I turn on wifi and it connects fine, I do whatever...I press the power button to put the phone to sleep but I didn't disable the wifi before doing this.
I turn the phone back on, but the phone doesn't connect to the wifi network. It waits for me to do some action that needs wifi. Anyone have this happening? I've had a few occasions when wifi doesn't even attempt to connect as well, but not very often.
I'm running the stock ATT rom for now. This type of operation never happened with my fuze with a stock rom.
I know there is a hack to enable wifi even when the phone sleeps, and I have not tried that yet. A question about that..does the wifi stay connected even when the phone is in sleep mode which would cause the battery to drain faster?
I'm sure I'll be flashing a rom at some point but would like to get past my 30 day window for returns before doing so.
Thanks again..
I am looking to buy the Nitro HD for WiFi only use and maybe occasional prepaid use. I will flash to some deodexed ROM or maybe CM9 so I am not so concerned about software issues in the stock ROM.
What I am more concerned about is - how are the cameras for Skype/Google Video etc?
Any way to turn off all radios except WiFi by default everytime the phone starts up?
Thanks.
^^bump^^
I'll chime in here, I use mine as a wifi only device. As far as Skype/google video goes, video calls are great. I don't have a Sim card in mine and the mobile settings are greyed out which I'm assuming the cellular is off.
I'm currently running the latest cm9 nightlies and the device keeps getting better and better.
Battery life is definitely better than gingerbread. Battery life is within reason for a device this powerful while on wifi. The only battery drain I've found is being out of range of a wifi area. It seems the device goes on over drive looking for wifi and within an hour, majority of your battery is dead. This might be a CM9 issue, I'm not sure on that. Just remember to turn off your wifi when out and about.
Thanks for the response. I got myself a used one for $200 today off Craigslist. Will put leaked ICS ROM on it
Looks much sweeter than my iPhone 4S!!
UP!UP!
The super screen is eye candy. Using wifi it will last for 5-7 hours, while using 3g only for 2-3 hours.
For these two reasons, i often use it only as WIFI.
Will somebody introduce a super airplane mode without shutdown of WIFI?

Get dx battery saver, put it into sleep mode, then activate wifi.

You don't need any special app. Just enable airplane mode, then enable wifi.

oh,no, it is a two-click thing with a wifi interruption.
We want a one-click button.

I got it!
If there is /system/etc/settings.xml, modify it about what is airplane mode (this is, remove “wifi” in the lines of "airplane-mode" ).

Don't forget reboots
Anyways, sold off my Nitro and moved on. Thanks for all the responses.
Traditionally I've read all over the place that turning Wi-Fi off when not in use is better for that battery but as of late, even here on XDA I've found people supporting the idea that it is better just to keep Wi-Fi running all the time rather then turning it on and off. I've been testing this for about a week now and have seen virtually no difference in my battery life. So I guess I just want to know what GNex users experience has been with this.
Only difference is that your phone will scan for networks once in a while.
Swiftkey'ed on my CM9 Galaxy Nexus
If you turn off WiFi network notification, there really isn't a big difference between leaving it on and off, as it won't be constantly scanning. If you're gonna be using WiFi several times off/on throughout the day and find yourself forgetting to turn it back on, just leave it running. But obviously turning it off can never be a bad thing, as long as you're capable of remembering to turn it on when you get back home and need WiFi.
I am out US on wifi only and there are a few issues i noticed. Im wondering if anyone else has the same problems.
1) If the phone is restarted it shows a full 4 bars when connected to wifi. Once the phone goes to sleep and has been sitting for a while then when I unlock the screen it says I have one bar and it performs that way. Toggling the wifi on and off has no effect the phone must be restarted to get the signal back strong.
2) The wifi reception overall generally seems weaker on my G than on other devices. In certain areas wife's Galaxy SII and my iPad both have signal of 2 bars and the G has nothing plus my G keeps disconecting from the wifi.
3) Power saving mode when the phone is down to the last 30% it turns off the wifi and turns on the LTE. Shouldnt it be the other way around!
Thx,
Mark
I am not rooted, original sprint rom etc
every time i put my stteing on vibrate it keeps on switching back on on its own, or it goes into ringer off mode,
same thing with the wifi it keeps on turning itself on/off by itself
any solutions???????????
Thank you
The wifi is from sprint connection optimizer. It turns it on when a steady connection is around. Personally i keep it on because I get much battery life just using wifi over 3g with 2 bars of connection since it struggles. But for the sound, I have no idea.. That's interesting..
anyone out there have any ideas how to resolve this?
