN][TAR] L710VPUDNJ2 PC Odin Flashable ( Sprint )
I download the latest version of Odin; Odin3 v3.10.7 (this version might change over time just fyi)
I downloaded the latest version of USB drivers for the phone; USB (Driver) ver.1.5.45.0 (this version may also change over time)
And then proceeded with the following
Install Latest drivers
Reboot PC
Put phone into "Download Mode" (Vol Down + Home + Power)
Ran Odin3
Clicked on AP and selected the NJ2 tar file (after extracting it from the .zip file of course)
Connected the phone to my PC
Clicked START after Odin3 recognized the phone
Well, low and behold after 20 mins or so, i have a working phone again! :good:
I go into the phone's settings and force it to check for an update, and wouldn't you know it, it found one!
I download and install the update, wait for it to come back up, and then immediately go to check what version it's on.... L710VPUDOH1
Well that's nice and all, the sprint website did say that was a version after L710VPUDNJ2, but it's not the LATEST version according to Sprint.
So, i go back and force the phone to check for updates.... Nothing!
So there you have it. Don't believe everything you read on the internet.
TL;DR: Sprint website lies. Use the links above to get on the latest version.
Well, you can't update with a rom zip. To update, you always have to use a .tar in odin. The .tar files contain the modem and bootloader files, which are required for an updated phone to boot.
You are lucky you didn't try an mk5 tar, you would have a hard brick. That is pre Knox firmware (4.3 jellybean). I heard there was a new mk5 too, I don't know for sure. But the first mk5 was the boost and virgin Mobile version of mk3. But someone posted they got an mk5 update that said stagefright patches, so.... Not sure. But oh1 and oj1 are the newest, I believe, for sprint, and boost/vm. Respectively
That thread you linked for the mk5 flash able zip clearly said jellybean 4.3 and that date was a couple years ago. Clear indication that it was not new.
There is supposedly a new MK5 that is supposed to fix Stagefright completely as opposed to a half fix from OH1.
L710SPTBMK5
Previous was L710VPUDOH1.
However, I suppose at this point, most of the userbase has already upgraded to a new phone or installed a custom ROM, so anything on this forum that's not 2015 and says MK5 is too old.
Hello. When my device was updated to KitKat, the WiFi stopped turning on. It doesn't fail to connect, it just will not turn on at all. I tried an app called "WiFi Fixer", which didn't work, but in the "Known Issues" section it said this was caused by the "Android framework not interacting with the WiFi driver" and said to flash a custom ROM.
I rooted, installed TWRP, and flashed CM 12.1 successfully. The WiFi still wouldn't turn on. I then decided it was probably a hardware issue that coincidentally showed itself at the same time as the update. So then, I installed Cheetah Mobile launcher, and one of their themes, and was resigned to not having WiFi.
I got bored with the CM theme, and installed the Dark Material theme. At this point the phone started acting buggy, not waking from wakelock, force closing, and randomly rebooting. So i then deleted cache and dalvick cache, and re-flashed from the CM 12.1 zip i had saved on my SD. The bugs would not stop, almost making my phone unusable. The only bright side of this was that my WiFi was turning on and working! I thought maybe the hardware problem had fixed itself somehow, but I still wanted to have a usable phone. I kept re-flashing from the existing CM 12.1 zip, the WiFi kept working, but the buggy behavior wouldn't go away.
I figured that maybe the CM 12.1 zip on my SD was corrupted, so I downloaded another copy from CyanogenMod, installed it on my SD, and erased the old copy. Then, I wiped everything and re-flashed with the new zip. The buggy behavior went away, but WiFi stopped working again! I'm thoroughly confused now.
If it's a hardware issue, why does it come and go with ROMs/ themes? I thought it may be a kernel issue, so I flashed Ktoonsez K747 kernel, which is working fine, but I still don't have WiFi. Did the themes I installed earlier change the kernel in some way to make my WiFi work temporarily? Is there a fix for this? Is it a known problem? I researched the forums but the only answers I found for similar problems were from earlier versions (2013) of Android/ CyanogenMod ROMs.
At this point, I'm willing to give anything a try, I've even opened the phone, inspected, un-plugged, and replugged the WiFi antenna. If it was a hardware issue, would I expect to see any damage, like a fried circuit or something? Is there any test to check if it's hardware vs. software? Can I buy a replacement antenna?
I'm pretty broke and can't afford a new phone, which is why I'm trying to resuscitate this one When it works, it's sufficient for my use.
Please help, I really want WiFi back! Thanks in advance for any advice.
Full odin back to stock. Best solution.
Get odin here at the bottom of the page. The firmware is there too. If you create a free account the download goes much faster.
Also, re flashing the same cm12.1 over and over won't help. Have you tried the newest nightly? After odin back to stock, if you want cm, use the latest.
If you don't have a pc, you can try flashfire, but I haven't tried it.

Thanks, I'm downloading it now. Does it matter that this is an older build? I started with L710VPUDOH1, but this download is a previous version, L710VPUDNJ2.
I found this, which has the L710VPUDOH1 build in a zip...
Google > "L710VPUDOH1 opensource samsung" > first result (I'm too new on XDA to post outside links!)
within the zip is Kernel.tar and Platform. tar. which I have done nothing with, as I'm not sure if it's what I need. Do you think I should flash these? or just go with the NJ2 build?
Thank you for your insight, and taking the time to help me!

No. For many reasons. First, its not the rom, its just the update. No one has made a flashable rom zip. Second, official updates won't flash in custom recovery and it would never flash because you're rooted.
So basically its not the full rom, its the official update zip, just a patch.
Gotta flash a .tar. Unless your on the triband model, nj2 should be fine

Flashed back to stock, and updated to OH1 successfully, but still no wifi. It's greyed out and won't turn on
I would think it was a hardware problem, except that it all started when my phone updated to 4.4.2. I've found many others with this problem online, but no fixes. Can I flash back to 4.3? or can I flash a new modem/radio(?) file. I thought I saw one in my searches but can't seem to find it now
Thanks again

No, do not try to flash 4.3. You will hard brick, and your phone will be a paperweight. Same thing if you try flashing any pre Knox modems/radios.
Are you flashing something else with this? It's something on your device if a tar flash in odin didn't fix it. Did you factory reset after odin?

Yes, I factory reset, cleared all caches, rebooted into safe mode, changed wifi settings in service mode... did an ancient Indian wifi fixing dance, spoke soothingly to it, then cursed at it  maybe it's a hardware problem with coincidental timing that's also happened the same exact way to other people

Lmao, funny. I heard it happening to people a while back. Can't remember what caused or fixed it. Some fixed it with custom kernel but the kernel is waaay outdated now. But it was kt747 by ktoonsez. But its so old. What carrier are you on? Sprint, virgin Mobile, boost?

I'm on Sprint.
this just happended to me the other night actually, did you find solution? Apparently just taking out the battery and resetting solved it for a lot of people, but not me. I will tell you what did work though! (keeps randomly doing it again but at least i can gfet it to work aghain even if only for a littlw bit)
First check with root explorer if you have this fike "data\misc\wifi\wpa_supplicant.conf "
I guess it has something to do withthis file, and your android not writing to the right spot, but i honestly have no idea so ill continue. what i did (i saw i didnt have the file either) i dialed *#0011# then hit menu, and then hit wifi, and turned off the bottom switch "wifi power save mode". I exited service menu tried wifi a couple times still same thing, so i went back into service menu and reenabled the switch, then i turned off the phone by pulliung out battery. I logged into my custom recovery and checked out the file explorer in twrp, and voila there that mysery file was! So i cleared dalvick and cache, rebooted into rom, (wicked x v8.2) and attempted wifi and it was working again. so take whatever conclusion youd like but im too tired to keep my eyes open at the moment and good luck, pissed me off cuz wifi was all i had no service, of course

I have that file on my phone. So I understand, you originally didn't have that file, but after doing the steps you listed it magically appears, and then wifi works? I really wish I could get it to work. Also, you said it keeps happening... so the file keeps dissappearing on you? Thanks for the response.
So I just rooted my n910p this morning, and have been trying to install the MOAR 2.1 rom. It requires the OK1 firmware, so I downloaded it from the link in this post, looked around to make sure I was flashing it the right way, and found a post identifying the different fields in odin. I decided to flash the tar in the CP field of odin because it was identified as "modem". I should have just asked first. when I try to boot into my rom now, it is stuck in a bootloop that isn't fixed after a twrp restore. So I'm kinda stuck not sure what to do at this point to boot properly again.
edit: alright, so after struggling off and on all night blindly flashing different baseband versions hoping one would work, I flashed the latest firmware I could find on sammobile in an effort to get back to stock. It finally worked. So I left everything alone after that except rooting. So now I am completely stock again, but rooted. I'll take it. I need my phone for work, so I'm quitting while I'm ahead. I guess this post should be deleted now, since it doesn't really have any beneficial information in it.
