Is there a reason I would use this one over the one in the market? Does it rotate? Or is it just for not USA-ers?

There is no HD version 10.3.1
You must have a kindle fire 2. If you look in the HD section you will see a COMPLETELY different version number.
The versions for the 7" HD model are 7.3.x
Sounds like you got REAL lucky since I don't think you know what device you have!

You may be right I may have thought mine was 10.3.1 when really it was 7.3.1 with the thousands of posts just about the kindle fire its is easy to get confused and lost just like I somehow ended up posting incorrect info in the kindle fire 2 section when I typed in Amazon 7 Kindle Fire HD in the search bar at the top. I was a man and admitted I was wrong and withdrew my comment now will you drop it. Thanks
Dropped. Nothing personal. Just want to keep things accurate to protect others.
Takes a big man to admit his mistake. I've made my share.. That's for sure!

New here in need of help

Hey, New guy on this device thread
Yes, I did try search but it's confusing and I don't want to mess up my new tablet,I have a Kindle Fire HD (2nd Gen) and I'm looking to install a custom Rom because stock OS is pretty basic, minimal and lacks many popular features, can anyone please point me in the right direction?
Thanks.

Thought I'd mention ahead of time this is the wrong forum, I can't grab the entire 2nd gen forum link from my kindle but I just made a post that someone asked pretty much the same thing for their 7" HD, you didn't happen to mention your kindle model so I will send you where I just posted, but if its a 8.9" model, then you will want to follow the same tutorial, but from the 8.9" development section, made by the same guy. Stuff in this forum will hard brick your kindle. Anyways here's the link: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2548602

Yes, agreed. I would suggest you go to the Kindle Fire HD general or Q & A forums, there are quite a few valuable resources there, including a guide I made recently based on the methods I followed to root my device and install Jelly Bean.

Best ROM for battery life on Kindle Fire.
Hello! I have been lurking on this site for a long time. I have seen a few topics regarding this, but I am looking for an up to date answer. What is the best rom for battery life that doesn't take away too much performance? I like to play with emulators on it, and I don't want my DS to suffer. At this point, I am running JB 4.2.2 with hashcodes v3 kernel. I can play for about an hour, and the battery is at 75%. I was running in airplane mode, with wifi off, and the screen as dim as possible. This shocked me.
I tried this KitKang, because I seen someone claim they can have 16 hours with wifi on, but I got stuck in a bootloop after flashing and had to restore.
Best battery life ROMs will be stock or cm7.
For KitKat (non-otterx) roms you will need to upgrade twrp see my zipped twrp recoveries

Kindle Fire Flashable Recoveries TWRP/COTR/CWM[2014]
The ROM with most features is probably slimkat (otterx) but will need to convert to otterx project see my how to video http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2828056

Thanks for the response. Could you perhaps link me in the direction of the most recent/best version of CM7? I looked on my own, on the link you provided (The complete list of ROMs) and ended up not being sure which is best, or if it is the most recent version/kernel. I just want to avoid as much bloatware as I can and have a nice, speedy device, with a decent battery. (Dont we all.) Also, could you point me in the direction of the gapps flash to go with the CM7 you suggest? Thanks a bunch.
Also, forgive my stupidity, but CM7 wont hinder my processor or anything like that, should it? I don't want to end up limiting my device. Thanks in advance.
It has been 2 years since any updates to cm 7

Yeah, thats why I feel so stupid for asking about it. I was hoping you could recommend a ROM for me to try, based on what I was asking. I was looking over, and am interested in the [Rom] HellFire Kindle CM 7.2 v1.1(tweaked cleaner better)41812. (Probably because it says cleaner/better..) LOL. Do you think it will be fine for what I have requested? Or would something like barebones be less fluff and more substance?
I haven't used any of the cm7 ROMs for kindle
Maybe limited to links that still work.

Man, I have to say, after seeing all the useless apks removed from the barebones, I am definately jumping on this one. One question though. When I tried to download from the link in the OP, media fire had removed it. I went through and found links to the file on zippyshare, but there are two files, one titled Step_1_CM7BAREBONES.zip, and one CM7BAREBONES_step_2.zip
I dont understand.
Do I just flash them both?

Yes, both.
They are nandroid backups not proper ROM.zips
So need to extract files first, then place in twrp folder on SD card, then select restore in twrp.
