[Q] root folder on SD card switched - Samsung Galaxy Nexus

hello
i run vzw gnex on 4.2.1 mmuzzy rom (just makes it aosp) and when i upgraded to 4.2.2, i believe my file structure on SD card is not working
there is a root folder now (for the sd card) but in the root is a folder called 0, which has the root folder from my 4.2.1 install and if i plug it into the computer, im unable to mvoe files out of the 0 folder or copy and i have no idea how to switch root folders for the sd card, which means ive lost all my data
if anyone can assist, it would be greatly apprecaited
thanks!

I sense this topic has been covered before.....about a million times ..hmmmmm

Just when you thought something was covered ad nauseum, a thread like this comes along.

This isn't a support forum and this very thing has been covered a million times. Just use the search button and you would find it. Nobody here is going to hold your hand while you sit there and do nothing for yourself.

It is along with the 682 other threads exactly like this one...
Your problem isn't new and you're not the first person to notice this. 4.2.2 has been out literally for months and this is a WELL documented issue.
This is why you're getting snarky remarks instead of assistance.
It's not a bug, it's a feature.

why are people being so unnecessarily nasty? you could just say "there are plenty of threads about this, just search" instead of condescending demeaning comments, which benefit no one.

On that note, you may want to peruse the forum rules stickied at the top of this forum, because the very first one covers this situation.
This is not a support forum for those too lazy or inept to do their own due diligence (not necessarily including you in that generalization). You're expected to put a at least a minimum effort into finding the answer- it really isn't that hard. There is no entitlement to being spoonfed readily available info that you are more than capable of finding with just a minimal amount of effort.

In a perfect world, you'd be absolutely spot on. The responses you've gotten aren't necessarily directed at you as an individual. Rather, you're seeing the cumulative frustration from the same thing happening over and over again.

the search button is something you should use (as its in the forum rules). you failed to do this, and this is not a new issue.

a lot of good reading. for the record this is why you never post anything on a public site that could be against you for some reason (ie all you people that are always talking about insurance fraud they can easily pull up the pages and if they get your ip address can normally get plenty of information on ya.
I never understood the hype to this anyway.

@OP
Thread moved to Q&A. And the answer provided was right. Most devs who had put out the hacks asked us to delete the threads since Sony was indeed launching legal attacks against devs.
@mattrb
No discussions about warez or warez sites are allowed in XDA devs. Take this as your first and only warning.
@egz
it just sucks though because all I am is a victim of bad timing. If I had just downloaded it days ago then I would have been in the clear. I have been busy for the past two weeks and now I am screwed. Could you offer this file to me. Do you have it?

Q&A Section can help you.
It's quite easy.
Google provided images of everything, with a handy script to make them all go.
http://code.google.com/android/nexus/images.html#mysid
Download the factory images package, command line into the directory, and run the script. "sh <scriptname>" should do it.
I forgot if it includes the tools or not, but worst case scenario, you'll have to get the android sdk downloaded also, then drop those images into and run the script from the platform-tools folder.
Try my guide. Its for the nexus s 4G but everything should be the same thing. Just make sure u put your phones stock img files into the adb folder.

Five other forums are not what they are talking about. On XDA, you are in a sub-forum of Samsung Galaxy Nexus, for only development. You will not be received well here.
Go Here and repost: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1431
Thats Galaxy Nexus Q&A
This URL is for the list of subforums in nexus: http://forum.xda-developers.com/forumdisplay.php?f=1336
And this is the forum sticky in this forum you should have read before posting:

Which says, don't post in this forum, there is a forum for posting.
EDIT:
I was bored so i looked around for you, in the Galaxy Nexus General thread (you've posted there before), at the top, there is a sticky called "NEXUS STICKY | USEFUL INFO", in there is this url with instructions for OSX: http://forum.xda-developers.com/showthread.php?t=1366806

Actually, you'll probably encourage more people to ask the wrong questions in the wrong place without looking for answers first. The answers you seek were already all over this nexus forum, had you looked and read everything you were told to read, you would have found it.
And had you posted in the section FOR questions & answers, you would have gotten an answer much faster, and with far less hate.

just help people out if you know what they're asking. if they can't bother to search thoroughly, what makes you believe they'll read a wall-of-text sticky? just clearly explain what needs to be done and everyone's life is much easier. you'll be saving them and everybody from the inevitable thread they'll create after not understanding or getting confused and doing something wrong.
my two cents. . . this is definitely one of the whinier device forums i've been on.

What makes you believe people who can't be bothered to use simple search features or read carefully prepared stickies that took time to create are auto-entitled to help in the form of a detailed answer?
Calling the folks who help others out in their spare time whiny because of some sarcasm doesn't do them just.

they're not entitled but it doesn't hurt to help. you have their attention and they're more likely to listen to you than a sticky they wouldn't even look for.
how long does it take to say "install samsung drivers for your galaxy nexus variant. hold both volume buttons down then hold power button at the same time. place cwm image in your sdk_tools folder, navigate to it using command prompt and plug your phone into usb. type 'adb devices' and hit enter to ensure your device is properly connected. type 'fastboot flash recovery [your recovery filename here].img' and hit enter. now you have cwm! now just search for a superuser .zip you can flash in recovery and you're good to go."
the other option is to just remain silent and let the topic get buried. both are better than whining, which is certainly what posts like "geez couldn't you check stickies? can't you click a stickies tab in tapatalk??" are. no doubt about that.
I would have just used a PC to search since you're going to need it anyway to unlock your bootloader.
Sent from my Galaxy Nexus using Tapatalk 2
There are simple rules required when using xda, one is searching thoroughly. Watch the noob video. Its seriously not hard.
And for something as basic as how to root your phone, you better believe that it has been covered.

Are you a NOOB? Ask any NOOB questions here

*NOOB FORUM FOR SGS3*
Xda community,
I decided to start this thread to help some newcomers along. When I was a NOOB, I had a lot of questions. I couldn't find the appropriate place to ask the questions, I didn't know how to use the forum tools, I didn't know which questions were good questions, I was worried about getting bashed by some senior members, and I became discouraged. Feel free to ask any questions in here. You will not get flamed for asking any legitimate question. I won't hold your hand.. If you have a question that is all over the Internet, I'll point you in the right direction and tell you how I found that information.
YOU KNOW YOU'RE A NOOB IF..
- You are new to rooting
- You are new to flashing roms
- New to adb, fast boot, drivers, bootloaders
- You don't understand the terminology
- You don't know the difference between a rom and a kernel
- You don't know how to use XDA forums
- You can't explain what rooting is and what it does
- Many more..you get the point

#2 Noobs can't find their phone on here...let alone know what development is..lol
#3 37% of people polled think that Mitt Romney was responsible for the death of Osama Bin Laden. 41% couldn't name our vice president
POINT BEING: Let's not give the general public undue credit
I'm trying to keep the crap out of threads where I want to read about actual development

Hey! can you tell me how to root the Grand and a good rom that works dual sim mode? Ive heard that CM 11 is good
Thanks a bunch!
well try this link http://www.kingoapp.com/ you can download it free but you have to enter a serial no. to get the phone rooted if not it wont root it just run and it doesnt root the device...
And for the Custom rom you asked.. I must say CM 11 does not support dual sim function neither any ASOP based roms have this function for the time being but try Pyramid_k3 rom and GENNXT SUPERIOR ROM. I've personally used these roms and they are really good. But be adviced that the device must be upgraded to 4.2.2 stock rom to run these roms
Good luck!
Galaxy Trend Plus
Is there any chance of porting the 4.4 rom from Samsung Ace Style (the new one) to Samsung Galaxy Trend Plus?
The hardware is the same, except for the RAM on Ace Style which is 512MB and Trend Plus is 768...
Trend Plus is currently 4.2.2 only, and have no custom rom
I use custom ROMs in my galaxy grand duos....but there is some problem with my ext SD card.....it keeps on mounting itself as read only....if I manually unmount and then remount it then it is rewritable but after some time it again mounts as read only.....any help plzz....

Hey!
I dont think its something to do with your rom since you have tried to format the sd via pc too.. What kind of format did you choose? Was it a Normal format or quick format? if its a quick format you did try doing a normal one which consumes time but it works? What about the maker is it a good micro sd card maker like sandisk or kingston etc etc...? it might be the prob cuz there are loads of fake sds in the industry sometimes they tend to go bad when it used in high data exchanges... Lastly have you tried uisng another sd card and trying to do whatever the process you trying to do?? if not try it then you can surely know its a sd card prob or not...!
Good luck !
I have not read the posts properly... Bt got 1 idea that ur card not detected after you format via pc...
Do one thing u must have formated using Normal settings... You were wrong here... Just format with FAT... Not with FAT32...doesn't matter if u do with quick format or normal format... But slow format is recommended...
