Samsung Galaxy S3 (USA, T-mobile) brick & binary counter - T-Mobile, Samsung Galaxy SIII

AOk so I was attempting to root my Sisters gs3 (us, T-mobile) and I bricked it but luckily I still can unbreakable it. I'm currently downloading the firmware file for my specific device so using Odin all will be fine but I recently found out that Samsung devices such as the Samsung Galaxy s 3 keeps track of how many times you flash or even root the device. Now I still want my sis to have her warranty so I can easily unroot her s3 is there a way reset the binary counter with out having to knock the bootloader?

TriangleAway. Play Store. Buy it.

Will do thanks.

+1 on TriangleAway. it is very effective piece of script and money well spent.
here is my suggestion based on my experience.
after you run TriangleAway, go into download mode. you will see something like this;
ODIN MODE
PRODUCT NAME: SGH-T999
CUSTOM BINARY DOWNLOAD: No (If you didn't run TriangleAway, you will see this as "Yes [# Count] ")
CURRENT BINARY: Custom
SYSTEM STATUS: Custom
QUALCOMM SECUREBOOT: ENABLE
in order to completely unroot and return for warrenty,
1) Run TriangleAway to reset Binary counter to "0"
2) Flash Official firmware for your S3 via Odin (this will reset your current Binary to "Official" instead of "Custom"
3) go into stock recovery (official stock firmware recovery) and do Factory reset and wipe Cache. (this will reset your system status to "Official" instead of "Custom"
easy as 1,2,3... I hope this help..

For about the same price as the Triangle away you can buy a JIG on eBay for less than $3.00 shipped.
That not only put's the phone into download mode but as soon as you are in download mode
you can unplug it and restart the phone and there will be no more triangle.
With the jig there is no need to install any apps of any kind.

USB jig doesn't reset the counter on the s3. Triangle away is the best option. It's free on xda. But supporting the developer is definitely worth doing.

Take it back to T-Mobile. Play dumb. Make sure everything is back to stock of course. If the phone won't turn on at all and you're sure its not a battery, even better. They will overnight a new phone to you. Done and done. No hassling with a jig. Just sleep and wake up and your phone will drop out of the sky via FedEx.
+Cool story, bro!
+If I've helped, hit the "Thanks" button. It's free!

Of course it resets the binary counter, I have had a jig for over 3 years now.
I have a S3 and had it for over a year now and nothing is as easy as using
a jig for resetting the counter or just getting the phone into download mode.

Can someone please help me!!!!! I received a new Note 2 from Tmobile and have to return my other one. I rooted it and I used triangle away but when I look it still says I have 1 count and custom. I trianged away again then I unrooted the phone and went to odin mode and flashed back to stock. I had to go through all the updates to make it current. I check the binary counter and it said 0 count and official. So I unmounted my sd card and removed it and did a factory reset to clear all my phone contacts and info. Well when I did that my phone got stuck in boot load. I took the battery out and pushed the home volume down and power buttons. I get a binary count of one and custom. What did I do wrong? I can't afford to pay $150.00 for this phone. How do I keep the binary count to 0 and official?

Try asking in the note 2 q&a thread instead of the galaxy s3 thread.

[Q] Anti Flash Counter

When you use a USB Jig to reset the flash counter, will it trip the anti-flash counter?
i actually don't think the jig works to flash our device's counter. I remember i read that somewhere, not sure where.. it was a month or two ago. The only use we have for it now is to get into download and hopefully saving our phones from softbricks.. but the flash counter remains the same.

If you're not sure then why offer advice ? I can confirm the jig works for both download and counter reset. AllGamer has confirmed this also in the same thread as me.

Why !!!!
That file is not for your phone bro hence the SGS3 filename. You need to find the stock ODIN tar for your phone and hope you can get it into download mode to flash it.
Hey wondering what's all this binary count people keep talking about. Is it a number than can tell Samsung and companies that you hacked your phone?? Just wondering haven't hacked my phone..won't for a while don't want to brick such a expensive phone. This is coming from a dude who hacked all previous androids

when I run this in Terminal emulator...4 bytes changed...
LMAO...counter 808482908
I never could get Triangle Away v2.37 to clear counter, when I run that app, it cleared counter and showed 0 in app,but...
A) when I check in Boot mode volume down , home, power.. it would always show 1
B) and when I reboot Cell, and run Triangle Away it shows counter 1
Can anyone explain if Triangle Away actually works, or what i did wrong!
strange findings, i actually saw counter = "NO" meaning 0 for 1 time, then checked again and back to 1, somehow It actually worked for 1 prompt after reboot (but won't stay with 0)...SMH
STOCK ROM with lots of files (.apk's) Removed and mods (framework-res.apk, SystemUI.apk, etc) added, STOCK KERNAL untouched

are u running jelly bean Rom? if so I think is has something to do with that I have the same issue.. use TA and it shows "0" reboot and it show "1" however I did odin back to ICS Stock rooted and the app work fine and then I updated to Lastet Jelly bean and the "1"returned.. so My guess is if u need to take or if I ever need to take my phone for a repair I might have to flashed a stock rooted ICS Rom...
Excellent info, very smart, your right...
Great Solution...Just accept counter at 1, if ever have to return into DEALER, then go back to ICS with 0 counter.
Thank you so much Mr_Jay_jay, problem solved!
yes I'm on JB 4.1.1

[Q] Unroot Galaxy S3 mobile odin. Unique problem Charging port broken

I've done my fair share of searching and I couldn't come up with much so I strongly believe I have a unique problem. I hope someone can point me in the right direction
Im have a rooted GS3 747 running Paranoid Android. A couple days ago the phone wouldn't charge. I tried different cables and batteries and after some testing with other GS3's I realized that my phone's charging port was broken. As a result I couldn't even connect my phone to the computer to unroot it with odin. I want to unroot so I can send in the phone for repair under warranty. So I downloaded mobile odin pro and proceeded to unroot my phone. I copied the original rogers rom to the external sd, followed the instructions and started the process. Everything looked like it was going fine until I got stuck on the samsung screen. Did some more research and learned that I had to do a factory data restart by booting into recovery mode. Did that. By now I'm feeling pretty good about all this. I followed the instructions all the way and I'm thinking that I'm gonna get a stock phone shortly. Wrong! The phone was still stuck on the samsung screen.
Now since I cant connect my phone to the PC cuz the charging port is broken I dont know what to do. I would have just flashed Clockwork Mod like I did when I first rooted and started all over but I cant.
If no one has a solution then Im just thinking of sending it in as is. Maybe they wont be able to see that the phone is rooted since they wont be able to connect it their PC without swapping out the motherboard to fix the problem.
I should add that I went to a repair store to try and fix it and they told me that the only way would be swap out your mobo.

You will want to be sure that your flash counter says 0. This can be found by entering download mode (vol down, home, power) and you will see "custom binary count". that is how they will tell that you have rooted. Have you entered recovery and done a factory reset to get past the boot screen? If you can full wipe/ factory reset and get back into Android, I recommend you use "triangle away" app to clear your flash counter.

Ya I entered recovery and did a factory reset but nothing. Really cant do anything with charging port broken.

[Q] I made a mistake, now my phone is down...

...would someone be wiling to help me out please?
I was running the SlimBean ROM and my wife is going to get me a Galaxy Note 3 and I am wanting to trade my phone back in (T-Mo S4) for a decent credit twords the note. I wanted to get my phone back to an unrooted mod free (counter reset, etc) bone stock condition. I snagged a rooted stock rom and booted into recovery (TW 2.5.0.2) and flased the zip. The idea was once I got that rooted stock ROM up, I would use the Trainge Away alpp, reset everything, then use ODIN to flash the T-Mo rom to remove the last traces of being modified.
Now...my phone will not boot at all, it just stays on the Galaxy S4 screen. The first time I let it go for almost 30 minutes...nothing...
I can still get into recovery, and into download mode - BUT, ODIN will not recognize my phone in download mode - my computer says the drivers are not there. I have KIES installed and I thought the drivers for the phone were included.
Kinda desperate here...heh

Try going into recovery and wiping data/factory reset. If that doesn't work then uninstall all drivers and reinstall them. Reboot your computer and then try to connect your phone to Odin.

Use the USB cable that came with the phone too. While most other cables are fine, the occasional low quality USB cable has been known to cause all kinds of problems like this.

Ok, here is an update. I got everything straightened out. I followed the instructions for resetting the ROM counter, and I used ODIN to flash the official T-MO ROM. In D/L mode it says system status Official, but binary status still reads modified...
Correction...now it shows both system and binary as custom again...
Now what?

Heres what you gotta do to clear it out odin back to stock put triangle away apk on your desktop re root your phone just root no recovery or anything. . Then reboot fully skim thru setup put the apk on your phone install do the triangle away again now after thre that reboot your phone normally once it cuts off hit the buttons to lunch recovery and do the factory reset and you will be golden theres a thread how to do it in the general section:thumbup::beer:

[Q] Received refurb S3 / Slow Charge

My original S3 went fubar with the SD card slot and I had the phone warranty exchanged. Phone had 4.3(UCUEMJB) from upndwn4par and everything ran great... except the SD card. I received a factory refurb yesterday, rooted it using CFautoroot, installed ROM manager, rebooted to recovery, flashed 4.3 bootloder, modem, then ROM. First start came up, did some checking out, rebooted, installed Titanium.... you get the idea. The whole time my phone was plugged into the same USB cable and port on my PC that my old one used. That's when I noticed, its wasn't really charging. Started with 20% battery life and a couple hours later the battery had charged to 25%??? The wall charger does charge a bit faster, as to be expected, but no where near what it used to with my older phone.
I'm assuming this is either a cable or hardware issue but want to know if its possible that the Firmware or ROM would have anything to do with the phone charging? I ask because the method I used to root this S3 was different then the last and I've been experiencing some other oddities as well.
Last time I used Odin to flash a rom already injected with root. Every time I'm in recovery manager and I go reboot its prompting me:
Root Access Possibly Lost. Fix?
I've also noticed that when I access the bootloader, It states:
Custom Binary Downloaded, YES (1 Count)
Current Binary: Custome
System Status : Custom
Qualcomm Secureboot: Enable
Warranty Bit: 1
Bootloader AP SWAEV: 2
Any thoughts, Ideas, ridicule are welcome

My thought is if you are going to get it replaced under warranty again you're going to have to do some shady stuff. The part that says warranty bit 1 in red letters is letting everyone know that you have flashed a custom file on it. You can get back to stock recovery, you can flash triangle away but in the end your phone will still say it is custom and will still say warranty bit 1 in red letters (before you flashed anything it said warranty bit 0 in grey letters)

Im not to worried about that part. I didn't warranty through AT&T but through Best Buy's Geek Squad and they've never checked for custom ROM's on any of my other phones.
It usually takes time for the battery to calibrate after flashing a new rom. It should be normal after a few charge cycles.
