I use T-Mobile Note2 in the US with T-Mobile service.
When I had a fresh installation stock ROM to 4.1.2, I did see the "Automatic LTE/4G/3G/2G" option.
In the last few weeks, I was in Taiwan and used local 3G SIM card there (No LTE/4G there). At that moment, the "Automatic LTE/4G/3G/2G" option was disappeared. I thought that's because I used different SIM card with different system.
However, when I'm back to the states, the "Automatic LTE/4G/3G/2G" option never come back with T-Mobile SIM card.
I didn't modify my phone, and all I did was just with different SIM cards from different countries/service providers.
Any idea to fix it? I travel a lot so wiping my phone isn't an option.:banghead:
What is your apn set to? The local card may have automatically changed it and for some reason is not changing back.

Well worth a shot. Are you in a custom ROM if so you could try to just dirty flash the ROM again

Thank you for your suggestion. I'm using stock ROM. After reinstall stock ROM again, the option "Automatic LTE/4G/3G/2G" option is shown, but still looking for an easier way to fix it.

I recently sold my Incredible 2 to a friend and he is trying to use it on T-Mobile. I know this is possible, but I have no idea how to do it. The phone is S-OFF by XTC Clip running a custom ROM. When he inserts his SIM it doesn't ask for the unlock code, how can I get it to ask? Is there something else I need to do? Help much appreciated!

It wouldn't need to if you did it via xtc clip. That's a hardware unlock so it gets the Sim slot at the same time.

So he doesn't need the SIM unlock code? I know the slot is unlocked, but the phone doesn't get service with his SIM card inserted. Is there a way to get the SIM card unlock prompt?

That I have no idea. Sorry bud, anyone else have any idea on how to get this done?
So he called T-Mobile and they told him it should just work if the phone is unlocked, like you said above. He got the IMSI number and is calling them back, I have never done anything like this before so I have no idea what I'm doing
Still nothing, can someone please help me.
Since it is running a custom ROM, does that ROM support GSM? I would try the phone with zeus or Andy Bones stock rooted ROM just to be sure.

He tried CM7 and another sense ROM, I'm not sure if either of those support GSM, but I will have him try out Andy's stock ROM in a few.
Any luck?

Also check the mobile network settings and see if it is set to switch between cdma and GSM. Actually if he is strictly on GSM then I would turn off cdma all together.

Does the DI2 has service at all or problems with data/mms only? Does the T-Mobile name show up as the carrier with the phone in GSM mode? For T-Mo, one has to subscribe or enroll in one of the data plan/option for mobile broadband access.
Is the T-Mo chip working or taken from another working T-Mo phone? Can you check for basic voice only service using an AT&T chip (prepaid or postpaid)?
Does it ring on incoming voice calls and answer? (Just starting with all the basics to try to eliminate the obvious ... )
If these checks are confirmed as functional - check and edit the APN and mobile internet/MMS settings (default locked to VZW/Vodafone ??) - changes made & saved?
Not all Sense ROMs are verified as GSM compatible (3.5 won't work, 3.0 is the highest with Sense 2.1/3.0 and hybrid usually with GSM functionalty) SR's Zeus V1.3 is good, same with andyBones's ROM or RMK's Ginger Sense released last year.
You need a P.U.K Code to unlock the apn side of the phone then input manually into new apn.

Why'd you use XTC clip instead of Revolutionary?

Here are some steps I used to help me use Incredible 2 for Tmobile
1. Under settings go to "Security" and "Disable SIM card lock" to enter the code. I bought my unlock code from ebay for $.99 from dr.unlockusa....others couldn't do it and refunded my money.
2. Make sure the back cover is on since antenna is integrated on the back cover. Also make sure that SIM card is inserted correctly...cut slanted side faces down.
3. Go to "Wireless and Network" and "Mobile Networks"....after your phone detects the sim card, you should now be able to click "GSM/UMTS MODE" under "Preferred Network".
4. After step 3, click "GSM/UMTS Options" and click APN settings. It should be blank....hit menu( it should be second button from left on the bottom) and add apn setting. Google APN settings for whatever network you're trying to use...either tmobile or at&t....and enter those settings....
5. Everytime you switch network or factory rest (done under "SD &phone storage) APN setting has to be entered again...it sucks...
hope this helped...
i have the gt-i9250 and i always used an at&t sim with it with out an issue, recently i wanted to switch to t-mobile (thinking the phone should be unlocked considering it was an international phone and was the yakjuxw than i flashed it to yakju which was wierd cause i had google wallet on it and it was working fine although i only thought it was compatible with takju, but anyway all and all i put it to the usa firmware of takju 4.0.4 not going to jellybean yet, but my issue is that i am not able to use the t-mobile sim card in it and i get this (look at screenshot where signal is) what does this mean and how come i cant get signal, when i go to settings and mobile networks it shows me the apn for t-mobile us but not selected so i select it than after i go to mobile networks and it shows t-mobile and at&t and when i click any of them they tell me its unable to connect and it cant connect to the network at this time, so what would this mean and how would i fix it so that i can use it with my t-mobile sim card, also i flashed the newer NA radio uglc1.
That is weird. It should work on either of them. It just means you have no signal. That is strange. You could've actually just popped the Sim right in. It didn't matter if you were using a ROM

Is the SIM activated for sure? I know when I switched to the T-mobile $30 plan it took it a good 15 minutes or so to activate, and then I didn't actually get signal until rebooting the phone for whatever reason.
Did you reboot your phone?
Although you can sometimes hot plug a sim card by turning on flight mode, taking the sim card out and toggling flight mode a few times, it won't work sometimes.
probably your cell imei not free and therefore can not change your sim.
There is an application called "****docomo" worth to release the imei. Make a backup just in case

Don't think he has a SIM unlock problem. Considering that it was working with AT&T, which never had a locked version of the GNex, I think he's having another issue.
I'd tell the OP to make 100% sure that his new T-Mobile SIM is activated and not defective, then try a few reboots and swaps back to the old SIM and do some troubleshooting. If it's the phone and not the SIM, its likely a mobile network registration error or an APN issue.
Looking in the notification bar, it seems like the phone doesn't think there's even a SIM inserted. Make sure you didn't damage a pin in the SIM tray, and that the SIM is properly inserted and clean. I don't think you'd get this error of "no SIM" if your phone was locked. If that was the case, the phone would recognize the SIM and prompt for an unlock code, which you're not getting.
Hey,
I bought a phone which was reported lost to att. Fortunately, it was unlocked by att before it got lost. Now I am trying to use that phone with other carrier such as Tmobile. But the problem I am facing is as soon as I turn off the aeroplane mode i get att's signals even there is no sim card inserted. And this is letting att to track my device (maybe?). So how should i gey rid off those signal that works with sim card... And i also want to use some other carrier on it.
Thanks for the replies. I have currently rooted the phone and installed Ariel ROM.

By aeroplane mode do you mean Airplane mode? For APN you should just be able to go to Settings>More...> Mobile Network> Access Point Names, however might be a little different since I'm running stock and you're probably still on touchwiz.
My wife has a Rogers Optimus G, in Canada. I have a Fido Nexus 4. We both got T-Mobile prepaid SIM cards for use on our frequent visits to the US. The problem I'm having is setting up the T-Mobile APN on the OG.
When I reboot my N4 with the TMobile SIM card in, it automatically sets up the correct APNs.
When my wife reboots her OG with the same TMobile SIM card, the APNs are blank. When I try to Reset APNs to default, nothing happens - the list stays blank. When we reboot the OG with a Canadian (Rogers or Fido) SIM card, it usually sets up the correct APNs on its own. On the rare occasion that it hasn't, Resetting APNs to default has worked.
I can manually create a new APN on her OG, copying the settings from my N4, but it's a tedious process, and moreover, it's not something my wife can really do when I'm not around.
Can anybody think of why this might be happening, or some sort of workaround? I've done a fair bit of searching, but haven't found anything.
She's leaving for Florida on Saturday, a solution before then would be great.
Thanks.

Thanks, that looked perfect, except for this:
NOTE: Starting with Android 4.0/ICS, 3rd Party apps don't have access to write APN settings, hence this app no longer works for restoring APN backups as a normal app. You can convert it to a System app using Titanium Backup on a rooted phone and use.

My Zenfone 2 always shows "emergency calls only" on the lockscreen and in the notification pulldown even when there's a working SIM in.
I'm on Vodafone UK.
Is this the same for everyone?

Rowbaggie is correct, when you put a sim card into a phone, there are 2 processes during this time
1) handset check the network and perform LU ( location update)
2) if it succeed, then it will pull out all profile details. the SIM card by default would have the postpaid, prepaid 3G, 4G APN in it.
by default network will automate append this APN so user does not have to set it ( unlike wap services)
my guess is that your APN got screwed up, you can go to your service provider website and check for the correct APN to use.
Or call them up.
By the way, APN is also known as Access point in 802.xx. in 3GPP standard it is call APN.
Thanks guys...but my api settings are correct. 3G and 4G works fine.

are you able to try this sim on the 3G/4G slot?
lets test it out to eliminate sim slot failing.
perform single sim one 2G first
then perform single sim on 3G/4G
post the result,
next try to put Sim A to 3G/4G and sim B to 2G slot
flip the case and post result.
sound like sim card is not attached to network properly. could be sim loose from slot. i can be wrong.
Ok last night I took sim card out of my phone, its Asus zenfone. Now today the phone won't even read the card ,what do I do?
