I am planning to root my Tmo SGH T889 soon. I have read and re-read this thread by MrRobinson :http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1975560 I feel most comfortable with his method - and I would also like to keep my N2 as stock as possible.
However I have a couple of questions before I root - my only purpose to root is to be able to use the Hotspot feature, which is currently blocked by the carrier (I had it working on my MT4G and would like to get this feature back) - I read through the entire thread mentioned above but could not figure out, after rooting how will my ability to create a hotspot be effected -
1.) will the stock hotspot app work? or will I need to disable it and use another app? I am not clear - and since this is the only reason for me to root, I feel better asking before rooting.
2) I currently have 4G LTE - will this get affected?
3) I may be tempted to remove the spyware (CIQ) software but I have no idea how.
I am not a developer by understand technology somewhat and have rooted BN Nook Tab successfully in the past following directions from here.
Thanks in advance for your response.
Hotspot will work if you have tethering on your plan. Otherwise use TrevE mod for wifi tethering. It is easily found in the forum.
MrRobinson will not affect your lte connection.

Thanks Coug76. I think I'll stick with stock for now and just get a tethering plan from Tmo
I chose to forgo the plan change as I'm grandfathered into my plan and don't want to change. TrevE mod works great for what I use it for. I just don't tether to a pc.

New to T-Mobile coming from an unlimited Verizon plan with native unlimited tethering courtesy of the custom rom on my S3. Now that I have the Note 3 what are my options? I have rooted the phone but not applied any rom/recovery/bootloader.
- Native tethering cuts me off at 2.5 gigs for the unlimited plan, do I have that right?
- Wifi tether from the market does not work, tried it...
- Foxfi would beat the T-Mobile tracking allowing unlimited tethering?
- Would a custom rom delivery unlimited tethering from the native app?
Hey, I have been looking for a way to tether as well and I just found it. I am running the lastest version of Darthstalker ROM version 5. It has native tethering. Once you get that installed, go to your APN settings and change APN protocol from IPv6 to IPv4/IPv6. If you need any help, please let me know. Good luck!

Now I could already use the native tether (even before rooting) but there was some limit from what I read. Has anyone hit that limit?
Does using the rom allow you to bypass the limit?
I don't know for sure on the Note 3, but on my Note 1 with CM10.2 (now CM11) I am able to tether as much as I want on a non-tethering prepaid plan. When I try the same thing on my Note 3 (using N9005 ROM so no T-Mo modified tether menu) it successfully connects the laptop but only ever goes to the T-Mobile account login website when I try browsing. I tethered on a train ride last weekend and had to swap my SIM over to my Note 1 for tethering. Is this due to the IPv4/IPv6 issue? I have the Note 1 set to IPv4 because the CM10.2 ROM crashed on IPv6 randomly.

I believe T-Mobile gives you 2.5 GB of free tethering. When I tether it uses my unlimited data. I checked my plan online and it said I used over 38 GB of data.
Edit: I forgot to mention that you have to use a browser spoofer to prevent tmobile from knowing you're tethering. I mainly use Chrome browser and I have it set as if it's android.
Sent from my SM-N900T using xda app-developers app
Just got my Note 3 today I just had to make new apn. IPv4 is default I am using a vpn. Stock apn settings wouldn't let me connect.already used up my 500mb and still going strong
Hey guys, I successfully running Sky Note G2 Note 3 edition on my Tmobile phone. I chose this ROM because of it's Note 3 apps/abilities. (Not sure if any Tmobile ROMs can do that)
Anyway, with it being an AT&T ROM, my phone model shows up as an AT&T phone. Now I'm not bothered by this at all but I sure would like to get wifi calling and mobile hotspot back if possible. I heard you could do a build.prop edit? Any of you ever done it?

I'm running the same rom. I've always edited the build.prop to change my phone model. You can use either a build.prop editor from the Play Store, or do it manually. I used ES File Explorer. I think the one you're wanting to change is "ro.product.model=Samsung SGH-I317". Search for that line in your build.prop file.

Changing build.prop will do nothing to get WiFi calling into that ROM. The base ROM has to be a tmo stock based ROM DN3 is definitively NOT a tmo stock based ROM.
While I have not used DN3 I think hotspot is in it IIRC. Check out the settings in wireless and networks > more > regretting and portable hotspot. You might be able to get it to work from there.

Hmm I am getting attached to Sky Note Air lol, if DN3 doesn't have those Tmo apps then no point for me, unless DN offers other benefits that Sky Note Air G2 doesn't.
Any third party programs I can download to get tethering and or wifi calling?

IIRC tethering is already there.
Wi-Fi calling on non T-Mobile firmware will *not* be the tmo Wi-Fi calling. Will not. Locked down. No chance. Not happening. Doesn't matter how many times the question is asked.
Best you can do is something like Skype, Tango, Hangouts etc. They are not T-Mobile Wi-Fi calling. I don't bother with it if it isn't the real thing.

What's up,
Has anybody figured out a way to tether LTE data through our galaxy s7 actives without having to activate it through att? I have used fox Fi on previous devices as well as custom Roms and tweaks to get this feature working so I can use my unlimited data to its potential while on longs trips with a tablet. Any help or pointers would be greatly appreciated!
Cheers

I think sidesync is your best best. It's worked on my s7 edge, note 7 and now s7 active. It's not wireless, but it does the job.
there is a way to do it using an att apn and then once the hotspot starts up, go back to the apn and then switch back to the original.
it worked back when i had the s7 active.

**UPDATE** I have wifi tethering working via the root method as described in this method.
https://forum.xda-developers.com/s7-active/help/samsung-galaxy-s7-active-root-t3473649
Once rooted you will have to install the Xposed framework, and activate the "X tether" module which can be found in the root thread. Once that has been activated, you will be able to use your phone as a wifi hotspot without activating the annoying ATT plan :good:
odd, as im in UK... (on three) using my Active, my mobile hotspot works with the inbuilt stuff from settings ! .. no problems whatso ever!?..
Yup I'm currently not rooted, I got into my settings, Connections Mobile Hotspot turn it on. I've never had to pay extra for it or anything it just works on my S7 Active and I use it a fair amount.

I have unlimited data but can't tether...
When you sign up for At&t unlimited data plan, they take your ability to tether. Will rooting allow me to make my phone a mobile hotspot while I'm still on an unlimited data plan? If so, could someone point me in the right direction please?
Hey everyone, @xdabbeb was kind enough to modify the original 13B hotspot provision for our phone. I know people have been having issues with data packet drops and other hotspot problems with the modified LG G3 hotspot provision that we've been using from the other hotspot thread, and this might fix these issues. Replace apk in the system/app/HotspotProvision folder, set permissions, and reboot.

OK, Thank you... This is the only feature I wish my LG4 had as I still have unlimited data grandfathered in.. Looks like its time to do the KDZ method finally.
I didn't realize this existed, much better to use the native app and modded for unlimited access. I've had to reinstall this app because I went to 13b. On a separate note, I got a warning message that requires a Verizon LTE SIM to use the hotspot, but it allowed me to use on AT&T 4G (HSPA+) on grandfathered unlimited data plan. Thanks for the thread.
now usb tethering is working too. thanks
I know this is an old thread, but I wanted to report this file worked for me with the 2BA firmware. I just switched over to Red Pocket and I was having issues with the regular hotspot application functioning (Verizon restrictions), but this let me use the hotspot once more. I'll be switching over to the GSMA version next month, hopefully it will continue to function. Thanks!
Is this possible and could someone post a guide or links how to do this process after root please. New to this and just want to use my hotspot for net access because in rural area.

Looks like tha thread is about enabling tether while OP was asking about bypassing throttling on tether. I am also interested in bypassing throttling but haven't found any real way that Verizon doesn't get past with its deep scans

I am on a grandfathered UDP on Verizon and I am using the MagiskHideProps method for enabling tethering and I have seen no evidence that Verizon has any visibility to my tethering activity. (My verizon bill each month indicates that I had no HotSpot activity - and I do use the hotspot several times each month)....perhaps this is an artifact of the grandfathered UDP - but those plans aren't supposed to even include tethering - throttled or not.
Thx,
S
guys my hotspot is unlocked and i just want to bypass the verizion throttling. with my unlimited plan i get 10 gb of data hs after that it gets knocked down to 3g. so i dont want to unlock hs i want to hide my hs useage.
How do I hide tethering in magestic hide and I will see if it throttles.Im also on grandfathered plan too.Sean

I didn't do anything specific to hide tethering. I enabled the use of the native tethering capability by using MagiskHideProps to add the net.tethering.noprovisioning = true. This bypasses the provisioning/subscription check to Verizon and simply starts the hotspot immediately. Using this method, I have never seen any evidence that Verizon "sees" my hotspot activity. My bill always indicates that no Hotspot usage occurred each month. Perhaps, by bypassing the provisioning check, Verizon does not know to "track" hotspot usage??? Not sure...
Thanks,
S
Sb was your hotspot unlocked and you get 15 gb a month? What is magiskhide props exactly?? What is your phone rooted with?

I am on a grandfathered unlimited data plan which does not include hotspot. I use the magisk to root and magiskhideprops to make the build.prop edit of net.tether.noprovisioning=true which allows me to tether. The forum thread I linked to earlier has more details and you can also find tons of documentation on magisk and magiskhideprops on the magisk forums.
