[Q] Reboot Recovery: Secure boot error? - Sprint LG Optimus G

Hello everyone!
I rooted my phone a few months ago and attempted to install a recovery manager (TWRP) through goo manager. I gave up at the time because it wasn't working, and it wasn't that important to me at the time.
I return today to try to fix the problem. I launched goo manager again and installed TWRP through it, and it said it did so successfully. However, when I click reboot into recovery, it says hidden menu has stopped working, and then it shuts off. When it starts turning back on, it says..
"Secure booting error!
cause: Boot certification verify"
At that point, I must hold the power button and restart the phone into its normal operational state. I would really like to overcome this issue but I have no idea what would cause something like this! Any help would be much appreciated.
Thanks,
Tevin

you have to be unlocked as well to use custom recovery. search freegee in the app store and use it to unlock your phone plus it installs a custom recovery at the same time!

Hey thanks a lot! I did what you said and I am now running perfectly. Thanks a ton man!

Install FreeGee from the Playstore.
If your bootloader is already unlocked then you don't need it.

I am stuck on booting with secure booting Error!
I understand the problem, but now that I''m stuck, I cannot get into the phone to run freegee. Pressing the power button only returns me to this loop.
Any advice greatly appreciated.

Did you remove any apps? Is FreeGee installed already? We need to know this stuff.
Try holding the Power button for 20sec. That should turn it off. Then power on again.

Boot verification error
Secure booting Error!
Cause : boot certification verify
Heres the situation. I just flashed cyanfox or whatever its called. I cleared the cache, user data, and dalvik cache. There is no FreeGee. Assume i have not done anything except: flash TWRP(which failed to recognize touch screen properly), flash CWM, transfer CyanFox-geefhd-050913.zip, gapps-jb43-20130726-signed.zip, E980-MODEM-BM9615A-CWM, and then install all 3 of them in the order presented.
I then cleared applicable caches and data then rebooted with CWM.
When i hold the power button to reboot the device i get this error.
When i remove the battery i get this error when it tries to boot up.
How do i... un-**** this.

First, is you phone Sprint? Those files you're trying to flash are not Sprint. I'm guessing it's international version but I'm not sure.
If you are on Sprint, then you'll need to use LGNPST or the LGFlashTool to restore your phone.

Thanks! Helped me a lot!
Found "freegee" in the play store and it worked awesome!!! Thanks a lot.

soft bricking and cant get to recovery or fast boot PLEASE HELP

so i just ran LGNPST to get to ZV7, then i updated to ZV8
once i was on ZV8, i rooted and unlocked bootloader successfully using GAIO v1.50
i'm having problems booting into my custom recovery TWRP, after i install the custom recovery using GAIO
i try to shutdown the phone and boot into recovery, but every time i try i get a quick screen of the lg logo then it goes black and it doesn't load the os.
i cant even get to fast boot, so what i've done from here (the past 5 times) is i run LGNPST again and start all over again.
i tried the FreeGee method of installing the custom recovery but the results are the same..
any ideas?

If it says your phone is unsupported then you are trying to load cwm on your phone which shouldn't be needed as free gee should load it on your device(if I remember correctly. Been a while since I unlocked). He is saying that he used it to boot into recovery not load cwm.
I assume that's what he is saying and you are doing if I'm wrong feel free to correct.
You could also install ROM toolbox scroll to the very bottom of the first page click Rebooter and click reboot recovery. That should hopefully take you to cwm where you can flash recovery.

i tried using rom manager to kick me into recovery (chosing trwp recovery before hand with freegee) before and it did the same thing,
rebooted, showed lg logo for a split second, then black screen. i just did the whole process again of using LGNPST to get to ZV7, then i updated to ZV8 then free gee to give me twrp then rom toolbox to kick me into recovery and its the same thing! black screen!
i also tried BEFORE doing freegee to go into recovery after the LGNPST to see what happens, and it just took me to normal recovery.
so my issue has to be with freegee..
should i LGNPST again to get me back up and running and THEN uninstall freegee, reinstall it, and choose clockworkmod as my reovery?
maybe is trwp just failing to load? what are you guys using?
{guide} soft-brick fix
Happened to myself as well. Follow these steps from AdriVelazquez.
Fixed it in a jiffy!
Accessing Recovery Screen (First Step if you have bricked your phone)
This is our initial step for any problems that might arise. If you can access recovery, usually you're in a perfectly fine situation.
1. Power off your phone by holding Volume down & power at the same time.
2. When the screen shuts off, switch to entering fastboot by holding Volume Up & Power. Release immediately once you see a black screen with some text on the bottom.
3. You should see a black screen with some text at the bottom.
4. Press volume down 2x and then the power button.
5. You should see either TWRP or CWM recovery.
6. Wipe Cache, Dalvic Cache, and Factory Wipe
7. Flash new stock zip. Wipe caches again.
8. Restart.
My issue is after I use freegee to unlock the bootloader and to put on twrp recovery
At that moment when I restart my phone won't boot into the android os or fast boot
When I try to enter fast boot by holding power and volume up I never see any text at the bottom of screen it just shows the lg logo then a compete black screen
at this point I'm unable to even enter the OS. So the only thing I can access thankfully is Download mode.
I had the same problem. The way I fixed it was to lgnpst back. Root the phone and then run freegee. Then when I entered the bootloader it did the same lg symbol black screen thing. I held the volume up and down along with power while it was at the black back lit screen for about 20 seconds till it was completely off. Then I plugged it into my computer or you can use a charger to. Wait a few seconds and a battery animation should show up. Leave it on charge for a few minutes and then take it off and turn it on and you should be good to go. I can't guarantee it is going to work but it worked for me and I found it just by trying different things. I also read about someone else mentioning what I did in another soft brick post. I also read that shelnut2 has a special freegee version that you can only get from him. You can try him in irc. I read he dose not want it posted because it could permanently brick the phone.
-Frank
yeah... this is exact same problem that I had before..
You nees to go optimus g IRC channel and talk to shelnutt2 that you are having problem with unlocking bootloader. He will help you nicely cause he is super nice!

[Q] Secure Booting Error problem ("Device UnLock!!, so Boot Success!!")

Hey everyone. Out of pure desperation, this is my first post here because I'm absolutely at a loss of what to do.
So I first rooted my Optimus G Pro with Super One Click, then used FreeGee to get CWM Recovery on there, which I heard unlocks the bootloader, too. I then tried to flash the CyanogenMod ROM on this forum, and didn't have any "errors" during install. After this, however, when I rebooted, I was simply met with the "Secure Booting Error: Device UnLock!! so Boot Success!!" message.
I can access CWM-based Recovery 6.0.3.3 still, but can't find a way to put files onto my SD card now. Any ideas? Can I fix this error? Should I just reinstall stock? If so, where do I get it, and how can I put it onto my SD card?
I'd really appreciate any help, guys. Also, if you for sure have a way to get CWMRecovery to boot up, I seem to only get it going with luck.
Thanks for any help or input, guys. I'm pretty distraught, especially since this phone is so new.

So I've decided I'm okay with going back to Stock Rom for now. If I can't access the phone via USB (at least from my computer) what choices do I have? I'm looking in sideloading. Does that seem pretty alright?
You are supposed to get that secure boot error message when u unlock bootloader and when u flash cm10.1 or any 4.2 rom your SD card becomes a file called 0. It can be accessed in a file manager that has root access and it will b in a mnt. folder. It takes a while for cm to boot so after the lg logo it should b around 5 minutes of black screen.

Okay, so I guess I'm not worried about the boot error message anymore, but I can't seem to get anything to happen. I get the LG logo with the error message, then nothing. I waited about 8 minutes before to no luck. I DID see the CyanogenMod logo once or twice, but it just stalled and didn't do anything. I'm thinking it's a battery thing, but in this state, I can't seem to find a way to charge it.
I did a few different methods of trying to reinstall stock rom (since I'm thinkin now I'll just wait until an official release of CM is available). For the LG Flash Tools version, it's saying my BIN doesn't match with my DLL or something (I'll be more specific when I have a chance). When I do the R&D Test Tool, it says my battery doesn't have enough charge to go through with the update (which is what's making me think my battery is gone).
Right now I have my phone plugged into a wall outlet with CWMRecovery open, because I read somewhere that you can charge your phone that way if you need to.
I'm kind of at a loss, guys. Any specific ideas or help?
I understand that this error is normal as it should be: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=45094932&postcount=148

faced the same issue a while back.......... I had to flash back to stock, reroot and install lokified cwm from freegee. But while doing so, do not disable LG security. After that, I can access recovery normally. BYW, this happened when I flashed 4.3 based rom from a non-loki supported cwm.
Hope this helps...... BTW I am using E988.

Hi I rooted the phone, then install the FreeGee , and always start the phone in recovery mode! what can I do for that start with the system normally and not the recovery???
Thank you!
I suspect that FreeGee does something wrong to our devices!

same error on F240K E988
Is there any solution for that?
You must flash it back with lg flashtool

That message only says that the bootloader is "unlocked." If it didn't say Boot Success then you'd have a problem. After a fresh flash it takes a few minutes before the phone is usable.

Yes, after the bootloop problem, I have flashed back with lg flashtool, but i hope will be a solution for that bootloop problem...

reflashing a recovery fixed my recovery bootloop
was using philz_touch_6.15.4-e980 when this happened and I'm not sure if reflashing the same recovery would have fixed it
I had TWRP-2.6.1.0-E980-LOKIFIED-E986HACKED.zip on sd from here so I flashed it and restarted recovery again but after that it booted normally

For real? DO NONE OF YOU KNOW HOW TO SEARCH?!?!??!?!? There are 2 threads I created, one in general. One in Q&A. Read through those. There was no need for you to flash back to complete stock. I guess that's what y'all get for not searching (@@)

Any hope for 3rd party rom to F240s/l/k users?

There are recovery available for F240 users, rom for E980 is exploding. I am very sad to see myself being left in the dark....I almost want to flash the E980 into my F240, let it work or die, once and for all....
actually users have reported using cm 10.1 and 10.2 roms on f240 models.... also AOSP roms for e980 don't flash a modem so you don't even have to do that..... but some people have suggested to wipe internal memory or internal sd card when moving from stock to aosp roms..... happy flashing.... don't forget to share your experience

OK, i did not flash the recovery because i did not think there are any rom out there to try.
Since the Roms for e980 seems working with F240, now the recovery is flashed into my phone. So far, doing back up in CWM, and downloading the PAC rom for testing.....
wish me luck....if I dont come back again...that just means my F240s bricked....

yes probably you need to circumvent bootloader security and freegee will do that...do root first and install busybox
keep trying......when i was doing it gave me some error over wifi i switched to mobile data and it downloaded fine ...... i don't why but that actually happened and doesn't make sense..

I used to be able to see "secure boot error" but not after freegee. Put it this way, i never able/have a chance to boot into recovery after freegee.
my phone cannot boot into rom or recovery....just a LG logo after pressing the power button...
hold volume down and power together will have a message of factory hard reset come up. I hit the "power" for factory hard reset, but still, nothing happen.

I used to be able to see "secure boot error" but not after freegee. Put it this way, i never able/have a chance to boot into recovery after freegee.

That is strange you should see a secure boot error after freegee worked
Secure boot error
Cause device unlock so boot success
have you tried the button combination to get into recovery?? if that fails your option maybe to download LG flashtool connect your device in download mode and flash stock rom and then start again
what I suspect is that freegee didn't install properly
here is a link for stock ROM and MODEM just in case

replace the ROM with your own........I don't think you have you flash your modem/baseband
Never use Rom manager to boot into recovery unless you're using THEIR recovery. I recommend using Rom Toolbox or quickreboot.

Thanks for your help, I was able to rescue my GPro with the files you linked. Now Rooted and Freegeed, I am able to get into the CWM recovery by pressing POWER + Volume UP + HOME together.
Now doing back up in recovery, and going to flash PAC again.
This return to stock is a lot more complicate than Samsung.....i remember it was very easy when I mess up with my Note 1.
I will come back for updates.

Problem Rebooting to Recovery

I'm having a problem with my rooted and previously unlocked Optimus G on Sprint. Shortly after I bought the phone, I unlocked and rooted, but never got around to flashing any ROMs.
Then, about a month ago, Sprint sent out an Android update that seems to have broken the unlock. I believe that this undid my unlock and root, but I was able to recover root via Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper. However, that app didn't seem to restore the recovery, and I have since tried to install both TWRP and ClockworkMod Recovery via goo.manager and ROM Manager respectively. In both cases, the recovery is downloaded and appears to install, but when I then try to boot to recovery, whether it's via goo, ROM Manager or Quick Boot, it fails.with the following message on the screen with the LG logo:
--------------------------------------------
Secure Booting Error!
Cause : boot certification verify
--------------------------------------------
If I hold down the Power button, this message goes away, the phone reboots into LG stock Android and everything works fine, including rooted apps.
What's the best way to restore a working Recovery to my phone? Many thanks in advance...
If you have root, then just run FreeGee. Or LGNPST teeny bins. I'm assuming you don't have fastboot.

Thanks for the suggestion!
I subsequently found another post (searched using the error message that appears on the LG logo boot screen). It suggested using Voodoo OTA Rootkeeper to remove root, then use Framaroot to restore root, and finally use Freegee to unlock and install TWRP.
Now, I can boot into TWRP Recovery without problem.
Thanks again.
