Hello everyone,
I have rooted my Desire a long time ago, now I want to try out a few custom ROMs. However, I think I made a few mistakes because Data2SD doesn't work for me.
Can i just start off new ? For example just running UnrevokedĀ³ again ?
If yes : Why doesn't UnrevokedĀ³ work ? It just says "Error: failed to get root. Is your firmware too new?". Currently I have installed Android 2.3.3 SuperNova ROM. My H-BOOT version is "HBOOT-0.75.0000". I think my Display is SLCD.
Thanks in advance !
Cheers Limette =)
if you are already rooted, this is what unrevoked should show.
anyway, your root was succesful, and it has got nothing to do with Data2SD.
if for some reason you think it might not work, make sure you have EXT partition AFTER fat32 one. and make sure it works ok, Gparted for example.
other than that you should provide more info, like what you did with your sdcard (how did you partition it, what layout etc.) and why do you think it is not working.
Thanks for your reply.
Actually I did partition the SD card how the tutorial told me to.
1st partition = ~14GB FAT32
2nd partition = 1GB EXT4
Then I installed the custom ROM and booted once. Then i went into Recovery mode and installed Data2SD installer. Everytihng should be ok so far, but the Phone wont boot after that, even tho the blue LED flashes. So I thought starting off new would be a good idea ^^.
So Umm, now I'm not quite sure what to do :O
Thanks in advance.
Cheers Limette.
well, a good thing to try now is installing some other ROM (possibly one with DATA2XXX already included) and checking if this works
also, what rom are you trying to flash
and have you used any aligment.zip flashable that were supposed to do some cool stuff with your ext ?
I only tried this ROM so far : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1045824
Here is what I did :
1. Partition my SD card ( 14GB FAT32 primary, 1GB EXT4 primary)
2. Recovery mode -> install zip from SD card -> new radio version
3. Reboot
4. Recovery mode -> install zip from SD card -> SuperNova ROM
5. Reboot
6. Recovery mode -> install zip from SD card -> Data2SD installer
7. Reboot (system is stuck here)
If I remove the SD card the SD card the system will boot and if I dont even install Data2SD system will also boot. It just wont boot if Install Data2SD. I did nothing more.
However, I just tried to install InsertCoin CM7 but that won't even start at all. Thats pretty much the reason why I'm trying to redo all of my first steps. Or do you think my problem is somewhere else?
please let me know if you need more information and thanks for your help so far
Cheers Limette
insertcoin CM7 version would require you to be s-off and running custom hboot (partition layout in phone) so that is why it is not booting up.
try insertcoin A2SD+ STOCK HBOOT, if it works, then your EXT is fine, if not then i suggest you double check it.

Hboot 0.75 means you are still s-on so InsertCoin cm7 will never work for you.
I suggest you to soff (read some tutorial first) and flash cm7 hboot.
Then u will be able to flash IC cm7. With that version u will not need those weird data2something scripts
Thanks for the replies !
I just tried the InsertCoin A2SD v20 ROM its booting but its not working correctly. I get crash messages like every 3 seconds
"The process android.process.acore has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again"
I might try to S-OFF my phone after i read the tutorial. But until then, do you guys know what I did wrong ?
Cheers Limette
Few people with hboot below 0.93 experienced some problems with installing gb roms.
1. What is your recovery? AmonRa or CWM and what version?
2. Would you consider using Froyo rom? They are extremely optimized and stable, while gb still have some glitches.
3. You can of course s-off, but i'd check/repartition sd card first. Stick with ext3 partition for now, a bit more support for it if you get mad with flashing different roms

1. CWM v2.5.0.1
2. I used a Froyo ROM for like 9 months now ^^ So I want to try Gingerbread out ^^
3. I'll try to repartition my SD card with Ext3 , if that won't help I'll try to S-OFF my Phone.
I'll let you know if it worked.
Cheers Limette.
I managed to Fix the Error message "The process android.process.acore has stopped unexpectedly. Please try again". I accidentally forgot to wipe all data before flashing :$
Thanks for all the help =)
you wrote you have clockworkmod recovery 2.5.0.1 ? you sure it is not 2.5.0.7 ?
anyways, both of them are really old, and this can cause bootloops when new updater script is used in a flashable.zip file
since you are S-ON, you cant premanently flash new recovery, but you can fake-flash which is putting clockworkmod_3.0.2.8.zip file on sdcard, and then flashing it while in 2.5.0.7(or .1) and this will boot up the newest version (but you have to do this everytime you enter recovery)
then you can try flashing both ROM you chose and the DATA2SD installer with 3.0.2.8, this might fix it

Hey,
I folowed this tutorial:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=788044
but it gives an error when rooting:
Error: failed to get root. Is your firmware too new?
What do i have to do to fix this?
Jaapie
Did you upgraded to gingerbread before rooting? If yes, you have to use this tool:
http://revolutionary.io
Read documentary side before doing anything.
I've got Android version 2.2.
I'm reading your documentary now
I'm going to use the tool now,
my phones has:
HTC Desire
bravo-0.93.0001
Android 2.2
Lets hope!
Okay,
The cmd disapeared and my phone is still in the boot menu.
What do i do now?
Can i root my phone now?
Thanks for the help!
------------------------------
Okay, i tried to root, it didn't give any error, it just ends with: done..
But when it restart my phone is just exactly the same as before, how do i know it rooted succesfully?
If you have the superuser app, you're rooted
Revolutionary does give you root access. After using this tool, you have to flash the zip from documentary page in recovery.
SwiftKeyed from CM7 using Transparent XDA App
Thanks for all the help!
It worked, i installed a rom and it works great.
I have only 1 more problem, the main reason i rooted my phone was because i had too low internal storage on my phone, i have like 34 mb to instal apps!
Some apps can be put on your sd-card, but after installing 2 apps i couldn't download a 3th! So i still can't do anything with my new rom xD.
So my question is if you know how i can use my SD card of 3 gig to save all my apps and maybe even my ROM!
I hope you guy's can help me!

Create an EXT partition on your sdcard. Then install an A2SD+ or Data2EXT rom.

Good to know here is one should only use data2sd rom with an sd card which has minimum class 6. It may work with a very good class 4, but with class one is on the safe sid.

Well i tried doing that with the ROM manager, but it gives an error in the recovery:
ClockworkMod Recovery v5.0.2.0
Waiting for SD Card to mount (20s)
SD Card mounted...
Verifying SD Card marker...
SD Card marker not found...
Error verifying extendedcommand.
Error processing ROM Manager script. Please verify you have ROM Manager v4.4.0.0 or higher installed.
/tmp/recovery.log was copied to /sdcard/clockworkmod/recovery.log. Please open ROM Manager to report the issue
So i go to the ROM Manager info to see what version it is and its: 4.3.2.3
And then i go to the app store to download ROM Manager so it gets the new version and now got 4.5!
I tried again to partitioning the SD card and now i believe it worked!
I now have 102 MB to put apps on istead of 32 Mb!
Great! Thanks guy's, now i can finally use my phone!

GREEDY?..u want more space?..MOVE UR DALVIK CACHE TO sd-ext that u created, works great for me,i have 262mb of apps + abt 700mb free space for apps 2
Hi, I have a rooted myTouch 3G Slide running a custom mod (similar to stock with some tweaks) with S-ON
I wanted to be able to install my apps on the SD card and increase my internal memory with a 2nd partition on my SD card
I know everything on how to make the partition and the swap partition, how to format the partitions, how big to make them etc. I just want to ask:
DO I NEED TO HAVE S-OFF TO BE ABLE TO DO IT?
i recently tired very hard to do it using the Rom Manager and Link2SD as well as some other techniques such as making the partitions myself and using A2SD script with the A2SDGUI application. With just using Link2SD, i got an error that saied it cannot allocate the memory when I tried to create the boot script and when I used the A2SD script, it said that my apps were being sent to the sd card but when i rebooted, all of the apps i linked to the SD were gone and i was not able to get them back.
I've tried looking around the forums and on google but i have not been able to find a definitive answer to my question. Does my device need S-OFF or will I be able to do this with S-ON?
Thank you in advance.
bumpity?
I believe you do
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=893706
actually, you don't need S-OFF to move your apps to the ext partition on your sd card. I haven't used any of the apps on market/play store myself, i've always just run the DTApp2SD script. Let me know if you need the zip for that.
@morphuex: the link you provided is for custom MTD, it will allow you to resize your phone's inner storage to fit your need, which does require S-OFF.
Oh, thought that what he was asking, must of read it wrong. :silly:
I've tried to apply dtapps2sd-2.7.5.3-beta04 to my device running CM9 beta 3 (Jun 21 2012) version and got unbootable device. It started and got stuck at the white T-mobile screen before CM9 animation.
Maybe this was caused by having s2e installed on the device which was used to move data to sd-ext partition. So just be careful and make a prior backup just in case.
By the way, does anybody know why I get an error message like 'unable to mount /sd-ext partition. unsupported by your device' while i'm trying to make a nandriod backup using CWM recovery?

yes, it means you don't have an sd-ext. if you do it will mount it. it will say the same error on anything that does a backup.
you do not need s-off to move apps to a created sd-ext. when my mt3gs was my daily phone i used simple2ext to manage my sd-ext. worked fine. i was using cm7.2.

This is not quite right. I had /sd-ext partition already created when I tried to make a backup. I did move there data & some apps using s2e app.
The same situation I experience right now. The ext partition does exist, but CWM doesn't mount it in backup process - "can't mount /dev/block/mmcblksomething (file already exists)" error.
Initially I partitioned my sd card using CWM. I created just ext partition only, no swap.
I use an unofficial CM9 beta4 build, rom manager version 5.0.0.8, recovery version 2.5.0.7. Should I try to flash more recent experimental version 2.5.1.4?

yeah, i duplicated that error just now. i fired up my old mt3gs and flashed the cm9 beta4. it does give that error and won't mount my sd-ext.
i honestly haven't read enough about the cm9 for this phone to give an informed answer, sorry. i know that if i flash my backup cm7.2 everything is fine. the only difference on my phone was the rom change. I did all this on rom manager 5.0.0.8, cwm recovery 2.5.0.7.
Thank you everyone for your contributions. i will try the DT app2sd script right now and will keep you guys informed on whether or nor i was able to do it. thank you!
I got a problem. i am unable to partition my SD because the version of CWM for my phone cannot do it..(it doesnt have the option to do it)
i tried doing it from rom manager but i get an error when i try to do it, saying the signature couldnt be verified.
My phone is rooted and running on cyanogenMod 7.2. The storage problem I am facing is immense. Have very few apps installed but still always keep getting that Low space warning. Any suggestions?

Create an ext partition on your sd card using this guide: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=37383522#post37383522
Then look for an a2sd script and flash it. Then all apps you install will be automatically installed to the partition on your sd card.
Could you kindly elaborate the second step? A2sd script and flash?

Check out the "using the ext partition" section in the guide.
You should also s-off and change hboot to cm7r2 to use space more efficiently.
I believe you're still on stock hboot, so you have a lot of free space on system partition which is wasted. Change hboot will also increase upper available /data (internal memory) size.
Check everything's working correctly afterwards by installing another app like 'diskusage' to browse all your partitions.
Hi everyone,
I'm kind of new in the whole moding life and I have some few questions for you.
I just installed the DroidWFS Rom (based on Droid Ace) from this topic : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2227402.
Just before this, I was on CyanogenMod 9 but the Data bug made me switch.
So the installation was done with success.
But I was wondering:
- it says in the topic of the rom that the latest play store is installed but I cannot find it.
- it says "No 2ext /...2SD scripts by default", how do i make it work? I was using link2sd with cyanogenmod 9
Thank's a lot for your help (and sorry if i'm not in the correct category)
Hi,
what's that data bug? heard about that a lot, but never really encountered it.
anyways, just google "gapps cm7", you'll find gapps package, just put it in your SD card, enter recovery and choose "install zip from sdcard".
for link2sd, I use int2ext cronmod, you can find it somewhere in the forums. but firstly you need to partition your SD card, if you haven't done it yet. enter recovery>advanced>partition sd card. 1024mb for the first option and 0mb swap size. go to mounts/storage, mount all possible partitions (don't remember which exactly, so to be sure mount them all) and finally flash int2ext zip file like I said to flash gapps zip.
Good luck!
