Testers need for Screen Sensitivity Script - Samsung Epic 4G Touch

Hello all, I have been tweaking screen sensitivity on a couple of phones and have a script to try out on the ET4G. Since I no longer have the phone I need about 10 testers to download the script, push it to the proper place, set permissions and reboot. And tell me if the script makes your screen twice as sensitive (or thereabouts lol). Pm please.... If it works I will put it in the developers area for all to use and credit the testers there:good:

I'm willing to test. Questions though... Did you build it for AOSP /AOKP or TW. What are the current devices you have it on? What are the issues per device that you or other testers encountered.
I don't think many people will test without those questions answered first. Not trying to be rude, but I personally don't want to have to diagnose and fix an issue if i can help it.
Please update the OP with that information.

[Must read] broken forum

Devs, n00bs, seniors, everyone. Please calm down.
N00bs..read before you post. This is a big cause to recent drama. I read a thread today and the same question was asked and answered on like3 straight pages... this is not called for.
Devs please consider the level of readiness before posting a Rom. My fav developer makes his Rom as close to bug free by having about 10 guys test the Rom before he releases it. Doing this would cut back on n00b questions and stupid posts. I love all you work this is just an idea.
Everyone else please don't fight and make things worse. Help the n00bs with links to forum rules and such.
I make all these mistakes too. But we need to fix it. We are losing our community.

I'll add to this a bit if you don't mind. Any noobs feel free to pm me whatever the question may be and I will try to help. There is no sense starting a new thread because 99%of the time the question has been answered and i honestly I like to help. I don't have time to develop so this is my attempt to give back to a community I got a lot out of. I may not have your answer but will most likely be able to send you in the right direction and knipp is extremely helpful and knowledgeable as well. I personally don't care but don't post a thread like help plz I bricked my phone in the dev section unless you have a pair of flame retardant pants. Look bottom line is I'm here to help if anyone needs it

Also knipp what do you think about starting a kind of all in one place thread similar to what's stickied in the dev section only a little more recent and updated with an faq? I don't know how many times I posted the gingerbread ruu for people recently. If you don't have the time I can do it or certainly help at the very least. Just wanted to get your opinion on this matter

This. It's extremely refreshing when a dev spends good time creating a ROM for a phone. It's nice to be handed a ROM that has been tested and is essentially bug free. I praise the guys that do that, and the guys that stick to their work. Doing it for fun rather than for money.
Of course I'm not expecting a good ROM to fall into our laps, I do like to follow projects from start to finish just as long as the dev(s) are working solely on that project - Like Cyanogen.
I agree about posting ROMs that are fully tested.. but then only 10 or so get to enjoy the ROM until it's stable. It's nice having everyone give feedback because 100 testers is better than 10. But I 100% agree with you, we need to get this community back on track, and we as users can help indefinitely.
We need to remember, not too long ago we we n00bs. I didn't even know what an .apk was. Now I know how to edit and decompile .apks.
Let's help to make this a fun and sharing community again.

My experience in Q&A

So I finally posted in the Q&A section last night because I messed up my SystemUI.apk while trying to theme it...
I asked a simple question asking if anyone could post the stock apk from the latest leak... and never got a response yet.
I no longer need it because I have flashed CM9 since it was what I had on my SD when I flashed today.
I now know why there are so many users that post questions in the general section of the forum. This is the most disappointing part of this community other than the people who like stirring up arguments in the community.
If there is anyone else who has had a similar experience or that thinks that this forum lacks in helpful information, post here to explain your story and how you feel the community should change.

I understand completely what you are saying. I used to live in the Q&A section to try to help because there's not a lot of people that DO put in the effort and go out their way. I didn't get my "thanks" from being a mod, believe me, lol. I try to be laid back for that reason in the general section, but I can only allow so many questions before it gets overwhelming. I have seen a handful of members in this section that will see people through to get the help the asking members need. And I love that. Sometimes you have to give it a little more time, or a shameless bump is in order.

Yeah, I could have given it a little bit more time but without a status bar I didn't want to wait...
I guess instead of complaining about it, I will take the initiative to contribute my experience with the E4GT to the community. I'm no developer but I will try to help as best as I can.

Did you flash agats ics theme over the stock fe22? If thats the case he labeled them wrong and you have to flash deodexed instead of odexed theme. It was mentioned in the fe22 thread, happened to a few of us but you would really have to read everything to find it.
I look at q&a sometimes but I learned most of the stuff here from reading and most of the questions there are because people are too lazy to read. I typically just provide a link to a thread if I do answer any questions. Yours is valid though I flashed and downloaded the rom and that stupid theme 3 times thinking i had a bad flash checking md5 and stuff.

I flashed the odexed theme... I also thought it was a bad flash. I usually read most of the thread and the comments.
I just didn't read enough to see that there was a problem flashing over stock.

This time it was buried and as dumb as I felt flashing a theme that said deodexed over a stock rom it worked.

Thats pretty demanding, seeing that you are asking for free help. You should wait longer, and if you cant, thats why its always suggested to NAND backup your stuff.
You must realize that we all have lives outside of this forum, I too try to help out as often as I can with what little knowledge I have. Its the only way I can give back but I also work full-time and go to college full-time. So there are a few days where I can't find the time to post or help out. I'm not by any means saying that this is the case for everyone here, just simply giving you an example that may or may not be the case for some of us here.
I can almost promise you, however, if you give it enough time, someone WILL come to your aid.
I just hope you realize this and don't think any less of these people here. They really do put a lot of time and effort into helping and developing for all of us in hopes of getting nothing more than a simple "thanks".
I also hope that your next experience is nothing like the previous one.

I agree with the backup idea, but I'm not touching the backup restore functions on an ICS kernel until it has been fully tested and determined to be safe to use.
I thought I had backups of the SystemUI on my SD card but they were for earlier builds and would not work. I realize that everyone has their own life outside of XDA. That is why when I saw that my question didn't even have one reply when several other questions had new comments, I decided to just flash a new ROM.
The reason I have started this thread is because I am not the first user to be ignored when asking a simple question to ask if someone could help with such a simple issue.

In theory, yea. But a lot of those answers you "searched" for are found in the Q&A section.
---Jay--- From the CM9 powered E4GT
I admit I don't frequent Q&A as much as I do General and Development, but if I see something I feel that I can answer then I always try to contribute. If it's something completely out of my league but I know someone who might know the answer then I will, occasionally, post that information.
While I understand OP's need for a quick resolution (although most questions in Q&A need the same) I agree with those who have advocated allowing a little more time for people to respond.
I know it can be frustrating (and intimidating) to be stuck on a problem with no answer but again, as stated in the posts above, sometimes people who can help simply aren't online at the time the problem is posted. Though I'm here a lot during the day (from work, shhhh) in the evenings my time is a bit more sporadic and I've come back to the computer with PMs from people who asked me something but thought I was ignoring them, that bothers me because I would never willingly ignore someone.
So I think Q&A definitely has its uses and maybe this post should be our tap on the shoulder to peruse it more often and see if there is something we can help answer.
To the OP.
Why didn't you just download one of the stock roms in the roms section and extract your own?

When most roms here are 1 click executable files its not so easy to extract the apk...
And with most of the roms that are zipped, they are already themed...
I have resolved my own issue by flashing a new rom, that was not the point of this thread... the point I wanted to bring up with this thread is that it is apparent that 95% of the users here only frequent General and Development. If more users just checked Q&A once and a while to see if there is anyone needing help with something that they have already experienced, they could easily reply with what they did to resolve the issue.
Let's all stop pointing the blame and help to better the community... we all can help in one way or another.

[Q] Bug free roms

Can you guys please help me find a ROM (4.x.x) that is completely bug free? I had to ask this question because I wanted to upgrade from a long time ( I am on 2.3.3 phantom rom) to ICS or JB but all I could find is either alpha or beta version of roms. Most other are direct derivatives of these buggy versions. Something does not work or something is broken in most of them from what I read. So if you can help me by suggesting some roms that I can upgrade to with out experiencing bugs that would help me. Thanks!

Simple and straightforward answer. There's NONE. With less bugs you should ask.
Try some, if you like keep it, if not keep trying. Doesn't hurt to do some tries and research.
But seriously: In Before The Lock.

Don't flame it is against XDA rules, no matter what the question is.
Thread moved to Q&A.
Any of the new jb leaks fk23 thru ga10 are pretty good dd if your looking for something along the lines of touchwiz based roms if you like something different then you can try out cm10.1 which Im reading has very good feed back its all about your preferences on what you do with your phone if you like playing with tweaks or if your just someone that wants a simple phone to make calls on ect ect. Theres alot of roms out there that have minimum issues my suggestion is look thru the threads check out the screenshots if it looks like something you may want to run do some light reading thru the thread and see what people are reporting as far as issues.

Sorry you feel that way.
But in the history of the e4gt forums, such threads have not been very fruitful.
Few reasons..
-A bug I experience with a particular ROM, may not be experienced by someone else.
-Something not working on a ROM such as MHL on a rom may not be a big deal for me but may be a "major" bug for someone else.
-Lastly not all developers think alike and some may not be happy when their ROM is not mentioned in such threads..
Thats why such threads are always closed by Mods in this forum. Thus all the negative comments.
Im pretty happy with the one click oden FL16, i might try out the new version. If you want working wimax stick with stock/ touchwiz roms. All ASOP, AKOP, CM10, CM10.1 roms say there 4g works. but really all it does is turn on and look like it works. You will only experience blazing speeds of 750k.

While I understand that, the better way instead of filling this thread with negative comments is to explain that. Then after that, you could report it and link to a thread discussing it :good:
I like cm10.1 right now. If you want something pretty bug free and easy to install get the fk23 or ga10 one clicks. They are pretty much test otas from what I can tell and work well. They are tw based but they got a lot of the ICS and Jb features.

[FIX] Chameleon Fix!

Attention users!
Around our community, I have been seeing a lot of people having problems with the carrier / Chameleon error from switching between LJ1 / LJC / LK8 / MA5 roms.
This error happens when you boot your phone.
It starts the Hands Free Activation, and then the Chameleon Force Close happens.
With this flashable .zip, that will happen NO MORE!
This is an LJC Carrier Restore.
We have this awesome fix made by Garwynn (Tested by -EVil KoNCEPTz-) and it works like a charm.
Just flash this .zip file in TWRP or CWM and BOOM, Chameleon errors gone!
http://www.mediafire.com/?87k042cy13hb1yc
If you want more information on the fix or just want to look at the original posts, here are the original threads provided by Garwynn:
Original thread that (Garwynn) somewhat hijacked - sorry:

I'm giving my blessing to this post as I hijacked another's thread for it.
Besides, my original posts attached them as ZIPs into the thread.
OP,
Please make sure to repost both ZIPs from the original thread if you're going to post.
Make sure they know which carrier build they will flash depending on ZIP.
Other than that you're good in my eyes.

Yea garwynn and I both gave the OK. I was intending to start a thread for it and, well you know, life got in the way and I forgot about it.
I like to break stuff!
As you probably know, I'm still fairly new to xda and developing.
What happened before was dumb on my part for not knowing rules and such, and users took it out of proportion seeing as things like that don't happen much here.
I've proceeded to apologize to the developer and he accepted my apology.
You have my word, whatever I post here on out with be official and regulated.
As I stated before, still pretty new to the developing community.
I'm currently working on some projects of my own as a starter. (Mods, rom, etc.)
My reason behind starting a new thread for this topic is because I've seen numerous users having problems with the chameleon error, so I took the initiative to ask if I could post this purely to help and inform other users.
What happened before was a 1 time thing.
I still expect respect as I give it.

When I first installed MA5 I got Chameleon stopped errors 4 or so times while the phone was first booting up, but as far as I can tell it didn't hurt anything.
On subsequent reboots and a couple of nandroid restores back to my old rom then back to the new one, it never happened again, and my phone seems to be fully working, including calls and txt.
So it was a very transient error that fixed itself just by rebooting or maybe even just by waiting.
Given that, do we know that a more invasive fix is even really necessary? Does it not clear after a reboot for some people? What does it break?
Also a description of what this fix does would be nice. People should not flash things without some idea of what it will actually do and how it will do it.

The error only applies if you revert to LJC/LJ1 after going to LK8/MA5. If you don't do this, you won't see it and you can move along without concern
For those going back you will have an issue as LJ1/LJC use an earlier SQLite DB version in the carrier partition than previous versions. Chameleon.apk in those earlier builds doesn't know how to handle it and so it crashes.
There are two solutions to this: Move chameleon to the new version to match the new DB version (which is Fix #1) or revert the carrier partition - which can be flashed by Odin but Sammy doesn't make an image for some reason - to LJC. (Fix #2)
One person reported that deleting the partition contents also forced a rebuild, but I'm personally not a fan of that option. No guarantee without seeing for myself that it rebuilds properly.
Great Post Regardless...Somehow I missed the Orig post anyway..LOL Thatnks to Gar and all who was involved...

Yes, there has been a post that has the actual coding in it for the fix so devs can implement it into the roms themselves.

Hey, just be glad garwynn and I were able to find that damn database error. I had poked around for a few weeks trying to figure it out then we dumped some logs from my phone during multiple errors and then again after updating chameleon and found the mismatched sqlite versions which were wreaking havoc on the chameleon apk and HFA. Basically every reboot the phone thought it was deactivated cuz it couldn't verify auth data in the carrier db's. Thanks for getting the thread up finally
PS. Next time someone posts something of mine with credit in the OP, trying PMing me before you rip the poster apart or just don't even bother saying anything at all. I don't GAF about credit or thanks, I do what I do for myself and just share because theres no point in hoarding my work. If I have a problem with someone posting my work I'll deal with it. I don't need people berating others for posting my work on my behalf. Honestly I'd be more pissed at others reactions than the person who posted my work. Thanks for your cooperation, now please edit all the unnecessary bashing of the OP and apologize for jumping all over them when it wasn't your place to try and get involved with something that was privately dealt with between the proper parties prior to being posted here. The OP did me a favor by posting this for us since I've been busy and hadn't gotten around to it, and this directly benefits everyone on this forum. Anyone who doesn't edit and apologize will be noted, and I will no longer help you or click your thanks button out of sheer principle. Thanks for your cooperation.

AM not the bashing type anyways..Great point though EvilK:good:

To all devs

I would love it if every rom posting would go back to the format of what is working and not...it is hard to keep flashing roms just to see what is working or not...plus I'm sure I'm wearing out my phone flashing 5 roms in a day just to find out they all have the same flaws or not or even if it was fixed..ie does video calling work, or hml, or any other feature that this phone can normally do...remember when devs use to have 2 lists in the op and pictures so you could window shop for your rom and not have to spend the time downloading, wiping and flashing just to restore your nandroid because you don't like the look or the fact some things don't work...it would really help and it only takes a couple of minutes.....thank all of you for your time and development of this device...

Although I agree, your going tone other get zero response or (and more probable) catch flack about being demanding.
While typically, the android community development is free, everyone has became accustomed to the idea that eta's, change logs, working/not working lists are simply below them. Perhaps in their eyes it is. What I would like to remind everyone is this...time isn't limitless, and can be very valuable to some. If you don't like the community feedback (ie. Asking for these lists; small stuff) than maybe you should just (loosely) develop and/or cook ROMs for your own personal use. Xda is a community... A community built on knowledge, user base, and the good ol' boy system.
Just remember what we are here for. We all own a T989 and want to make our devices outlast even the newer models.

The point I'm trying to make is that it would stop cluttering up all the threads with people asking if stuff works all the time when they can just read the op... I see countless people asking if stuff works because they don't know...

You're assuming that people will read and thus not need to ask. As someone who spent over a year developing for the vibrant I couldn't even count the times that I either directed someone's questions to the op that contained the answer or just ignored the questions all together. Now as just an onlooker who casually flashes I read the op and if I don't see the answer I want I watch the thread and let others ask/answer or do my own research like checking out gerrit or just move on and find something else.
When I was building ROMs I would spend hours at the computer and by the time I got around to posting my work I may have forgotten one or two things so change logs were usually only partial.
Getting the latest software on your phone while free does take a little effort on the part of the user.

I'm not asking for a change log just a simple list of what is working and not it's like 6 things and never really changes unless something is fixed...I think you guys are really missing the point...

O and about the free thing I don't ask anyone to do this for us and I certainly don't expect it but if you are going do something for a lot of people than do it right...I do a lot of free things in my life...I'm a dj for 27 years in sfla and I have to spin for free most of the time because nobody wants to pay, but that doesn't mean that I am going to do a subpar job for all my fans just because I'm not going to get paid...I do it because I love it and if someone had a request I don't say well I'm doing this for free so too bad...I hate that argument you guys always use...and I donate where appropriate....

Well the reason this is happening is because 4.2 just came out. People are curious to know what works and what doesn't. Devs haven't had enough time to check all of the glitches and bugs. Devs also rely on us for fixing bugs because they don't always have the time to do it.
As per the same questions being asked over and over, people simply don't know what the search button does.
And yeah

Wow! Someone just makes a basic request and gives thanks to developers, and suddenly everyone is all over him and getting all defensive about developers feelings or something. How did it turn into this??
I kind of agreed with the request as far as how nice it might be to know pros and cons of each rom without reading through pages and pages of useless posts in the dev threads to find out each detail. It seems to me that most developers appreciate it when more people are using their rom (and obviously people appreciate the rom they're using) sooo...it might help people to understand what they're flashing and they might be more likely to flash a rom that they understand from a end-user point of view.
If developers don't want to add a list of what works and what doesn't to the OP, then they don't have to. If developers want to help flashers in their decision-making process (and likely boost the number of people using their rom), then adding such a list might help.
As far as I can tell, that's the end of the story.
So if the Op doesn't state what's working, then people have the right to clutter threads and annoy them, right? Its a win win situation, unless devs like being asked the same question a billion times. It could help keep the clutter to a minimum but its up to the devs. Not that I'm demanding a perfect op, but there are reasons as to why people ask and ask.
1. Too lazy to read.
2. Fast response wanted(see 1)
3. Op doesn't state what's working.
4. Search doesn't always help( at least for me on the xda app.)
5. People want a solution.

OP, your post has been noted and understood. But so that there isn't any bashing/flaming happening, closing the thread, as I removed a couple "not needed" type of posts already in this thread.
Thank You.
