Hello XDA,
I am trying to root my new GT-N7100. I have had previous experience with Galaxy S3 and custom roms but with windows. I am trying to root my Note 2 with a mac book pro (heimdall method). I have followed every step carefully and dont seem to go anywhere. I followed steps from this link:
galaxynote2.com
The problem :
After I follow the last step (8 - Pressing UP+HOME+POWER), All I get is the Note 2 splash screen flashing as if there is a graphical glitch. The entire stuff just glitches up and down for a few times like a old TV and eventually the phone goes off, but the haptic feedback is active when I touch the keys besides home button so i am guessing the CWM recovery is working but just that there is nothing to see. Not sure what to do, any help is gladly appreciated.
Oh and another problem is that I get horrible static during any VOIP calls like Skype or Viber. Does anyone know whats the problem?
TIA,
findanish
Use windows only if you are new to android. Try using a friend's, neighbor's, cyber cafe computer. Heimdall needs experience. Or use virtual machine to install Windows trial like windows 8 enterprise evaluation

You're overcomplicating things. You don't need a Mac or a Windows machine, or ODIN or Heimdall to root your Note II. You don't even need a PC at all. All you need is Exynos Abuse.
Just make sure your handset is in good, working order, (i.e. - No bugs or goofy crap leftover from the failed rooting attempts.) and root using the Exynos Abuse *.apk from Chainfire. Just enable "Unknown Sources" in Settings > Security, and install the *.apk. Once it's installed, open it up and just click to root. It's that easy. All the relevant information, as well as the *.apk, is in the thread linked below.

Let me know if this helped. Take care and have a good one!

Thanks for the help guys!
After I rooted the device using ExynosAbuse.apk, it did say the device was rooted but when I go back to recovery to install a custom rom the same issue occurs where the entire screen goes bonkers. I have to shut the device down completely and restart it to get it back to normal state.
On a different note, when i head over to ODIN mode by pressing down+home+power, custom binary download : Yes (3 counts)
Not sure where to head.
Would a video of the problem help?
TIA

It looks like you may need to ODIN-flash back to stock. If you can get on a Windows machine, flash back to stock and then reroot. Once you do that, you can install your preferred custom recovery using MobileODIN. That should take care of you.

I sure will try that, but just a few questions.. Is unrooting not possible using a mac? If I use a windows machine, Do I need to download the original stock firmware from samsung-updates.com to begin with?
Will report back if I have any more issues.

That's assuming his recovery is the only thing ****ed up. MobileODIN is great; but it is entirely dependant on a fully functional device. If your device is having issues, using MobileODIN is just an unnecessary risk.

Hello again,
I am back with a bad news unfortunately. After I unrooted and wiped the entire phone to default Official Samsung rom using a windows 7 system (ODIN method). It successfully passed and I even got the stock recovery. But after i rooted it using ODIN with the latest CWM recovery, the same issue occurred. I am really disappointed with the way this phones acting, any help is greatly appreciated!

What official rom ur on? What version of odin ur using? Can u try root via exynos abuse apk rather than odin? Is unknown sources and usb debugging selected? Can u flash philz touch 3.81 cwm? Try doing the recovery flash via mobile odin.

Its the same issue once again
ExynosAbuse.apk did not help. Everything looks perfectly normal when i go through the rooting process but the moment i try to enter the recovery the screen jumps across and sometimes shows the GT-N7100 splash screen halfway and the phone just goes blank. I have to press and hold the power button a couple of times for the phone to restart.

Im still running the Whompasaurs rom. Its such a good rom I haven't ever been able to get away from it. Now that 4.4.2 is getting more TW roms, I had a few questions.
Im getting great performance from my Whomp rom, is the TW 4.4.2 roms any faster, or do they eat up more resources and are generally slower?
The only thing that's making me nervous about just doing it is the upgrade process. It sounds like unrooting to stock and taking the official sprint OTA to 4.4.2 is better for the phone, but I don't want any of that Knox crap on there. Can I just Oden to a custom 4.4.2? It looks like I can, but then I will need to flash the WiFi fix, correct? I see the info out there, but everywhere I have seen some of it mentioned, its kind of scattered throughout a few post or in different threads. I was kind of hoping to get an all in one answer so I didn't have any doubts or questions.
I use to be a heavy flasher, but once I got on Whomp, I haven't really been around much and I am kinda rusty. I don't have another phone to fall back on and want to make sure I'm not going to brick it.

Well you can jump to custom 4.4.2 without upgrading. First you need to backup your internal sdcard because it needs to be wiped for best results. In 4.4.2 the directory structure is changed and without wiping you will end up with two internal sdcard directories (one you wont see but it will take up a bunch of your space). As far as speed things will be just as fast on 4.4.2 unlike the crappy 4.3 we had before.
Needed files
1. Philz 6.07.9 recovery or cwm (twrp will not work)
2. Wifi fix for 4.3/4.4.2
3. Custom 4.4.2 rom
Steps
1. Connect to pc and backup internal sdcard
2. Flash philz (done with odin or in recovery)
3. Boot philz and backup current rom (backup to external sdcard because internal will soon be wiped)
4. Factory reset clean for new rom
5. Under mounts choose format /data and data/media
6. Reboot your recovery (very important) this will make philz create it needed directories (it will ask if you want to root ignore it)
7. After reboot flash your custom rom
8. Boot into download mode
9. Odin wifi fix
Phone will reboot automatically after wifi fix is flashed. Now you setup your rom. I suggest that you do not use a backup app to restore any apps or data. Download everything you can fresh from playstore. Many apps and their data has changed since 4.1.2 and will lead to major issues if restored.
Now one thing about custom 4.4.2 roms. They all have the S5 dialer which has a lag on first call after boot. If you place a call (to voicemail is fine) after every boot you wont have any problems till you reboot.

Cool. Now enjoy the new NE2 rom out there. FYI you can run any rom (tw 4.1-4.4.2 and aosp 4.1-4.4.4) without any changes. Only thing you should do is wipe your internal sdcard (in philz go to mounts.. format /data /data/media) when you flash a new rom and this will keep you from have some weird issues (also backup your internal data such as pics, vids, etc.. before you format).
Hi guys, i have a hard bricked i747 (Its swho as QHSUSB_DLOAD in pc). I was upgrading to stock 4.3 (it was 4.1.1) the odin file that I used was I747UCUEMJB_2024954_REV04_user_low_ship.tar.md5
I'm trying the debrick method via sd card, I download 3 debrick.img, but cant get it work. I tried to make the sd card in windows, and linux without luck (linux via virtual machine but ends the process correct, and as sd adapter I'm using a blackberry 8520) the micros sd is Kingston 16gb class4 (cant found any class 10 here)
So, any advice? I dont remember was topic is the debrick.img, but one of thes have this name debrick-SGH-I747U-CUEMJB3.img, is MJB like the odin tar that i was using. I use a USB JIG to try the download mode
So if someone have an advice, it would be greatly apppreciate.
Did you at least try several times with each image? It often doesn't work the first few times for some reason.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-T999 using Tapatalk
Yes, I did it a lot of times, in windows, and Linux (Lubuntu). I will keep trying and see if I can get a micro sd adapter because I'm using a blackberry 8520 as sd adapter. But in windows Win32diskImager finish the process, in Linux too so its seem thats is not the problem
Yeah, it'll finish, and it'll look like all is good but it still won't work sometimes. Really weird, I know. It could also be the sdcards you're using. Unfortunately I don't know of a way to tell this for sure....
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-T999 using Tapatalk
Still no luck u.u do you have a link for another debrick.img? for tha rom that i was flashing? :/
The part that matters is what version your base firmware (boot loader/modem/etc) is. Since it bricked after flashing 4.3, most likely only the 4.3, maybe a 4.4.2 image will work. enewman17 has a few you can try here: https://www.androidfilehost.com/?w=files&flid=15759
If nothing still works, there's probably not much you can do other than a JTAG service. Someone around here mentioned a good one for only $25, but I can't find the post....

No, the sdcard was in the phone all the time, i removed after first boot.
EDIT: I tried removing the sd card after boot in odin. Flashed the firmware (the same that I mention before) and still no luck. It will be ok if I flash a recovery and flash Kitkat bootloader? Or flash kitkat via odin? Or how about using a PIT?
Flash this with Odin.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2722660
If that doesn't work, you can try flashing with the pit file, let me know if you need one.
Which debrick.IMG are you using BTW? If its a 4.4.2 one, 4.3 firmware won't work. Also do not use the same 4.3 firmware as before since that's what caused the brick to begin with. And make sure you always remove the SD before flashing or you may have to start from the beginning again.
Can you link to where you got the file that bricked it?
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-T999 using Tapatalk
The debrick image has this name debrick-SGH-I747U-CUEMJB3.img. I downloaded from a debrick post. I have more debrick.img but thats the first that I used and works. The tar file that i used to flash, I have it for a long time, is the first time that cause that problem. I dont remember where I got it. I will download that file and try it. My internet is a bit slow, I will report back when I try it.
Sounds good. I just wanted to make sure it was an mjb image that worked.
Good luck!

I guess sometimes you just gotta live and learn. I first installed AOKP running android 4.4.2 on my Tmobile S3 SGH-T999(Non lte) about a month ago. The performance was fairly good and battery life seemed average, but it didn't have a custom kernel for overclocking/underclocking. I decided to use TWRP and flash Cyanogenmod 10.2.1 running android 4.3 so i can tweak the cpu settings and see if i get improved battery. I tried to do a factory reset but instead i formatted the sd card, losing all the content inside of it. The biggest issue i have though is that TWRP says i have no OS installed. I was wondering if i could use odin to flash the stock rom and get my phone up and running again. I already attempted to flash Cyanogenmod and AOKP but i kept getting an error. I found this article about how to use odin to flash the stock firmware on my s3: http://www.technobezz.com/flash-stock-rom-via-odin-samsung-galaxy-s3/. I was wondering if this method would work? if not what are my options? I will appreciate any help.

I have a SM-T310, wifi only. Forgive me please, I do not understand the vernacular for Androids. I've owned this PDA for about three years and just flashed it.
I installed TWRP. I rooted it. I put CM13 (Cyanogenmod Marshmallow) on it. It has some issues that makes me want to revert back to 4.4.2. I have unrooted it.
I have tried using ODIN and a downloaded 4.4.2 to revert back to stock, but ODIN fails. Help? Does it need to be rooted to go back to stock?
The primary purpose of this tablet is to watch movies. I throw MP4 files onto an SD card, stick the SD card in there, and enjoy. CM13 doesn't like to handle SD cards that way, and the only way I can figure out how to watch the movies is through File Manager which messes with the aspect ratio, and gives no playback features. VLC doesn't recognize the MP4 files on the SD card, and it takes too long to transfer the files to the tablet.
Help?
Edit: I've tried to re-root my tablet, but it fails. I've tried Kingoroot both APK and Windows. Doesn't work. So, now I'm stuck...
Anyone? Am I supposed to flash the stock ROM through TWRP? Help? Please?

No you flash it through Odin. Did you get it from sammobile.com/firmwares/ ?
It could be just a bad download, maybe re-download and try again. Also, Odin is finicky about which usb cable you use, you might need to try a different one.

It is the same cable I successfully used to initially put Marshmallow on it. I've tried using Kingoroot both the APK and the Windows App but failed each time. I also tried multiple downloads including the one you mentioned. I guess I may just be stuck with it...
