I have an AT&T S3 that I flashed using the [HOWTO] [ROOT] No Tripping Flash Counter - [ATT / Bell / Telus / Rogers / Sasktel] thread. What's the best way to return everything to stock (none of my data remaining) and retain root? Do I simply do a factory reset from within the phone, or within recovery, or reflash the ROM? Also, do I have to manually remove my nandroid backups from CWM?
Just flash the 4.1.1 stock rom using odin then root if after. Easiest way.
If you want to fully wipe your phone, in CWM, go to mounts and storage, and format /sdcard then flash rooted stock in odin.

The easiest way is to just go into clockwork mod and wipe everything except system and boot I believe. You could then just flash the stock recovery if you don't wand CWM.

Thank you all for replying. If I just did the factory restore would it retain root? I will try to do the factory reset then flash the root injected stock rom from Odin. The factory reset should remove all my info, correct? I'm going to miss this phone. I think it was a really well thought out phone by Samsung.
Wow, I tried the procedure, and it keeps tripping the counter thru odin, what the heck am I doing wrong, 2-S4 comin, selling 2 of my G3 on ebay, got to get them ready. The stock flash thru odin works perfect, but when I jigg the device it shows 1 trip everytime.
Thanks
At work I have access to jtag box, should I go that route?

Go here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1746665 and follow the instructions - watch the video from wwjoshdew and it's super easy. Get a stock rom from here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1739426 - this thread also provides instructions on how to revert back to stock.
You could always sell the phone the way it is - the aokp rom is a definite feature..

Yea but i think the average person is going to be like wtf is this. Most people don't know about custom roms and phones. (at least i dont think they do)
So i flashed the stock firmware and it keeps hanging at the samsung boot screen it does the att boot animation then gets stuck at the samsung one.
I put the md5 fild in the pda box on odin. thats correct right?
I'm trying to download the file from another mirror maybe i got a corrupt download.

No, just pull the battery and reboot into recovery. Do a wipe data/factory reset then reboot and you should be good to go.

I've found that even after flashing a stock rom I have to do a factory reset to get back to unmodified status. When I say factory reset, I don't mean from the settings menu, that doesn't do it for me, you have to do it from stock recovery.
what stock recovery and stock rom should I use? Just use Odin?

- Flash MrRobinsons root66 image and flash using ODIN.
- Once flashed, you can use triangle away app and reset the counter.
- Once the counter is reset you can unroot the device from SU menu.
- Reboot and perform a factory reset.
- At this stage the custom binary counter should show Official.
- If the device status still shows modifed, you can flash original stock ROM using ODIN.

Actually if you have stock recovery, reset the counter first with triangle away, then Odin stock mb4. If you Odin first you lose root, which triangle away needs to work, so you are SOL.
If you dont have stock recovery, Odin mrRobinsons pre rooted mb4, the triangle away, then the stock non rooted mb4.
After both make sure you factory reset to remove any remaining apps that needed root, ie: SuperSU, titanium back up...

Go into the dev section, and find the stock/rooted UCAMA4 rom from Mr. Robinsons thread...http://www.androidfilehost.com/?fid=22901594685178627
The rom is above this line...I pulled it for you...^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^^....
Then odin push it to the device.
Once complete...run triangle away then remove the app.
Then remove SU from within the app.
Then take the update..(optional)
Flash counter will read "0", and device will read normal...
Dont forget to go into the stock recovery and wipe data, factory reset when done.
That's it...it's that easy.....g
Thanks a lot I really appreciate that G!. I actually got the counter back to 0 with the updated triangle away. Im still rooted on 4.1.1. So now I need to flash 4.1.2 to remove root and upgrade to 4.1.2. Hopefully I wont trip the counter .....

I recently bought a T-Mobile Galaxy S4 and right away put a custom recovery on and rooted the phone. I'd actually like to go back to stock recovery, no root, and have my download mode show as non custom. Can I use Triangle Away to reset it, flash a stock recovery and be back to 100 percent stock? Or would I have to use Triangle Away and then flash a while stock firmware and pretty much start with a clean install?

You have to use triangle away first, and then just odin back to stock firmware. You can't flash the stock recovery by itself though.
Not entirely true, you can use triangle away, then use mobile Odin to flash just stock recovery out of the full .tar file, then use the unroot option in super su.

This sounds amazing. I have the full .tar.md5 file. How would I pull recovery out of there? And in Odin, would I just choose PDA and then pick the recovery file only?
-Edit- Would I need to use mobile Odin? Could I just use the Windows version of Odin?
Drop it on your sdcard, and when you direct mobile Odin to it, it divides it up in to its separate parts, you then clear out the parts you don't need, leaving only the stock recovery. Mobile Odin costs a few bucks, but totally worth it.

Good news is that using this method I am back to stock/official on the phone (well, I guess it is good news, I'll miss doing custom ROM stuff). The bad news is that even though I selected Recovery only in Mobile Odin it did a factory reset. I've only had the phone a few days so no big deal I suppose. I may just go ahead and do a full wipe in case there are files hanging out on the internal card taking up space.
Oh ****, sorry, there is an option to do that in MO, I thought it defaults to not doing that. But Im glad it worked otherwise. Pretty handy app. I would do a full wipe at this point anyways.

Not a big deal. The app looks great and I was happy to buy it to support the developer. His apps/guides have helped me very many times in the past. I did a full wipe and I'm starting to rebuild now. I appreciate all the advice/feedback.
I decided to do the T-Mobile JUMP program so I figure if I'll only have the phone for 6 months I'll leave it stock. Both to prevent possible bricks and because the phone running stock is pretty nice anyway.
Hi,
I bought a Galaxy S3 T999L from craigslist and wanted to unlock it to send it overseas. My sister had a T-Mobile account so I had her contact the representative and request it. They said it would happen within 24 hours. Anyway, since I didn't have much time, I rooted it using "Method 1 - The Root66 Way" through Odin in this thread: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2370981
Today, T-Mobile gave me an unlock code but when I used it, it didn't work. My guess is that it's because the phone is rooted. Is there a way to go back to it being unrooted so I can use the unlock code?
Thanks in advance
Open SuperSU app and select full unroot. Though I doubt its whats keeping you from getting unlocked. Worth a try though.

No you must be rooted to use Triangle Away.
Yes there are several options to root and you can just reroot using any one. Shouldn't be any need to wipe anything if you want to use root66 again.

Either Triangle away is not working properly or I'm doing something wrong but I used your 1st method to revert back and unroot using the stock and root file, kernel and recovery files through Odin and used Triangle away at the end. It stated that counter is 0, then I unrooted from SU app and restarted but the counter read 1 after restart.
I'm not sure what's going on.
Make sure you are flashing the stock SECURE Kernel and stock recovery, then TA. Then unroot.
And you may actually want to try running triangle away, reboot download, then if the counter is zero, Odin flash the official firmware.

ok so this time I re-rooted using recovery method and then UNrooted using the recovery method listed by you.
Reboot into CWM or TWRP Recovery
Flash PureStock Rom
Flash the unmodified, Secure UVAMB7 Kernel
Flash Stock UVAMB7 Recovery
Next, if you want to wipe everything but your internal SD Card, Factory Reset before rebooting.
If you want a 100% clean, out of the box type device, reboot Recovery.
This should take you into the stock recovery you just flashed. Now Factory Reset.
Reboot Phone
(Last chance to run Triangle Away!)
Open SuperUser/SuperSU (app)
Find and select the option to Permanantly Unroot.
Reboot
Done!!!

After using TA to reset counter and after unrooting by SU, i restarted and then checked binary counter in downloading mode and it read 1... why is that? so frustrating....
the reason I want to do this is because I have an unlock code but it won't work... there's no other explanation as to why the unlock code from TMOBILE wouldn't work other than this counter issue...
It could be the wrong unlock code. Ive heard of more than a few people having to call back a few times. I was able to unlock with a count of about 8 or so. Granted I wasnt using a code, but I dont see this as being the cause. But to be sure, try this:
Triangle Away. (Close/reopen the apo to make sure it worked) then pull the battery. Reboot directly to download mode. Make sure the counter is 0. Flash the official firmware released yesterday.
No idea why its not working for you. Ive had several confirmations that it did work before. Keep in mind that if you have a custom recovery or kernel, every time you boot up the phone it will retrip the counter to 1. So be careful your not booting up w/ cwm or twrp installed.
