chronic problems with all DSP based EQs - AT&T, Rogers, Bell, Telus Samsung Galaxy S III

So have I tried several different 4.2 roms and DSP, awesome beat, acid audio, all with the same results. When I initially install google play music the sound is great, as soon as I advance the track or power cycle the rom, the same eq settings are giving me an over driven result. Lowering the volume doesn't have any effect and only a near flat eq will kill the over driven sound.
I have seen people slammed for for running to much bass boost and this is definitely not the cause in my case. With some roms I can wipe the app data and force closing google music will fix it for one song. Is this a known issue?

My mistake, sorry.

Anyone?

Well when I was running Aosp I was using the 4/5 rootbox nightly with KT kernel and kingbeatz. You can find king beats by googling kingbeatz s3. Remember to fully wipe and stuff so there no problems. Have great sound. Also use faux audio control

That worked worked perfectly. Thanks

A Plea to all Devs (have a Non-BEATS audio version of your ROMS)

All Devs I beg and plead with you to either have a Non-BEATS audio version of your ROMS or to have it as an optional add-on. I ask this because BEATS audio makes changes to all music you play and I for one along with many others do not like the changes it makes. It seems that every single new version of ROM that comes out has this built in. I have looked high and low and cannot find a way to remove it form the .zip file or even how to remove it after it is installed.
I deeply respect all the work that you do and am very thankful for everything you guys are doing to make our phones better. I understand many people are asking to have BEATS audio added and you are in turn abiding the request.
If anyone wants to know my reasons for not wanting BEATS audio I will be happy to fill you in or you can look at my post history.
One last Thank you to all the Devs for all your hard work and also thank you for even considering my plea, whether or not you are able to fulfill it.
Beats Audio is cool for people who swear by Skull Candy, I guess. Other than that... I'd rather have it optional please!
While everyone has their opinions, and yours is definitely valid, remember that these developers are developing roms based on what they want to make. If they want to put Beats in, its their choice.
Though I think it would be nice if someone would make the files/modifications needed to disable beats ourselves, its out of my knowledge to do so but that would be the proper thing to do rather than expecting developers to change their roms.

Master & Slave has that capability with his new rom paradox paradise. In order for you to activate beats audio, you need to use dsp manager. So there you go. Gotta love options
"Cocaine Is One Hell Of A Drug" You Know I Keep That White Girl
Team Kang probably won't incorporate Beats into their ROMs since they keep it close to stock but with common sense extras that appeal to everyone. As long as Juggernaut and its future releases are Beats-free, I don't see the need to flash anything else for myself.
And yes, Beats are for people with Skullcandy and lower tier phones/IEMs. I'm happy with my Panasonic HJE900K with Poweramp producing sound the way it should be.
What I don't get is why would you flash beats when volume + has beats emulation in it. It's not even all that great. Just really too much bass.
Sent from my SGH-T989 using xda premium
Beats Audio sounds terrible.
I agree. I flashed the zip without making a nandroid and now I'm wishing there was a zip to remove it. The only noticeable thing it does is increases the bass too much. I like bass but not to this level. Whenever I plug my phone into my car the bass is just overwhelming to the point where the treble is just muffled. Besides our sound card, if you can call it that, is already good as it is. In some sense its better than my 2022 MBP's output with the stock player.
I take it, Beats audio doesn't have the ability (in a system setting somewhere) to disable it? So you can go back to normal?
Download and run Darkside Digital Warfare. It does not have any of that extraneous crap baked into it. It will also be one of the best ROM's you will ever run as far as snappiness and battery life.
I have it running via dsp manager so u can enable and disable

So far it is my favorite ROM. I put this plea out because I still love trying out new ROMS from time to time and playing music from my device at work and in my car is a MUST HAVE, CANNOT LIVE WITHOUT feature. And Beats Auido ruins that for me. If only one ROM ends out not having Beats then that limits me to just one viable choice. As other have replied, I am not the only one that thinks this way.
But yes, thank you for the recommendation of Darkside, I have a Nandroid backup for that ROM that I will go back to if I don't find another Daily.
Not sure if SlickMod 3.4 has Beats but DSP Manager wasn't in the base install. Simply installing DSP Manager from the market doesn't work. I to like clean sound and found a workaround with Root Toolbox Pro which has the option to install Cyanogen's DSP Manager, apparently at the system level. The quality coming thru a Bluetooth FM transmitter to my car stereo is as clean as a CD played directly from the player.
A golden app worth mega bucks would be one that would raise and lower the volume depending on surrounding noise. A pink noise generator to set the eq for varied conditions. Hi-end Alpine car stereos started having that option in the mid 80's. The SGS2 has the hardware needed.
I found that if the CPU Freq was set low when first starting an audio file, DSP Manager would crash when trying to change a setting and I would have to reboot.

Why not just delete/disable the files that are required to make it work. Not the cleanest way to do things, but probably would kill the software from running, thus giving you what you want.
http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1440986
Scroll this page. There is one post with links. But instead of relying on a zip flash file, open up these files. Look inside specifically at what lib files or apk file in system are running and just delete them yourself.
Again, not the cleanest method of doing things. Or look for the references in build.prop. Most developers will annotate the build.prop file to specifically show some instances for the enhanced audio. Just simply try a quick edit and reboot to see that the audio is back to stock sound. Just a thought
Again, and I repeat this...Nandroid backup first. I don't need any blame on what I made you do

Notice: Flashables are divided into Post #1 and Post #2. Post #1 will contain all the information, misc & flashables for 4.2.2/4.2,1 and Post #2 will contain the experimental nightlies, take note all the latest will be the most recent upload. 4.2.2 builds start from V2B4
What This Mod Does:
Nexus devices have pitifully low volume. Previous fixes like the Volume+ app and Franco's app only increased the volume on music playback, or in the headphones, but did nothing for in-call volume or notifications.
This mod changes all that. It will increase ALL volume, across the entire phone: ringtone, music, notifications, loudspeaker sound, ear speaker sound, in-call volume, and headset.
Requirements:
-Rooted.
-Custom recovery like CWM or TWRP.
-Jellybean Deodexed OR Odexed.
-Custom kernel with high quality audio tweak enabled is recommended (e.g. Franco or Trinity or AK).
-Nandroid Backup, I implore people to have at least one recent one as this method is faster.
Compatible With :
-Universal for all kernels and ROMs.
-All major players, including: Google Music, Noozy, PowerAMP (see note below), Apollo, PlayerPRO.
Note on PowerAMP - To allow PowerAMP to be controlled by external DSP/EQ you must disable Direct Volume Control under Audio Tweaks in Settings.
Installation:
*Revert previously installed patch as necessary.
1. Copy zip to Internal Storage
2. Boot to custom recovery
3. Install zip from sdcard
4. Reboot
5. Choose EIZO ReWire PRO under Settings > Sound > Music Effects
Note: If you do not have the "Music Effects" submenu then EIZO should be enabled by default since it's the only DSP present.
FAQ:
What you should do:
Configure EIZO, Select it in Music Effects.
Refer to the Op for EIZO settings.
Practice tuning your own values. EVERY user has their own listening experience. What sounds good to one and not the other doesn't become the fault of the MOD.
Keep backups of your Alsa Mixer if you use call recording BEFORE flashing this MOD
Keep backups (The revert is safe) but I am not responsible for loops if you flash this on another device.
Flash the MOD after every ROM flash. Not necessarily kernel flash.
Search if your ROM has been mentioned. KEYWORDS are a must. Example is 'PA works' and the results will be displayed. If not feel free to ask and I shall assist you.
What you shouldn't do:
Test the loudness via Settings. There is an implemented system limiter so you can't tell the difference. Call yourself or sms yourself so you can know the difference.
Complain of distortion without testing your own values. I've set a recommend layout in the OP hoping it's to give you an idea.
Error 7, Error 7 is a halt procedure. Please debug the error and see what's written before saying Error 7 only.
Alternate flashing. (I know some of you prefer to flash the Gnexus mod on the N7 but doing so breaks the media codes, if you have the patience to swap the media codes in etc folder of the N7 then it's fine)
Don't use Noozy lockscreen controls, they're unreliable till a new app is remade.
Don't use compression in EIZO. Causes massive volume fluctuations as it was set to be an AVLS.
Please refrain from asking about PowerAMP as it denies the use of third party DSP's which make PlayerPro a better alternative.

NexusLouderV4B1 4.3 only
Completed
- Porting over libs
- Testing Xlouder libs
- Testing HTC libs
- Debugging & reloading of apps.
Missing :
- Since ROM's are still experimental, therefore these builds are considered experimental until proven stable.
- Lack of kernel with audio boost
Bugs:
- Raising the volume in-app (noozy) won't increase past 10/15, you need to tab out, raise the volume and accept to bypass the safety limit
- Bass needs retuning and so do some volume levels
- New codecs were added in 4.3, they need to be affected aswell and added to media_codecs.xml aswell as audio_config, atm they are't tuned
- Revert causes no audio, can be fixed by flashing your ROM again.
- Not compatible with PowerAMP yet.
Changelog NexusLouderV4B1
-Updated Beats libs
-Updated Soundcontrol libs
-Updated Dolby apk & libs
-Updated Codecs sys/etc
-Updated Alsa files & codecs
-Removed SoundEnchancements
-Added Samsung volume hacks
-Updated Volume.db, soundbooster.txt, media xml & codecs.
-Optimized battery consumption
-Updates core libs based on new CM10.2
TestBuild#2
-Fixes issues with DSP changes not taking effect
-Fixes issues with static sound
-Fixes issues with loudness fluctuation
-AwesomeBeats, EIZO, Dolby all work now
Will keep editing this post as more updates pursue---In the meanwhile

Running fine on AOKP. Had to clear data for noozoxide for all the settings to work.
Can't say I know what I'm doing though..The in-app settings for Noozy seem to sound much better than anything done in Noozoxide. Similar with Beats+Play music, both Beats and in-app Noozy seem to do a lot better than anything with Noozoxide.
Also, any way to get Beats/Noozoxide working with Gonemad? I assume not. Never heard of Noozy before it's a beautiful app, very glad to see it, although not as practical while driving. Gonemad gesture/volume key for track change support is hard to beat while driving. Thanks for the addition, I'll be sure to keep playing around especially in the car/with speakers, I've only tested with MEEI cc51 in ears so far.
...and here we go!
Yep, as the guy above states: if some of EIZO's functions appear to do nothing, make sure first of all that EIZO is set as your default equalizer. Secondly, be sure to delete its app data and that fixed it for me.
I've tried JB Louder with Stock, AOSP and AOKP ROMs and it's works perfectly on all types (from the ROMs that I tested anyway). :cyclops:
Enjoy MisledZ's work, it will ROCK YOUR NEXUS! :good:
I noticed a better sound quality but it's not louder even if I set it to "strongest".
I also cleared the app cache. I pluggin in an AUX cable from my car stereo and have to turn up the volume too high, that if switching back to radio it blows my head off....
The best solution on my old gnex was to flash franco or trinity kernel and use francos app to increase the sound output.

[Q] Rom/Kernal with the best bluetooth support?

Apologies for the noob question. I don't even know if a different kernal would have any effect on bluetooth!
Anyway, I've been running AOKP for the last 6 months or so and I absolutely love everything about it -except the bluetooth instability. When I'm playing some google music it will periodically lock up or drop the connection then reconnect or all of the above.
So, can anyone tell me which rom has the most stable bluetooth support?
I've installed the latest nightly of CM10 and I'll report back if things seem any more stable.
Thanks!

You may want to add model numbers of bluetooth devices or docks you are looking to use.
Thanks, when I did a search on the topic I thought I saw someone move a similar question to the general question section from the QA. Oh well I'll remember that next time.
Back to the topic at hand, I haven't had a chance to thoroughly test bluetooth but so far the latest CM10 nightlies seem very stable compared to my experience with AOKP.

[Q] Guys need some help/advice

There is something i really dont understand about the touchwiz roms compared to the jelly bean 4.2.2 roms in original development.. i listen to alot of music and i also play a few games here and there i have a deactivated device... but i love the overclocking and undervolting features from every rom that i can flash agat's recovery and kernel or blu kuban's kernel also (usually have it clocked to 50mhz-up to 1600mhz at the tops side because it runs like a dream) heres the problem yes i love having that feature but what kills it for me is i usually uninstall as much as i can from what i dont need in it because i am also on the uscc version of the e4gt (im on the SCH-R760) and then i proceed to install vepier4android also (link is down below for whoever needs to know what it is) i run both versions of it as well (fx and xhifi) along side the full version of poweramp off the market with dvc enabled and music fx checked in poweramp everything else off besides the limiter.. i cant get over the fact of how much better it sounds with every single 4.2.2 aosp/aokp/jelly bean rom out there in original development... but in android development touchwiz roms do not like this combination at all in any way.. i cant understand what it is.. the audio cuts out sometimes, treble and vocies cut down alot when bass hits (doesnt happen in 4.2.2 at all), just doesnt sit very well together.. also to add i unistall every other eq that i see with titanium backup and push both viper apps to system apps and still the same issue.. ive tried everything under the sun but cant come to a conclusion.. its killing me not having the extra cpu headroom from agat's and would seriously love some insight/explanation or possibly some ideas on how this could be fixed i will try anything to get this to go well together in touchwiz.. i can decompile and rezip roms and mess with settings before flash i can just about do anything just need to know what is wrong or what is conflicting with them or something... please anybody that has an idea let me know i would greatly appreciate it.. thanks in advance

Samsung adds in their own audio mods in TouchWiz, it really is just testing what works with what and finding what sounds best on YOUR device. All devices are different, that's why most include an app to tweak the sound. I love the Samsung Optimized AC!D Audio on my phone, it doesn't play well with my wife's E4GT, she uses Viper on TouchWiz. I haven't tried playing with AOSP Sound in awhile but if you try any of my ROMs they all have my combo audio mod on them. I've got a lot to say on this subject but I'll let you respond to see exactly where you are going with this.

that gives me alot more insight to the problem actually thank you lots bilg. but as to where im going with this mostly is i would love it so much to have touchwiz with alot of it taken out and zero audio mods so that the viper4android can be installed to where there is no issues like what i was receiving with me trying it or if there is a way to remove the tweaks from build.prop or elsewhere im sure i can do it myself i just dont know where everything that deals with audio mods (etc. acid audio) is located. and of course one of the overclocking kernels that reach 1600mhz or close (etc, agats and blu kuban kernel)

was xloud the only audio mod that you have added/or is in this rom all together in the first place?

Looking for a 4.2 4.3 rom or kernel, with loud sound mod.

As the title states, I'm looking for a rom or kernel that has a sound mod. I like Carbon rom but The music volume is too low for me -_- i tried a few roms and one had very loud sound mod only problem for me was it was a 4.1 stock rom and I'm not a fan of the stock look..
There's a flashable zip for increasing sound over in pacman 4.3. Haven't tried but couple users said it worked for them.
