I dropped my phone and busted the screen to help. Would it be better to file a claim on the insurance for damage or a lost phone? Or just buy a screen off eBay and replace it?
Sent from my SGH-I897 using xda app-developers app

You can send it to Samsung for repair and not void your warranty and it costs the same or less than making an insurance claim. I would call Samsung for a price. If you replace it yourself you void your warranty.
Sent from my SGH-T889 using xda premium

Just going to have to claim it on insurance. The outer glass is cheap but the screen is like $239.
I've gotta replace both.

I had screen damage too. Since I have full insurance, I filed online the damaged device. Basically I told the truth to php insurance through online filing. They sent a new GN2 device. And I sent the damaged device to the php insurance. No problems.
If you have full insurance then you can do this two times a year. All of this is information that you can get from their website.

Yeah I called them. $175 dollars. Samsung wants $178.33 to fix it and voids the warranty.

It was $130 when I did it. Now it is $175. It sucks. But it depends if this device is worth it. I would do the insurance thing over Samsung directly. After all this is what you paid the full insurance for. After a year in the contract and GN3 comes out it would be worth paying the $100 to get out of contract and get the GN3 or another device that might better than GN3. In the end, you have to pay. One way or another. How you pay depends on you.

This is the same way Galaxy Note 2 screen cracked with CNET's stress testing.

Whats the difference between reporting it screen broken or so part/dmg to lost or stolen? Im guessing they still charge the same price?

I've thought about this this myself. I know it wouldn't be honest but if the cost of a fix is the same for a replacement I'm sure many people just say screw it. I'll say I lost the phone, get a replacement and keep the broken one for parts. Hell the replacement cost of a new Spen and new battery alone..I'm not advocating this I'm just starting the obvious.

So what if I want to just replace my battery? Do they charge also?

First phone that cracked with a protective cover?

My phone just cracked while playing Foosball with my brother. Unlike any others, the screen was directly impacted by the Foosball stick, not from dropping damage. I'm using a Trident aegis case on mine. I'm considering buying a squretrade insurance as its the best option right now

Well in that situation the case is really irrelevant; if the stick hit the screen directly it wouldn't make a difference whether there was a case on it or not.
I believe you can add insurance from tmobile up to 30 days after getting the phone but the deductible is ridiculous, like 150$ i believe. Nonsense when the phone was 99$ in the first place.

No you can't. You have 14 days from the date of purchase to add insurance after that you can't. Unless you file a warranty exchange. That will give you the chance to add insurance. 7.99 a month. Trust me I do this everyday at t-mobile.

The replacement cost of an in contract GS3 is about $650. $150 doesn't sound so bad.

I bought a sexy back battery cover for my s3 and I took it out of the case to try to be flashy.. I got up while my phone was on my lap and bam right into the st bashing the corner just a lil scratches and one crack horizontally across the phone. I live in Miami hoping to get it fixed asap.. anybody know how much or where I could do this? Im so bummed now... any help is appreciated.

Thanks. This is good to know in the future. Im past my 14 days already so I wasnt able to add Tmo insurance but $177 isnt bad at all. But I assume you have to send it in and I wonder how long that would take. That's the only drawback but still better non the less. Did you call samsung support or did you chat with them? Also Tmo will cover software issues for 1 year for free but you just have to pay $20 to get a replacement, and after you get a replacement they will ask if you want to add insurance. Once you have tmo insurance then its $5 for software issues and $130 for physical damage as that goes through Asurion and not Tmobile technically. So thats another route if you didnt get it within 14 days of your contract. I Know its too late now but once your phone is fixed you have that option still.
I'm thinking about going through Squaretrade insurance too but you also have to send them the phone for repair. Its avg about $5 a month with their 2 yr insurance plan. But I dont recall if there's a certain period that you have to apply. It might be 30 days within your contract. I have to double check.
Here's the one for squaretrade with $99 deductible

Not at all if it is just screen damage which u say it is then they are literally going to unscrew the screws on back take the board out replace screen put motherboard back in and that's that. I'll tell u what let them do it. There is a little more involved to it then that won't get into detail but I did two friends screens and the one kid wanted the black face or the dark face(screen that's on pebble blue) on his white gs3 and it was a *****. Taking the board camera, connectors all that was easy....its the glue that holds the screen to the actual housing that is hard to get off. And u have to get it all off for screen to sit in there nicely anyways he liked the job I did it actually looked cool minus the white home button. Anyways good luck send it to Samsung now but after go with ensquared or squaretrade

Hi,
What about buying the screen from ebay and trying to replace it yourself? It might be a little complicated and hard without having proper skills but you can try it out.
I have owned an iphone 3gs in a past and once when I cracked the screen I replaced it myself saving lots of money. It worked just fine. You can give it a try but I'm not really sure how hard it is on samsung.
And yeah, it was a digitized, and a display itself

I think you can buy the glass alone for like $30 from ebay or google or something. Then you just have to be carefull getting the glass off with some heat or something but seems doable if you really needed to.

You can call or email Samsung and ask for a quote on RMA, read some where on the forum that it was 178.50 to get iy repaired with them and that includes the S&H fees. Or you can check if there are 3rd party repair shops around your area that works with the SG3... there's also a 3rd party repair service that does it for a reasonable price, but I can't find the link that someone posted on XDA. I'll keep looking and post it.
I'm trying to be extra careful on how I handle the phone, since I too missed to added TEP and my window ended about 5days ago

Cracked my screen

And it didn't take much to do it either! Was sitting in a patio chair, slipped out of my pocket 18in down to poured concrete. My gnex had taken falls 10x worse and come away unscathed.
Be careful, this big phone is really a whimp in the durability department.
No case, never use them so it is partially my bad but I was really surprised this fall was enough to cause this kind of damage. She is still 100% operational however. I have been quoted $300 and $350 to replace. I do have insurance but am not sure how I will proceed at this point. I may just use it as is for a while versus getting a new one immediately and feeling like I need to keep it in a bubble.
Be careful!

The sad story of a Broken Screen and no options...

Alright, so the unthinkable happened. Yes, I dropped my beloved Note II. Less than two weeks into owning it, too.
The drop was about 2 feet and landed on my foot, then bounced onto a tile floor (yeah, I know). The fall was light and hardly made a sound, but alas I now have a spiderweb originating on the left side of my screen. It's not too bad but here are some pictures so you know the kind of damage that can befall your phones.
It was VERY difficult to take pictures of, but it's easy to see under a light. I just thought some of you might want to know how easily the screen can be broken.
If anyone has any advice on dealing with this, It would be greatly appreciated.
P.S. I'm in Canada with Bell, and have their smartphone premium care plan. I haven't spoken to anyone yet as this happened this evening, but it looks like it only covers accidental damage resulting in failure, for which i have to pay 150$ for a new phone (that seems to be the only option). So for now I think I'm stuck with a very sadly broken screen. If anyone cares, I'll update later after I talk to them.
I have same plan with Bell. You will be covered. Just have to pay the $150 on your next bill and send in your old one. My daughter dropped a 3 week old bold 9900 into the toilet and it was covered!

Damn man sorry to hear that. I've only done iphone screen replacements so not sure how difficult these are to replace but here are some you can pick up if your comfortable doing this kind of stuff.

same happened to mine today but the damage is much worse.
If anyone has experience with repair options I'd love to hear about it.
I got mine on release day, and the guy in the store took their demonstrator to lunch and dropped it. Cracked the screen on the corner.
I replaced the screen on my Inspire and it wasn't too bad. I watched the video of replacing on the GN2 and it looked quite a bit easier, so I think you would be fine trying to replace yours. Good luck
Too funny. I did the same yesterday. Had it sitting on my wallet face down on the kitchen table and it slid. I caught it with my legs, rolled off my foot and hit the ground. About a 6 inch fall at most. Two big cracks and a chip. Two generations of notes, two broken screens Haha.
Have a square trade warranty and the phone actually functions like normal so there is at least that.

The problem is that I'm not sure if it's just the glass on the front that's broken, or the OLED/ touch panel itself (since I believe it is a single panel on this phone, right?), which is at minimum 200$ to order the part. I am entirely comfortable replacing it myself, though I don't want to pay that much if I can avoid it.
I'll take it to the Bell store tomorrow and see what they can do before doing anything else though.

If you can turn it on and see the OLED is providing images then its fine. The didgitizer is all you need to replace. The ifixit link is the best place to learn from. I replace screens on many phones and as long as you follow the golden rules your going to have a great repair experience.
1. Ask or search before you guess
2. NEVER EVER force anything. If it wont budge seems to require force. Check your sorce and ask first.
3. Double check all your connections
4. Keep a clean work space with plenty of light.
5. Stay geounded. (Usa a mat, strap, or whatever.)

Plus deductible of $200 I believe.

That's why I waited to buy from Best Buy, it's$10/mo, but no deductible. You might get a refurb if they can't fix it, but at least it is free.

They have 2 insurance options
1) $7.00 - Insurance Only
2) $10.00 - Insurance + Better CS + GPS Location Services
When I was in the store to change sim cards, the in store rep told me only the $10.00 was available. However, when I called into AT&T CS, they allowed me to chose just the $7.00 option. $200.00 deductible still applies.
I believe it was covered in a previous thread, but Best Buy insurance does not cover lost or stolen phones.
