Any sprint employees that can provide some advice here would be great.
I'm a premiere customer and have 1 more month before my year is complete.
I'd like to upgrade to the EVO.
Is there anything that can be done a month early? I'm impatient.
A special code, threaten to cancel my contract or else and get passed to retention? Anything?
nope pretty much corp stores used to be able to push up the date a month early if it was within 18 days of the next month and they took that away. and you can threat but it wouldnt make it better to be honest, ive had customers sa they need a phone asap because it broke and its a month away. stil a no go they will offer you a feature phone for free but thats it no early upgrade.
My friend, a Sprint employee, said he could push the date 18 days for me still.

I don't want it for free, I want to use my yearly upgrade and renew my contract for another 2 years with Evo.
Seems like 18 days early on premier is the soonest..
Could retention do anything? I used to work as an AT&T Retention CSR. We could upgrade at 6 months into a 24mo contract.
I'm gonna find out on June 4th.
I'm going to throw the Hero 2.1 update failures, loyalty and my company has about 100 active Sprint accounts for our sales reps, plus I get a discount.
They can either keep my business, and I'll give them my soul for another 2 years or I'll threaten to leave, (which I really won't) but I'm a telemarketer, I'll get what I want.

How about sucking it up and waiting, or paying full price for it? Its insane how people thing its acceptable to threaten to break a contract just to get their way. I wish these wireless providers would just say "You're gonna leave our great plans and phones because you have to wait a month? Ok, We'll be sending your final bill with the ETF right away. Enjoy your new carrier."
You signed a contract for 2 years. They graciously let you upgrade halfway through because of either your price plan or your longtime loyalty, and how do you react? Like a 4 year old who threatens to hold their breath till they get a cookie. Grow up.

If you don't call retention in a situation like this, you just aren't savvy about getting the best bang for your buck from your provider. They have whole call centers in place to handle these calls. The squeaky wheel gets the grease.
If I have to wait until November for the Evo, I probably will switch carriers. They'll probably appreciate me giving them a heads up rather than me just porting out and paying my final bill. Gives them an opportunity to keep my business. If not, its cool. iPhone HD here I come.

Nobody is talking about breaking a contract, they're talking about switching carriers after their contract is up.

Very good possibility that I'll be paying an ETF in near future at least.
One thing I should probably add here... I was instructed to proactively offer early upgrades on EVERY LINE on any account that came through retention. Even if the call was misrouted to us. The carriers don't lose money doing this stuff.

Not really sure how I look ignorant. I simply understand honoring an agreement I made. If I wanted it that bad, but wasn't eligible for upgrade, I'd just buy it outright, or if I didn't want to spend that much money, I'd wait.
You also don't know me, so I'll just say pot, kettle. And as far as getting out of your thread, its a public forum. You expressed your opinion on how to abuse the system, I gave you mine on people who do those kinds of things. /shrug Sorry it offended you so much.

Yes, I know that the tactic works. I just disagree with it. I deal with people who will give me the nasty "well if you dont do XYZ for me, ill never come back." attitude regularly, and honestly, most of them want things that are so ridiculous, and they treat reps so badly, that I'd prefer they took their business elsewhere.
*I'm not saying that you would be a total douche to the retentions person, but most people are*

The OP is in a 2 year contract, but his premier status allows him to upgrade at the year mark. He still has one year on the original contract though. So he would be leaving mid-contract if things didn't go his way.

Also if you re read my OP you'll see that I said I won't switch/cancel, I'll tell them that I will. There are tactics involved here. I'm going to try, and if I fail, I fail. I'll wait the 30 days. No big deal. If I don't have to wait then great! That's the point of this thread.

I think the kicker here would bethat leaving sprint not only costs the ETF, but everyone else has higher priced plans. Double whammy, unless you really liked a phone that was only available elsewhere.
You said your upgrade was november...at the rate phones are coming out, the EVO II might be ready by then lol

I love my job. I dislike rude and disrespectful people.
If you're not the kind of person that talks down to the poor operator on the other end of the line and acts like a complete ass, then I can understand you asking them to make an exception for you. I will apologize for jumping the gun and expecting that you would do it douchingly.
Although I still stick by my opinion that if someone threatens to leave the service over this kind of issue, the carrier should be willing to send them on their way to someone who will be more accomidating.

Thats the thing. They know that people wont leave most of the time, its just a scare tactic. If you knew someone was BSing you, would you give them what they wanted, or call their bluff?
If one of my customers asks me for something in a respectful manner, I will go out of my way to help them get it. If they try to bully me into it, I am not going to go the extra mile. It's all about how you treat people.
I think thats why this thread took the angry turn it did earlier lol

I would kill them with kindness and facts. Ones that they cannot dispute and tactfully ask them questions in they can ONLY say yes to.
Yelling and screaming gets no one anything. If you're smart enough and think it through and corner them then they don't have much choice.
This is a service I pay for. I respect that. Some rules are a bit overboard and need to be broken and/or not implemented in the first place. 30 days early, 18 days earlier, whatever. It sure as won't cause Dan Hesse to eat off the dollar menu @ Burger King.
i am a sprint employee for a corp store and we can do the early upgrade 18 days before BUT ur current phone has to be broken or juss does not work the way its suppose to and with proof....if i was you i would wait just because price may dropped who knows u could get a better price.
Cool it guys, no need to talk to each other that way.
I can see both sides of the coin here, but if I couldn't wait till october to upgrade and bought a phone outright, then listen to my buddy (who I guarantee will do this) tell me how he called sprint and complained for 2 hours until they gave him the full upgrade price I would feel like a tool. And before some all knowing sprint rep tells me this isn't possible, I have managed to accomplish this a couple times and got my way everytime. I feel for sprint employees who deal with crap all day from rude people, and I've personally never taken to a personal level with anyone, but just like everyone else, I would much rather sit on the phone with some random person for an hour and tell them to give me the upgrade price than give sprint 600 dollars of my money just so they can come out with some other phone a month later and give the one I just bought away free with a new contract. Phone companies I assure you are still making quite a bit of profit, nothing personal to any Sprint employee, but if you don't like people being rude to you, you're in the wrong business. And it's dumb to pay extra money for something when it's not necessary. I will not leave sprint but I'll threaten to all day if it saves me money.
I do this all the time... im a premier account myself, and I just sign up for an additional 2yr when my current 2yr is up, so if my contract were up, and is up, 2011 july... when i get the evo I will have to resign early and my new end date will be july 2013, I shouldnt be due an upgrade untill jan 2011, but im always allowed to do this and have never had an issue.
just be nice!, and ask with a please.
I've been on a 3yr 6month contract before due to this, for that lame duck tp

Its sad that not only is it expected that people will be rude to each other fo no reason, but it is also acceptable. Says something about todays society.
As far as paying a bunch of money out of pocket for the phone, that's how I always get mine. Keeps me contract free, and since I only keep them 6-8 months anyway, I just make sure to take good care of them so they're easily sellable and I recoup some of that expense.
Also, the loss for the phone company comes from the fact that they are discounting the original phone (say a hero now) based on a 2 year contract. But at one year the customer upgrades (Evo) and gets another discount before the expected recovery of the original phone's discount is met. (Obviously only applies if the profit has NOT covered the original discount before the early upgrade.) I think it would be cool if they let you trade in your phone that is still under contract in exchange for the chance to upgrade early.
ok guys i have a survivor EVO who survived for 12 minutes drowned in water, but my wifi, bluetooth and front cammera are not working, now i claimed as lost in the insurance and they are sending me a replacement for my phone, now my question is can i use the old drowned evo in METROPCS or that esn will be invalid?
It can be ported to evo just never used on sprint again. it can also go to cricket

Yes, you can just flash it to metroPCS, there are tons of instructions out there. HOWEVER, I noticed you're in NYC. Just keep in mind the Metro PCS network in NYC and New england is quite new and uses the 1700mHz AWS band, which the evo does not support.

In my experience insurance doesn't report the esn to sprint if you only talk to the insurance folks directly. The only way to get it deactivated or marked as lost or stolen is to actually tell sprint. Whether it's asking them for the phone number of asurion and telling them the phone was lost or telling them in the store.

Also please do not forget that Insurance Fraud is bad. It causes higher deductibles for those that make claims, even those that are not making fraudulent claims.
If you have the device, water damaged or not, you are supposed to send it to Asurion. Asurion is not my friend, however I am a customer of theirs. I think that you should send the phone to them.
I do wonder why it was 12 minutes in the water and not 11 or 13. 11 minutes in the water sounds much more believable for an insurance claim than 12.
I do not like people to commit insurance fraud, however my employment is based on the basis of deterring insurance.

While I think he came off as kind of douche-y when he questioned the minutes the phone was dunked in water, I think he's quite right about everything else. It IS insurance fraud, and it WILL raise our deductible. Just a year ago it would cost $50 to replace a phone with asurion, now it costs double that.

I meant to hit the quote button but I hit the thanks button by mistake. Anyway, your example is pretty stupid. The point is he reported his phone lost or stolen when in fact it wasn't. I am sure that he new that if he reported it as damaged then he would have to return the damaged phone thats why he reported it as lost or stolen. If you report your car stolen but in reality you have it hidden somewhere in a friends garage then file an insurance claim isn't that fraud? If you drive your car into a brick wall and the insurance company totals your car out do you get to keep the totalled car to repair then sell it to someone else? Of course not, it becomes the property of the insurance company.

I never said anything about being perfect, I also am not judging anyone or what they do. I could care less what anyone decides to do, that's their business but still, it is what it is and that's a fact. Also, what do you mean by as much as we pay for these phones? Do you remember what cell phones cost 5, 10 or 15 years ago and you gonna mention about the price of phones now? The price of these phones now are way more than reasonable for what we get even though its gonna be outdated in six months, thats just the nature of the industry. If you buy a new car today, in 6 months it aint gonna be worth **** either compared to what you paid for it so whats your point? If something happens to your car are you gonna commit fraud to get as much as you can out of the insurance company because you paid an arm and a leg for your car? Hell, what if your boss tells you one day that "as much as we pay you, you can blow me", is that ok? Like I said it is what it is and you cant dispute that. What ever you decide to do is your business and what ever the OP decides to do is his business, I was just pointing out the obvious facts without casting judgement.

Do you not grasp the fact the Asurion has to pay for the phones they send out to people who commit fraud?

Asurion does not pay for our phones every body here that pays 7$
A month for 24 months. Is 168$ plus 100 dollar deductible they are effectively getting us to pay 268 dollars for us to get a refurbished replacement phone.... now granted my math is based on us having a 2 yr contract and that you only make a claim once a yr... sounds like they're winning to me.....
Just my theory on this as much as **** cost in this world of ours every now and then you've got to stick it to the man
Edit. Have you ever actually seen the invoice price of the Evo ..... buying a phone is worse than buying a car

so lemme ask u something here, so if i report my phone damaged, i gotta returned and pay 100 dollars, but i reported lost, i still paid 100 dollars but guess what?? i have a spare battery and some parts in case i need it, so i guess is a pretty good deal... come on, if it was free to send the phone back and get a new one, i wouldve done it...
Insurance fraud is illegal on any level. $5 or $5 million dollars. By keeping the phone you are contributing to possible future increases of insurance rates or deductibles.
What I think is funny is that you openly admit to breaking the law on a public forum. Then, you continue to justify yourself. The law is the law.
Assurion is a business and their drive is to profit. If you do not want to support them then you have other options such as Best Buy Insurance or no insurance.
By returning the phone you are giving Assurion a possible chance to refurbish that phone and the ability to keep insurance rates and deductibles down.

Of course they report it to Sprint, if they didn't they would be taking losses left and right.
While I cant say that people that brick havent affected the TEP prices, I can say I think a big part of it is sprints fault.
Today I filed my first TEP claim with sprint since I have been with them (late 09-early 10).
My headphones were cutting in and out so I replaced them, and it still happened. I took it to sprint and they said they dont have many parts for our phone.
They didnt even bother to take it apart they just ordered me another phone. This is a waste of money for something like a headphone jack not working, and just giving me another phone. This is the reason the costs are going up.

lmao did that alot when i had a mogul and it kept messing up. Remember though they arent just gonna toss your old phone when u get the new one, it will go to a repair facility to get refurbed then out to the next customer.
Too late now (and it may have voided the warranty trying to fix it), but unless the actual jack was broken, Deoxit probably would have taken care of it.
Love that stuff.
[duh me.. it's a contact cleaner. same stuff that cleans guitar jacks/knobs from all of the bar smoke and spilled beer]
Lol, this thread tickles me.
What do you really think we're going to do with your exchanged phone, just toss it?
Its going back to the warehouse, the jack will be fixed, then shipped to a store. Only difference from it being fixed in store is shipping.
I would be glad if I were you. You know, we could be like Verizon, and say it doesn't warrant an exchange, so instead ship it off to get fixed.
The truth be told, the issue of not having parts for this phone is not a problem, but rather a symptom: sprint doesn't have much money to spend with vendors, and one of the results is that I and all my other fellow techs have had to be very resourceful when it comes to fixing phones; consider we haven't gotten new parts for a phone that is any newer than the EVO Shift

I wasnt complaining, it was more just to state that it seems like a waste of money.
Hell even the bricked phones Im sure they could salvage a lot of it, the screen and other parts would be useful.
I guess when I went into the store I was expecting a on the spot fix. Why dont they keep referbs in store?
You know, I had a similar thing happen. My soft keys, or whatever they are, werent working very well, so I figured they would replace the screen. The problem was the ribbon cable on the bottom of the screen that connects to the keys. Instead they gave me a brand new phone.....a new one, not a refurb. It had never been activated before.
TEP isn't going up because of people breaking their phones, it's going up to cover the latest devices being $550+.
Also, what you did isn't a "claim".

Since you brought up prices, its interesting to point out that I noticed at best buy the retail for this phone is $699 or $749,while the sprint store was $499. I would guess that it is because sprint gets them cheaper because its directly with the manufacturer?
And I said claim because when I looked up the coverage, it says you are allowed up to 3 claims a year I thought. Or is that for like broken screens?
And why wouldn't sprint send my phone for an example to samsung under the 1 year warranty (I think) and save them some money?
Tep is only going up for new lte devices with a full retail price of $549.99 or higher. It will be $11/mo and a $150 deductable. All current phones will stay at $8/mo and only new lte phones with a msrp lower than $549.99 will stay at the current $8/mo with a $100 deductible

A. We do keep refurbished phones, but maybe the didn't have one.
B. We harvest the crap out of returns in your case, we will take it apart and harvest everything but the jack and the motherboard.
C. Lately, it seems Samsung has been doing some of their own refurbished , because they come in a different box.
D. Yes TEP is going up thanks to the phones being more expensive.

Its also not so much the cost of phones going up. Its the amount of devices at that cost level being sold now. The more high cost phones sold the higher the chance if a high cost claim. Like any insurance they reevaluated and adjusted.
^^ what he said. I work for Sprint too, i run the largest ASC (repair center) in our region, and the way we work is this: if your phone is broke, we attempt to repair it using either Sprint-supplied parts, aftermarket parts, or parts harvested from devices that were exchanged through the Advanced Exchange program- all of this is covered under TEP, but if you don't have it, we then charge you $35. If we can't fix it, we order a replacement. If it's liquid damaged, smashed, spider-cracked, or lost, w refer you to Asurion to file a claim (which is an extended feature of TEP) and then you pay a deductible. If you bricked it, then it's a case-by-case basis (TIP: dont be a condescending a-hole who knows everything, and don't lie to us).
Some phones we simply can't get parts for from Sprint, so we have to order from a 3rd party (e.g. Global Direct), or rely solely on having a harvest-able device on hand. So when we exchange a device for a customer, we hold onto it for 14 days and we use it to harvest parts from part-for-part as needed, then ship it back to the warehouse. We can't stockpile harvested parts, as we are required to replace the parts we take with the defective ones (or else we get charged back).
Whoever said we just hard reset and say have a nice day must've had a bad experience somewhere, because at our store, we take our work pretty seriously. Our goal isn't to be super-techs, but rather make you so happy that you'll take that survey call that's generated a couple days after the service and answer it with a "very satisfied". Our jobs depend on those customer satisfaction surveys (CSAT's), and any response less than a "very satisfied" is a failing score for the particular tech who fixed your phone. Those CSAT survey scores keep us up at night, and is the bane of our very existence. So please, if we fixed your device, help us keep our jobs.
I can't speak for other ASC's, but it wouldn't surprise me if there are a few techs out there who aren't that good, but hey, you get that in EVERY company. Don't go in acting like we need to lick your sack because you're super important and can't be without a phone for the 30 mins we need to work on it. Don't treat us like we're idiots because YOU dropped your phone in a mud puddle. Don't get pissed at us because you forgot your Google account password and expect us to be able to magically figure it out. We want to help you. Help us help you.
But yeah, the price change on TEP is due to the rising cost of the bleeding-edge devices that are coming out, the cost of our Network Vision roll-out, and i am totally guessing here, but to re-coop on the overhead of having unlimited data.
Tep is going up because the iPhone came to sprint. Watch for Verizon double data promo to end once iPhone lte comes out. The phone is a game changer for these networks

He must...I definitely enjoy stockpiling harvested parts at my corporate store
Though, seriously, we need to. Sprint has hung us put to dry with a lack of new parts; bins full of harvested parts is the only way to keep under that exchange rate. Especially with HTC touchscreens lately...

I'm curious, does TEP now cover iPhone? I had the impression when iPhone first came out, TEP wasn't available for it. Then I think a month or so ago, I read rumors that they were planning on having TEP cover iPhone.

No, not at all. Only AppleCare+ is available for the iPhone. Which is fine by me, the less I have to work on that phone the better.

Ok lets get this out of the way first. Yes my glass broke second day of owning, yes I was being careful and wasn't neglect on my part. Phone should have been able to survive a fall from less then 12" only landing on its back with out breaking glass.
Ok now that we got that taken care of here are my options.
1. Buy $30.00 glass attempt repair on my own. Question with this are if I mess up or something gets damaged could I still claim insurance(ie. will they know I have opened phone)
2. Att states they will replace for $199.99 but will likely be refurbished unit(which sucks). If I go this route will I need to flash back to stock and reset flash count or will they even check that. Rooted with custom recovery and att clean rom. Any one had experience with att insurance claim?
Local shops say its impossible to replace just the glass. Repair would be $425.00 so that is out.
Edit: I tried to call the walmart I purchased it from and got no answer. So I called another walmart and told her what happened. She said we are told we can't exchange phones that are damaged and you only get one exchange. So I thought I was screwed. She then said read your contract if it doesn't say anything about the condition of the phone or the number of times Walmart will have to replace phone. She kept emphasizing to read contract. Then said if I have any problems Call her back and she will call corporate. Sure enough contract states you can exchange phones in the 14 days nothing about condition or number of times. So following walmarts contract I got the note replaced. As of today if anything thing happens I have insurance. I also bought a temporary case till otterbox gets here.
Re: [Q] Broken Glass, ATT insurance, matters of opinion
I've dealt with att twice and it was agreeable. The second time I sent my note 1 in for the same issue (charging port failure) they sent me a brand new device. The truth is you don't always get a refurb, it's just kind of luck and how much product is on hand (so I was told by att cs).
If you try to fix the screen yourself and fail DON'T send it in for warranty... That's fraud and effects the prices for everyone else.

Try searching next time. Here a few ppl have claimed to replaced only the glass but from experience on my s2 skyrocket its a pain in the a** and I ended up cracking the digitizer. If so tho ppl in this thread say to search for videos on youtube. Check it out.

The customer is always right...
Sorry about your shattered screen. that's rough. hope I can offer some insight on your warranty situation:
You have two angles of attack:
1. Go in with your tail tucked between your legs, and pray for the best possible outcome. If the outcome is less than optimal, follow step 2:
2. Argue pleasantly, until you're satisified.
That said, at&t is usually pretty good with succumbing to "motivated" customers. I've always tried, and with great sucess, gotten all of my replacements by contacting them through e-mail or phone (and a few times at the service centers). My own personal experience has lead me to believe, if you go in, they're more likely to scrutinize you, your credability and your story and stick you with the least desirable option. My brother-in-law is a very "motivated" customer, and has almost always been "satisifed" by at&t (that's what she said) (shattered screens, water submersion, etc).
And as far as relocking\returning to stock, again, IME, I've only had them check my device for root/BL tampering twice, and they simply checked to see if their was a stock recovery. And I think it was only because the kid was knowledgable enough to know how to check. Otherwise, I've always gotten the impression the sales person doesn't know how to check for evidence of a tampered device.
If Steps 1 and 2 fail, try droping the, ETF-bomb. "How much is my Early Termination Fee?" In my experience, they always come back with good news from their supervisor. YMMV. And just as an FYI, when I have dropped the ETF-bomb, I had legitmately wanted to end my service; I wasn't threatening.
Good luck and hope some of this was useful to you! like I said, YMMV.
PS. If you go into one service center and they give you your options, that doesn't stop you from leaving with your device and getting a "second opinion" from another, possibly more agreeable service center. And then if you care to, as a last resort, you can always try contacting them through e-mail\phone.

Good advice all the way around, all though not too sure about ETF because I'm still on my new contract 14 days. Not sure how they would take that. I also thought about see what Walmart would do since that is where the phone was purchased do to pricing. With the screen not sure how they would handle that can't find anything on the web about the return policy for store bought phones.

Well then, you just opened up your options - try a bunch of different Wal-marts. One of them is bound to have a lackluster employee who doesn't care, and just wants to go back to doing nothing - find that guy\gal and bring home your new N2.
If there is no physical damage to the body of the phone, you have better support to your story that the screen was flawed. I would really fight that point, that the screen was flawed.
Honestly, they don't have a leg to stand on, if there is no physical evidence to the body of the phone that it was "accidental damage", and they're not going to call you a liar (at least not to your face). With all of this, keep in mind to "argue" as politely as possible, but be persistent. Wear them down and get to yes! Illegitimi non carborundum.
---------- Post added at 01:57 PM ---------- Previous post was at 01:54 PM ----------
And yeah, as far as the ETF-bomb, it may not help if you're only 14 days into your contract. I've been with at&t since 2002 and I have 3 lines, so, that may factor in on their decision with the ETF-bomb.
I was with att for ten years when they decided to move out my upgrade date out of now where claiming it was because of a data overage. I was out of contract ready for renewal the didn't give a S*** about me canceling. I went to Verizon and it was a nightmare had 4 gig limit and they where charging me overage at 3.5 gig. Fought with them for about 3 months before I was able to use breach in contract with a supervisor to get out with out a ETF. Now I'm back at ATT and had this happen.

thaaaaat sucks.
Move out your upgrade date because of data overage? weird. that makes no sense to me.
Here's a possible option: it's $200 and you have to return your current device or, is it $200 for a new device and you keep your shattered device? If it's the latter, then possibly sell the current N2 as-is on eBay\craigslist and use that money to purchase replacement? I am inclined to believe it is probably $200 + returning current N2.

The said thing about the overage was it was due to their lack luster dsl department getting our dsl turned on at the new house. Seemed that the old tenant had some cheap phone service and never turned it off. They wanted $800.00 to run new lines. So we where using phones as all internet for a month. I'm pretty sure that I will have to return device, once the other comes in. I'm going to try walmart first, then if that doesn't work see if I can talk the deductible down on the att insurance and hope its not a refurbished. I have had to many android and iphones(wife) that have been through three young boys with out damage and this one damages so easy. Either way new device will not be fully used till it is safe in a case then still treated like a baby.
Bonne chance!

I didn't see this mentioned but I recommend getting the insurance protection from Best Buy. You can still get it even if you don't get the phone from Best Buy. You can pay one flat fee to cover the year or pay $7 a month.
They will replace your phone at no extra cost for physical or water damage.

Very much aware of that. Had it on my Galaxy nexus gave it to my mom she dropped it hard cracked the screen now she is waiting for her refurb to come in. They told me it was replaced at the store when I brought it in, with new unit. I have had to loan her my inspire while she waits 5-10 days for the other to come in. Not really satisfied with that plan either.
Re: [Q] Broken Glass, ATT insurance, matters of opinion
That's weird. I've had to have 3 devices replaced through best buy over the last couple of years. I've never had to wait more than 3 days. I Also like that you get a loaner phone till the replacement comes in.

I'm actually a manager at a best buy mobile.. We are supposed to supply loaners if we have them with a $50 deposit that you get back when your phone comes back in.. Some stores don't charge that even though they should.. For android devices the insurance is $9.99 a month or $169.99 for 2 years.. Everything is covered except lost or stolen.. Which we do have a free app called locked and found that will let you lock your phone out if it is lost or stolen. It will take pictures with the front facing camera and email them to you with a location.. The best part is there are unlimited claims and no deposit

You should not be concerned AT ALL that you may get a refurbished phone. I've done it couple of times and the phone is always perfect brand new condition. It's not like it will have scuffs on it or non-working parts....not to worry.
Also don't need to reset your phone to stock...you're getting it replaced due to broken screen not complaints that it is not functioning.
So in nov I signed up with tmobile and got the note and a gs3 for my wife. I plan on selling the note and getting the s4 in march. I call tmobile to pay it off and they tell me I have to pay both phones off? This isn't what the agent told me when I signed up. He knew I swap phones about every 6 months. So my question is why can't I pay the note off separate? My wife never upgrades her phone plus it would lower my bill per month down. Tmobile is ending the subsidiaries anyways so I don't see what the issue is? The reason I went gsm is to be able to put any phone on the carrier as I like, such as international versions.
Talk to a different rep. Cause that rep is an asshole
Sent from my SGH-T889 using xda app-developers app
Nope just spoke to customer relations and was told it cannot be done until tmobile ends the subsidiaries in a few months. No way in hell I'm paying $700+ for both phones. Basically the rep I signed up with flat out lied to me. If I would of known this I would of just bought my note full retail. Really ticked off right now.
$720 for both phones + $600 or so for the s4 is just too much for me.
3rd damn carrier that seems to lure their customers in with lies. Who would refuse me paying off a phone today? Basically I was told their systems cannot allow only one device to be payed off until may when they change their policies. This is really going to screw over a lot of people. I just don't get it.
Can anyone explain tmobiles logic in this? I'm baffled.
I've heard that since it was Even More Plus. The credit line is for everything combined, you can't separate them out. No idea if that's the truth, but they have been consistent in telling me that. If you were lied to, that really sucks and, IMO, they should try to do something for you. No idea what, but they could offer something.
Not much help, but at least confirming what they are telling you now anyway.

Yeah I have it in writing too from the original kiosk rep. I'm really ticked as I talk to this guy all the time when I'm at the mall. Tmobile is investigating what he told me and I've notified his manger. This really screws anyone who wants to get another phone anytime before may. I just don't understand the logic. Why would they care if I decide to pay the device off? Now I'm screwed if I wanted to get the s4 in a few weeks unless I add a 3rd line.
Now I can see why so many go prepaid. To avoid all of the carrier BS. This is worse then what I dealt with on both sprint and Verizon.
There has to be a loophole for this. Any ideas guys?
It does make sense that the credit extended is put into one loan. I'm sure it makes it easier on the accounting for them....... BUT...... If that guy told you something different, I would go straight to him and have him help you get this sorted out immediately. He's the one that gave you misinformation, I would make him spend time working to correct it also.
Sent from my SGH-T889 using xda premium
yeah, this really makes no sense to me why they would require this just because the phone accounts are linked? Just to be sure though, I'm going to make sure I buy my phone and my wife's phone separately.
Im told its becuase both phones were purchased together but that was becuase thats the day i switched from verizon to tmobile. The rep knew i switch devices often and told me it wouldnt be an issue. I got an email from the manager that they are investigating. If any of you bought the phones together id check on this. Im glad they are ending the pay per month on the phones BS. From now on ill pay full price.
This happened to me too. Opened a tmo business account and bought an S3 and a cheap text phone for the wife. Financed $500 between the two, and was told I could pay them off seperately. The note 2 comes out, so I go to pay the balance of the S3. I was told the same, you have to pay both off because they where contracted at ths same time. But I still had enough available credit to finance the note 2, swap the sim from the S3 in to the note 2, put the S3 on Craigslist, it sold the next day for the $400 balance I had on the note 2. Walked in to tmo the very next day and paid the note 2 off.
This is just an idea, I don't know for sure if it will work, but when I bought
my Note and my wife's phone, they told me that is no penalty if I pay
the phone(s) in advance OR if I pay more per month to shorten the pay
period of 20 months.
So, I guess you can go into the store and tell them you want to pay, let's say
$300 in the account for the phones. That will lower your montly payment, just
like you payed yours out and not "mess" with they're account number.
It's worth a try anyway....

the way tmobile does business is BS. never had this issue on sprint or verizon, i could swap phones when ever i wanted without penalties. knowing me the s4 will be announced and ill get impatient and just pay the $720 off and get the new phone lol. from now on ill always just buy my devices outright.
You could do what I did. Pay the deposit on the new phone and finance the rest, sell the old phone, then pay off the new phone.

i was told flat out i cannot pay off just one device, it has to be all of them or none until they end the subsidies and change their systems in may. im waiting to hear back from the store manager.

If that is the case, which I will call tomorrow and find out, me and tmobile are gonna have a huge problem. I upgrade very often. If I can't pay a portion of that off to free up space for a new device there's no point.

same here man, i upgrade very often. go ahead and call and i bet you get the same response i was given. once they end the subsidies and change the policies you will be able to pay just one device off. "take that with a grain of salt". to me this just doesn't make much business sense. if i finance two cars at the same time for lets say 2 years and decide to pay one of them off early i doubt anyone would be complaining getting their money early.
