Maybe I would like to update my i8160p from XXME1 German May 2013 to XXMF1 France July 2013 with Odin
some noob questions maybe:
- will I lose Root ?
- will I lose my settings and my apps ? (need to play with tiBackup ?)
- I used rootappdelete to clean a little, will I need to reclean ?
- What is the difference between CSC I8160PDBTME1 and I8160POXXMF1 (and what is CSC ?)
and... is it valuable doing it ?

CSC is for France but nevermind! You can set to german. And maybe this is MultiCSC like I8160XXMF1_I8160OXXMF1_DBT?!

First returns on french forums and xda let me see that XXMF1 is increasing ram to 624mb, and perhaps give more options on lock screen...

Exactly - had this FW on my Phone (8160P ME1) and it gave me 624MB!
The option on lockscrean depents of the installed CSC.... DBT (Germany) has not allowed this... The EUR (Greece) for instance will have the lockscreen widgets....
I've just done it -> 482 Mo
(550 Mo before)
Only 482 mb!!

It contains 2 CSC files. The localization is russian and ex-USSR.
XWJFF: This is the European version, with corresponding localization.
Both files can now be found on samsung-firmwares.com
Known bugs:
The JG1 version has a serious issue with SMS, i.e. cannot send SMS written with Swype. This can be fixed by installing [email protected]'s custom rom (r2).
Some clarification on CSC, as explained very nicely by andrewin on forums.samdroid.net:
"CSC contains some country-specific apps (for example, uTalk and Naviphone for Russia), and also country APN settings.
If you enter *#272*HHMM# (where HHMM the time on your device, eg. 0750 for 7:50am) in the standard dialer and see a choice of several country codes, you have Multi CSC. Once selected, one will be applied erasing all your data.
Otherwise you will see only one country code which is already applied, that means you have Single CSC.
The CSC stays till you flash a new Multi CSC that does not have selected country code, or flash new Single CSC. "
The file in the JFF firmware is a "multi CSC", and has APN settings for western European countries, including the UK. The CSC files in the JG1 firmware, are Russian and ex-Soviet settings, and that's why the phone starts in Russian. I guess it doesn't matter since you can change the language to whatever. But your country-specific apps will not be there by default, and you will have to re-install them (Voice Search for example).

And it turns out (thanks rodney.cabahug) that you can use the multilingual CSC (I9000OXXJF9) together with the code and modem files from the JG1 firmware. (the files in JG1 are newer by about 5 days - but not necessarily better, there is a possibility that the only difference is in localization). Also, if you do this, the Swype problem disappears for the JG1 firmware (presumably the swype problem lies in the russian CSC file).

you probably need to use odin
its very easy
i used odin to flash the firmware and update.zip to root the device.
well.. it seems the same as before
think i need some more time experiencing this firmware.
no problems have found so far though.

today i rooted my new phone using adb... easiest method ever!
and now i flashed XWJG1 using ODIN3, everything worked, but now only the phone version is displayed, not the pda or csc versions... is this normal?
under telephone info - build number it says ECLAIR.XWJG1
also all apps and accounts are still there
Edit: Now my Phone isn't rooted anymore! Titanium Backup and busybox sy that! Should I just use the adb Method again?

Swype was working in German before, now it is only english. How can I change that back to german?
I feel that the GPS is somewhat better in this version and it feels a bit faster. All the swype languages are there for me.
yes, I can select all swype languages, but only the english dictionary is being loaded. all other languages get an error

yes.. overall ..a little bit faster. but Market is significant faster... no more serious stall issue

So does that mean that JFB contained more languages than this one?
I also think from reading on other forums that the OXE is the CIS countries (former soviet republics)...
So I just got my SGS4m back from being fixed as the motherboard had fried and I checked the firmware and found that I am now on EUR CSC. I used to be on XEF (I think) - France anyway as that is where the phone is from but for some strange reason they changed it to what I assume is a general European one. So my question is, should I change it back you think? I have the ML4 now. What Im thinking is 4.4.2 and how it'll probably be released for France first and then for all of Europe generally.

you can change it back beeing on stock using csc selector (needs root, and will factory reset your phone)

Im thinking in terms of updates. EUR is the Greek one as it turns out and from past experience I know that 4.4.2 will come out way later for EUR than it will for XEF which was my original French one
so I booted to recovery and I get very few options plus on the bottom it says

hi guys, i first installed the russian Nougat update because in germany (DBT) it wasnt out like 2 weeks ago.
So now it's out and i flashed the original german one over it with wiping everything. So far so good. The problem that i have now is that my orginal CSC "DBT" isn't activated.... it automatically installed the "BTU" CSC (UK)
My question now: How can i change back to DBT? I flashed the german CSC again but i doesn't seem to work that way :/ I added some screenshots from Samsung Phone Info App. The Original CSC-Code line is also blank whyever....

Yeah i flashed the Portuguese rom and somehow got the sloveanian csc. I tried using the method above for changing but it didnt work. It doesnt matter, its the same stuff anyway.
The other method is to flash a single CSC rom and after flash DBT CSC

Can you please tell me what is your Knox Warranty Void status after all that flashing? I'm concerned about warranty if I flash german firmware which doesn't have the same csc as mine.

Sorry for interuption, but i just want to confirm - you had French firmware and then you flashed Russian and then again went back to French and your original csc has changed during this but your warranty isnt void? Thank you very much.

sorry ,i didn't have precised ...
original provider firmware (sfr france) MM 6==> flash XEF unbranded MM6 firmware with odin providing to sammobile ( but it's a multi-csc firmware and BTU is the csc-master)==> i wait OTA for N7
But when i have flashed this MM unbranded ,i didn't have had problem with my knox
As i have said ,if you flash a FULL official signed firmware ,in theory it's ok :good:

You have to choose the correct ROM first. So if your phone is SM-A505F you need that ROM. Not recommended to use other ROMs like SM-A505 FN, G etc.
Once you have the correct ROM (must be newer than your current) use Odin 3.13 or newer to flash your phone . before flashing do back up and then remove all accounts!!! Then remove your SIM and memocard and do hard reset. Connect to Odin in download mode and flash. Wait till its completely finished and boot up your phone. 1st boot can take up to 10 minutes, once you see the Start screen insert the SIM card from desired region and let the phone restart again.
My phone for some reason picked up CAC product code (Uzbekistan). Flashed latest ROM inserted my Vodafone SIM and after restart my phone was on BTU (UK unbranded).
is flashing different CSC ROM will trip Knox
I my case this method for FN version did not worked any different way to do it?

No it wont trip knox as long as you are flashing official samsung firmware.
OK I investigate a bit today
looks like I was able to change CSC from ROM to FTM (Freanch Orange) using brand Orange from Poland (OPV) - all was done with JUN patch the same patch level files
I would like to change from ROM to XEO (Poland unbranded) and for this I did not found any way to work

I think that it's somehow let you change the CSC only one time... I recalling that I was able to do it on my A50 and A70 but only one time...
in my case it is more like I can change to branded CSC like orange or T-Mobile ( did this few time) but it not give me Poland as a country
I cannot change to unbranded CSC like XEO - it always show ROM as active CSC (softwanre CSC it is showing XEO) but for example news I have from Romania

typically it will remain as whatever sim you have in the phone.. there are tricks u can do.. id search some more as theres many csc related threads.. also make sure that csc u want is actually included on the device already since if it doesnt exist then well you cant use it until u get the right csc..

You didn't say what region you want. In my case I was after UK (BTU) or Germany (DBT).
Do hard reset (sim and memory card remove). Turn on phone without sim and wait until it says No sim inserted. Insert the sim from region or country you want to have on your phone.
Make sure you have multi CSC ROM. In my case it was ok. Changed from CAC to BTU.

I'm in Africa specifically Ghana. But I don't have LTE only in my network mode so wanted to switch to a different CSC.

There's no LTE/4G only mode. So if this is what you want no need for flashing different ROM.

You need multi CSC ROM. First time boot up without sim and memory card. When boot finished will tell you insert sim. I think Samsung set up phones to allow ONLY one change and only first time...
