Hi, yesterday i updated my KF2 (i think i was using powerpoint45's rom on version 6, i dont really remember it was a couple of moths ago) to the latest nightly of CM10.1 and, like the title says, my notification and navigation bar are missing.
I figure out probably was a problem with the nightly build, and I flashed another version, but I keep with the same problem. I tried with several revisions of powerpoint45, hashcode and CM official (even the most stable one) and I keep having this issue.
I already used TWRP to wipe cache, dalvik cache, system, factory reset and even SD card, mostly any option avaible except the one that wipes system and SD at the same time (because if i do that i wont have a ROM on my SD to flash or a system to download a new ROM from the internet)
I heard about Pie Launcher or something like that and I tried using swipe gestures to get it work, I even check settings > system and everything is activated as far as i can see (nav, notification, etc..). and obviously I disabled and enabled many times expand desktop.
I would really appreciate if someone can help me, because I use this tablet for my work :fingers-crossed:
Wipe data. Next time do a clean install and use titanium backup to backup your apps beforehand

Couldn't have been said any better, I had the same problem and I did what mindmajick suggested and now everything is working okay.

I have flashed a couple of roms...most recent being the new juggernaut. My lockscreen doesnt work...any idea as to why ? It is enabled through ROM Control as well.
You may have erased it when flashing. Do you at least get a clear lockscreen?

It's possible you disabled the lockscreen from one of the ROMs you may have installed. Sometimes settings carry over thru ROMs if you don't wipe carefully enough
re
Never disabled. Factory wipe and wipe dalvik cache always performed.
Do you ever use batch with Titanium? As in backup/restore
re
Never used titanium either.
Do you think it could be something to do with the internal SD Card ?
re
I formatted everything w no luck....any clue where i can get stock tmo rom ?
I just did my first custom ROM installment yesterday and well it was nice for a couple of minutes... All of a sudden my messaging and wallet app started force closing constantly every other 5 seconds. Along with something called android.process.acode (not sure if that's what it was called but it's what i remember).
Yes I backed up all my data (titanium pro and CWM), cleared cashe and dvalink or whatever the heck it's called. I then installed the ROM from zip and everything went smoothly, even installing GAPPS.
I was upgrading from stock 4.0.2. I'm not sure if i installed the correct version of GAPPS for it though so maybe that's the problem? Idk what else I should do, maybe just a new ROM?
Thanks in advance!
anyone? bump...........

Did you wipe dalvik and /cache only?
Need to wipe /data (factory reset) and /system (just for good measure) then re-flash your ROM/Kernel/Gapps

yes i did wipe data, forgot to mention that. I just found out it was because of the wrong version of gapps. Thanks anyways dude!
I've been successful rooting and flashing my phones to date, and would like to get closer to the edge, as it were, by flashing some nightlies. I enjoy the development process, and watching as small fixes take place, though the nightly process.
However, before I begin, I'm curious a little bit about the flashing and re-flashing process. Specifically, say I flash the latest CM10 nightly for my phone. Coming from whatever random ROM I've got on there right now, I'll definitely do some data wiping, factory resetting, cache wiping, etc. in order to ensure a clean install of the new nightly ROM.
Once I'd like to install the next nightly, should I repeat that wiping and resetting process, and in doing so, lose whatever account setup and customization I made (app installs, etc.), or is there a method of flashing a new nightly while keeping apps and other individual data I've accumulated in the process?
Thanks for all the guidance in advance!
I've recently come over to CM10 and here's what I did. I created a nandroid backup in CWM. I also backed up my apps in Titanium Backup. I use Apex Launcher, so I also backed up my desktop settings and launcher settings. Finally, I downloaded an app called sms backup and restore that backups up call history and text messages to my Gmail account as often as I set it to do so.
Once all my backups were in place, I used the cmupdater inside the ROM along with the goo.im app to download and install nightlies. The last three nightlies have been installed "dirty"...just flashed over the top of the old one, and re-flashed the gapps package I've been using. That process has been super easy and all my apps have still been there waiting for me after the update with no issues.
Today I dirty flashed the 10/10 nightly and immediately began having to SOD issues. At that point, I decided a full wipe was in order. I reset factory data, wiped cache and dalvik, and then re-flashed the nightly. Problem solved. I did have to go back in and restore my apps with Titanium and my text messages and call log with SMS backup after that, though. Start to finish, the whole thing only took me about 20 minutes.

I guess in short what I was saying is back up everything you want regularly and then go ahead and dirty flash nightlies on top of the old ones. If at some point you have an issue, that probably means it's time for a full wipe.
When it's time for a full wipe, you've got all your backups.

When you flash a newer nightly you don't have to wipe, but as the other guy said, if you run into issues you should wipe something. For example, say you get an SOD, start by wiping the cache and see if that helps. If that doesn't help, format system. If that doesn't work, then do a factory reset.

Alright. Just (dirty) flashed the 20121012 nightly so we'll see how it goes.
I wiped the cache just to be safe.

I flash a new nightly at least one a day, more of I'm trying a new ROM. With titanium pro there is no reason not to fill wipe every time. It takes ten minutes to setup correctly. Why risk it

Not sure if you are doing the install correctly
Lets review...
You run a Titanium Backup backup [or other app based backup not talking nadroid here].
You restart to recovery
Wipe cache
Wipe Dalvick Cache
Go to Mounts and storage [CWM] and format /System AND /Data
You go back to main menu
You Flash the ROM
You Flash GApps Pack [there is a 2013.01.08 I have seen that is specifically for 4.2 and not 4.1 BTW]
You restart and let it boot and wait at least 5 min before touching the phone
You then download and install Titanium Backup Open it, grant root
Then you Restored ONLY User apps and data [be sure to NOT RESTORE ANY SYSTEM APPS OR DATA]
This should have you running fine if this is your process.
If you are using TWRP and used the advanced backup/Restore to restore only /data by unchecking the other stuff this WILL NOT WORK it will restore the original /data and anything new your new install placed in /data will be removed and prolly why there is a problem.
If this is the only type of backup you now hoave if you download titanium backup pro [like $6 USD] then it as an advanced option can read out things from a nandroid backup done by either TWRP or CWM and restore apps based on the data there and the only way you should restore from that back DO NOT use TWRP to restore /data.
Basically TWRP images the entire partition and just puts that back exactly as it found it before whereas runnin titanium installs the apps back WITHOUT affecting anything that is new and already present [unless its a user app that exists in the backup and was installed by the ROM then you may end up with an older version, but then if that does happen don't panic open market and go to my apps [open market hit menu key tap my apps] and it should list any and all updates based on what is currently installed and can then update the affected app maintaing your user data that was restored by the titanium restore process., but it should warn about newer and older apps I believe.
TWRP method is good, but only if using same exact ROM and you had an issue [you deleted something wrong and caused a problem or otherwise need the data back EXACTLY as it was before, and disregarding any changes since].
Ok I did all that besides the go to mount part in recovery an when I reinstalled my user apps an data I rebooted back into recovery after it sat for an 5-10 min

Do the mount part and format both /system and /data. After restore to be absolutely thorough if you restart to recovery then have it wipe cache and dalvick cache one more time [should not be needed but may help].
You should ALWAYS format /system [and cache and dalvick cache] when flashing ANY ROM [ be it a different one or an updated version] and you really should do /data as well; though as long as it is a compatible ROM [JB to a different JB for instance] you may not need to wipe /data, but if you notice odd issues not helped by usual fixes [like my Swype stopped using the user dictionary and re-installing the app completely did not help only re-flashing my ROM and being sure to wipe both /system and /data and re-building from ground up [re-downloading my apps via market>My Apps [swipe My Apps screen to the left and there is a list with EVERY app you ever downloaded in the order it was downloaded which can help] fixed it [usually happens about once every month-ish little issues build until I can't stand one and format /data on an install]. Kinda personal pref on that, but if moving to a New ROM you really should try to do a Titanium backup and still wipe /data as ROMs do install some things there.
Ok I'll do that an thanks

Good day everyone.
I have successfully rooted my S3 1747.
I have done a backup after installing Rom manager. I also have a nandroid and titanium backup completed.
I would like to install cyanogen mod but its very important that I am able to get my contacts back.
I plan to install through the so called easy method in rom manager.
Am I able to get my stuff back after the install?
Thanks in advance
Most system app data will not be compatible. I don't know about CM, but in TW there's an option to export contacts to SD. It'll save them in a .CSV file. Maybe you can import them to CM contacts like this. Might want to confirm that first though.

Thanks for the reply. I'm going to do this later. Does cyanogen live up to the hype?
Everyone has their own preference. I personally like touchwiz better. There are plenty who would agree and disagree.
If you've got a nandroid backup of your current set up, its pretty easy to flash a bunch of different ones to see what you like, and then go back if none keep your interest.

You can use google to back up all contacts and restore them on any android with your google account on it....as for the install I believe our s3 is compatible with the cm installer

When you say cm installer. I assumes you are talking about the app and pc program that does everything automatically. It says my phone is compatible however wouldn't work originally. I had to root and use twrp. Can I use that to update from now on or should I continue to use twrp?

Edit - double post
Well for me cwm is the easiest to use as you just wipe and flash.....its purely up to you, if your gunna use twrp just download the zip boot recovery wipe system, cache, dalvik cache, data (factory reset), and hit install zip and bam you got cyanogen
I wouldn't wipe /system before a flash. If the rom fails to flash youll have no OS to boot into, and it can be a huge pain to get it back. If the rom does flash, its first step will be to format /system, so it gets done anyway.
I think this may be one of those things people used to have to do on some older devices, and was carried on to newer ones. I just think its an unneeded extra step, and more than a few times ended up taking a day or two to help people get their device working right again.

That's good advice that would have helped me a lot. All the instructions I followed online said to wipe/format everytime.
Sent from my SGH-I747M using Tapatalk
Yeah, its extremely common advice. I see it all the time. There are rare times when it is necessary to format system, but I dont feel a rom flash is one of them.
Its still possible to end up with no OS after a failed flash, but the chances are greatly decreased by eliminating that one step!
