Whenever I put my kindle to sleep, it still emits light from it, but this doesn't happen when I turn the kindle off completely. I am running a 1st gen kindle fire with jellybean 4.2.2.

I would think the forums for the original kindle fire are the most similar:

Agree'd, but he could try reducing the brightness before putting it to sleep, as on the Kindle Fire 2 (the forum he is posting in!) there is the same issue.
DerangedSyntax, don't try to do anything from this forum as you will brick your device, use the link above to find info and roms/help for your device, if you are sure it's a KF1.

That is a stock graphic. It doesn't tell us anything.
Honestly, if you cannot tell whether you have a Kindle Fire or Kindle Fire 2, you probably shouldn't be messing with it in the first place.
[edit:] In the link I posted earlier, you will find information on how to tell which Kindle Fire you have, and whether or not you're in the right place. Pay attention. That is, unless you just want to throw your money away.

You'll need a factory cable to get out of this one, You can either buy it (from skorpn or from ebay) or you can make one yourself if you're in a hurry
I can tell you how to make it if you know how to solder!
Hi guys,
I have got my hands on a Kindle but I'm not sure what version I have. I've read a few posts ans guides and apparently you can tell the version by its software version.
It has a version labeled 6.3.1_user_407920, am I right assuming it is a first generation Kindle Fire?
If that's the case, what is worth as of this days? $100? $125?
Thanks in advance for the help!

Thanks for taking a look at my question. Yep im a noob and thoroughly enjoyed the noob welcome video. Though i feel prepaired for any backlash this question may bring as a result of my noobery, I did search the forums and really just want to confirm what i believe to be is the grim truth.
I read this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2228532
so because I have a second generation kindle I can't root it and remove the adds or do any cool stuff? Is that about the long and short of it?
kindle fire hd 8.9
system version 8.4.6
I think you should be able to root it and if not you will be able to in the coming weeks, they rooted the hdx and I thought the second generation 7"HD model, so I would assume it should be available for the 8.9" model very shortly.

thanks for the info. Ill wait till a more safe and easy method is out
Do you have an HD or HDX? If it's the HD with 8.4.6 then it's rootable and flash able now. Did it to my wife's 8.9 a few weeks ago.

i have a fire hd 8.9 , bu im just worried about bricking it. I figured safer and more simply methods may come out for a noob lik me
Took me a while and a lot of reading of the threads here before I took the plunge. Better to wait until comfortable then taking the plunge when not ready and making a mistake.

I think yours is a second gen kindle fire, seeing otter2 and the big kindle fire logo. If it is, you're in the wrong forum, this is for the kindle fire first gen. And if it is, and you follow instructions from here, you will not be able to recover your fire. And even if it is a first gen, you need to post this in the Q&A Forum.
I put this in the q and a forum, also I belive it was the first gen, how can I or you tell? I can take more pics if needed

I found out from this website
http://glyde.com/glydecast/how-to/which-kindle-do-you-have/
That my kindle is the (2012) version. The second version as my number starts with: DO26.
