CWM won't see our flash roms - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

Hey guys, my wife has my old HTC Amaze, which is still rooted, and she decided to try a new Rom finally. I updated Rom Manager and CWM but it would only flash one of the 4 that I downloaded. 2 of them it wouldn't even see on the sd card, even though you can see it on es file manager and if you just go to "install zip from sd". The ones it did see wouldn't boot past the first screen. I know they work because I used them. I'm asking over here because I know where the good minds are! Any help or ideas would be greatly appreciated!

Information is not much good to us without ROM names. Mostly just want Android version numbers.
ROMs that wouldn't boot - factory reset.
ROMs you can't see - look in the 0 folder.

Try a different recovery

If you stuck on boot screen. Goto recovery and wipe cache. Some time system reset solves this problem.
Add for not seeing the ROMs. Check following.
1 Maker sure thy are in zip format(I know you are clever)
2 restart your phone go back to recovery(this solves the issue some times)
3 try twrp recovery

Let's hope this works for you. Let's us know how's it going.

Whatever issues and problems you are having will most likely get worst unless
you go to the correct forum for the " HTC Amaze" phone and ask for help there.
I am sure you would not want to end up with a shiny brick.

how to install the official tmobile update?

Hi i am having trouble installing the the tmobile software update that was release about a week ago. I bought this phone awhile back from a guy who had it rooted but i told him to have it reset to the original mode. Whenever i try to update it it takes me back to recover mode CWM. What should i do? If not what are benefits of rerooting if i can?
There are 3756372848362 threads on this exact topic and they have all been posted since the OTA update came out two weeks ago.
Try a search
And here's a hint: if you are using cwm recovery the ota update will not work with your phone.

I downloaded the usb storage manager from android marketplace and change some of the settings (erase some sd file names) and now my phone is showing 0 space available and to make matter worse i just uninstalled the program and cant download anything.
You dont have to unroot to take the ota. Just have to have the stock recovery

This topic has been brought up so many times it isnt even funny any more. Even in the rom threads like juggernaut people are asking how to get rid of this update. A SIMPLE search would have answered the question..
...and its not like i didnt help the guy after i chided him for not searching. All he has to do is flash the rom i posted a link to via CWM which he ALREADY stated exists on his phone.
Damn teenagers on xda.

(odin) twrp 2.2

Though I made the tar.md5 the credit goes to http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1484304. This is an ODIN flashable version of TWRP 2.2 for the Hercules.
::::::Update:::::::
Goo manager uses the website to host the recovery. The website is down. I will leave the link up until either I'm officially told to take it down or a Moderator locks it.
-Instructions-
1: Reboot to bootloader
2: Open ODIN
3: Select "PDA"
4: Select the "recovery.tar.md5" file.
5: Hit start and let ODIN do it's thing. Your phone will reboot.
As always I'm not responsible for anything that happens to your device. Flashing anything to your phone has it's inherent risks. ODIN can cause severe damage to your device.
Enjoy.
Link recovery.tar.md5 - 6.66 MB

Hahaha my friend you should of done a little research before you just started flashing recoveries. They are completely different recoveries which means you can not restore a CWM in TWRP or vica versa. Your CWM backups are still in the same place but to restore them you will need to flash back to a CWM recovery...
Hope that helps you out and next time just check your stuff out prior to just flashing away... Safety first :good:
You better back this up somewhere because the developer for this recovery doesnt want any side downloads or so.

Are you nuts? You can't use the recovery for the T989 on a GT-9192! You'll brick your phone if you muck up your kernel. Or if you're lucky, you won't brick but the recovery will not boot cuz it's NOT the right one for your device..

[Q] Which Recovery

Which Recovey Do You Guys Think is Best CWM or TWRP?
I'm using TWRP because it's what I've used on my prior HTC devices and I'm familiar with it. I've read that 4EXT recovery might be available for our phones soon, and I'll switch to that if it becomes available.

+1 on 4EXT, That's by far my favorite recovery:good:
Where did you hear that it was coming to the sgs3?
I emailed madmaxx on it and he said he was really busy with allot of other models and he would look into our sgs3's since it's a popular device.
Hopefully we will see it soon:fingers-crossed:
CWM is great, but TWRP is just awesome.
For me, TWRP has these little things that just make sense, like a link to wipe dalvik/cache right after you flash something, option to queue up multiple zips to flash in a certain order, option to compress your backups (because they do end up taking quite a bit of space if you have multiple backups), etc.

I believe I read on their site that they may begin working in it at a future date. I'm satisfied with TWRP, but I'm hopeful that 4EXT is "in the cards" so to speak.
Edit: it appears like they want to start working on the international version of the SGS3. Hopefully we might me able to sway them towards working on the stateside version first.

I like twrp personally. Layouts better and easier to use. Plus it has a built in file manager.
Cwm has the ability to prevent itself from being overwritten after ota update but there's other ways around this.
They are both good recoveries imo, just personal preference.

I prefer twrp (only when 4ext isn't available). I talked to madmaxx82 and he was in middle of a complete redesign/overhaul on the UI of 4ext when started having computer issues. Then he did say we r on the list. I was his beta tester for the HTC Amaze. He prefers the HTC devices so I assume will be doing those first.

Yes, install goo manager from the playstore and install recovery from there. No you will not be able to restore any backup made with CWM in TWRP.
Thanks for the quick answer. I think I'll just stick with CWM for now. I'd love to see EXT for us, I had that for the sensation and loved it and was a bit disappointed to find there wasn't a version here.

Return to Stock = Sponged it! help!

Something has gone horribly wrong... I was running rooted/stock using the Team Epic procedure for several months now without a problem. I attempted to return to stock tonight using the method posted here:
http://www.epiccm.org/2012/06/sprint-sgs3-stock-restore.html
Something has gone horribly wrong. I get the Samsung splash screens but then it goes to a pulsing blue to purple LED and that's it.
I can get it into download mode and bring up CWM to select the ROM, but that's it.
I'm in over my head here, big-time I thought I had it figured out, but apparently not.... Help!!
Thanks, gang!
if you can get into recovery mode this is the best i can think of to do, is go to this post http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1904099 and download the one for your size phone then copy it onto a sd card, put it in your phone and enter recovery mode and flash it. youll be back to factory.

I'm still a HUGE rookie... what's a nandroid? (and if I have to ask, I'm sure I didn't...) It wasn't in the instructions from the Team Epic guys...
I have been using Titanium Backup Pro for Root to do backups every few days to DropBox... I'm hoping that will prove to be useful here... If I can get it working again.... Download time is up to 32 minutes now... Nuts!
nandroid is a whole phone backup that you do in recovery.how your phone is, is what the back up will be. and yeah that download time is carzy but sometimes it will speed up.
tb is only app backups really, so after you get your phone running like a champ again, you run tb and re install your apps and their data.
hope it works out for you thou

OK, so once this is finished downloading, what comes next? I'm still a little confused on the whole 'odexed/dedexed' thing... I'm assuming I need to load it onto the SD card (which I can do), plug that into the phone, and then select it from CWM? Or do I need to go back to the stock recovery first using Odin?

Don't worry about odexed or deodexed right now, after you flash that, you will be back at stock as if you just walked out the store with your phone, factory, then you can start all over,,, that rom/file will make your phone stock.

So far, no luck... It appears that the download aborted after I went to bed. The file was supposed to be 806Mb, but came in at 432Mb. If I try to load it onto the phone, it says, "Can't open /external...(long file name)....zip (bad). Installation aborted.
I also downloaded the MD4 file last night, and that appears to have been successful. It seems to be working properly for the moment. It's mounting the partition which is a good start.

ETA: Looking good.... Got the Sprint splash screen, and now the 'Android is Upgrading, Optimizing app XX of XXX'....
Aaaand, we're live people!! Success! MD4 is up and running, and there doesn't seem to have been ANY loss of data.... It didn't exactly return it to stock either as all my data is all still there, but it does appear to have removed SuperUser, which would mean I'm no longer rooted, correct? It also appears to have gone back to the stock recovery. So to re-root, does the 'Team Epic Root from Recovery' method I used before still work? (i.e. use Odin to install custom recovery, then flash the Team Epic Root from Recovery .zip file)
THanks a million, gang! At least I have a working phone again, with apparently no loss of data at the moment. It'll be nice to have my Root back eventually, so Tasker can do its thing, but for now, it's more than a paperweight!

If I understand correctly, I can still use the same Team Epic Root from Recovery file to install the CWM recovery regardless of which version (MB1 or MD4) I have on my phone, right? Or is there a different tar file I need to use to root the MD4 version?
Sorry for the dumb questions... Very new to this stuff still...
just use the same method you did the first time you rooted and youll be good to go.
soory for the late response but yea, I believe montecarlo's right. Sounds like u used skunk ape's guide for rooting? If so should b no problem. If u used a toolbox, it may/may not have the md4 update?

Correct me if I'm wrong, but I can just leave the 'return to stock' ROM on the SD card, and if I need to head to the Sprint store for some reason, I can just boot into recovery, select that one, and presto! returned to stock, right?
