Hi, I have a note 8 and love it. I carry it around in my leg pocket in my work pants and I think the constant pressure on the power button (the one on the left hand side of the device is constantly waking it and draining battery. Is there any way to disable waking the device when this button is pressed? Thank you all in advance with any help you can provide.
I hate the power button on both my note 8 and note 2. Not an optimum location at all. My only course of action was to get a thin case for it that makes the power button recessed a little. It helps immensely.
I got a moko book cover style case off amazon for like $8. Works fantastically.

I haven't found anything for the power button, but here is how to disable the home button from turning on the device.
I found this posted in another thread and just tested and confirmed it works on my Note 8. I run Civ's ROM and Kernel, FYI.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2325740
This is not my fix, all credit to josiniscal00
text:
1. Open root explorer
2. Select mount RW on this top of the screen.
3. Go to the folder system.
4. Go to the folder user .
5. Go to folder key layouts.
6. Go to folder gpio-keys.kl
7. Hold down on GPIO file and select view text
8. Delete home and change wake to wake_dropped
9. Restart phone!
FYI, when I did this to my Note 2, the first time the home button still turned it on. It did not any times after.
No way other than to get a cover

If you're having trouble with your phone waking due to the home button, this is the mod for you.
I work in a restaurant and i keep finding that my phone gets quite warm in my pocket because
the screen comes on (it also likes taking screen shots, and sometimes even opens the camera).
Hope this is helpful for you guys.

The mod worked great, but I miss using the home button to unlock. My Otterbox Defender case prevents the pocket push so I un did it lol. Thx for the find!

I don't found it,,
I am using Jelly Bean rom right now and I missed the home button just turns on screen. I think in JB whenever I Push home button it directly goes to home. I mean if you gave a break when reading something when You push home button the app you working on is not active anymore but it goes to home instead. Do you guys have a fix for that?

I'd like to have that too. I had it on my previous phone and liked it.
Edit: Interesting, this is the contents of my whole file, and yet only the home and power buttons do wake up the phone.

key 114 VOLUME_DOWN WAKE

Hi, on my galaxy note 2, I don't have the seckeys.kl file. What's up with that?
Its a galaxy note 2, this mod is for the s3
This works great! Thank you for finding this mod.
I'm using on-screen navbar buttons. The home button is the ugly thing Samsung has to put it there.

WAKE: When this key is pressed while the device is asleep, the device will wake up and the key event gets sent to the app.
WAKE_DROPPED: When this key is pressed while the device is asleep, the device will wake up and the key event does not get sent to the app.
Interesting. ..can you give more detail or where to change?

When I first did this I used ES File Explorer to make the edits. It didn't work so I went back to change it back and even though I went back to the default settings the Home button does not turn on the device. So, I downloaded Root Explorer thinking that would help. The strange thing is when I go into the sec_keys.kl file to edit, it is completely blank. So, I added each line manually and then hit save and exit. But, when I go back into it, it is blank again. I assume that all of this has something to do with the home button not turning on the phone. So, what am I doing wrong and how do I fix it?

same problem, it fails to turn on the phone.
Once I do this mod it works but now everytime I push the home button, the phone vibrates and makes the touch screen sounds. Anyone know a solution so this one home button does not vibrate or make a sound when pressed besides turning off vibrations and sounds for the whole phone?

I love this phone! But one thing is really annoying.
I keep this phone in my jeans pocket, but often while walking I hear the reboot sound. The power button is pressed in my pocket. And if this happens long enough, the phone will reboot, even when the phone was locked...
Is there a way to disable this behaviour?
If you install Widget Locker Lockscreen I think you can disable Power button at lockscreen but I don't use this app anymore for several months.
That's a paid app. Seems excessive just to disable this annoying behaviour
seems weird to me. I never had a reboot when phone was in my pocket. Prior to note 2 I had a S2 with same power button construction and behavior, and never expriened this.
Do you use a silicon protecting case? Those cases put a small but excessive pressure on side buttons thus a little push will trigger buttons.

No, I'm using it bare.
Hold your phone, locked with the screen off, and keep holding the power button. You'll see that it'll start rebooting.
I'm not wearing skinny jeans or anything like that, the phone has plenty of room in my pocket... But apparently it's enough to press the button e.g. while driving with my seat belt on.
The annoying thing is that I sometimes don't hear it rebooting and then I'm unreachable for hours until I look at my phone and input the sim code again. Now that I think of it, I think I'll disable sim code input, that will at least connect me again after a reboot.
The problem apparently already existed with the Note 1:
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1369805
On further googling, this actually is the soft reset feature!!
There goes my hope of disabling it...
EDIT: Another happy user: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1401852
I guess it would be possible to disable soft reset, but you'd need to build a kernel with the feature.

Try this app: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.nezdroid.lockscreenprotector
Hi all i made an app to avoid this, blocking power menu on lockscreen no need of root working on 2.2+ and you can set up a custom menu (power and reboot need root) so you should take a look and if you like please leave a 5 stars, or let me know any issues
this is only for lockscreen , when you are outside lockscreen you have the normal power menu
here its the link to play store

EDIT
Or with a rooted phone:
Once the phone is rooted, you install an app called Root Explorer which you get from the Google Play Store.
With this app, do the following please
Go to system > usr > keylayout
Find seckey.kl
Made backup from seckey.kl file.(copy paste in same place then rename or paste to other folder)
Change seckey.kl permission to become 0777, so we can edit the file.
Using text editor open secky.kl
find
KEY 116 POWER WAKE
edit to become
KEY 116 POWER
Save the change
Change seckey.kl permission back to 0655
Reboot the device

If my phone was rebooting in my pocket I would guess a ROM issue before imaging I'd pressed the power button too long.
Perhaps it's time to charity shop those skinny jeans.
Just in case somebody out there running a custom ROM has got the same problem and looks for an easy workaround:
There is a Xposed Module that allows you to modify the power button menu to your preferences and also to completely disable it when the phone is locked.
I have not tested it yet and it is unfortunately discontinued by the developer, but it looks pretty solid to me.
It was intended to run on Sony Xperia devices, but also works on many other devices with AOSP based ROMs.
ATTENTION: It does NOT WORK for TOUCHWIZ ROMs although you can install it to them via Xposed Installer!
Head over to the Advanced Power Menu XDA-Thread.
Cheers!
I have replaced the screen on my Optimus G (E975k, Telstra) and the menu button works whilst the back is off, but as soon as I put the back on, the menu button doesn't work... super annoying!
I'm not sure if my clumsy attempts to replace the screen have damaged the synaptics ribbon and the cover going on puts pressure in the right spot to stop the ribbon cable making the connection for that button or what, but I'm looking for help getting around this.
Is there a way to make longpress on back arrow to open the menu, if so then 90% of my problems are solved, I can force the onscreen nav buttons to show up and that is great but it seems like a waste of space if I can work around it with a back button long press... I tried a few key remapping apps but they do not seem to be able to do what I want to do... if there is a custom rom that would support this then I would just flash that I guess.
Anyway, help from anyone would be appreciated
Thanks
EDIT: Okay so I edited /system/usr/keylayout/keypad_8064.kl
changed
Key 115 VOLUME UP
to
Key 115 MENU VIRTUAL
This allows me to use the volume up button as the menu button, so I'm out of trouble, but I would still like to map back button long press to the duty rather than lose my volume up button.
Hey man, if ur on stock i think u can use xposed modules for long press behaviors and custom button actions.. Usr gravity box etc.. If u like custom rom, many offer custom button actions

Hi Guys,
I grabbed a S4 Mini recently and need to find a way to stop it powering off when it is in a protective shell.
I have a Pelican i1015 for the phone that it fits into, however the power button on the side gets depressed when the case is closed.
God knows why they put it there.
Is there any way to stop it from powering off on long press if the screen is turned off?
Cheers
You should be able to remap the button default action with the Xposed Additions module installed.
Thanks! will that stop it for powering off when long pressed though?
No, it won't (if you want). You can set or disable actions for click, double click and long press of hardware buttons, separately for screen on/off states.
I don't know if there is that have changed for the Samsung Galaxy Note 20 Ultra but I am not able to capture the screen of my mobile phone. If I hold the power button it goes to the power off screen (as I have configure the side keays). But if I hold power + volume down buttons, it goes the same way (power off screen). The volume down button works properly using it alone. Is there any change on the Note 20 Ultra to capture screen by buttons? Am I missing something?
Thanks in advance for any help!
Happy New Year!
Happy New Year all
I've just used volume - with power and screen captured with no issues on latest ui3 official Three UK
Eddie
Thanks for your help! I found my mistake in other forum. I just post it, just in case it happend to anyone else. I tried to hold both buttons, power + volume down. But I shouldn't hold them, just push then quickly. That didn't happen that way in my old S10
Happy New Year!
There is another option that my better half like to use to take screenshots. You can use your palm and swipe from the left edge to the right edge.
Its the option in Settings -> Advance Features - > Motion and gestures -> Palm swipe to capture
Thank you. I just registered for saying this.
I was trying to get a screenshot with my new Samsung Galaxy M23 for quite some time, with no avail.
Just clicking and letting go, not continuing to press solved it.
