Hey guys i have been flashing roms since the original epic but I know want to start making roms and becoming a dev but I heard that porting is more easy and then from there start to make my own rom can some point me in the right direction to porting but I don't wanna use a aosp cause I like touchwiz better

Then really porting might not be what your looking for, customizing it and cooking your own rom in your kitchen. There's a user on XDA @dreamsforgotten he's written some great threads and guides on all of it, maybe he can link you to those posts or you can search for them using his username to guide you. Also you can check in the http://xda-university.comXDA university threads.

There is a nandroid dump floating around and there are already custom roms out for other phones.
What would I have to do to convert the nandroid dump or a rom for another phone to our phones?
Could I use a 4.0 kernel in a 4.1 rom?
Also, if I flash a bad rom, I can still get into recovery and restore a good one, right?
Im new to this, but I would really like to contribute to this and maybe get a project started.
If anyone with some more experience could help answer any of my questions that would be great.
Wrong section bud.

What section do you think I should post this in?
I want to make a rom for the Incredible 2, so I thought this would be the best place to post.
Well this is a question, so the Q&A section.

Port the dump to our phone. Install the port if you can. Flash one of aeros ICS kernals one top of that. And if it boots, you have started a project. If not......... it was worth a try.
Could brick your phone, but if you wanted to start somthing this would be my best guess.

Development is for roms, not talk or asking to make one.
I'll move this to general
if you have never made a stock rom before, let alone ported a rom...and if you arent familiar w/ modding the ramdisk and hacking up jars/apks and what libs do what......
then dont bother
(this isnt me being a jerk, just pointing out you have to walk before you can run a marathon)

If only I know how to port,
You guys have so many options to choose from, we only have like 3 or 4 to choose from and they are all TW
Hoping the wondering devs here can port like aosp, aokp, cm10, 10.1. Or even miui
It will be greatly appreciated!!
Sent from my SGH-T889 using xda premium
It would probably be better to ask your devs to port those roms. Since they know what files would be needed.

Hey studying up on this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2018411 may be a good place to start. Naturally since this is a att forum the files to be inserted would come from an att ROM but I don't see why it wouldn't work if you substituted T-Mobile files in place of the att replacement ones wouldn't work. It will open up a bunch of tw based ROMs but it'll give ya a good learning experience for one day working in aosp if your interested in it. Hopefully some more people interject on this because I think it would be beneficial to all of our forums to get this solid.

it's coming, the family is working on something, but it is TW based to start. dunno where it'll go from there, but there will not be any barf green
cooking a rom / theming ports etc take time and we all have lives outside of xda. patience is rewarded

In most cases your modem is not effected by flashing our roms. You only flash a modem if you loose your data connection. Im not sure about kernels but I dont think that would effect anything either. Not on tmo so can't say fir sure.

People with TMo have been flashing CleanROM just fine. I can't speak for the other ROMs, but I'm pretty sure they're all on the same base...which isn't even an AT&T base
Ya I'm on clean Rom

Hello everybody. I've been flashing a few ROMs lately since July, and there is so much stuff out there...I was just on Alpha Rom, now I'm trying out Tasker650 AOKP, and now I'm curious, what are the most customizable touchwiz and non touchwiz (cm/aokp/aosp) ROMs out here right now.? Thank you in advance for your input.

All you have to do is read the change log in the very first post. It'll tell you what's included in the ROM.

Users are expected to read and do research and find what hey specifically want.
Asking is like requesting a free for all of people telling you want they like or prefer. Take your tie go to the development threads and you will find the answers.

You're complaining about not enough ROMs for our device? Hmmm just the other day some guy was complaining that there are too many ROMs for this device.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-T989 using Tapatalk
LOL. Yup. I even wonder why we need so many roms. A lot are so similar. I won't complain.....but we do have a lot of stuff for an old phone. A lot!

Come on guys, clearly something is wrong with ou. We must find this "ou" and ask him/her if everything is okay.

Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda app-developers app
And I didn say we dnt got enough roms we jus dnt got any s4 roms at all none...point blank
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda app-developers app
Touchwiz is not an easy thing to tinker with.....plus it seems here that the majority of people don't care for it......so the demand for it is very low. In fact, there's only like 3 or so custom touchwiz jb roms...vs tonnes of aosp.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-T989 using Tapatalk
You cant port something without a base...we don't have a base for 4.2 touchwiz yet so we cant get s4 roms. Also like @kj2112 said its not easy....have you ever wondered why a touchwiz rom is 3 times larger than an aosp rom with gapps baked in?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-T989 using Tapatalk
Also....custom tw roms only have a few extra options usually....cause there is really only so much you can do with them.
Check out xposed. There's a lot you can customize with it. Just do a good nandroid first. Sometimes I find exposed can mess things up.

This would be a huge undertaking to say the least. There's a good reason that experienced ROM dev's don't jump all over this task. It's a cool idea for sure but is it practical due to the complexity and experience required to do this sort of thing?
Im not experienced but ive messing with dsxida kitchen and going through both roms right now seeing what differneces are there I will keep this post upfated with my progress but I will not rekease until its 90 precent bug free

I hope you have some success with this because it would be pretty awesome actually. Especially if Sense 6 was fully functional. Now are you trying to port the whole Sense 6 Rom? Perhaps you could contact a dev in the HTC EVO 4G LTE forums and similar HTC forums because those guys are always anxious to port the latest and greates versions of Sense for their phones so I'm pretty sure they could get you off to a good start. Just a thought. Seriously... good luck with this I hope it works out because i'd definitely flash it.
I actually came over from boost htc one sv I have a guy there I worked with in the past im shooting him questions to see what all is entailed

Messing with the kitchen is nothing compared to porting sense in terms of complexity.
I've done it before. It's not easy.

Again, this type of thing is gonna require some serious skills not just basic rom porting. To port newer versions of Sense on HTC phones that originally ran a previous version is still a major task let alone porting it onto a completely different piece of hardware. If it was remotely possible and feasible it would have already been done by dev teams that do have the knowledge to this sort of thing because it is a very cool idea. There's a lot of people would be interested in having Sense 5 or 6 on their phones. Let me put it this way... If highly skilled rom dev's aren't currently working on porting Sense 5 or 6 then chances are they know it's not worth it due to the complexity.

To be honest, I'd suggest you get familiar with rom porting in general before you try to port over a vendor rom.
