Stock ROM - Turning off Auto Brightness

Is their a way to turn off auto brightness? It is very annoying seeing the brightness level change so rapidly and I can't believe SE haven't picked up on this problem.
How do you guys manage with it?
Search the market for "Disable Auto Brightness Xperia", you'll need root though!

Is it something you use? Do you notice the rapid brightness changing with autobrightness on to?
Thanks
Does anyone else notice the rapid changing of brightness?
Thanks
I dont have an automatic brightness option in display settings..

Because there isn't.
I was just about to say... Cause I'd have it on and I can safely say there's no option for it on STOCK... It's manual control.

Auto Brightness

I cannot find the automatic brightness on my xperia ion..i just updated to ics..anyone can help me is highly appreciated..
isn't there for anyone that i know of...
Yea no auto. I have not really found it to that big of a deal. What I do is set my brightness where I want it and for the times I need it to be bright I use the toggle on the power widget. It will toggle to full bright or back to you setting. Don't find I use it often except for when I am outside on a bright day.
I read something about the ion not having an auto brightness feature. If it wasn't on the ion pre ics then it definitely isn't gonna be on it post w/ ics

there is no auto brightness as we usually see on phones... the ion has like an auto brightness like their hdtv, where you set the brightness you want and it auto dims depending on the amount of light on the sensor... hope this helps, but this is what i have experienced from their xperia android phones from 2.2 and up
In ics to activate the auto control of brightness use the tools widget for brightness. Turn on then turn off. It sets at about 20-25% but if you flash light on & off the sensor, the screen will dim and brighten.
Using my ion by the window just now I watched it go dim about 5-6 steps and back with cloud coverage of the sun.
It doesn't say auto anywhere, in specs or in phone. But when the screen brightness goes up and down by it self I call that automatic

Sure enough I just tried it and it does change. Though as with all Sony devices it seems they could make it a bit smoother.

It does have auto brightness. It's always on with no way to turn off. Yet. I'm still searching for a way.
Edit: We're working on this problem in the q & a thread, BTW.

Is it possible to have auto brightness?

Can Gio able to have auto brightness?
Thanks~
auto brightness needs brightness sensor which is absent in GIO..so sorry mate no its not possible..auti brightness is a hardware issue
-Rik[Rittik]
Not possible cuz gio doesn't have a "ambient light sensor" hardware which controls the auto brightness feature.

[ION] Totally disable auto-brightness on Stock ROM?

Hi, guys.
As you'll already know, Xperia Ion Stock ROMs have no auto-brightness toggle on settings, apparently. And even if you use a 3rd party app to fix the brightness at a value, it keeps blinking around that value according to light sensor.
Light sensor has always been told to be such a battery-drainer, so here's my doubt:
Would it be possible to create a mod, app, flashable ZIP or something to disable that auto brightness feature at all?
Thanks in advance.
Lol? Light Sensor isn't battery drainer. You have wrong informations.

Light sensor constantly reads an input, that obviusly uses a substantial amount of battery.
Anyway, is there any toggle solution?
If you want to really disable it, try this -
0. MAKE A NANDROID BACKUP (VERY IMP)
1. Use a root file manager and go to /system/etc
2. Open hw_config.sh
3. Search for this line - echo 1 > $dev/lcd-backlight/als/enable
4. Change 1 to 0, then save and reboot
5. Hopefully it should disable als now.
Thanks for the method! But wouldn't that disable brightness at all? I want brightness on, but light sensor-based automatic brightness disabled.
Greetings.

No no, you can adjust brightness in settings. It only disables the ALS sensor(Ambient Light Sensor). I have tested it myself.

(Q) How to Check if Ambient Light Sensor is working?

Hi Guys I just wanted to know if Ambient Light Sensor is working or Not, As I have enabled Developer Options and in that when I press Manufacturer Tab then I see the Hardware Testing.
When I press Ambient Light Sensor it shows 0.0 , is it same for everyone or just me?
Also How can I test that Ambient Light Sensor is working or not?
Thanks and Regards

It's highly directional. If you're in a dim room, it will sit at zero until you aim it at a light. It's not very sensitive in low light, but past some threshold it will jump up. If you can't get it to change when you shine a light on it, I think you've got a problem.
Working for me in my office ...depending on whether I cover the light/lamp or not the ambient light sensor reading is changing...even when I just tilt the watch a bit....I am on 5.0.2...never checked before...
