[Q] possible wifi/bluetooth issue? - T-Mobile Samsung Galaxy S 4

I've had the GS4 for a few days now and so far it's been great, but...
I was watching some movie previews on the Play store while connected to WIFI and the video kept pausing/buffering. I have good 4g coverage so I tried it with that and it worked fine.
Now my WIFI is not blazing fast, but it should be able to handle this task. I decided to run a speed test, and with WIFI it's slow and stutters or just stops...sometimes I get a network communication error (SpeedTest app). If I use the cellular network instead, no problems.
I then tried turning off my Bluetooth headset and WIFI works fine! Bluetooth radio is still on, but not connected to anything. As soon as I connect my headset (and I tried two different ones), the WIFI problem starts again. I haven't taken any further steps other than removing and re-adding the WIFI connection profile.
Coming from an HTC Amaze and it's WIFI/Bluetooth issues, this is a little distressing. I hope this is just something with my phone software and maybe a factory reset will clear it up, or some other simple explanation. Could someone out there test this on their GS4 and let me know if they can reproduce this issue?
Thanks!

OK, so I did a factory reset and immediately noticed the same problem after connecting my Bluetooth headset. Streaming audio alone seems to be fine, but when video is playing and the audio is streaming to my headset I get a lot of buffering. I know there is another thread out there about WIFI being slow, but on my device it's fine unless I am using it as described above. Would someone else please check if their device behaves similarly?

Bluetooth not alive when phone is locked?

All,
I have this small issue with my HTC Desire and the Parrot CK3000 Evolution. Until now, everything works perfectly (calling, sending contacts, voice dialing, ending calls,...)
However I have one small issue. When I enter my car, and my phone is locked, the Desire will not pair with the Parrot. From the moment I activate the screen, pairing is done within a few seconds. I already tried to leave it there for half an hour, no pairing, touched the screen, pairing within a few seconds.
It looks to me like the bluetooth is not active / alive when the phone is locked (or in sleep). From the moment the pairing is done, everything works fine, also when the phone is back in lock / sleep.
Anybody has anything similar or has a solution for this? I searched the market for some kind of Bluetooth-keep-alive application, but could not really find it...
Thanks in advance,
Best regards,
Speedygerre
Small bump, nobody any idea for a solution or somekind of workaround / app?

I have a similar situation with my Audi A5 (factory BT kit).
It will connect when the phone is locked (screen off etc) but it can take anything from 1 to 10 minutes before it does connect.
Like yourself, my Desire connects immediately if the phone is not locked.
Strangely, it appears to work OK in my Mazda MX-5 which has a Kenwood DNX8220BT system (Bluetooth, SatNav, Ipod, coffee maker etc) - and the Bluetooth is a Parrot system. Having said that, I haven't used the MX-5 much since I got my Desire so it might not be a representative sample.
There is definitely something amiss though.
I have a Parrot CK 3100, and whilst I am happy to report that I do not have the same problem as you, I did have a problem syncing my contacts.
Check out this site, and download the software to udate to the latest firmware. You will need a laptop with either built in bluetooth, or a seperate bluetooth dongle.
http://www.parrot.com/uk/support/onlinehelpguides
I updated the firmware on mine, and now my contacts sync properly.
There is a good chance that updating could fix your connection problem as well.
Sorry forgot to add, that updating the kit really is a doddle, but their software is Windows 32bit ONLY and definitely no MAC!
Thans pergolesi, I hope your suggestion workshop, I will try it when I have some time one of the next days.
However I still think it has something to do with the Desire, since syncing workshop perfectly when Desire is not locked...

I don't know about the Bluetooth but I know my wifi deactivates after about 5 minutes when it's locked even though I have it set to never turn off. Maybe the Bluetooth is doing the same.
Perhaps not much help, but I sometimes play music from my Desire on my car headunit using Bluetooth streaming, and that continues to work fine when the screen goes off and the phone is locked. It also still responds to commands from the headunit (skip, pause, etc).
Once it's connected, everything works OK for me as well, it just is the connecting moment which apparently does not always work

Can I ask what year your A5 is? I've got a 2010 A3 and BT doesn't work properly with my Desire I can get it to pair, but then it will disconnect a few minutes later and the only way to reconnect seems to be to unpair/repair or switch the car off/on. When it IS working it can make calls, etc. fine - but I just can't get it to stay connected I tried my Audi dealer but they just said it's not on the Audi list and there's no update to support it, so interested to hear you got it working on your A5.

My A5 is a 2008 model with SatNav and therefore MMI High. The Desire paired straight away with no problems and both the car and the phone remember each other - it just takes awhile sometimes for one or the other to realise it and connect.
I'm pretty certain that it is the phone that has the problem as I had no such problems with several Sony Ericsson phones previously.

Thanks - interesting. I wonder how many different BT stacks Audi run - I was hoping they'd share some common code and therefore be updated quickly but it sounds like this isn't the case given that it's working fine on your A5. Thanks for the info though!

Bluetooth Connectivity With My Car

After searching this forum there is no thread on Bluetooth issues connectivity.
For a wile now i been searching the net and different sites for a fix between my phone and my car bluetooth. Before the epic i had a windows phone and the connectivity was fine including all the phonebook would load up and everything the system was build to do. With Android Epic i been having issues. Sometimes I cant connect to the car and other I am able to connect but phonebook wont load.
With all the Geniuses in the website i am sure someone can come up with a fix.
I figured i open this thread hoping we can find a final fix to retire this problem.
If it helps I am running the latest Viper Rom with Genocide kernel at 1.2ghz
However the rom did not change the statues of my issue.
Any help would be appreciated.
Thanks
I also have connectivity issues with bluetooth, in my case the car has A2DP allowing for music to be played over the car's stereo. It cuts out so much that it is completely useless for music. I mostly listen to podcasts but Pandora would be nice. However it cuts out so much that it isn't worth it. So if anyone does have a solution. To me though I've tried so many kernels, and roms to no avail that I'm pretty sure taht the software Samsung has shipped has faulty drivers. By the way it also seems that the cut outs occur when switching towers, however I could be wrong.
I use this in my car: http://us.kensington.com/html/14484.html
It may cut out every 45 seconds or so but it's the only thing I've used. Got it on sale for $20.
I've got a pair of a2dp bluetooth headphones that I use to listen to podcasts via my Epic. I've had zero problems with those (using DK28 atm, for the record). So I don't think there's a hardware problem with the Epic's bluetooth.
If we're going to get some troubleshooting done, we should get a bunch of details from everyone. Like exactly what bluetooth hardware they're using, and what roms they're running.

Does everything cut out, or just Pandora? If it's just Pandora and other apps that need data connection, it might not be a bluetooth problem as much as a data connection problem.
I would suggest testing it by trying the car bluetooth with something that requires no data connection at all, like pre-downloaded podcasts.
I am talking about connectivity issues with in stock car bluetooths.
this problem is big many people been having this issue and there is a list of stock bluetooth cars that android wont pair with. I had the touch pro 2 for sprint with windows system and it worked fine in my car bought the epic and there we go. Now looks kind of bad that i would need to get an aftermarket piece to listen to bluetooth calls and load up the phonebook from android to my car.
Windows got it right even though i would never go back to a windows phone so i know there is something that android messed up here
Below i will put some links to show you how there is A LOT of people that been having this issue.

I have a 2006 Dodge Durango. It has Bluetooth. My old phone, a Samsung flip phone would connect without issue. My new phone, a Samsung Captivate, will connect most of the time, but often times, once it connects, it drops the call.
I understand this is an Epic thread, but I thought I would add my input as I am having similar problems (and this came up on my search).
If I understand you correctly, you connect some of the time and sometimes not.
Regardless, if your phone is rooted you might wanna try this.
I had a lot of issues with my bluetooth after upgrading to froyo and tried a lot of fixes including wipe3x and odin to stock....this is the one that worked for me.

Ensure that you first
- delete the car from your phone,
- delete the phone from your car,
- disable bluetooth,
- delete the file,
- CHANGE YOUR BLUETOOTH DEVICE name,
- restart,
- reenable bluetooth
- re-pair your phone with the car.

[Q] Problems with connection to BT car radio

Connecting my One X to my BT car radio always worked fine. After installing 1.29 however I have problems. When connecting, it connects for a couple of seconds and then BT and Data shut down. I get the warning that there is a problem with Com.android.phone
I have to restart the phone to get back my data connection.
Anyone have any suggestion?

I've posted about this on the development forum. The issue I have is similar, but I do not get the problem with com.android.phone. Mine just keeps connecting then disconnecting, then re-connecting, over and over. I'm now running the NRG Energy blue ROM, but this too has the same issue. My previous phone, HTC Desire HD worked without any issues connecting to my cars bluetooth. I've asked on the development forum when to start looking in regards the bluetooth, but I've had no response from anyone. Its a shame really, as this forum is for the development, and no one is willing to help newbie developers.
Yes indeed, it seems to be quiet here.
My One X was doing fine before, but after the update no more ands free in the car. Otherwise my phone is great.

How is you Wifi reception?
Could be related to this issue
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1688538
Wifi and blutooth are affected since it is the same radio.
WiFi no problem. BT also works fine to transfer between phones. It's just with the car radio that the problem appears.

Connection issues with Bluetooth

I have probably not so unique situation.
My Honda allows for calling via bluetooth but not audio streaming. I use an old Blackberry Gateway for that which works perfectly when I had my Samsung S2.
With the Note, the BB Gateway connects and streams audio fine but the car cannot maintain a constant connection at the same time.
I use A2DP volume (which is pretty awesome for free) to force connection attempts. If the BB gateway is not connected, the car maintains its connection. It seems the Note2 cannot do both.
Does anyone have similar problems or a work around? Or maybe know if the new leaked update fixes this? I heard it does update something about BT...
I'm stock rooted BTW

I'm having the same problem. I have a 2006 Pontiac GTO with a Kenwood touch screen and my Note 2 will connect fine, and it will stay connected with no issues until I switch to another playlist, artist, or song. That's when it seems to just disconnect itself and then, about 30 seconds later, reconnect itself.
I've tested this on stock unrooted (LJ1 and LJC), stock rooted (LJC and LK8), Jellybomb v10.2 and v11 (LJC), and H20 beta's 2.1 and 3.1 (LK8) with no luck. I also just recently started trying to use A2DP volume and it definitely helped with displaying the correct song name, artist and album (it wasn't changing when the song would change prior to using A2DP) so it's definitely an improvement but...
Considering how much I drive and how much I LOVE music this is becoming an area of major concern. If any of the amazing developers, or anybody for that matter, has any words of wisdom, suggestions, fixes, etc. it would be HUGELY appreciated.

I'm having similar problems with certain roms. Only my truck is a Chevy not Honda. Using blackberry audio gateway. The "Note Card 2.2" rom works perfect for me, along with JellyBomb. I didn't like JellyBomb. I want to switch to another. I need to spend time and found out what is different between the working and non-working Roms. I had the same problem with my EVO 4g. Some Roms worked perfect, others acted up.

Bluetooth skipping when WiFi is connected

I have choppy/skippy bluetooth when I am connected to my WiFi. Can anyone suggest a fix?
I have checked with WiFi off and no skipping occurs then. It only occurs when i am connected to my home WiFi network.
I've noticed the skipping with bluetooth too. I've not tried it with wifi off until I saw your post, but you are right, the skipping is gone when wifi is off. Unfortunately listening to music via bluetooth is when I need my wifi the most. I hope this gets fixed, it's a bummer for me. I thought about returning the phone because of it. I've rooted, tried the kernels available and flashed back to stock but the stutter persisted. I'll let you know if I come up with anything.
It's just crappy implementation by Android. Stock Android has always had crappy BT
Same here, I also noticed that skipping stops while in the bluetooth settings.
I'm getting the same issue even after the December update.
Watching YouTube with Bluetooth and WiFi is an awful experience.
Thinking about returning it and seeing if the Oneplus 3T has the basics working.
