Then you've to Downgrade on .350 or .434, root with on of the existing Metohds and then Update OTA to .253.
Eventually you have to use OTA Rootkeeper, but some of the Guys reported they don't have to.

Could you provide link where complete instructions are given many thanks.

I rooted mine by flashing DoomKernel (via Flashtools) and then this zip (via DoomKernel recovery) : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=38196361&postcount=1
By the way, you need to have unlocked bootloader to do this.

[Q] Anyway to root 4.0.A[...] with locked BL?

I saw a few posts with solutions how to root newest FW (autoroot, root using recovery) but I don't have unlocked BL and I can't unlock it because my phone doesn't fastboot.
So is there a tricky way (I know how to use ADB so I won't have a problem with it if there's a solution using it) how to root newest fw for those with locked BL?
Please, don't offtop if you don't have nothing smart to say.

Yeah but what if we don't want to unlock the bootloader...flashing won't work cuz the update isn't OTA. What is this Recovery mode everyone is talking about?
I don't think you can flash a firmware through recovery AKA clockwork mod
To use recovery aka clock work mod you need to use fastboot to boot recovery play IMG, and flash a custom ROM like Dalvik2Cache

Only way to get root with locked bootloader is by ota if available.
With unlocked bootlaoder you can do by several ways, for example flash pre-rooted DoomLord's kernel.
Thanks for every reply. I don't need root for now, I just wanted to ask if it's possible
BTW newest FW is awesome

Yes you can simple re-flash to 2.3.2 root with gingerbreak and do an OTA update and you'll keep your root running 2.3.3 gingerbread rooted 4.0.A.2.368 R00i with locked bootloader...
You can use the new zergrush exploit, I heard that it works on 2.3.3

It aint a big deal...nothing would happen! More or less you won't be able to update! Relocking the boot loader would do the thing! But if you removed some bloatware then you might consider flashing the same firmware you are using again, wiping everything and then rooting it again! And then doing the OTA update!
Making an nandroid backup before reflashing the firmware is required so that you can restore your apps and settings! Many people ran into the problem where ota update wont work even with locked boot loader and they pin pointed removing some system apps or bloatware for it! Well in that case i already suggested you!
If i helped you, hit the thanks button!

[Q] Help rooting android 2.3.3 Xperia Play r800at

Hello, I am new to these forums but have looked through (to the best of my ability) and have not found the solution to my problem. That problem is that I want to root my AT&T Sony Ericsson Xperia Play r800at (android v. 2.3.3).
I had it previously rooted using the Zergrush method (was still on 2.3.3) and it worked just fine, then about a month ago (perhaps half a month) my phone automatically updated itself via the software update function. Now I cannot get root back using the Zergrush method. I also tried the SuperOneclick method to which it hangs on step #7 and I am at a loss.
What information do you need about my phone to help in figuring out any possible solution?
Thank you for your assistance and I look forward to any replies.
Have you tried with DooMLoRD's Easy Rooting Toolkit?
PD: If the phone updated after November 2011 it seems you can't use zergRush, try with Flashtool

Indeed I have, that was the Zergrush method I mentioned previously. Thanks for asking.
I'm new with this but I think that your only solution is unlocking the bootloader and flashing a custom kernel & rom

If I were to use Flashtool, what kernel would I need and do I absolutely need to unlock the bootloader in order to flash said kernel? Also, is there way to relock the bootloader (with original files intact) just in case I need to return the phone to AT&T repairs/maintenance or anything?
Ok, I've searched a bit more, seems thath you DON'T need to unlock your bootloader, just need to flash a firmware build that can be exploited by zergRush method.
I've searched and I found this (I haven't tried it)
1. Download flashtools
2. Download the .270 build Xperia_Play_3.0.1.B.0.270_ATT.rar
3. Flash the older build
4. Use flashtools to root
And you should get root acces

When you finish (sucessfuly I hope), if you want to unroot just update the phone with PC Companion

Yep that will work. Once rooted you can update to the latest AT&T build which is .285 but you must do it OTA. If you update through your computer it will remove the root.

He was talking about the carrier branded rom from AT&T which is his cellular provider. OTA means over the air. Basically doing the whole update process through the phone.

Thank you =)
Dude, it totally worked!! Not a single hiccup anywhere whatsoever!!! Thank you so much!!! :highfive:
Since you were talking about OTA updating and such: If I were to root and then update to the latest build OTA is it still possible to unroot using the flashtool or whatever was used to gain root? The reason I ask this is should AT&T ever need to look at my phone...
I think that the answer is yes, just update the phone with pc companion, also you can flash again .270 firmware and the phone should get unrooted

Awesome, and is there anything else I should be aware of? After all I am flashing things *wink wink*
As far i know, if you want to try any room, make sure that is compatible for locked bootloaders (you phone have a locked bootloader) and for you mobile phone type , follow the instructions carefuly and if you don't understand something, ask Oh, and don't try to flash a custom kernel (like DoomKernel) with a locked bootloader beacause you will brick your phone.
That's all I can tell you
if you downgrade will you lose your files?
thanks Mercado for the mirror sight for SOC 2.3.3
Hi Mercado: Thanks for posting the updated SOC Version sight. I tried using SOC 2.1.1 on my FREELANDER SXZ-PDX0-03 tablet witout success.
I tried SOC 2.3.3 YEA :good: YEA :good:YEA :good: SUCCESS.

[Q] Updated to 6.1.A.0.2.55 Can't get to root

I have just updated my Sony Xperia S from 6.1.A.0.2.45 to 6.1.A.0.2.55 via PC companion, after the update I wanted to root my phone again too allow some apps to have root access. As I went to check to see if my phone was rooted I noticed that it wasn't for my apps weren't allowed super user. I then attemted to root via Bin4ry like I did previously in version .45. It didn't work.
I'm wondering if anyone else has had this issue and if it has been resolved without having to unlock the bootloader / install a custom kernel, I don't want to do either of those, I just want root. Has anyone been able to root on .55 on Stock sony ICS firmware .55?

Simple, downgrade to .40 , root it, install CWM, download prerooted .55 system, flash via CWM , connect to flashtool, flash stock .55 ftf only kernel and baseband ...

the problem with flashing pre rooted system, is the change in region, ive unlocked then flash recovery nozomi then flash supersu, flash stock kernel.sin, flash cwm, then relocked and deodexed my firmware, and now im reinstalling all mods on my previous rom..hahahaha..cause dont want to change region .
So you think its better unlock BL ?

TrackID works after unlocking and relocking bootloader? I thougt it stops working because of loosing DRM-KEYS while unlocking a bootloader.

Download music info works again if you relock you BL, but TrackID (I think) and FB music likes via Walkman will not work anymore, so it's your decision if you want to lose that functions.

if you have backed up your ta partition before, then proceed with the following steps
unlock bootloader
flash any xperia zl kernel which has custom recovery like CWM in it. for example, this one ==> http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2191264 (though it's meant for older firmware, the recovery works but the phone wont boot to system)
enter into recovery and flash the supersu zip
then switch off the phone in custom recovery itself. (because the phone wont boot to system)
then flash back stock kernel and you have root :good:

u can get root access now but u have to unlock your bootloader. and you can't relock it unless you have the TA partition backup.
to get it, you have to flash back old firmware to gain root. backup TA partition so that you can relock bootloader. and in the future you dont' have to downgrade again to root

yeah. just flash an older rootable firmware(10.3.A.0.423) using flashtool. root it using doomlord's rooting kit. take a backup of TA partition using devshaft's backup-ta kit. this back up of TA is just to relock your bootloader whenever you unlock it because unlocking BL voids warranty. but the backup of TA partition must be taken in locked BL condition. flash nut's dual recovery. now follow the steps in the link posted above and upgrade to 4.4.2. this method doesn't need your BL to be unlocked.
there is another easy method which requires unlocking BL. but you can relock it as if you never unlocked. i prefer this method. the link is posted below.
