Hello,
Im new to the community as I just got my first android phone a few days ago. I have just a few quick questions:
First is GSM the same as hspa? all the roms seem to say GSM, but I am on the new to canada HSPA network, with a sim card.
I have rooted my phone using this guide "http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=581981" and am wondering if this can be undone if I need it to be? or is there a rom that is the same as the original floating around? i'm only asking because since rooting with this method it seems that I've lost battery life, I'm going to try some other roms, but that takes me to my first question.
As well are there any Roms that are just HTC releases for Android 2.0, 2.0.1, or 2.1 that are not modified anywhere.
Last question, I originally had radio: 63.18.55.06DAU_6.35.08.20 whats the differences between the radios.
Thanks in advance,
AZ
Im also on Telus using a Telus branded Hero. Try using the IU radio if you are not on the stock radio anymore. As for rom, try MCR 3.1. Its fast!!
my two cents
JU is newer, and i believe it's required to run the eclair/flan builds, and seems just as stable as IU in the cupcake builds.
@AbsoluteZero:
GSM is the same as HSPA, yes.
And yes, you can undo the rooting procedure by installing an official update from your carrier. However, Telus doesn't have any updates available yet, as they've only had the phone for a couple months. There may be custom way to undo the rooting without your carrier's ROM, but if I were to unroot I think I would just wait for the official Telus update. Once you're on an updated radio, Modoco's ROM is great. There are threads in some of the other Hero forums about the Telus Hero, lots of questions are answered there if you have any problems with your rooted phone.
As far as battery life is concerned, I recommend putting the Modaco 3.0 ROM on your phone, it'll probably help. It's good for me on 2.9.

I also have an unlocked Telus branded Hero which I am using on Rogers. I am using radio 63.18.55.06JU_6.35.09.26 with no problems. EDGE/3G/and HSPA all work. Also WiFi and BlueTooth work great.
I'm not sure if the Hero has all the HSPA bands that Rogers has, but in urban areas I have no signal issues. I have been using this radio w/MoDaCo 3.0 for over a month now.
Is there a way I can tell if I am currently connected to a 850 tower or 1900 tower?
Here is my situation:
I'm currently stationed in Europe, Poland to be specific. I use my Inc2 in GSM mode with a local carrier. After rooting and flashing CM7 for the first time, I noticed my reception getting significantly worse than before (And if not, it's pretty **** in the first place.)
I an attempt to remedy this, I flashed the newest .1111 radio from the Inc2 Development forums, unfortunately that not only didn't help - but resulted in a ~10db drop in my reception.
I figure that the "newest, bestest" radios (released by Verizon, correct?) are only there to improve reception within the United States, and a fellow like myself - looking to get the best possible reception within Europe - should start looking for an alternative.
I'm hoping somebody here will have had some experience with maximizing reception in Europe.

Custom Roms have different behaviors when it comes to GSM according to each Rom
try flashing another Rom , i suggest :
Andybones stock ( Based on the Latest OTA ) , it is not de-bloated , Note that latest OTA originally included the Radio you installed 1111
rmk sense ( the first release from Verizon ) and it is de-bloated
Both of the above Roms are Original Rooted firmware
do a super wipe before installing the Rom
choose GSM Only mode ( not the global mode )
if signal don't improve try
adding your carrier APN through APN settings manually
or you can Backup the APN's included in CM using APN Backup and restore from the market and restore them for one of the above roms , then use APN manager to activate your APN
Please note that this will override Verizon Global embedded GSM APN , Don't try this before trying the Roms with Verizon Global embedded GSM first and see the results
Hi everyone,
im having a big problem with my signal. I get none and i keep flashing radios to try if it gonna work. First of all, i have a international HOX... With a cWM10 custom rom. I don't know if i can flash a radio from the american hox version. I seriously don't know what to do.
Thanks...
I apologize if this is a stupid question, but I couldn't figure out the answer clearly after doing a search. I currently have the S3 with Sprint and am using a custom ROM. I want to switch to T-mobile (b/c their service is better in my area) and I know that I will have to get a new S3 that works on their GSM network. My question is will the same ROMs that worked on my Sprint S3 work on my Tmobile S3, or are roms carrier specific? Thanks
For the most part, roms are carrier specific. There's a sticky thread in development that you can make any rom work for your phone, you will have to get your hands dirty tho. Not just a zip and flash type thing.
Hey all,
Is there a reason why a N7100 ROM can't be flashed on a N7105 device? I'm a noob so sorry if the question seems stupid, but I get that the difference is one being 3G and the other being lte, but wouldn't that part be addressed by the actual radio?
Couldn't you just flash a N7100 ROM and leave the radio alone?
thanks in advance
dean
So what is everyone else doing who has a lte version of this phone???
If there's a ROM you want, you can always try porting it yourself: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2111865
