[Q] Locked Bootloader Custom Rom - Xperia Play Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hello , i have rooted my Xperia play and i have a question , can I install Gin2JellyBean on it with a locked bootloader and a CWM installed from X-parts ? Can I backup my stock rom with it if I get a bootloop ? From my exGalaxy Mini i know that when you flash a Custom Rom you need to wipe data/factory reset and wipe cache, if I do it when i install Gin2JellyBean My cwm will get deleted because i have read that it installs to /system not on it's own recovery partiton

to make it short:
- yes you can install
- yes you can backup stock (in rooted sate with xparts installed) before install - and revert later (you also can recover completely with sony tool any time)
- regarding factory - if you reset - just reinstall xparts
- for gin2jelly install instructions head to related thread plz

and to make it easier, procedure is all the same for locked bootloaders to install custom roms (GB roms only). just be sure that the rom supports locked bootloaders.

Theese are the requirements:
⇒ baseband 70
⇒ New Baseband 72
⇒ 4.1.B.0.431 ICS 4.0.4 Root
⇒ CWM5.5.0.4 v7 Recovery
Be sure to have it or else install it prior to advancing to the next step.
"Settings/about phone" here you see baseband and and firmware of your phone.
You also gotta have root and cwm (the later you can get with an app called x-parts since you have a Xperia).
Now you have to do the following:
#wipe dat / factor reset
#wipe cache partition
#advanced / wipe dalvik cache
#Mounts and restore :
Format /Data
Format /system
Then you install the rom from within cwm when you've downloaded the rom to your sd-card (install zip)
Hope that info helped.
There are guides for each step here on xda if you just know what you want to do (for example: install cwm / root / upgrade firmware etc).
Good luck!

Have you formatted system, data, cache partitions? I had similar problem with flashing a stock based rom because of such a stupid mistake.

Formatting /system on locked bootloader is the stupidest thing to do (I guess). You basically delete the Recovery and get in trouble.
You guessed wrong because some stock based roms require system partition to be formatted and not doing this caused some serious problems for me also flashing back to stock with flashtool is like pushing one button and then waiting for 5 minutes for flashing to complete so I don't see a problem here.

I have done every time these steps.
Factory reset
Wipe cache
Wipe delvik cache
Format system
Install rom from cwm.
Again clear cache and reboot gives me stuck at sony logo
I take it your phone as it should if you install stock ftf try ultimate hd just out of curiosity

I think I see a cause of your problems now... your rom is .431 but two of these roms base on .587 firmware and third one requires a custom kernel so try again with .587 kernel and report if this helped.

So please can you tell me the correct sequence to put custom rom....?
1st install kernel and then rom or or install the rom and then kernel?
It would be the best if you could unlock your bootloader but if you can't or don't want to then:
Download and flash this https://www.dropbox.com/s/957gfo1kaf7pefe/LT18i_4.1.B.0.587_(1254-2716).ftf (its stock untouched .587 ftf for arc s that I've used many times)
Root then install CWM with x-parts
Reboot to CWM format data cache system and dalvik cache
Install your rom
Reboot
And remember that you can use only stock based roms so racing bean wont work.

Install stock rom with flashtool (wipe everything). Root it. Install CWM. You should then restore whatever backup you have...

Noyou cant restore your stock rom via cwm. You need a zip file of the stock rom that came with you phone.. Its not compulsory that you should always be on stock to flash another ROM. factory reset wipe and flash..
but i did backup my stock rom via CWM before flashing the custom rom.
all i just want it that when i move to stock rom. i dont want to lose my root access and cwm.
if i flash stock rom ftf root access and cwm will gone right?

As long as you backed up while you were rooted and had cwm i think that they will be there but if they aren't its not a big deal to re-do them.
If you flash the ftf they will be gone.
you can flash hellcat rom over cm11 without flashing stock rom

I have done it before. Follow these steps.
1. Goto CWM and wipe user data and cache. Also wipe dalvik cache.
2. goto "mounts and storage" and format system, data, cache.
3. Now install your hellcat rom from SD card. Also flash GAPPS and reboot.
Thats it.
