So I'm poking around my phone and I took a peek in my Data Programming menu (##DATA#). I find a Home SID/NID entry in Advanced... So I'm looking up what the heck Home SID/NID are and I find out that my phone is set to Kansas City, MO for my Home SID (which is 04139) even though I'm based in Detroit, MI (which is 04126 AND it's where I got the phone in the first place). My question is since I have my MSL I can change this value, and If I changed my Home SID to the Detroit one for Sprint since I'm with Sprint would it be safe to do so?
The next question I have is:
Are these the correct CURRENT values for the respective Home SIDs (provided that they could have possibly changed since I don't know god awfully too much about them and have no idea whether or not they actually could change...)?
Kansas City, MO - 04139
Detroit, MI - 04126
Both are for Sprint PCS.
I've been looking all over google but I only found one site that had listings that covered both my currently set Home SID value and the Detroit, MI Home SID value and I'm not sure about when these values were posted and I'm also not sure about how accurate they may be.

-EDIT-
Oh, and last but not least: I forgot to ask whether or not changing my Home SID value will help me get better signal around my area simply because my area really sucks for signal, and 3G data almost never has any throughput... it's comparable to dial up at best. I have an air-rave at my house so getting signal at home isn't the issue anymore, it's more about when I'm out and about and mostly for data purposes only...
Any help would be appreciated. :3
Sid/nid really doesn't matter anymore. It won't really help by changing. It's just a network identifier telling your phone what network to use.
If you're looking to improve, look at PRL's, since they drive the Sid anyway.
(And its set as KC since thats the corp center of the universe for Sprint. It's the default for your region. Even some in LA to DC will default to that)

Is there any trick to make 3G work on the dopod official rom on the AT&T network? I'm in southern california and can not get my phone to connect at 3G at all, even in the center of an area that's covered in dark blue (indicating 3g service availability) on AT&T's 3g coverage map page. I've tried forcing the band to UMTS and I just get no service. Is there some registry tweak or hack I need to do to make it work? I'm on the AT&T $19.95 unlimited media max plan. I get EDGE pretty much everywhere I go but no 3G. HELP
I was running the official Dopod release on my 8525 and UMTS/HSDPA was working fine for me, just as it has with all the other unofficial WM6 releases.
Did it ever work before? or are you just going off Cingulars Coverage Maps?
Try checking you connection settings

New phone
To be honest I just got this phone last week and I really havent had a chance to fully try it out, I'm coming from an 8125. I am pretty much going based on coverage maps which AT&T say they cover almost all of southern orange county. I work all over orange county and have yet to see any 3g service? As long as there is nothing special to change or configure on the phone I geuss maybe I'm just not in the right service area. Is there any other troubleshooting I can try? Some sort of debug mode? I did reset and reconfigure all my connection settings per the above reply, same issue.
Thanks
Did you look in the Wiki? Try this....
http://wiki.xda-developers.com/index.php?pagename=Hermes_Registry
Enable/Disable GSM/UMTS Band Selection
Cingular kindly disables anything useful about the network on the 8525. To enable the Band Selection Tab on your Phone settings page, set the following:
[\HKLM\Software\OEM\PhoneSetting\]
"ShowUMTSBandPage"=dword:00000001
Get your phone to display an H when HSDPA is being used
HKLM\SOFTWARE\OEM\RIL and set EnableHSDPAIcon to 1
There *must* be a way around this . . .
When I was in Arizona this winter, AT&T decided that because I had made too many calls off their network (I had the North American Plan), they decided to cancel my plan and gave me 2 weeks to find something else. I did - I went over to Verizon and got the same coverage I needed (Nationwide US + Canada) same minutes for the same money. However, Verizon is a CDMA network while AT&T is a GSM network - so rather than buy an HTC, I took a cheap phone and decided to use my Hermes (Cingular 8525) as strictly a PDA. As my service was cancelled, I removed the SIM card.
Now, back in the Eastern Time Zone, I find that the Hermes stays in Mountain Time Zone. Even when I make the change to Eastern Time, it reverts back to Mountain Time.
I figure that this has something to do with the fact that the phone part sets the time zone. I had tried, unsuccessfully, to hack the registry, but couldn't get the time zone to stay in Eastern Time.
Is there something that I can do change the timezone to Eastern.
Try going to Advanced Config->Phone->show NITZ page (change to yes) after all of that go done btm lefthand corner. It soft resets the Hermes.
After reboot go settings->Personal->Phone->scrool Tabs to Time Zones. Uncheck "Automatic change time zone and clock"->click ok. You are done
Thanks. However, I cannot locate Advanced Config. I inserted the old SIM card, and was able to go to the phone config and uncheck auto set TZ, but it still sets itself as Mountain Time.
Where is the Advanced Config found? I'm running Mobile 6, not 6.1.
Do a search in this forum "everything is here.
So I've read all of the claims that the EVO simply won't work if you're in an AWS market. Fine, no problem. Somehow i've managed to get it to work for me though! Well, talk and text on the android plan anyway. I still can't seem to get data working though :/ I was wondering if anyone could help me with this.
I started out with myn-WarmTwoPointTwo--RLS-4-Cricket-Zmod played around with settings for about 4 days and finally managed to get talk and text working. However, my "4G" radio would only take me to a webpage that asks me to sign up for clear internet service when I opened the web browser(Hmm i wonder what would happen if i signed in with my clear account, I'll try that in a moment).
Someone mentioned I go for JimminyV's cricket ROM. So i gave that a try and there didn't seem to be any difference at all, but i couldn't get a mobile network connection, so i'm thinking this ROM won't do the trick for me, I went back to twoPointTwo.
I've taken bits from all kinds of tutorials, including JImminyV's ROM post:

I keep getting error code 65, which with a little googling, means that there's an authentication issue, somewhere :/
[EDIT] I forgot to mention that ##778# and *228 don't work, and if i use *22804, I'll usually connect to Verizon Wireless' configuration menu [/EDIT]
I've tried to be as thorough as i could be. Please let me know if you have any questions for me and if you can help, THANKS!!!
I guess I can post this over at CDMAgurus too, but just wanted you to know, that i was able to log into clear with my account lol(i'd better check if i've been charged, or the lol will be on me.
Hey here, yes here, this is why:....
HEY HERE, YES HERE, THIS IS WHY:....
The reason as to why you only get talk/text on cricket with a dual band phone on a tri-band area/AWS is the following:
Your plan has a national access/roaming (talk/text), meaning that everywhere you go, you will be able to get AT LEAST talk and text. On the regular cricket network, you get EVERYTHING.
Your phone is actually connected to sprints tower because sprint is the roaming partner with cricket. the agreement DOES NOT allows data usage, only talk/text ( i will assume because talk/text does not takes as much bandwidth as data does)
So, to sum-up:
ANY DUAL-BAND PHONE on a AWS market will be on a "Roaming Partner Network"
This is because you are using SPRINTS network (or any other romaing partner network), and the agreement only lets you use talk/text.
HOWEVER, if you take your phone where cricket offers a native DUAL BAND (800/1900) frequency, you will have data working.
Numerous people are sadly mistaken when it comes they're understanding of the Cricket EVO's functionality in triband areas. They have been lead to believe that it's impossible to get it to work or to get all of its features working, but this is about as far from the truth as it gets. People are quick to rely on information which they haven't actually tested themselves. They're like the folks in Columbus's day who didn't believe that the earth is round, but here are the facts...I live in Chicago, which is a triband area, and have been using a fully flashed Cricket EVO for quite some time now with out a single problem whatsoever. Everyone one of my features work perfectly fine, and my network is NOT roaming. Looks like Cricket EVOs work in triband areas afterall!
yeah you're not the first person to say that, but no one's been able to prove it. or show how to do it.

Last i checked(for weeks) It couldn't be done on cricket. I've had voice but had to use clear for data.
so yyeah i've searched all EVO forums for Cricket and Triband and there's no thread that posts a solution, there are only 3 threads as a matter of fact.
So which thread were you talking about?
bumping this one, willing to donate to a dev of your choice if someone can help me get this EVO working in st. louis. i understand the AWS issues, but i think as a lot have said, that its possible in AWS markets. im willing to try anything. internet works great here with full 3g, just no getting cricket programming when *228, and *22804 does nothing but sit and then hand up. 611 says your account can not be validated.
I successfully flashed the CDMA Desire with a Sprint Radio off the Evo. It's baseband 2.15.00.09.01
I also installed PRL 60677 from sprint. I also tried the Cyanogen MOD.
It's currently running the alltel ROM so I can get access to the dialing codes in the PRL but even though I flashed the RADIO and the PRL it still shows the network as alltel and it won't let me get access in menu>settings>Wireless networks>mobile network
I can turn it on. But it either seems to take a long time to turn off, or go off by itself, not sure which. But once its on it is greyed out and won't let me get access to it.
I thought maybe it was the PRI, but I don't see how that could be. Is there some sort of Initial Program Loader from alltel doing this can someone tell me why it won't pick up on a sprint network that I have for cdma like connecting or sharing a connection etc... and won't get off U.S. Cellular network?
I might just try flashing to verizon and see what happens just to observe. It should be a lot easier than flashing to sprint.
edit: I did change all the dialing codes to sprint in the ## menu btw. I used the codes from another sprint Phone.
EDIT: It also won't turn off always when I hit Airplane mode and constantly says "Turning on...." and won't give access when to "Mobile Network" when you hold down the power button and that menu comes up.
I used the original Stock RUU to switch back. It changed the baseband and everything else back and also got rid of my clockwork recovery in the process
The only thing it didn't change is the PRL. I had to redownload that and manually rechange the codes in the ## secret dialing menu's.
As far as I understand I will need to change the esn or have this esn to sprint to be able to get it working on a sprint network. It is very difficult thing to do so I will have to postpone this. I'm thinking there might be some code or something in one of the abstraction layers or HAL layers that is preventing you from changing the esn somewhow... not really sure but that seems like the best place for me to look as it is the interface between the software and hardware. The hardware is there and able to do it, so it must be the most basic software or HAL that is preventing me from doing it I am guessing. BTW this is not illegal. I own my phone. If anything it's illegal for someone to sell me crap that doesn't work the way it should because of bogus programming that's been put on my phone to prevent me from using it! And nikola tesla invented the radio btw where is the money and credit he deserves for this?!
Hey man,
I am trying to do something like this for my wife. I'll let you know how it goes once I get the phone. In the meantime, maybe this might help you?

I know it's not quite the same - taking VZW phone onto Sprint Network, but I thought it might help you out.
I'll post my experience later when I get the phone next week.
Thanks,
-Marcus

I don't think that's quite the same thing. I read through the post and a lot of it didn't make a whole lot of sense. Generally you have to have a compabible esn with the network you want to use. Every carrier has a database of all the esn's that are registered and available to use their service. If you try to connect to their service their software will recognize the esn as false and not grant service even if you install all the correct radio's/basebands, PRL files, Firmware, etc... it just won't work because you don't have an esn in their database so you have no authority to connect to their network. So you have to change the esn. But it's not such a simple thing to change an esn. I'm guessing its written in hexadecimal somewhere in the registry, but maybe not. There are certain command sets like the Haye's command set that only apply to CPU or other hardware like modem/Radio. There is an RIL which communicates between a driver, the modem/radio, and the OS. I'm guessing the esn is communicated and retrieved by the RIL layer that communicates via proxy & a driver or in one other PPP protocol that apparently only communicates with the network at certain times suspiciously. That's because the ESN is apparently located in the radio/modem and people have successfully changed their esn by changing their modem and installing a different one. A modem is essentially an ultra small electronic radio. In the same way that a radio picks up signals out of the air and converts to sound, a modem picks up signals also and can convert to sound as well as internet data, text messaging, etc...
If your radio doesn't have the proper command sets it can not pick up on certain signals such as for example sprint 1900 MHz for a sprint radio/baseband version vs a 900MHz signal for a 900 MHz Verizon. Each carriers software might be set up to block the other carriers signals in certain ways. For example each carrier has roaming agreements with the other carriers so that when you go out of your host carriers network say from Verizon into Sprint then you can "roam" and still get coverage. Sprint in this case provides the coverage and therefore they have an agreement to use each others network to provide better coverage. They may also pay each other small fees to use their network. Roaming, carrier type, cell number, mobile network operator, ip addresses, etc... can all be preprogrammed into CDMA handsets through ## secret dialing modes. This only works on CDMA handsets or in CDMA mode on your phone (i.e. not GSM). Usually on HTC devices you press ##775# to update a PRL file which is the Preferred Roaming List. That is usually easy enough, but this may not always update all your phones programming and you may have to do so manually through other ## dialing codes such as Primary HA secondary HA MCC (Mobile Country code) MNC (Mobile Network code) etc... Even if you do all that though it serves no purpose if the esn isn't registered to the network that you want to use. Generally only Cricket and MetroPCs in the USA will register a CDMA esn to use on their handsets. All the other carriers like Sprint, Att, Verizon, etc... generally won't do it, hence you can't get CDMA service from them if you have a CDMA capable handset even if you update all of your files as there is a program that is run on behalf of the carriers that manually checks your phones ESN/MEID/etc... to see if you have the "proper Credentials" or authorization to use their network. In this case the authorization is given on whether or not if your ESN is in their database and that it aslo can be in their database but blacklisted or grey listed in the case of you have an innactive account and need to pay them to get it "white Listed" or if you have a debt on your account or the phone is reported stolen it may be "black Listed". Usually you can flash to Cricket or MetropCs fairly easily though and they will even do it for you for a small fee.
I work as an RF Technician and I occasionally install in-building amplifiers for Sprint. My company just recently bought me a Samsung Galaxy Nexus to do my testing on. They went with this phone for the tethering option which allows me to do EVDO speed tests. What I need is the code, if there is one, to view the screen that shows RSSI, Ec/Io, PN, etc. Anyone have that? I searched the forums and have only been able to find *#*#786#*#* and *#*#4636#*#* which do not show the information I need.
I am assuming it is *#*#33284#*#* which takes me to another screen that needs a passcode. The code to my old phone does not work on this one. Anyone have a guess as to what that might be?
Well just trying out any dumb word that popped into my head i tried "sprint" (777468) as the password which worked. So just in case anyone else is looking for it
*#*#33284#*#*
Code = 777468
Shows signal levels for CDMA and EVDO as well as tower information.
