Can't install any sense rom - G2 and Desire Z Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

Hi,
I have some problem. I'm pretty new to desire z community, but I did s-off, root, recovery and install 4.0.4 aokp some time ago.
Lately I'd like to try some newer than stock sense, so I downloaded few different sense roms from rom list, but none worked. Non-sense roms work like a charm. After installing sense rom phone boots to htc logo, vibrate and reboot to recovery.
What I am doing wrong or what I didn't do? can someone help?
cheers guys.

That's your issue, you do not have an engineering bootloader. See post 30 in the thread I linked, the dzPC10IMG.zip will be what you are looking for and instructions are there.
I cant guarantee it will be safe to flash to your phone with out you confirming you rooted via the gfree method (instructions in that post to check) but others have said it works fine even without true radio soff
Sent from my Nexus 4 using xda premium

gfree returned me the same output as you wrote on instructions:
gfree verify_cid returned:
@cid: 11111111
OK
gfree verify_secu_flag returned:
@secu_flag: 0
OK
gfree verify_simlock returned:
@simlock= 00
OK

then flash one of my custom PC10IMG.zips found in that link, use the DZ one actually. let me know if the download link is working or not, i think they are in an old dropbox link and i've been too lazy to reupload them elsewhere
oh and being you probably cant use fastboot to flash use the hboot method

dropbox link is working, and it's done by hboot method. thanks for your help

Glad to here, if for any reason you want to change bootloaders again make sure they are eng and use fastboot to do so as it is the safest way
Enjoy your sense ROMs!

its real easy flash the unrevoked s-on tool untill the bootloader says s-on it may take more than one time it may not after that flash the ruu with the build that came with your phone
So I download the file to my card then what? I'm lost here sorry
Sent from my PC36100 using XDA App
Unrevoked 3.21/3.22 automatically runs Unrevoked Forever after the rooting is done (this is the very last step of the process before your phone boots up). That's why you end up getting NAND unlocked (S-OFF).
So you are looking to go back to stock and do not want to run Wireless Tethering anymore yes?
Download the S-ON tool and place it on the root of your SDcard (not in any folders). Go into recovery and flash the S-ON file and it hopefully should make your phone S-ON again.
Thank you. I'll try that! I'll let you know.

So it flashed the s-on and no luck. Done it twice ashtray and no luck. Should I keep trying?

From the unrevoked forever wiki page, it says to download the s-on.zip and flash it. If its not working, try re-downloading another unrevoked-forever-son.zip file and try again, otherwise I'm not sure what else to tell you, sorry.
[GUIDE] How to Unroot the EVO in 2 STEPS
This unroot guide written by djR3Z says to keep trying until it works.
Do you have radio version 2.15.00.11.19? I know you cannot S-OFF while on this radio version, so maybe you cannot S-ON either.
You will need to downgrade the radio first to 2.15.00.09.01. My real suggestion is to flash the mtd-eng.img hack, RUU back to 3.30, S-ON, RUU to 3.70.
I just finished! Had to flash a recovered rom. Stock rom that is. It was quite the process but I did it! Thanks for the help everyone!

A great place to go is cyanogenmod.com and look at the wiki, they go step by step of how to get s-off, eng-off and everything else you would need, but you do need to know if you are using desire or desire hd

So why my HBOOT says its a BRAVO huh? I know its a desire because the name on the box, hboot and working roms of desire. IS IT POSSIBLE TO RE-ROOT AND S-OFF BY UPGRADING THE HBOOT TO THE GOOD VERSION?
From personal experience on a Desire, messing with the HBoot can have a chance of bricking the device. I got stuck where I could only enter commands through fastboot and adb, then tried everything possible to get it back to no avail.

Why don't you root and get with s-off unrevoked (root) and alpharev 1.8 (s-off)? Alpharev 1.8 supports the hboot version of your desire:

That was not my question. My question was, why you don't use alpharev live cd to get s-off? You wrote you could not go s-off with revolutionary. So you must be still s-on. And with s-on you cannot use fastboot.

So you burned the iso with magiciso on a cd and the computer does not boot from it? Is that right?
If not, could you explain this sentence "Evertime i try to make that live cd with MagicIso my dvd rom opens up" a little more (what exactly do you do?), please? Because I do not understand it.
I found you had to have a stock rooted rom installed to use alpharev 1.8 i followed the instructions from here and all worked first time

[Q] Attemp Permroot on SoFF G2

Hy Guys,
sure it is a stupid question i think but i don't know how to do it (again) perhaps it is too long time ago.
i Wiped my G2 and install a Shipped Rom of HTC (RUU_Vision_Gingerbread_S_HTC_WWE_2.42.405.2_Radio_12.56.60.25_26.10.04.03_M_release_199043_signed.exe to be exactly)
and now i don't know how to get Permroot.
The Device is SOFF.
Please give me a hint
Greets nissl
Go here
Download psneuter and gfree_root_psn.
Follow the guide but leave out all the gfree commands, and md5 commands.
-Nipqer
It will not work for me =(
Code:
C:\Programme\HTC\HTC Sync 3.0>adb shell /data/local/tmp/psneuter
Failed to set prot mask (Inappropriate ioctl for device)
Any idea ?
Is it fake s off? Got this problem before this & i just reflash the stock rom using fast boot. After that try to gain the root again. Make sure u already downgrade the version. Version must be below 1.34. Working fine on my DZ.

I WILL hope NO, the HBOOT Shows this:
Code:
VISION PVT SHIP S-OFF
HBOOT-0.85.00.13
MICROP-0425
RADIO-26.10.04.03_M
eMMC-boot
Apr 11 2011,23:36:27
hope that helps -.- i will NEVER wipe again =(
BTW: this guide will not work too... damnit
Check your software version. Is it 2.42? For that case u need to downgrade to gain temp root. After that u can gain permroot. Try to follow this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/wiki/index.php?title=HTC_Vision. Correct me if im wrong.

my version is 2.42.405.2
i try your tip, thanks.
Nothing will work for me
Damn
Oh my bad, didn't realise you were on Gingerbread.
Use this guide http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1178912
But just follow the 'Gaining Temp Root' and 'Temp-Rooting to Backup' methods. That should give you perm-root.

Do you already downgrade the version? Do u encounter any error?

Try the easy rooting toolkit. Look at the xda bookmarks in my sig for a link. Not a promise, but worth a try.
I does all that writed on instructions and my device reboots, thats all? How can I check does my device rooted, I know that maybe very stupid, but I just started
Did it take about 5-10 minutes? If it did then it probably worked, but if it didn't then it probably didn't.
To be sure, install this on your phone...
https://market.android.com/details?id=jackpal.androidterm
Then run it and type su and press enter. It should tell you that the terminal emulator app is asking for superuser access. That means that you're rooted. If it doesn't ask then you're not.
Sorrow "permission denied"... What can I do more?
Have you tried looking in the Desire HD forum?

Why do people always go for the hardes possible option??
Use the HTC Unlock Bootloader again and lock the bootloader.
Reboot into hboot. The phone should read SHIP S-ON or ENG S-ON.
Download AAHK (advanced ace hack kit) from here
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1259821
Read the instructions and EFFIN MANUAL carefully, many times if necessary.
Let AAHK do it's thing.
After that, your phone is rooted and in hboot should read SHIP S-OFF or ENG S-OFF. The stock ROM will still be present. AAHK automatically generates a Gold Card and installs recovery. Through recovery flash any ROM you like from the Dev section.

I Messed Up my HTC Desire Z with S-off

Help, I think I messed up my phone (HTC Desire Z). I tried 2 root my phone. But after I s-off my phone I tried to reboot it and... It woudn't work :c. Can anyone help me? I searched for it but I Didn't find anything what can bring my phone back up. Please Help me someone.
well after the downgrade process you would be @ froyo, I'm sure a diffrent os then you were using, this would have changed you radio/spl and rom at the same time so there would be a functional os. after obtaining s-off and a eng hboot then you in a sence wiped your phone of an os, therefore it will not boot.
one of the things in the guide you followed (assuming you followed a proper guide and did things correctly) was to install a custom recovery. boot into recovery and flash rom of choice... now your phone works

Thank you so mush for your replay. But I don't know what you really mean. I did follow a guide @the unlocker. And I did every step correctly. But can you maybe give me a guide what I need to do? I'm just a android noob :c. What to I need 2 do exactly?
not sure what the unlockr uses for root, if you don't have an eng hboot then you may not have fastboot access. just boot into bootloader and check
first some lines should say either eng soff or ship soff, if it is ship soff I suggest following a different guide to root as you will have many headaches without an engienering spl
also the search function works quite well in both xda and google, just look for terms like adb for dummies, or fastboot commands. if you are having issues just report back with your findings

then your rooting method did not get you a custom recovery, you will be best of going to irc freenode #g2root, here you will get real time help. being you have an eng spl there is a good chance things can be fixed. just make sure you jump the gun and try to flash a pc10img.zip from hboot, if you flash the wrong one you will be stuck for good, so be double careful how you proceed from here
just google search irc freenode, and sign into #g2root and create a temp name, if no one is there to help right away just stick around a bit and I'm sure some one will show... be patient
