I just went to take a picture and noticed this white line across the screen. It appears on the screen and in the photo. It appears in portrait and landscape, camera or camcorder. It only appears when using rear camera, front is fine. I tried changing the camera settings, rebooting, all the basic stuff I could think of. I tried using a camera app from the market and ended up with the same result. I am rooted, but still stock. I did update to MA7 using something I found here at XDA, but I don't recall what it was. The camera was fine after I did it, I did it around a month or so ago.
Has anyone else encountered this issue or know of a fix?
I also would like some advice on what I should do regarding Sprint if I can't fix it. I've had Sprint for 10 years and never took a phone to be repaired or replaced in that time. I was wondering if it would be okay to take the phone to a Sprint store to have it looked at while it is still rooted? If taking it in rooted isn't a good idea, would this http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=2086769 be a viable option to unroot it to take it in? Lastly, rooted or not, any clue to how much it would cost? I don't have the TEP stuff.
Just found out it is still under warranty with Samsung, so I guess the same questions regarding Sprint I would like to find out about Samsung.

I just recently bought a used black myTouch 3G Slide, and it is in excellent condition. I only have 1 problem though...... My camera isn't working correctly. I have done some searching online, but I have found no solutions. Everyone seems to replace their phone by T-Mobile. Unfortunately I can't do that since I didn't get the warrant from the guy I bought it from. : / In an attempt to fix this problem I loaded a custom ROM. Cyanogen Mod 6 is amazing, but it didn't fix my problem. I even tried downloading FXCamera from the market, but still nothing. Looking around the net it seems XDA is one of the best forums for android users. Can anyone please assist me, or possibly link something that will help me fix this annoying problem?
Btw, hello everyone at XDA! I'm looking forward to learning a lot from this forum!
I myself probably cannot help, but I can be helpful!
From looking around, I think it might help others here if you describe what exactly is going on with the camera.
Is the screen blank? Does it force close? Can you take pictures, but they don't save or maybe they save as black image? What happens?
I hope that there's some sort of fix for you, since I can't help... but I can try to get more insight into the issue from you... and bump the thread so people can see and maybe help out!
When I take a picture it doesn't focus. Pictures up close are really good quality, but anything that is not right in front of the camera is blurry. I have auto focus on, and tried manually focusin but no luck. I hold my hand still, and I hold down the picture button to focus. It still takes crap pictures.

Sounds like a hardware issue to me, your focus is stuck/broken. Warranty replacement maybe?

Not to be an ass, but did you read my post? I said I bought it from someone on craigslist, and I don't have a warranty.

Yeah I didn't see that at first, sorry. Then aside from buying a broken slide off ebay and salvaging the camera from it and manually installing it into your phone, or paying tmobile to repair it, you're out of luck.
I agree with MusicMan374, it sounds like a hardware issue if you have auto focus on or it doesn't respond when you select what item to focus on using the screen (stock rom)
I just checked my front camera and it displays the picture in dark contrast and its discolored. Im running CM7.0.1.2. Any clues as to how to fix this?
Your camera is broken...you'll either have to live with it/not use it, or unroot, and take it in to sprint.
Thanks. I guess ill be going to the sprint store for a replacement.
Never a problem.
I had the same problem on my old evo, then it got stolen. -_- But it does suck, but you should be good on the replacement.
May just be a coincidence, but about 3 days after the OTA to GB, my camera started going fubar. Started with it just not coming up at all, black screen. If I went into apps and cleared all data and then pulled the battery, it would come up for a while. Then I started getting double exposures! Hooked up with a rep, they suggested resetting the phone to factory. I asked if maybe the program or SD card was wacked and was told unlikely. After several days, I finally gave up and sent off for an insurance trade-in. Anyone else having camera issues like this? I've had the phone for about a year.
Yeah, I had a similar issue. Search is down so I can't link to the thread I had started. I'll edit it in when it comes back up.
Basically, when I'd press camera the app would load but it would stay at the black screen...mine never came back. Sprint tech messed with it for over an hour...they ended up replacing the phone.
To me, it sounded like the the shutter wasn't opening...I could always hear a few clicks after opening the camera app, but when I had the black screen issue, no clicks. The OTA was not the culprit in my case even though the timing was a day or two around the OTA release.

This has been an issue since nearly day one. Out of the box; it took extraordinary photos with no problem. I previously had Cinema FV-5 on my Note 3 and it worked flawlessly. I installed it on my AT&T Note 4 and it worked flawlessly - for about a month. Sometimes; I could use the stock camera app and it took decent pictures. Then, both apps act as though there's no such thing as auto-focus. Sometimes; no focus at all. Eventually, after switching between apps, rebooting, or call my voodoo priestess, it will work fine. Sometimes yes; sometimes, no. Ditto issue with the AT&T Code scanner.
Anyone had similar issues? Advice? It's still under warranty, but I hate to have to do a rebuild if there's a quick fix.
Thanks!
I had a similar problem a while back. Mine would auto-focus fine but in the pictures I took, the edges of the pictures would be blurry. There have been known hardware issues with the camera in this phone. I would warranty swap it. But the first thing they will make you try is a factory reset to see if it fixes the problem. I swapped mine less than two weeks after bought it and have had zero issues on the new one. Hope you get it worked out.
I had the same issue. Had to call Samsung service center. They replaced the camera in my phone.
Sorry for the late response and "Thanks". For some reason, I couldn't log on from home this weekend.
I read a few more cases via Google, and one suggested the phone case. So; I took it out Saturday morning, but it made no difference. I went ahead and backed everything up and went through the arduous process of a factory restore. Snake eyes. Guess I'll have to swap it out when I get home. That just sucks.
I'm sure AT&T will try to "upgrade" me to the Note 5, which I don't want. They tried their hardest to get me to do that when I ordered the Note 4. I don't want a phone that I have no SD card to back up to. What they REALLY want is for you to back up to their cloud; which I can't do for security reasons. If the phone were to go tango-uniform; I'd be screwed. What is it that they; et, al. don't get? Not fond of the locked in battery designs, either.
Thanks for your inputs. Gave it a try. Just sucks.
Bad cameras modules were fairly common in earlier stock of this phone. I didn't realize it was still a problem. The Galaxy s7 WILL have sdcard support via the sim tray. So, like any business, I guess they do listen: but only to the bottom line.

A few days ago I received my brand new HTC 10 on contract from Optus. I immediately began setting it up, but a couple of days later realised that I had neglected to unlock the bootloader and root it. I was reluctant to void my warranty so didn't want to use HTC-dev to do the deed. In the end I just paid for sunshine and it was able to s-off and allow me to root without technically unlocking the bootloader, so I didn't even have to wipe data.
Anyway, I was just playing with my camera today and decided to try the front facing camera. I tried pressing the little circle-arrows button but it spun around and then nothing. The rear camera works very well, but the front facing camera just won't activate. The arrows spin but nothing happens. I'm just assuming that's what's supposed to switch cameras cuz... well... nothing happens. Wait... I actually think I tried pressing the arrows on the camera before s-offing or rooting, but iirc it locked up the camera and even killing the app and restarting didn't work because it would start up on front facing... think I just restarted it and then I could get to the rear facing and forgot about the problem with the front facing.
I'm no Android hacker but I know how to scroll through a log and by using catlog reader and starting the log recording then quickly switching to the camera and attempting to switch cameras a few times I managed to find the attached (full log is attached, screenshots show interesting stuff I noticed, may or may not be relevant).
As you can imagine I'm really hoping it's not a hardware issue and that someone can tell me what I could do to fix it, because it would be rather annoying to have to restore it to factory and s-on and all that just to make a warranty claim.... and also I paid for Sunshine so that would be a waste :/
Did you ever resolve your issue? I am now having the same problem. Also rooted with sunshine, so I might have to pony up another 25$ in the event of it being a hardware failure. Which I believe it to be based off of how the front camera has been acting the last few days.

@rcharliesam Unfortunately not directly. In the end I just reset it as much as possible (which involved flashing the original recovery back on and factory resetting) but in doing so I soft-bricked it trying to S-on (because apparently you can't do that), however I sent it back to HTC with the claim "the front camera was broken so I tried a factory reset but now it won't boot" and they approved the claim.
And yeah I had to find another $25 USD to sunshine it again. All is good this time though
Thanks for replying, I pretty much figured. I went back to s-on today. I am going to go through vzw to see if they'll swap it out first. Oh well.
