Ok, here's my biggest gripe about my One. It's a friggin pain to turn on. I have kernel mods with Home2Wake AND volume keys to wake. And it's STILL a pain to wake the device because the hardware buttons take a second to locate and press. I'm looking for a case that makes those hardware keys stand out and do some of the physics for me. Any suggestions? I'm using a TPU case and a the Supcase Hybrid now. Both are lackluster IMHO.
Try the OtterBox Commuter case. The volume buttons are raised, while there is a "cutout" for the power button so it's easy to find without looking.
I'm coming from a Motorola atrix, which had the recessed finger print scanner. My One is far easier to turn on. How far would you like the button to stick out on the sleek styling of this device for you to be happy? Any case with a larger power button cover will also block the IR blaster
My suggestion is to simply get used to your new device.

The only problem with the Commuter is the thickness added I would try a thinner case like diztronic or cruzerlite

Agreed. The Otterbox would defeat my purpose, I'll look in to the Diztronic one. Ideally I'm looking for something like the Poetic Borderline (though it's getting terrible reviews). Minimal coverage, but with raised buttons. I get you on the IR blaster concern, but I'll never use that feature, so it's not an issue for me.
Poetic
I provided feedback about accentuating the power button to Poetic and received the following:
"We appreciate your feedback and we'll see if we can implement them in future cases as our updated case is already in production."
Ping all the other manufacturers before they ramp up production!

Hey OP, I'm looking into buying the SUPCASE Hybrid for my HTC One. How does it fare? Are the black/white edges of the case a TPU flexible material? Or silicone, or rubber? I'm debating between this and the Poetic Borderline case. This is obviously cheaper at $7 whereas the other one was $13. What are the differences really between the two?
I use the HTC flip case and use the proximity sensor to imitate the iPad smart cover. Close the case? Phone turns off. Open the case? Phone unlocks and turns on.

The SUPCASE is TPU around the border I believe. The clear plastic back is very minimal and seamlessly integrates in to the edges of the TPU. However, the buttons are barely raised, making the already hard to press volume and power buttons that much more frustrating. It also blocks the IR blaster if that's important to you. The Poetic line is much more attractive IMO with the combination of colors, but I haven't tried it out in person.

After reading a few threads here about the best case, I decided that I will purchase a TPU case (clear smoke argyle). I was looking at ebay and see the same item/design by these 2 sellers. One is $3.87 other is $7.49. Anyone know what the difference between these 2 is?
http://cgi.ebay.com/ws/eBayISAPI.dll?ViewItem&item=370473226743 - $3.87
http://cgi.ebay.com/Argyle-Smoke-Flexi-Skin-Cover-Samsung-Vibrant-T959-/310291583683 - $7.49
There is another for $6.95 it says that it comes in a retail package, where as the first one it says it's "generic." Looks the same to me in the pictures.
http://cgi.ebay.com/SMOKE-Argyle-So...617919?pt=PDA_Accessories&hash=item255d54a37f
Any help? Oh, and I looked around a lot, but wasn't able to find one without the argyle pattern that is also clear smoke. (didn't like the hybrid one too much). Anyone away of any such case?
Thanks!
I bought a smoke case from accstation and it seems to fit well, but the case is so rigid that the case over the power and volume keys make it very hard to press the keys. After some careful stretching they seem to work well enough, at the aesthetic expense of those small areas of the case. I also bought a similar Purple TPU case from post3rs on Ebay. It seemed to have the same issue over the power and volume buttons. I've dropped the vibrant on concrete from 4 feet 3 times with that case and so far it's saved me, and i'm considering cutting out the power + volume with a razor knife.......... Not sure how some of the more pricey cases compare in this arena but it's worth mentioning my experience.
i think they are all the same cases, but rustychiles is right, its extraordinarily rigid making the buttons hard to press, i would recommend that "best case" over the argyle one since its far easier to press the buttons, on the other hand, it is a nice looking case
also, to rustychiles, don't cut out the buttons, they will become recessed and much harder to press, i tried that with a cheap silicone case cause i didnt like it and i was curious too, it doesnt work
Thanks for the reply guys.

Got it, thanks. I ended up going with the TPU argyle case. Not a big fan of the pattern, but I like the feel of TPU more than the hard plastic in the hybrid version.
be sure to give us your review on it when you get it!
btw, is it a hard cover or soft cover?
Ok, will do. It's a TPU case, so I think the feel of it will lie somewhere between soft silicone and hard plastic. Just the way I like it -semi soft or semi hard, depends on how you look at it.

Get the cheapest one you can get because you are going to have to cut out the buttons anyway. I have 2 of the TPUs and they are the best cases out there. Both of the TPUs were the same materials and the buttons are so hard to press you have to cut them out, which I did. I highly recommend TPUs.
I have 5 other types of cases (non-TPU) like Gel, etc and I can say that TPU offers the best combination of protection and feel. It doesnt catch lint in your pockets like other types do. I dropped it many times and no scratches whatsoever.

Update: Instead of cutting out the case over the power and volume buttons I heated up a flat head screwdriver with a flame and gently thinned out the TPU case over the power and volume buttons by gently melting and stretching the case and couldn't be happier with the results. The cases don't melt the way you want them to, and aesthetically I could probably do better next time by using a hot surface the same size as the area I am stretching but it doesn't look that bad and it's as functional as I'd like it to be now.
Don't cut the case! As someone else said, it makes the buttons recessed and hard to press. Take a small piece of tape and place it on the insides of the case, under the power and volume buttons. Works a lot better.

i agree, TPU is one of the best cases. i first got a TPU case for my iphone 3g and i loved it so much that when i bought my vibrant i got the exact same case for it
after the first day, i also learned that the buttons couldn't be pressed so i had to take an x acto knife to cut the holes out. now its not so bad
LOL @ cutting / blowtorching the cases... i used the tape method.

Revision 2 of the Diztronic TPU cases didn't have a volume cut out. They've been selling Rev 3 for a while now but if you emailed them asking to buy a Rev 2 case they would probably sell you one (or maybe even send you one for free). They had great customer service when I had to contact them.
I just bought the SGP Ultra Capsule case. It's TPU and it covers volume and power buttons but it also covers the 3 pin dock connector if that's a problem with you. It's very good quality and shows the contour and shape of the actual phone.

I never understood why they preffer to leave the 3 pin dock connector uncovered. I don't even know what that's for... I never saw a dock for it, lol.
-----
@OP
I have a TPU case that covers the volume rocker and the power button. It has cut outs for the 3 pin dock connector, the microUSB port, the primary AND secondary microphone, and 3.5mm jack. It's mostly known as S-LINE, but lately I found it as being made by CUBZ (or at least so it was advertised). It has kind of an S line on the back. The side edges are also rubbery which makes it feel good in the hand, and less prone to accidental drops.
I had this kind of case on my previous HTC EVO 3D, and it was awesome. It fitted better than the MOMAX (because the MOMAX one didn't have a cut out for the camera button, hence making that pretty much useless, + weakened the right side).
I also had this model on my Galaxy S2, and given the construction and shape of that phone, it was freaking awesome! Barely could take it off!!!!!
I had a black one on my Galaxy Nexus, but it was... I dunno if Google translated this right... sprawling? Mostly due to the way it was stored - the sides were somewhat off...
I have a white one now, which is pretty much rigid. In one month, it got off-white, haha. Yellows, grays, blues... it's still white, but not really white, if you know what I mean.
Anyway, I'm gonna buy a new one, BLACK, and try to find one that hasn't been stored under a rock or something .
These S-Line cases seem to be the best, if you ask me. And for that price... I mean... you can't ask for more, really. I even saw them on eBay (for other phones, not necessarily this model), for some pretty darn good prices.
-----
Otherwise, if you have money to spend, buy a Otterbox Commuter. That's the best case ever, if you ask me. It's not THAT hefty, but it's very well built, and rigid, too.
Hi guys, I want to buy a new case and have narrowed it down to these two cases. I just need it for scratch protection and maybe minor drops. My questions are: which of these two cases fits better with the official extended battery, and which of these two cases is slimmer? Thanks
If you plan are running it with an extended battery then the diztronic for sure. The Ultra Hybrid wont fit right.
Just to make sure, I have the i9250M version which I will be running with the 2000mAh extended battery. That will not fit perfectly with the Ultra Hybrid, correct?
Someone posted pics of the case on his LTE galaxy nexus + 2100 mah battery.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?p=26895098
I know that you have the GSM version with the 2000mah battery. It is a little slimmer, but I suspect similar results. Perhaps not as bad, but still. It will go on the phone, but the sides will not completely cover.
BTW the ultra hybrid is on sale from the official site. I have the GSM + extended also and might buy one anyways and try to bend out that plastic part. The thing that makes the "hump" in the back.

The back piece feels like hard polycarbonate, you might have to heat it up to change the shape. It's going to be difficult to make it look good.
That's what I'm thinking. $13 is somewhat cheap enough to mess around with it. The website is OOS on the black one now, so I guess I won't be doing this anymore.
Diztronic is where's it at. I'm also using the 2100mAh battery, fits perfectly.

Nah it fits, just not as perfectly as the original battery but the case won't fall out or looks weird.
There's just a little gap on the bottom of the camera cutout and the edge near the volume and on/off buttons doesn't go up all the way.

Hmm...I did not know that the GSM with EB is slimmer than the LTE with EB. I saw those pictures earlier, and the fact that the phone bulges out on the sides bothers me a lot. Does anyone know how much slimmer the GSM variants is to the LTE (both with EB)?
I have the Dizitronic case (among others) and primarily use it when I am not doing anything 'active'. Its definitely slim and looks good. Fit on it is great (GSM with standard battery). For $10, its a great purchase.
For what its worth, it is slim enough to also be used with a leather belt pouch as well.
Haven't used the SGP but it looks very nice as well.
i really wanted to keep the ultra hybrid but the really high sensitivity of the power button was a dealbreaker. just a light brush over the power button would turn the device on.

If you're handy with small tools, it's pretty easy to adjust the stub inside the case where the button is, and make it less sensitive. A dremel tool with a tiny sanding wheel, or a dental drill when your dentist isn't looking , will do the trick. Or even some small hand tool to carve away some of it could work.
I was taking a few unintended screenshots the first week until I adjusted both the power button and the volume buttons.

The Cimo is useable (volume rocker wise) by cutting a few strips of vinyl electrician's tape about 2x3 mm wide. Easiest way is to lay the tape on a cutting board and cut into 2mm wide stripes with a razor knife, then cut each strip again, about 3 mm long. I stacked three on top of each other using tweezers. These get applied on the inside of the case where each button hits, closer to the outer part just past the middle. The idea is to touch the buttons on the phone with the back (non sticky side) of the tape about three quarters way from the edge of where the buttons meet. You can adjust the sensitivity by the number of layers you use. Too sensitive and you may activate accidentally. At two or one layers you may not feel much better sensitivity than stock.
This "mod" makes the case a viable contender, IMO. You can do this with any case and it does not permanently change the case as slitting one side of the button material like some suggest. That particular mod does not work well with this case.
Amazon used to be my go-to place for phone cases, but Ebay actually has a way nicer selection, imho. A lot of them are super cheap from Hong Kong, which is a little shady... But I've been having good luck with the quality that I've been receiving from them and at ridiculous prices ($5 w/ free shipping, etc.)
It's definitely worth some digging and will save you the trouble of TRYING to spend $25 for free shipping on Amazon. :silly:

This is probably my favorite of the bunch:
http://www.amazon.com/Diztronic-Mat...=1378056557&sr=8-1&keywords=htc+one+diztronic
If it had the shiny back of the Cimo it would be five stars, IMHO.
The lip is protective enough to survive a decent drop on pavement and it's not bulky at all.
The next step up (IMO) would be the speck candyshell line. They will give protection on the same order as the Otterbox Commuter without as much bulk. The Otterbox does plug the microUSB and headphone jack, however which helps keep them dust free if you pocket carry outdoors, for example.
I wish most of the tpu/rubbery cases didn't have that "frost" texture it's so annoying that almost all of them have it, I'd be happy with the diztronic but that camera cut is too ugly to let slide for my tastes

Hi All,
I am a S7 Active owner since launch day and really love the phone. Just curious if anyone is running a case or bumper-style case on the phone? I know the rubberized coating on the perimeter of the phone does a decent job, but if I could find something slim and good looking I may consider it just to protect from scuffing the perimeter and screen/back.
Chris
Cimo case here. love it. was getting rid of old phone stuff and came across some apple stickers; had to do it lol. nice slim tight fit, love it. also got glass screen protector which i highly suggest as the screen is polycarbonate plastic on top and WILL scratch easily.

Got a otterbox for it. The holder kinda sucks which can let the phone fall out in extreme situations and turns the phone into a bulky cumbersome brick but a indestructible cumbersome brick.
I am a case addict and have a case for every scenario:
Otterbox Defender for extreme scenarios.
BodyGuardz case for medium/heavy duty protection.
Body Glove for kickstand use.
SUPCASE UNICORN BEETLE for grip and fitted case (best all around). Pics below.
S5 Seidio holster for naked use.
Holster used with SUPCASE is the Note 4 Seidio holster.

Thanks for sharing folks, keep 'em coming if you run a case.
Nope, going nude

Personally I've been running the Poetic Affinity Case. Its slim and adds just a smidge of protection. I take it off from time to time just to show people that my phone is not an S7 with a crazy case on, though, haha.

Got a otterbox for it. The holder kinda sucks which can let the phone fall out in extreme situations and turns the phone into a bulky cumbersome brick but a indestructible cumbersome brick.

Seems I was wrong about the otter box belt case slipping out, if you put it in the exact way it wants you too it stays in no problem though it's not the most convenient position for sure

This.
I will be doing liquid screen protection, since I did my homework and read the countless reports of the overlay being prone to scratches. Beyond that, I might do a skin for the back/sides, but the phone seems bulky enough without adding a case.
I have a Poetic Affinity but rarely use it, I love way the phone feels without a case.

Ordered one for mine a few days ago off Amazon. It was made by zizo, I'll link it when I get home. Definately feels like a durable phone but being an avid outdoorsman in Alaska... I'd rather throw an extra layer on it than not.

What do you guys think of the bolt cases?
I don't see myself using a case very often but it might be good for hiking/ hunting.

Cimo case here. love it. was getting rid of old phone stuff and came across some apple stickers; had to do it lol. nice slim tight fit, love it. also got glass screen protector which i highly suggest as the screen is polycarbonate plastic on top and WILL scratch easily.

You should have put the apple sarcastically "up side down" at least!

I am also using the SUPCASE UNICORN BEETLE and love it! Best all around case, so much so that I don't even look around any more! Easy to hold, great protection - front, back and edges, and slips in and out of my pockets without a lot of hassle!
I just went simple - TGSP and a clear TPU cover - "Fosmon DURA-T Slim TPU Back Cover Case". Paid less than $10 off amazon for both. The phone is sufficiently rugged on its own for my purposes, it was more about keeping it from looking like it went through a war zone.
What I particularly like about TPU covers is that they slide in and out of my pocket easily. nothing to grab my clothes with.
2 co-workers got the S7 active after I did - one had no intention of using a screen protector nor a case, but he's gotten some "microscratches" and is reconsidering. The other has gotten a couple very light scratches while waiting for the TGSP to come in, again from amazon.
Just next day'd " Samsung Galaxy S7 Active Case, Zizo [Bolt Series] " off Amazon (it looked the most rugged and thats what i was looking for) comes in tonight and I will try to write an update if I get a chance.
Got the case in, it's definitely rugged.
Audio jack is right next to the hanger clip which may make it difficult to insert head phones, but I only use blue tooth so that doesn't affect me.
The screen sealed on nice and over all the case fit real snug. I like it as of right now but will try to update once it goes through it's first real impact.... hopefully it does it's job.

Weird, all my buttons are easy to push... Maybe there is some accuracy issues in production? Because all these buttons are easier to push then the Defender series I had on my other phones.
Maybe the rubber button over the power button just needs to be broken in a little. Try taking the case off and pressing the button in and out a few times to make sure it is pressing easily and then placing it back on.
So far I really like this case... its holding up well for me and its really easy to grip... personally I thought I wouldn't like the lanyard that came with it... but now I keep it on at all times and it keeps me from misplacing my phone so often.
