Reboot issue - Desire Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

My desire is rooted and currently running on MildWild CM-8.0 JG. I was running just fine until recently. I turned the phone off accidentally and now I can't seem to get it to boot. The phone gets stuck in the HTC logo. Got into recovery to do a backup, then wipe and later a restore but the problem still persists.
Any advice?

When u did a nandroid backup, u basically backed up the problem so thats why it didnt boot. So i would re flash the rom or even try a different one and see if they boot.

HELP!!! hBOOT .92 in bootloop

I just installed HBOOT .92 on the root of SD card. It installed because it is listed at the top of recovery. But when I try to reboot, it keeps coming back to the bootscreen. I've tried powering down, but still comes back to bootscreen. What have I done and how can I get out of this? First time I've ever had what seems to be a potentially serious problem.

just restore through recovery... you got a back up right!?!
after you restore, it should be fine. updating HBOOT wipes your kernel which is why this happens.

Okay, not real sure what I did, but seems that I got out. Was finally able to get back to recovery screen and in the process of doing a nandroid restore.
Regardless, curious as to what I did wrong? Almost scared to attempt again. I guess I don't really need it, just feel like I need to have the latest and greatest of everything. Thanks for any input.
So, do you install the kernel right after flashing the new HBOOT, but before rebooting to avoid the problem again?

it's honestly not really a problem. just nandroid before you update HBOOt next time.
OR
not sure if this works but have a kernel backed up on your sdcard before hand. just flash the kernel from recovery and in theory you should be good to go with a nandroid restore.

[Q] Stuck at bootscreen after every single custom ROM flash.

hi
I´ve rooted and flashed my desire several times. rooted with unrevoked3 everytime and tried different roms like leedroid 2.2d, 2.2 f and rcmixhd 0.13. First time i did it i flashed leedroid 2.2d and it worked fine. After 1,5 months running leedroid my phone rebooted due to the overheating problems that 50 % of us suffer from (i rebooted it manually several times during those months and it worked until this day).
It got stuck at the bootupscreen with white background and green HTCtext. couldn´t install RUU via windows, had to grab the PB99IMG.zip onto my SD and boot into bootloader and restore my phone this way. Then i rooted it AGAIN, and flashed rcmixhd 0.13. Success! But only until i rebooted it manually, stuck at bootupscreen again.
I restored the phone from SD with pb99img as earlier. Flashed rcmixhd again and made sure i wiped everything (dalvik, cache, formatted sdcard and created a EXT), success! Until i rebooted my desire...back again.
Now im running stock non-rooted froyo. I´m getting tired of spending the night fixing it but i still want to use senseHD and i like tweaking stuff..
Do any of u guys recognize this problem and what can i do to fix it?
If any of you are from sweden, plz answer in swedish!
Same problem here, the only way i got to install a custom rom was by installing update-cm-6.1.0-Desire-signed.zip. Then installed a custom rom by using the "Rom Manager" tool.
Downloading and flashing through recovery mode, "No, can do!"
Ok, but "update-cm-6.1.0-Desire-signed.zip" isn´t that a custom ROM? Did you install that through ROM manager?
And did you flash another ROM on top of it?

yes this is a custom rom, i did a normal flash first to "update-cm-6.1.0-Desire-signed.zip" (some how that worked???). Then i reflashed through the "ROM manager" tool.
Do you remember to always wipe everything in Recovery before flashing a new rom?
Seems like I always used to have a bootloop or bootfreeze when did not do the proper wipe.

i wiped everything even the Dalvik Cache, didn't help a thing.
Could is be that is has something to do with rom's that are not signed?
I have this same problem now, any possible sollutions?
Perdonally i would suggest to reformat your sd cards and try again. Dont forget to wipe everything.

Happend to me once or twice.
What to do is, Turn of the phone take out battery do the neccessary wipes and formatting,
root
install clockwork mod from market, go to it and choose install recovery
install rom
install kernel (might affect it somehow)
reboot

Cyanogenmod 9 has made my device useless.

After installing Cyanogenmod 9 on the One X I started to notice extremely poor signal, Mobile and Wi-Fi. Also the phone would crash and randomly reboot when doing simple tasks such as opening messages etc.
Upon trying to get into recovery to install a different rom, the phone now flashes on a black screen and restarts the phone.
To try and solve this issue, I unrooted the phone and restored to stock recovery.
I then re-rooted the phone and installed clockworkmod recovery again.
I can now access clockworkmod recovery although it seems to have no effect. Installations of any rom fail and cyanogenmod always pops straight back up again after rebooting.
Has anyone else had this issue?
Does anyone have a way to fix this? Possibly to force the phone completely back to stock?
You can try first "SuperWipe" (from ARHD's thread) and flash a new ROM (don't forget boot.img before...)

Unfortunately I can't help you with SuperWipe, but you can find the HOX stock ROMs here.

Ran superwipe and tried to install the stock rom. Superwipe ran fine and did the job, although the rom installation still failed as it was doing before and I am now stuck with a htc bootloop. The device won't boot into recovery either. Any ideas anyone?

Did you try holding down the Power and Volume Down buttons while in the bootloop to enter the bootloader? Hold them down until the lights start to flash, the screen goes off and then the bootloader comes up.
If you can get into recovery with that, factory reset, clear cache and dalvik cache (under advanced) then try install the ROM.
I'm not the best person to be helping, but I hope that works for you!
I had a similar problem once where the phone would just sit on the HTC One X screen, and trying to go into recovery just put the phone back to the HTC screen. I fixed it by flashing the boot.img, factory reseting, clearing out caches and installing the ROM again. No problems since.
I'm afraid if this doesn't work, I may have to abandon you and let someone else take over, as I'm no expert, but I'll see what I can do to help.
Edit: sorry, it is 2AM here and I need some rest for an early start at 6AM. I will check up on this thread when I wake.

FIXED!!!
To anyone else having this problem, I downloaded ARHD Flashboot 7.0.0 and ARHD 7.0.0, followed the instructions on what to do and installed ARHD successfully.
This has now completely gotten rid of Cyanogenmod and seems to have got clockworkmod working again.
It's probably work using the "Fix Permissions" option in ROM manager before you attempt this as I believe that is what got clockworkmod working and able to install files again. (I may be wrong)
Thankyou for everyone's assistance.

Did the phone come with that ROM or did you flash it yourself? If you flashed it yourself, where did you get it?
I would say just full wipe (make sure you wipe system, data, and cache) and flash a new ROM, since you were planning to anyway. (Remember to back up your apps and settings with Titanium Backup or something similar if you want to save anything.) aospX in the Inspire 4G dev forums (which are compatible with Desire HDs) is a good stable ICS ROM. IceColdSandwich is a more customizable one from the DHD dev forums. If the new ROM still has problems then post again.
I had to get the mobo on my device changed for some reason and this new one had all of this already pre installed.
so i did a complete wipe using a script and after that installed blackout ics 4.0.4 with sense 3.6. it installed successfully and now The phone restarts after the boot is complete again and again, the same used to happen on the previous rom. I removed the simcard and it works just fine.

Which wipe script? This does matter; some scripts can reformat your partitions incorrectly.
EDIT: and just to clarify. This phone came to you with S-OFF and CM7.1. It had bootloops. You then flashed Blackout. Still bootloops. You then removed the SIM card. It now boots properly. Is that accurate?

Android Revolution HD Super Wipe Desire HD.zip. But the simcard issue existed since the previous rom. The phone would restart after booting up instantly, i remove the simcard and voila its working normally.

What I would do is, try full wiping and flashing a stock ROM. Or you could try ARHD, which is close. If the issue is still present on stock, it could very well be a hardware issue.
Okay i can try that.. Quick question. after i do a full wipe how do i install a stock rom?

You can use SuperWipe (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=840040) or EXT4 wipe (http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=868720) scripts.
I use ext4 wipe scripts to wipe my Ace.

Also try replacing the SIM. Sim can be a problem.

[Q] Bootloops on 2 roms after fresh ruu install

Hey guys, got a problem here.
Today i wanted to try out the cyangenmod 10.1. I currently was on the icecoldjelly 421 2.0. After flashing the boot img and installing the cyanogen rom, after the reboot the rom keeps hanging on the load screen!
Tried erase cache but nothing worked. Flashed the boot.img from the rom(installer).
So that didnt worked. Brought back my phone to stock with a RUU. Everything works fine.
So again after this i installed cyanogen again... still the same problem, it hangs in the loading screen...
I thought maby the rom is faulty, so i installed the newest version of icecoldjelly 2.1, flashed the boot from the rom..... also with this rom it hangs on the loading screen.
Im no restoring my backup because i dont know what to do?
Im on hboot 1.36
pervious version of icecoldjelly 2.0 worked just fine.
So guys do you know what the problem could be? Never had thisbefore

After putting back my backup i tryed to install icecoldjelly 2.1 instead of cyanogen first.
What ive read and think i was forgotten was the full wipe of data before installing the rom. I now did this after reading again on the ICJ forum, and now the rom is working fine!!
CM should work too after a full wipe.
