Hi, I unlocked my bootloader and rooted my htc one v last night with no problems or trouble at all,, everything went fine. I got superuser, rom manager, etc. but when I downloaded a custom ROM to put on my phone, the phone didn't boot into it correctly? The phone has a green progress bar below a picture of a android phone lying down, then when it gets to about 1/4 of the way in the progress bar, a red question mark appears above the phone, and then my phone turns off and turns back on into the regular stock ROM. and yes I flashed clockwork mod recovery to my phone before I tried installing roms. What am I doing wrong?!
Use twrp recovery, and if it gives problems again try to download the rom again

i tried recovering my phone with every thing possible but it wouldnt work. i tried to recover with a bunch of different ways, but i always get either the red triangle with the exclamation mark, or i get the red question mark while my phone is trying to boot up the rom. i think it might be a problem with the root...is there a way i can un-root and reroot it just to make sure i did everything ok? im pretty sure thats not the problem because the only thing i cant do is boot up custom roms, everything else works fine. i really dont know what to do with my phone,
Your problem here is the custom recovery either CWM or TWRP is not properly installed.
Read all those recovery thread on how to install recovery... never use ROM manager, it won't work
Or read this : http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1996665

No problem... just make sure you read also on how to install/flash the kernel/boot.img in that thread as this is another important task when using a custom ROM.

You're in recovery, press vol up and power and you get a small menu where you can select to apply the clockwordmod update.zip to reset your battery stats (assuming you're rooted)
Thanks so much. I thought something went horribly wrong.
My phone wasnt rooted, so i guess i shouldnt have even tried to reset the battery stats.
Thanks for the help.

Hi,
A long time ago, I believe I updated my HTC Hero with a custom ROM.
I currently have
- 2.1-update1
- SW: 3.32.405.2
I just sold the phone and tried to bring it back to factory settings.
But I can't.
It won't re-initialize and I can't even delete my GMAIL account.
In short, I don't care which version is installed, I just want the phone to be updated with an official ROM, so that its new owner can turn it on and configure it as if it was knew.
The phone is NOT rooted.
If anyone has a hint, I will consider it my XMas present.
Thanks a lot!

Either wipe it from recovery or use a RUU http://www.shipped-roms.com/downloa...io_63.18.55.06P_6.35.15.11_release_signed.exe
Look it up, it's easy.

Mine is doing this too,
I tried rooting during the downgrade process (Because I had gingerbread) next thing that happened was when it would start up, it would take a very long time for the white htc screen to show up, and would vibrate (constantly) for 2 full minutes. the white htc screen would then show "quietly brilliant" under the logo and boot. but now it's going to the phone with red exclamation mark in a triangle. Phone is not rooted, hit power and volume up, went to update zip, told me invalid...
what's next?
*edit*
p.s. htc inspire 4g.
also before black screen w/ triangle I ran hack-ACE to put stock ruu back.
restarted again, and now it's usuable, but still does the looooong boot up.
No touch Screen Sensation
Hi forum I am in desperate need of some help. I have an HTC Sensation with a non responsive screen. There was a software update I believe on the forum that claims to resolve this problem. I want to try an upgrade or something hoping my screen issue can be resolved. My problem is how can I upgrade a stock ICS firmware without the use of the touch screen or touch buttons. Or even root the phone from the boot screen.
Second question can I load my external sd card in another Android phone like to load the software on it and then insert it into the Sensation and then linstall it from the boot screen?
Thanks for your help

I think that my Htc Desire HD is rooted, but i skipped a step since it wasn't needed to flash a custom rom.
So im trying to get my phone into recovery mode to be able to get a custom rom but whenever i do that, its a black screen with a phone and triangle at the top right corner of the phone, and in the triangle there is a exclamation mark. What does it mean?
Thank You
you using ROM manager or are your trying to downgrade suing the basic recovery mode...if you are flashing a ROM then i would recommend you need to install ROM manager and get clockworkMOD recovery. This is the easiest way to flash custom ROMs if you are not experienced with the whole process.

You think it's rooted? Do you have an app called "Superuser" in your apps list?
I did something wrong i think, it was rooted and it had superuser and all. So i was gave up for a moment.
Then I unrooted with Visionary and rooted it again, and now i think it worked..
thanks for all the response guys!

It's possible it didn't complete the permroot cycle, or only a temproot was present. Either way - good news to hear it's now okay.
You need to do a Radio S-OFF in order to flash custom ROMs. You got a red triangle is due to the so called security by HTC is not yet off.
Get it done by using this tool here
All the best.
Thanks for all the help!
I don't think it completed the permroot. I fixed it now and have custom rom cyanogen something xD
it was the Radio s-off that was missing. Very easy to fix. Thanks for everything folks!

Not necessarily, the screen described is the standard recovery so obviously clockwork recovery wasn't installed wether or, as in this case, not you had s-off'd.

Damn..I'm having the same problem.
I used the Easy Radio tool and it still doesn't work. I also tried the EASY SOFF and it still gave me the red ! mark. I'm going to try Visionary.
Hi Young Cardiac
Are you sure that you're permroot'ed? In that case it shouldn't be a problem. By the way, make sure that you check USB debugging in order to allow the tool to work.
Setting >> Applications >> Manage Applications >> USB Debugging
CHeers.

Hey
I just put the PD98IMG on the phone and it gave me a fresh copy of the 2.2 froyo.
If I have permroot then after getting the fresh copy would I still be rooted?
I just got visionary and it says I'm not rooted.
EDIT: Yes I do have usb debugging on.
Is there any alternative to CWM?
Just did the following and I still get the red ! mark:
- Loaded the PD98IMG...
- Did Easy Radio tool and EasyS-OFF
- Downloaded Visionary, did temproot then did permroot..
- Downloaded CWM and rebooted into Recovery
Then I got the red exclamation mark. Damn this is really annoying! I hope this can be solved though.
I just downgraded to CWM 3.0.06 and tried to flash the Android Revolution HD and now I keep getting popups messages with a force close.
Just downgraded back to CWM 3.0.05 and then just went back to the stock rom and it worked! I think I'll hold off for now. Don't want to mess it up!
@@ You make me blur. Haha. Alright. Hope you enjoyed ur new Android Revolution HD ROM.

Hello guys im very new to Android and i want to ask something.
Maybe its a noob question but what i did it.
I S Off my Wildfire S and i Permanently ROOT it this is all i done till now.
I never put some recovery things etc.
So today i saw something that i want to install on my device but i need to put 1st my device in recovery mode and install it then.
So when i went to recovery mode 1st for few seconds its show me a black screen with device and green arrows like all is normal and after a second showing me BIG RED TRIANGLE like something is wrong so what i think is
I dont have a recovery?!
I mean do i need to put it by myself?! this is why im not able to boot in recovery?
And if im right can someone provide me i mean show me where to look for this TUT what recovery to flash and how im sure there already have a quide and etc.
If someone can point me out i want to understand more about this devices what this recovery doing exactly i guess its recover something and maybe i can do backup etc.
Thank you in advance
I have the same issue. I used the instructions and SW at htcdev to unlock the bootloader, which worked fine. Went to try recovery and had the same issue as above. Had to take out the battery to get the phone back.
Ideas?

Hello everyone,
I have been using this website to try out different things with my DHD. Last month I rooted the phone myself and ran jellybean on it. Then I wanted to try android revolution so i wiped that off and copied another rom in it. I went through the installation process but for some reason it did not work properly. Now when i start my phone it boots into recovery mode and if i select reboot now it restarts and shows the Green HTC logo with white screen and then the screen goes total black, as in black light comes up and stays like forever. I am a noob as its obvious so please help in as simple language as possible. Waiting for your suggestions.
Thanks.

Firstly I did look for similar threads but I couldn't find my problem with entering recovery mode.
So I get to the bootloader and I hit "recovery" to go into recovery mode to back up before I start flashing roms. All that happens for me is it loads into a black screen with a phone in the middle and a green arrow pointing down into the phone with two green arrows circling the downard arrow, then it flashes black, then comes up with the same screen except it's now a red triangle over the phone with an exclamation mark in the middle. I'm assuming this is to represent an error occuring.
The phone won't do anything after this and I have to restart the phone by holding the power button for long enough (7 seconds?). This brings me back into my phone as if I hadn't done anything. I don't want to start flashing things if I can't backup my phone, I don't know how to get around this. Oh and I have installed ROM Toolbox and the same thing occurs when trying to enter recovery mode through this app. Any help will be amazing!
P.S: My phone is rooted, and I left the bootloader unlocked, would not locking it after rooting be a problem? I'm new to all of this :/

I tried flashing CWR v 5.8.4.5 but that wouldn't install through ROM Toolbox so I tried TWRP v 2.5.0.0 (and the previous versions), none of them brought me any further than the red triangle :/
So I decided to try ROM Manager, I then flashed CWR 5.8.4.5 (successfully) and rebooted into recovery, it brought me to the circling arrows with a loading bar that got not even 1/4 through then it changed to a question mark over the phone and restarted itself within 5 seconds. This is the most progress I've made. Any ideas on what to try next?

try from beginning, take a cwm recovery into fast boot folder
place it there, restart your htc one v and goto bootloader then fastboot option
open command prompt there in the folder by holding shift key and type "fastboot flash recovery cwmrecovery6.0.3.3touch.img"

i dont know what the rom toolbox or rom manager does because i dont use much of these apps and rom manager had a great reputation on xda forums that it bricks the device....
try the manual way..
download revovery (appropriate) [would recommend cwm but twrp is also good]
boot into bootloader mode (I'm sure you know this)
connect device to the computer via usb cable
then paste the recovery image in th fastboot folder located on your computer (if u have a rooted device I'm sure u must know what a fastboot folder is..)
then rename recovery to recovery.img
then open command prompt
type cd C:\fastboot (C:\fastboot is the location of your fastboot folder on your pc.. it can be any other location also)
then type--- "fastboot flash recovery recovery.img" (but without the quotes)
your recovery wil be flashed..
there are other recovery flashing guides also u can refer to them in case u understand/are not familiar with all these things...
hope it helps..
good luck..:good:

Thanks Heaps! I did hear about how Rom Manager is infamous for bricking phones so I thought it would be safe enough to flash a recovery (it's not phone bricking stuff is it?) But Rom Toolbox is kind of a lot of different apps in one that seems pretty legit. To be honest I was just trying to be lazy and not bother learning all of this the manual way but it sounds like I might have to just do it the manual way haha, manual is often the best way with a lot of things anyway.
Thanks also for the little tutorial, you're quite right, even though I'm new I'm a fast learner and I've had plenty to do with computers so I know what all of the commands are doing and the terminology but thanks for covering the bases It's nice to see a noob friendly community around, not too common these days.
So yeah, flashed CWR touch, and got into it with no problem, created my nandroid with no problem. Now I'll set to flashing roms (the manual way) Thanks to everyone here for helping me you're all great
