but just the sides have to removed
some pair of scissors should do the trick?
i will have more redenders soon on different ideas

The reason why the Double Dip case didn't work well was because the sides weren't fully covered and sand/dust could get in and scratch the back. This seems a whole lot worse in that regard.

ok u make sense but why would sand go in unless u are living in a desert or dry continent?

Cos a single grain of sand or dirt can enter the casing by putting it on a table/chair/bed etc etc and from random grit on your hands and in your pocket

i live in in singapore and i dont find sand at all here except in forested areas or beach

So no neighborhood parks with a sandbox or glass manufacturers that bring in large truckloads into your part of town? All it takes is a windy day and a grain of sand to scratch up the aluminum or gorilla glass

Silicon is 2nd most abundant element on earth ,so you can't run away from it. It was quite funny when u said that you can find sand. Do you know what is tyndall effect? When u c sand, dusty particles flying in sunlight, does it happen in Singapore? .. maybe stop thinking about phones and give books a try , your wasting your pottential on silly things

Sand is EVERYWHERE. And I mean EVERYWHERE. I live in Arizona, closest sand is hundreds of miles to CA shoreline or hundreds of miles to Mexico border where the Mojave desert actually has sand (the AZ part of it is just dirt and dried earth afaik). I still get sand all the time in my shoes and in my pockets. There's flying sand everywhere, it's not like Singapore is in a magic bubble that doesn't let outside particles enter the city. Not to mention any glass makers in Singapore that would use sand on a daily basis.
Edit: More on topic, if you just want to feel the aluminum while using your phone, just use an aluminum case.

It's hot and humid in the deep South yet when I went there there was definitely sand in the wind.
I've heard good things about this case.

It'd most likely be made of plastic with an aluminum look then. There are some materials you can only get in the expensive cases. Real leather and real aluminum are two of them.

just search on ebay for aluminum HTC one case
Plenty of those are crap quality chinese imitations.
Most are plastic with "aluminum look" which is actually good, since some people have reported metal cases interfering with signal reception.
And sand really is everywhere.. Even here in NYC lol.
Its part of the reason I stopped using cases :\
Yea they protect from drops, but if I dont clean them fairly regularly, dust/sand/grit builds up and my phones end up getting scratched anyway.
Last phone I used a case with was my Xperia X1, then I had a BB and a Motorola android, both caseless, both looked better at the end than my X1.
Although now I am tempted to give cases a try again, since I really dont want to mess up my One.

...and concrete in most cases is made of sand or at least an aggregate similar to sand . What's more - silicon (and sand is silicon) is the second most abundant element in the Earth's crust (Wikipedia). So as someone mentioned above - sand is EVERYWHERE.

Sand or not, cases like that would look odd and feel awkward I think.
Also plenty of things can scratch aluminum.

[Q] Scratched Edge

So... I loosened my grip on my Vision while it was on my palm. And it slipped... It did two flips an plop, more like thud in slow motion, onto the tennis court. Yes I took my phone out while doing some tennis warmups. Stupid I know, but I was admiring it. (I got it just recently). Anyway, It did no damage, except a little tiny nick, hardly noticeably on the edge. But if you look closely, it's there. So I was wondering. Is it possible to sand it off or something?
Exact same happened to me just yesterday, except on the top-right.
I'm not too worried because there's always the possibility of a case, but yeah I'd like to know if I can sand it.
Very fine grit (180ish) and go with the grain of the brushed finish. Let us know how it turns out!
Ermmm anymore suggestions or agreement of the sanding w/ 180?
1) You can go ahead and sand it if you want, but you'll just take the paint off and then it'll look REALLY weird.
2) there is no grain. Its not made of wood, and it wasn't brush painted. It was sprayed.
Same thing happened to me. I tried sanding it and it made it look worst, as it takes the paint off. Maybe you could try finding a replacement bezel.
What are half the guys above talking about taking the paint off... its not painted on the metal parts... that's metal... not painted plastic or metal.... its a clear coating... either sprayed or adhesively layed on in the factory

Tape/Mask off screen area and use a Magic Eraser (which is a micro abrasive) on the scratched edge...might take a while but it should help to blend it nicely.

eh -- all image and no substance.

wear it like a well oiled baseball mitt.... would you rather play with a well broken in glove that never loses a ball, or a nice shiny stiff glove just for looks?
that scratch looks soooooo small... and the g2 has such sex appeal it dazzles the ladies and blinds them and they cannot see past the aura.
It is brushed aluminum. Brushed means aluminum that has been sanded to creat a flat non shiny finish. 180 grit is too coarse. Yes for the first pass at the deep scratches. I would suggest finishing with 320 grit 400 is a little too fine. Get the black sandpaper, it's called wet and dry. it is superior for fine detail work. Use the blue masking tape and tape off first, to protect.

I painted my otterbox

I needed some way to differentiate my dev phone from my daily phone. So, I grabbed some fusion plastic paint from Walmart. I scuffed the surface with a scotch-brite pad, then cleaned with 92% alcohol, then painted and applied clear-coat.

Not if he goes and buys a quality clearcoat.
I mean, id even suggest going to autozone for automotive clear coat and using that. If you want it to really last, use a few coats.
EDIT: I should read the entire first post.
It looks good. Matches up with the colors from Andromeda.
Nice. My friend has an otterbox for his iphone just like that.
I should have done a better prep job. Do not use the method I mentioned above. Go with 400 grit sand paper to smooth out the surface, then 800 grit sandpaper to remove the 400 grit scuffs. Then use alcohol to clean and then paint.
It has received 1 chip so far which I attribute to improper surface prep.
Here's a picture I snapped to day of my ultra-jig and the arduino which I plan on communicating with.
ok now i want more info on your ultra jig....
what else does it do? just varriable resistance via the switches? so it would be able to enter dock mode too eh? anything else?

It's for all the factory modes and OTG mode listed here in this thread http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=820275 I plan on helping out on saving some bricks with the Arduino's communications libraries. The wrapped around wire will connect into the Arduino. Hopefully I can get some good USB to serial to UART going on.

Oh wow you made it. So you got the connection you were wanting.

That's pretty cool really stands out with those colors. but my case broke in same exact spot no more then 5 minutes ago. But hey if the case could talk it woukd have storys for days
Just call otter. They will send a new one. That's why I don't have a problem messing with this one. My new one was free. Just go on their website, dial the number in the upper right corner and tell them what happened to your case and where you bought it. They sent me a new one with that information only.

Sorry, this is off topic a bit but do you think clear coat nail polish would be able to make the rubber part of the Otterbox Commuter less rubbery (and maybe harder)?
I know you probably don't have the case, but I'm talking about this rubber piece that goes before the hard shell:
The reason for this is because the rubber piece is too rubbery and it collects a ton of dust. It also dislodges a bit when I take it out of my pockets due to it being rubbery so I was looking for something I could use to make it less so. I didn't think of nail polish though. Let me know if you think this would make sense. It's just a random idea in my head when I seen you mention it. I would just be using it on the exposed top and bottom parts.

[Q]Bezel scratches easily?

Have a friend who told me how easy his bezel would damage from normal use. I didn't notice this until the other day when I noticed my bezel has lots of small scratches just from normal use (sitting in pocket, playing porn and such).
Anybody else noticed the bezel getting scratched/showing wear really fast?
Was gonna post this in the issues thread but wanted more confirmation before it was in there.

lol thats exactly what i was thinking. mine is flawless after a week and put in my pockets and stuff
Yeah, I've got to say that I am pretty surprised at how easily the bezel scratches. The phone fell out of my coat pocket as I was hanging it on the back of a wood chair. As it was falling it barely grazed the wood leg on the chair before hitting the carpet. I picked it up and looked and sure enough, there is a scuff on the bezel that refuses to rub off.
Luckily my case should be here in a day or two to cover it. But it does have me thinking, I don't think it's the actual metal that is showing the scratch. I think the bezel has some clear coating on it that is showing marks very easily. I bet there is a way to wipe the coating off or at least buff out any marks with some sort of solution and a microfiber towel.

Just to confirm its plastic. I take these apart for a living... IV had just about every Galaxy phone apart too.... the ones that look and feel like metal have a "metal like" coating (that scratches super easy) but from underneath once its removed you can see its plastic.... as a matter of fact, Sammy doesn't use hardly anything BUT plastic in there devices... the vibrant, GS4G, i9100, AT&T and T-Mobile versions... all plastic. They have a frame in the middle that's made out of that material they use in laptops... maybe coated aluminum? Its tan or silver in the phones but very strong and very light, and if you snap it in half, it almost looks like cast iron... anyway, bezels are plastic, just coated to look and feel metal like.

I think I'll stick to not scratching my phone.
I dont know about that... car paints is different from glass. I believe that those rubbing compound are like very fine liquid sandpaper that cut the clear coat of the car and bond it.
OP post some results please.
If you're that confident in this fix, ut a fine scratch in your screen and apply it shown in a video.
I'm sure you will get tons of thanks if this is proven to work!
In a similar vein, toothpaste is meant to work quite well for removing fine scratches (on the basis it's very gently abrasive).
I tried it on a scratched watch face once...
The watch smelt very nice afterwards
(Had precisely zero effect on the scratch though)
Thanks for the tip. Is this really works?

I have a video uploading of me applying this stuff to my screen of my HTC One, I am NOT going to purposely scratch the phone that is just stupid. This is to be used for removing small scuffs and scratches from pocket use ect, not gouges. Any scratch that a camera phone can visibly pick up is going to be way to deep.
One thing you guys fail to understand is that Gorilla Glass is FAR FAR FAR more durable than the clear coat of a car that this stuff was made for. When you make a product that fixes clear-coat it has to be some of the most soft gentle compounds that one can find used so that it does not chew or eat away at a clear coat. That is why it works just fine on glass.

it works great if you do not follow the directions. The directions want you ro rub it in, let it dry then rub it off. However from post and testing done in some of the automotive forums i am on it has been concluded that if you rub it in until there is nothing left to rub in then wipe it off it has better results. its done well on my car that had alot of scratches from previous owner. Best used with small micro fiber wax buffers that you can get 2-3 to a pack from Advance/Auto Zone. Sorry for going off the OP mods.

This seems like a terrible solution for one main reason, it will completely ruin the oleophobic coating on the screen. I am a car guy myself and swear by Meguiars for headlight and paint restoration. However, I would NEVER use this stuff on my phone...

Im sure if we coated the screen every day it would, using it once a year once every few months in minor amounts isnt going to do anything. ive use it on alot of my phones over the last 2 years with no issues.

It's not like liquid sand paper. Not even close. It has a resin compound that FILLS IN the scratches. If it were like liquid sand paper, it'd just make more scratches witch you'd then have to buff out.

Way to bump a 2 year old post to post wrong information.
It is like liquid sand paper.
It has a higher abrasive index than some of megs' professional series polishing compounds.
It's an abrasive period. It just so happens to also have fillers in it.
Way to reply with wrong information...waaa waaa waaa

Tempered glass screen protectors...

These are way better than the plastic crap that is dominant.
I've bought a couple of these. They are $8.95 on Amazon Prime:
http://www.amazon.com/dp/B00KGSW734/
I've also had one on my HTC One m8. Works awesome, and the feel... feels like glass.

From the pictures I think that must be Billy Mays hawking the things...
Hahaha! Yeah... They have to pitch these things some how (RIP Billy Mays)
But really, these protectors are the way to go. I will never use a plastic screen protector again.
Naah, I like my wet-applied TPU protectors, they never ever ever get dust stuck between it and the screen.
So I just got one. Hope this fits with otter box

the trick to installing these glass protectors is this:
turn your shower on to its hottest water setting; close the door.
go back in 10 minutes.
install the screen protector in your bathroom, with the door closed.
sounds nutty, but the condensation in the air attaches to any particulate matter in the air, and sticks it to the walls, or the floor;
not your screen :good:

for those in the know however; it is *the* way to do it properly.
that is unless you have access to one of these

That's about 10 times the size of my bathroom (which partially explains why I think it's nutty to be messing with a phone in there).
Then again, I actually did have access to a dust-free clean room about 10 years ago, when I was working for IBM.
Maybe what's needed is a small dust-free chamber to do these things. We could make a fortune selling them.

Do you leave your phone in there while the water is running or do you bring it with you when you walk in?

take it with you;
the plan is to remove materials in the air by adding condensation to weigh them down, not to 'hydrate' your phones screen; it probably wouldn't hurt; but i wouldn't do it as the condensation that accumulates on the screen is going to have to evaporate some time, and i dont want to know what the effects of that are after ive installed the s/p
I work at clean room and I usually install my screen protector under a chemical hood along with some gloves... Perfect install every time

I had to make a conscious decision and remove my screen Protectors. I tried a few and even some privacy screen Protectors. but most if not all of them desensitized the touch screen about 20% percent of the time. Plus, I love the gorgeous screen and vibrant colors hehe.
bought the zagg one from bestbuy, doesn't even come close to fitting the screen. short on one side and at the top and bottom when applied, if not for the box i would swear this was not made for this device!, that is how off the sizing is, application on the other hand was not only easy but bubble and dust free.

Zagg protectors aren't the best. I had one put on at a best buy by an employee a fam member's S3 last year and she had to go through 4 boxes to find one that fit correctly. Lol, $60 of protectors down the drain for Best Buy!
Just got the one from Amazon but can't be used with otter box. Even if I remove the otter box screen protector it is still to thick. It a nice screen protector tho. Fits exactly perfect
