[REF] Porting 2.1 (JM8) Samsung Keyboard to 2.2 (JPK)

Tools needed: smali, baksmali (google them), a JDK, and an extracted factoryfs.rfs from an éclair ROM.
(If you don't have a linux machine to mount an .rfs file to a directory never forget that your device has linux on it, so it can actually mount the .rfs file to a directory)
First collect the files you need from factoryfs.rfs:
/app/AxT9IME.apk
/app/AxT9IME.odex
/lib/libXt9core.so (this is actually the same file that's inside the apk)
/lib/libDHWR.so
/framework/android.policy.odex
/framework/core.odex
/framework/ext.odex
/framework/framework.odex
/framework/services.odex
Copy all the odex files into the same directory as baksmali is. Disassemble it with:
java -jar baksmali.jar -x AxT9IME.odex
This should create an out directory, with the disassembled, and deoptimized files. Now reassemble them, with smali:
java -jar out
This should create an out.dex file. Rename it to classes.dex, and put it into the AxT9IME.apk (don't be fooled by the extension, it's a simple zip file)
Now copy the following files to your phone:
AxT9IME.apk --> /system/app
libXt9core.so --> /system/lib
libDHWR.so --> /system/lib
Remove the following files:
/system/app/AxT9IME.odex
/system/lib/libdhwr.so (this is lowercase. The above was uppercase. Case does matter!)
Now try to enable the samsung keyboard. If everything goes well then you can now use the old keyboard.
-----
Alternatively if you needed the keyboard from the XWJM8 version, you can download the result files from here: http://android.sztupy.hu/dl/SamsungKeyboardFroyo.zip
Thank you
can I use this method in order to replace framework.jar/framework.odex from another build?
JHJP4 support proper BIDI (for Hebrew/Arabic and other RTL languages)
And how do we do the opposite? Want 2.44 on eclair =)
Should work the same

No, framework.jar is too much different between eclair and froyo. You can only port simple applications (in /system/app) this way.

It would only work if the new keyboard doesn't use anything FroYo specific (like gesture support, or enhanced multitouch support). If it does use froyo specific api functions it will break under eclair.

Both frameworks are from Froyo
just different version
JP4 framework has proper BIDI support

If framework.jar changes then all pre-optimized files (odex) have to be reoptimized (the same way as the tutorial above shows), and even after that it might not work...
hi can I ask a few questions. I don't know much about these complicated things, but I will try my best.
can we collect files you asked us from factoryfs, through root explorer.
you asked to copy file with capital letters to phone and then asked to remove same file name with small letters. can one directory have two files with same name?
and finally how would we copy files to the phone?
thanks.

You can use rootexplorer to transfer the files to /sdcard modify them on the PC, tran transfer them back from /sdcard to their location.
thanks I really appreciate your help can I ask you another simple question. I have downloaded jdk.
and installed it. how do I use these commands to disessemble, java jar. is there any special java prograame. thanks.
thanks v much. problem solved. ported urdu keyboard from eclair to jpk. thanks again.
How do I know which files from /lib do I need to replace?
I'm trying to use contacts apk from other froyo rom
So, I tried the above instructions, and all I get is errors with bksmali, but i get the out directory, then when I run smali, it get another bunch of errors, but no out.dex. Any help would be amazing.
I haven't tried any of this other than trying to just install the AxT9IME.apk which obviously didn't work. I can enable it but trying to switch to it or access its settings instantly resorts in a force closure.
What I don't think I've seen mentioned is whether or not the end result of this allows you to have both the 2.2 and the 2.1 keyboards. Could anyone clarify for me if you get both or just the 2.1 keyboard in the end?
Lastly, would it be possible for someone to write an app (downloadable via market) for this keyboard for any android version? Because that'd be pretty awesome.
It'd be nice if it didnt create an app-drawer icon, but I wouldn't mind as Go Launcher allows me to hide unwanted apps.
I honestly like the 2.2 keyboard, but the 2.1 one (with its 4 pages) has symbols in on it that I have seen no where else, which is pretty cool and why I'm wanting it.

Programatically set default file associations

In windows 8, programs "cannot" set themselves as the default to open a file. As a programmer, I want my power over the computer, so I have found a way to change the associations.
The "user choice" of the default file handler is located in the key
HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\[extension here]\UserChoice
Unfortunately, this key is protected by some mystery hashing algorithm that incorporates the extension, your user account, and the program in some convoluted way.
Fortunately, we can, of course, set the default file handler by brutally deleting the other file handlers with extreme prejudice, making windows think that your program is the only available program capable of opening that type of file, thereby making it default.
These are located in:
HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Explorer\FileExts\[extension here]\OpenWithList
HKCR\[extension here]\OpenWithList
How to:
1-set your program as "default" the normal way, as you would in windows 7.
2-delete the OpenWithList keys located in HKCU and HKCR, and if necessary, the UserChoice key.
3-???
4-Profit
If you use this process, please post feedback so that I know it works. When I get around to it, I will write a program as an example.
cool thanks work form me
Thank you for sharing this information. It pointed me in the right direction.
To not let the users continually shift between the desktop and the default Store Apps (Metro applications), we want to start all images and videos in the desktop programs.
It didn't work on our versions of Windows 8 Pro. HKCR\[extension here]\OpenWithList was empty or it didn't exist. The solution for me was:
1) change as needed: HKCU\Software\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Exp lorer\FileExts\[extension here]\OpenWithList
2) remove all the keys beginning with 'AppX' for the desired file extensions in [HKEY_CLASSES_ROOT\[extension here]\OpenWithProgids]
If the user can use a virtual registry, you probably need to delete it for the elevated administrator and the user.
The keys beginning with AppX are the links to the Store Apps.
(Do not forget to backup registry keys before making changes)
All the extensions for video and images:
.3g2, .3gp, .3gp2, .3gpp, .aac, .adt, .adts, .AIF, .AIFC, .AIFF, .ASF, .ASX, .AU, .avi, .bmp, .dib, .gif, .jfif, .jpe, .jpeg, .jpg, .jxr, .M1V, .m2t, .m2ts, .M2V, .m3u, .m4a, .m4v, .MID, .MIDI, .mod, .mov, .MP2, .MP2V, .mp3, .mp4, .mp4v, .mpa, .MPE, .mpeg, .mpg, .mpv2, .mts, .png, .RMI, .SND, .tif, .tiff, .TS, .TTS, .wav, .WAX, .wdp, .wm, .wma, .wmd, .wms, .wmv, .WMX, .wmz, .WPL, .WVX
I hope this information can helps someone.

If you read the thread title, you would realize that this is referring to programmatic modification of default associations. MS "prohibits" programs from modifying the default file associations, so this is a valid workaround.

[Q] Question to developers ?

Hi,
I am trying to create a theme for Note 2 with Note 3 mods. I am currently using DN3 v3 rom.
These are my questions :
1. I would like to know where installed apps from play store keeps there icons "I want to change them"
2. Where are all the stock apps "pre installed apps" located ?
3. Do i need to do any xml programming when replacing the app icons ?
Please tell me the path to those locations if you know it :fingers-crossed:
Each app is an apk file, and it contains icon(s). So there is no central place where all icons are stored.
the best you can do is to create an iconpack theme. just download one (it is apk file as well) and see how it's done. apk's are just signed-zip files, so you can open them (unzip) with any app like winzip or total commander (it is harder putting it back together). There are a lot of iconpacks available, just google it.

Those are shared object library, containing functions other programs can call, you can disasemble them to see the assembly code, but i can't see a big interest in that...

Change Mi A1 camera watermark manually

This is Vasu Netha and What's going on everybody!!
Here is a short demo on how to change default camera watermark to your own.
Requirements
Rooted device
Root explorer (any of your wish, like es file explorer)
Any image editor (I recommend Adobe Photoshop in your PC. Or else any mobile image editor like picsart may work)
Some Patience
Step wise Instructions
give root permissions to your file manager (In my case, I used es explorer)
Navigate to System/etc/ and find dualcamera.png file
Copy the file and paste somewhere else in your device (for sake in storage/emulated/0/Download ). We are going to use it as a reference image on which we should work later
Open the file u saved (in this case in Download folder) in Adobe Photoshop or whichever editor you like.
This is where actual purpose comes in, put your creativity in it and edit the image as you like.
*Important notice DONT CHANGE PICTURE SIZE OR RESOLUTION & SAVE THE IMAGE IN PNG FORMAT
Rename the file to dualcamera.png
Copy your edited file and paste it in system/etc/
Overwrite the existing file and change the permissions to rw-r--r--
Voila!! you have done it
Reboot your phone, open the camera app, enable watermark & see the changes
Hit thanks :good: if it works for you
Check my custom watermark in the attachments section.
