I don't get it, what differentiates this from the already existing rom's and why would one change when some of your bugs are fixed in many of the other rom's?

I appreciate what you're doing and well done an all but all i'm saying is that the RoM's on offer should be doing all they can to show what they have done differently to other builds.
Personally I can see little difference between your release and Villain or aHero aside from the bugs which they fixed a while ago. All I'm saying is that to get followers/users you need to offer something new! What is your rom offering that Villain isn't? Why would I want to go through all the hassle of backup & wipe?
Not cool guys.
If I have learned ONE thing from my experience with many, MANY different ROMs over the last few months, it's that each one has it's own uniqueness about it, despite what it may say on the "features" list.
There is ALWAYS room for new ROMs on the scene, and just because it may not be YOUR favourite, doesn't mean someone else won't prefer x over y.
No one is forcing you to backup & wipe. If you're happy with your current ROM, then don't bother. But DON'T come here and question the developer on the necessity of his work!
I'll certainly be trying this ROM out, as I'm yet to find a vanilla 2.1 ROM that I am 100% happy with for day-to-day use. Perhaps this isn't the one, but I'll certainly give it a shot.
Thanks robin04. I hope the negative attitude in this thread doesn't dissuade you from further development.
can't download it plz upload on mediafire
I wasnt beeing negative as i said in 1st post its always nice to see new ROM developers.
All i did was answer the dude question not my fault that he edited it while i was typing.
I do hope he continues to develop his ROM

awesome rom thanx for sharing, few issues could we implement the camera fix and vending.apk for the market or could someone point me in the direction of these plz ? also is there any other youtube.apk that we could push to this build because the videos dont play on this rom ?
If we could get these issues fixed this would be the best AOSP rom i have used simply because most live wallpapers actually work !
"green" "didgital rain" "water" "Duck hunt" and a bunch of others from the market actually stay on and dont dissapear with the lock / unlock cycle

I have no idea what negative attitude you're referring to but i think you've got the wrong end of the stick. I'm trying to help him out! I'm not here advertising my rom or any favorite, just asking what differentiates his.
I just think the ROM should probably be labeled correctly. It would be easy for a new user to install this rom when other roms would be better suited. Labelling this ROM a beta would probably be more accurate, until the major kinks are worked out.
The 3gp video record with the camera can play or not? (freeze after first frame)
Thanks
great rom Robin, imho the best AOSP 2.1 avaiable!! thx
Does this rom have root? If so,I can't get it... have flashed many roms but never had this problem. I have wiped data and dalvik. never used a2sd.
Any ideas?
never mind. got it working
How's the battery life?
tun.ko in aosp rom possible?
Description
I made my own ROMs for a while (too many bloated ROMs, or tweaked way too much), but never published them to others. After yesterday when it helped someone I decided that I'll go spend some time and put it up as it might be of use to some more people. But don't expect anything mind blowing. This is a ROM that is meant to be as close to stock as possible, while adding small additions that don't negate the original experience.
Features
Based on XXJVT [Android 2.3.5, Deodexed, Zipaligned, Rooted, Busybox] (thanks to Ramad)
Semaphore 1.8.0 kernel [Voodoo Color/Sound, OC/UV, BLN] (thanks to stratosk, supercurio, Neldar, and Chainfire)
VM heap size set to 32
Hard to kill launcher
AppWidgetPicker (thanks to boombuler)
Camera with low battery and power button hack (thanks to $omator)
Gallery3D without Samsung's low quality tweaks
Microbes and HTC Sense live wallpapers
Extended power menu, CRT-off (thanks to sphinx02)
Stock battery with percentages and green icons on connection to Google services (thanks to $omator and others)
Everything else is stock unless I forgot to mention it...
Download 'Stock_Extra_[XXJVT].zip' (no wipe)
Download 'Stock_Extra_[XXJVS].zip' (wipe)
Instructions
Apply from CWM. Preferable to wipe data/restore factory defaults and wipe cache, but you can try without the former and see what happens. As usual, make a backup beforehand just in case.
Extras
CM7 % Battery for XXJVT (thanks to thanks to $omator)
I didn't add any experimental things, or special tweaks, however I do have a few recommendations; Playing around with the Semaphore application may yield some improvements, converting your file systems to EXT4, and applying the Universal Adrenaline Shot may be of some benefit.
The benchmarks posted have been done under a combination of the previously mentioned tweaks. The numbers themselves don't mean much, but the overall experience is pretty smooth -- even without any tweaks applied as I was told.
Disclaimers
As usual, you are applying the update at your own risk.
ROM re-packaging is not such a difficult process. As such if you wish to donate please consider donating to XDA, or the people who have been credited for the tweaks (amongst the others that I may have missed).
If you ask for additions I may or may not include them in the future, depending on whether I would like to have them or not (remember the original purpose of this ROM in the opening paragraph).
Just gonna download. a nice simple rom
great work ..

I will rebase it once all the addons are made to be compatible with it. Also forgot to add in the features that it has Gallery3D without Samsung's low quality changes -- so it will be slower, but the pictures will look much better overall.
Per request I also had to rename the name of the ROM, however I'm afraid I won't be uploading the same zip file just with a different file name; next time.
And glad to know that it is to some people's liking
very nice rom . stable and good.
Hi, can i make a special request.
Can you do the same for Asia stock rom DXJV9. European rom does not contain Asian language pack unless you know how to port that into these rom.
Thanks

Great man. Well, Asian rom is up to Android 2.3.3. I don't understand why Samsung did not release update to 2.3.4, even European rom had breach the 2.3.5 version. It pretty disappointing man.
Nevertheless, thanks for trying.
I'm currently in the process of testing a JVT version, so hopefully in the next few days (or maybe even today) when it proves to be stable and without any glaring mistakes I'll have it uploaded. Until then, sit tight folks.
Awaiting.

I'm afraid the only Asian language included (that I recognise) is Korean, which by looking at your country's icon is not what you're looking for.
That said, I'm afraid I wouldn't be able to make a full version for one of those Asian 2.3.3 firmwares. The mods and tweaks that I rely on are specific to certain firmware versions, as such I wouldn't be able to mix them together.
And I'm afraid I don't have time for the "trial and error" approach due to my job, so yeah... there's nothing else I can really do, unless there is a way to force the Asian languages into non-Asian firmwares -- something that I'm personally not aware of.
So here is the XXJVT version; you may download it from here (link is also in the front post). This version will not wipe your data, so if you came from the previous version you should be able to just install it over and everything should work just fine.
Changelog... or what seems to have changed:
XXJVT base
Blue overscroll glow (this is a Samsung change to stop infringing on Apple's retarded patents)
Overall smoothness seems to be better (and apart from EXT4 I have applied no other tweaks this time)
Slight battery improvement (discharging fully and wiping battery stats from CWM helps after an upgrade)
From my side the rest is the same
Enjoy

This rom is superb well done mate!
I guess Stock extra still the best. Too many tweak and mod will make the phone unstable. On and off, i still have to reboot the phone even though the developer declare it is stable.
Good work mate.
me too likes such simple ROMs like the one from $omator in the themes and apps sections called:
[ODEX/DEODEXED][2.3.3/2.3.4/2.3.5 - LATEST -> XXJVT] stock+ by $omator
I've seen a lot of new member here. I hope this thread might help them decide what ROM are best for them and reduce the number of question. however, I won't mention any rom in this forum to keep this thread from my subjective point of view. you should see the development section by yourself to find your best suited rom for you.
OK. lets get straight to the topic. this is some things that you should consider when you choose a custom rom. I'll divide the guide into three main parts two make everything is easy to understand. the parts are performance, style, and additional consideration.
##PERFORMANCE##
Click to collapse
1. debloatware
debloatware is a process to remove considered useless apk from the system. every rom has different degree of debloatware. a hight degree debloatware means you'll have only use a little of ram space for system app. however we'll lost some of sync function like kies synchronization if we remove all bloatware from the system. make sure that you still have all the app you need from stock rom in your custom rom.
2. deodexed vs odexed
Most of custom rom available is deodexed rom while our stock rom is half deodexed rom. I'll try to explain it in most simple way. First of all, we should understand that mostly every app in android consist of three part, *apk files, *dex/odex files, and lib files.
ODEXED rom means that *dex file needed to run the app is extracted from the apk file and placed in same folder with the apk files (/system/app). the positive side, it is tend to more stable and consume less internal memory and a execute faster. it is also faster since the system doesn't have to build dalvik cache at boot process. the negative side, it makes the app uncostumizable (cannot apply custom themes) and need more space in system partition.
DEODEXED rom means that *dex file needed to run the app is extracted from the apk file and placed in /data/dalvik-cache. the positive side, the app can be themed (full customizable) and consume less system partition. we could put more app in /system/app in deodexed rom. the negative side, it consume a lot of internal memory. the system also might a little bit slower since the system need to build a lot of dalvik-cache when the phone start.
3. custom kernel
a custom kernel could give you a huge boost of performance. for the most basic one, you should choose a kernel with init.d support. we'll need it to run a lot of performance tweaks. if you're seeing a custom kernel, you should look into these point:
- custom governoor
custom governoor will give you a lot of option to set your device performance. you can set the performance as hight as possible or save your battery as long as possible by set the correct governoor.
- custom scheduler
its almost same with custom governoor. however it manage I/O on your device. it won't give you a huge boost on performance but you should consider it as your main consideration.
- droidwall support
- a2sd and swap support
- additional feature
- bug and rom compatibility
not all custom rom compatible with all custom kernel. make sure that your custom kernel is compatible with your rom.
4. performance tweak availabilty
for a basic consideration, make sure that your rom have a performance tweak. otherwise, you'll got only a themed rom with stock performance. if you're a performance person, make sure your rom is have these tweak.
- memory management optimization
- hsdpa optimization
- kernel and I/O optimization
- gps optimization
- internet speed optimization
these tweaks are could be found at build.prop, init.d, sysctl.conf, and gps.conf.
5. additional tweaks
there are also some additional tweak you should consider if you want to install a rom. the commonly used are:
- bravia engine
- sound enhancement
6. performance app
some ROMs offer performance tweak app like ROM manager inside it. you should consider these app if you're a performance person
##STYLE##
Click to collapse
1. theme
this is a very subjective topic. you should choose a rom with a topic suit with your style.
2. degree of customization
every rom has certain degree of customization. if you're a themed person, you should consider these point for your rom.
- EDT tweak for statbar customization
- ROM'S lab
- customizer app
- theme availability
3. ROM special app
some of ROM have special app for their rom. they're specially developed for only certain roms and comes with special names and various function. these app will give you a huge power for style and performance customization.
##ADDITIONAL CONSIDERATION##
Click to collapse
1. update availability
some ROMs are good but they're left undeveloped. you won't get an update for your rom. you should choose a rom with a continous update from the dev to ensure you get the best rom for you.
2. dev support
not all ROM maker are really a dev. some of them just a wannabe dev with a theme modified rom skill. you can't expect them to solve the bug in their rom. you should choose with a good reputation and high skill.
3. rom size
this is not a huge issue. if you have a slow internet connection, a smaller rom is better for you. smaller rom also means a big degree of bloatware. the system will be lighter than the other rom.
4. rom base
some of rom are using old firmware (--KL) while some other are using newer firmware(--LB or newer). you should aware of these stuff since not theme and mod available in our forum are compatible with all firmware. new firmware will give you more stability but in most case you can't have custom bootanimation.
5. multilanguage
this is not a huge issue but you should consider it as well. not all rom support japanese, chinese, arabic, spain and latin fonts.
DISCLAIMER: REMEMBER THAT YOU'LL NEVER GET ALL IN ONE PACKET ROM. ALL ROMS HAVE THEIR STRENGTH POINT. YOU CAN'T EXPECT ANY DEV TO MAKE "A PERFECT" ROM FOR EVERYONE. IF YOU DON'T SATISFY WITH YOUR ROM REMEMBER THAT YOU CAN ALWAYS CUSTOMIZE YOUR ROM BY YOURSELF.
Reserved for dunno
just in case
This thread really help me to create my own custom rom with world best future ......... many many thanks for the great thread .....
Sent from my GT-S6102 using Tapatalk 2
If i use to create odexed rom is it support all tweaks ..
And if i costmize only systemui /firmwork * (deodexed)
With odexed rom its support or not...
Sent from my GT-S6102 using Tapatalk 2
if you want a customizable theme you can make your systemUI.apk as a deodexed apk. if your apk have classes.dex inside it you'll need to delete systemUI.odex from your system.

stability - stock ROM
I already have all my tweaks needed for my rom. If anyone asked "what rom do you like?" I'll answered "just a stock rom but with a better graphic and sound driver". however, I'm afraid we've to build it from source to get it
More questions
Great explanations bro, specially for nobs like me
My questions are:
1- How can I know if the ROM totally support Arabic-Language?
I live in Saudi Arabia and My SGY comes with XXLC1 stock ROM.
2- Is there any other stocks than XXLC1 ROMs I can use and still support Arabic and Modem-settings in my region?
I notes that most if not all custom ROMs based on Different stocks than mine.
I know, it sounds like I answered my first question in the second one, but still I need more clarifications.
3- Now I'm using REMIX ROM with [email protected] Kernel, based-band S5360XXLC1. Still, I can't have full Arabic interfaces and
my browsers cant read Arabic too. I wounder why?
Sorry for the very nob questions and Thank you very much.
Hi,
I wanted to ask some question so please we should keep this thread as short and qualitative as possible, so
1) I want to have a custom ROM (CM in this case) but without transforming my device in to a Xperia S especially without loosing the CPU power, normally - with what I know- the kernel should detect the processor as a 1.7 ghz but I read that if you put the Xperia S ROM it won't so (will see it as 1.5 which is STRANGE to me), is there any CM for xperia sl (It sounds rhetorical to me as I searched and didn't find - looked up also freexperia) so basically what should I edit/do to get one?
2) I saw some projects on hardening the kernel (with grsec, yeah spender did a "nice" job, although Ac1db3atch3s crashed gradm ), so what should I do to put a hardened kernel in to the above ROM? I'm not particularly interested in "paranoid-secure" kernel , but more in to a flexible / light / USEFUL / robust one , so which one you recommend (with what patches) and how do I build everything and put it on CM ? [I'm on Arch Linux but I have also Windows if that it's a MUST]
3) Even after installing busybox , the system is still far from Linux as there are missing options like for example, lsof it's just lsof with no options, netstat is without "-e or -p" although it is as an option but doesn't show the processes or details, ls is lacking of -h and -c , and this question maybe returns to #2 as maybe there is a ROM out there with already packed "correct" binaries.
What should I do to get those?
4) What are the best applications you recommend (I saw guardianproject but not particularly interested in tor sub applications) to have full control on what's going on the OS?
Thanks.

Hi,
I wanted to ask some question so please we should keep this thread as short and qualitative as possible, so
1) I want to have a custom ROM (CM in this case) but without transforming my device in to a Xperia S especially without loosing the CPU power, normally - with what I know- the kernel should detect the processor as a 1.7 ghz but I read that if you put the Xperia S ROM it won't so (will see it as 1.5 which is STRANGE to me), is there any CM for xperia sl (It sounds rhetorical to me as I searched and didn't find - looked up also freexperia) so basically what should I edit/do to get one?

Hello @0fo,
I'd try to be as qualitative as possible (As you mentioned)
1.) A Custom Rom won't affect the CPU speed of 1.7GHz, It is the Kernels that can give you other CPU speeds.
So after installation you need to edit the kernal using third party tweaks. And considering the research you have done This wont be so hard to overclock.
2.) About Hardened Kernals, You can not do anything right now. Only Stable Kernels Available Are For Nexus Devices. . For Building Your Own Kernal And ROM Please refer to Guides Available for The Same.
3.) Unable to Understand Completely, A little more feedback on your problem would help.
4.) For Complete Control on the OS. You dont need applications but a working compiler and modding shell, Not much can be done from phone itself.
Install Android kitchen and Cagywin. You would have complete control.
If my time given to you was helpful please press thanks button!

Thank you for your reply,
1) When I mentioned ROM and not the kernel I was referring to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2245327 under "General" which says "Any ROM for S will Work for SL BUT you lose 1.7GH Speed" So what should I do, should I download the "nozomi" image and than tweak ? Even though I don't know were to tweak or how because I'm new to android and I rooted my phone just yesterday, but I have experience with Linux systems / also enterprise.
2) Yep
3) On Linux when I want to list files/dirs I run ls -aclh but -c and -h options are missing on the ls binary installed on my phone, also while using netstat and lsof some useful options are missing, it's like the system is build to not let you know which process is using X connection and you can't track which process has opened the socket , for example I see a socket communicating with a amazon cloud server constantly on port 4244 or similar but don't know what and why which makes me curious.
4) will try those out.
Hi all, These are basically ras_vanilla builds ( from rascarlo`s latest sources) with my own custom modifications.
History
Well I am a purist and seek for minimalism. I love stock android, but with certain modifications that i like for improvement in functionality. But the specific set of features i wanted in rom , i couldnt find it in a stock rom. So i decided to build one myself with everything i needed. I have been building my own custom vanilla builds for a while ( For my nexus 4 : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2335207 ) and thought i could share my build with the community that has given me so much. May be there are people who seek these aswell and it might help them out a bit.
Why Ras_vanilla base ?
Simple, it has all the magic carlo optimizations under the hood, i was certain i couldnt get the same performance using stock aosp sources. I actually thought i ll use RasSaber sources or SaberMod sources to build, but decided against it. To make these vanilla build, there were two options,
1. Easy way, make it look like vanilla by making settings, etc look vanilla, but there would still be a lot of customization commits and i dint like the idea of this.
2. Remove each and every custamization commit to make a true vanilla build. This is very very time consuming. so no.
And i thought it would be better the just build up from ground.
Features - as of now
1. Volume rocker wake - always on without user configuration ( so that it looks stock ).
2. Bionic/skia tweaks.
3. Clear all button in recents menu.
4. Advanced reboot options and screenshot in power menu.
FLASH
latest TWRP is higly recomended
- full wipe if coming from a different rom, else skip this step
- wipe cache
- wipe dalvik cache
- flash zip
- flash gapps
- (opt.) flash kernel since it comes with stock
- reboot
- log into google and let it sync
- fix_permissions (in terminal if your kernel supports the script, else in recovery)
- (opt.) reboot

June-24 - This is the initial build, please test it and tell me the results as i dont have a manta at hand, i am building these for my sister.

Gapps
Use carlo`s gapps this is a minimal package with what is needed, http://fitsnugly.euroskank.com/?rom=...y&device=gapps
Kernels
Any kernel should work just fine. I usually use just the stock kernel. But franco, SaberMod and Trinity kernels performed very well for me imo.
Thanks
AOSP - For android.
CM - Incredible amount work that they have put to make android so much more better.
@rascarlo - For one of the best best rom i have ever used. And for his sources.
@sparksco - For help when needed and Brilliant rom that is just unbelievably quick and fast.
If, customization is what you seek, either of their rom is an excellent choice.
All others who have helped me in their own way to make this happen. Thanks.

Bugs
Report bugs, i ll try my best to sort it out.
Can some try it and review it ? There shouldn't be any bugs imo.
Anyone? How is it working?
I can only speak for myself here, but I would be looking for a custom rascarlo with MORE options - I can't imagine how it could get any more minimal than what he already does.
If you do one with more customization options I would definitely be interested!
I'll be giving this a go very soon. I prefer totally stock look on tablet, like a bit more customising on my N4. Only extra thing I'd use would be Nav bar mod for reducing the DPI.

I wanna thank you to your great rom! Okay, it's 4 years old, but I want to try the stock 4.2, but it was no working links to download the rooted stock roms from here, only just your worked. (I dont want to try cm10.1) As you wrote your rom nearby stock, with small but very useful mods. I put the stock bootanimation and the stock apps on the system, and it's working everything fast and slim as possible.
I tried cm13 or stock 4.4 with root - earlier, but this is far more the fastest rom for this still great tab.
Thank you again!
