I bought my 64 GB micro SD card the other day and I was annoyed to find out that the Xperia ZL mounts the SD card in a way that I can't transfer apps to it or something. I can only transfer music and videos and pictures, or transfer files directly through file browsers with root access.
Is having 64 GB really only going to get me more music, movies, and pics? Tell me please, that there is a way to get apps on there. I have the locked bootloader C6506 so flashing is not a solution for me plz remember.

You can still root your phone, after rooting you can use app2sd to transfer apps to your external sdcard.
BTW, this belongs in Q&A
I have my phone rooted, and added exFATsupport to the phone. It worked 100%, but twrp won't read exFAT at all. Just letting you know. I added a 9GB film and it played just fine past 4GB.

Ok, so here is my question, sorry if it was asked, i used the search and couldn't find something like me.
So whenever I install games, many uses about 200-300MB of space, it will use my USB storage which its coming to a fill very soon, if i keep downloading new games. My question is, how can i make use of my 16GB SD card to install game files. And, I just re-read the GS2 box, and it saids it has 16BGB-32GB, is there a way i can upgrade the internal USB Storage, or what exactly did that mean?
The 16-32 Gbs are like iPhones they come with 16orll or 32 gbs units. Have you tried pushing the data from tthe gamed to the sdcard?

I know i can copy it from USB to SD, or move, but i know that wont do what i want to do. Since it will be move, whenever i load the game and looks for the files, it wont look in the SD card, but the USB storage.
I thought the GS2 only came as a 16GB model. It will accept up to a 32GB microSD card and Android seems to be pretty intelligent about being able to find stuff on the external SD card if it's not in USB storage (internal). It finds my ringtones and images on my external SD card without me having to do anything.
If the apps/games you're using aren't enabled for being moved to the SD card (Settings/Applications/Manage Applications/On SD Card) then you'll have to find some other way to make space, perhaps moving your images to the external SD and configuring the camera app to store images there, or uninstalling apps.
it can actually use larger than 64 GB microSD see my HowTo guide
I'm curious as well because some titles like Asphalt 6 and GTA 3 download much more data than the .apk was to download.
For instance GTA3 from the market is 12.93MB, and if you move to external SD Card, you're moving only 13MB, but the game data to download is around 450MB and where's that stored? I have an external 32 and I'd rather prefer to store everything on that primarily.
I was so seeing the same thing. I have 32gb SD card and I would to find a workaround for this silly issue. Any input would be awesome!

On a regular linux system, it would be a simple matter of finding the folder where the data files were stored, copying them to a new drive and then configure /etc/fstab to mount the new drive on top of the data file folder.
not sure if this is possible with Android and would require root if it were possible.

tried app2sd?
sorry for the delay respond to all.I was away from a computer for awhile. So, i see all this talk, and it has helped me understand a bit more. I actually decided to delete some already beaten games to make space.
In regards to the pics and music, they have always been in my SD card. But i will download app2sd and see if it works. The actual app itself does not bother me. Most of the time, they are very little. Is the download after what does bother me. Most games need from 300mb to nearly 1Gb of space. Now thats a lot, when a phone comes only wiht 11.5GB of 16GB and we know why that happens.

app2sd is not going to help you, if you already have the stuff installed to SD card
those cheesy App2SD apps only shows you which Apps can be moved to SD
you need Link2SD the real deal, the one that actually convert stuff over to the hidden partition in your SD card to use as Internal memory, which you are short on
just look up my HOWTO guide, it's stickied in the INDEX topic
Help beginning to regret replacing my iPhone for the note 2 because I only have 10gig to play with.
I rooted the note 2 using Odin recommended way that was no problem, I am still with the stock rom at this point and I also have a SanDisk Ultra Android 64GB MicroSDXC Class 10 card what I didn’t know is that you can’t use app2sd to any more
so I tried to use app2sdNote2 script and that worked ok but when I took photos the would not work on the SD card (that’s now the internal 10gb) they were just a blank black image so I then put the camera to store on the internal (now 64gb)
that was fine so I then moved the Pics to the SD card 10gb and again they were just a blank black image again, So I then put the note 2 back to normal and started again this time I use Directory Bind 0.2 0o but could not get that to work
I tried to move Google music, explained on xda-developers : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=34770900&postcount=9 and it still saved the files to the internal and SD card????
Please can someone explain how I can use the 64 GB for apps?? Do I need to use a custom Rom if so what is the best rom to use and how to flash the rom in newbie terms
I would love to use this great bit of Tec, please, please can someone me help I am new to all this.
the link to the site is for some years back.

Thank you for your time

You're going to have to partition your SD card so that its partially FAT32 (or exFAT, whichever one you use) and partially an EXT journaling filesystem. You then install Link2SD. From there you can make symlinks that make the phone think that the app is stored on the Internal storage, but are really stored on the SD.
Link2SD: https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.buak.Link2SD
Partitioning Details: http://www.noypigeeks.com/android/tutorial-a-guide-to-link2sd/
This worked great on my Nexus One, I've never tried it on my Note 2 before though, so good luck.

Download gl to SD from play store and u can move data from games to SD apps2sd doesn't work on note 2 and s3. So the app will be installed on the internal and any game data will be moved using gl to SD

Am I the only one who is having difficulty in loading to external sd card sometime movies will load and play once and the next time say cannot play video sometimes the movie files will just be completely gone. Same happens with music files sometimes but not as much trouble with the. This happens with both avi and mp4
I just did the 4.4.2 update but this was going on with 4.2.1 also
It doesn't. Matter if I load files wifi direct or use SuperBeam or straight USB hookup
My SD card is a Samsung Pro 64 gb xc

I had the problem using custom ROMs and having to format the SD card to Fat32.
Decided stock ROM was best for full function, and never got the issue since.
Also if you get SD cards from Ebay, there have been cases of fake name brand SD cards from china. You can look for an SD format tool online. There is one in particular that will properly format beyond a Windows format. If it passes, it should work well.. if not it will probably be toast after a few format attempts. Meaning you can format to Fat32 or Exfat but it will not hold data. Seen one with my very own eyes a few years back. Would format and show its maximum free space and load files, but after a certain amount was placed on the card, files would corrupt or go missing.
so i keep reading that from KitKat, SD Cards are locked down so this how locked down is this on this phone.. what can/can't be stored on the card? ie can say
movies be played from the SDCard?
this kinda will make decide between 16GB or 32GB model.

If you are rooted, install this app from the play store and run it once and reboot. Your apps will now have full access to the external sdcard like it was before KitKat.

but i am talking without rooting...
why sell a 16GB devices with a SD CARD if you cant use it unless u root it.. kinda makes it point less and more weight to get the 32GB model.. either this or some other phone.
I would presume LG tweak to the O/s has enabled access which is what i am curious if this is the case.
anyone confirm this without ROOT?
Of course you can keep your files on the card. I have music and movies there. There are apps that detect the presence and allow you to save directly on the sd card - like the stock lg camera does. You don't need root to do any sorcery here for regular usage.

Without root and the permission fix I referenced earlier, you will have the stock KitKat permissions when it comes to apps reading/writing to the External SD Card. Some things work, and other things won't. You may or may not notice it, as it all depends on what you use the external sdcard for...
Hi. I got my tablet not long ago. But I have some issues with sd card and video. It behaves strange. Sometimes i can't play even regular video files on sd. Even same video file. It shows cant be played, even with different players. And i cant download files from torrents on sd. What can be a problem? Thank you.
I have sd samsung pro 64gb class 10.
Have you rooted and thus full access to the sdcard?

I am also new to the Android world but I think this is the problem. Google denies read write access to the SD card for non-Google apps, like file explorers or video players. Would be great if someone else can confirm

I guess your video files are corrupted. that usually happens with unfinished torrent's files. double check their integrity.
you just can't dwld directly to SD without root. use internal memory instead and move files to SD when finished and you'll be fine.

I formatted it on my tablet. I hope it did in right way. I didnt check on other devices. File size from 1gb to 2.5. Btw, I downloaded straight to sd card from PC a hole show season, about 9gb, avi format, when i just bought sd, and it works. All others video files in different formats doesnt play. I tried even to download from PC straight to SD card using PC sd adapter. Nothing.
P.S. File system exFAT on sd. Checked on pc

And it looks like I cant root the tablet, because i have T807V 4G. I couldnt find any root methods for that model.
That's really very strange and I am running out of leads. last thing I would consider is to format the SD using sd format tool as regular fat. but it's just a shot.
try to get another sd just to eliminate possibility of device's fault.
hope anybody can spot what we are missing here.
I am not awared about rooting cause I'm looking for a knox 0 way. check cf-auto root thread and an expert user would help you.
