Phones that are easy to port from? - Samsung Captivate Glide

Probably getting this phone tomorrow and the dev section looks great but I'd like some more selections. I know on my skyrocket, the tmob gs2 is our sister phone and porting from that is very easy. I was wondering if there's any phones like that for the glide?

Galaxy R I guess.

Motorola Atrix??
They both have the same Tegra 2 chipset, but you would have to rescale for a lower resolution...

Galaxy r is your best bet, almost the exactly same specs

Alright, anything I need to know before I go porting? Like is there any different steps I need to take?

Do you actually know how to port or you're just asking in general? I've been reading up on how to port, and it's quite intriguing, and doesn't seem all too difficult. I wouldn't mind lending you a hand or learning along the way if you know how. I may take a stab at porting in the near future

Ive ported a couple things from the tmob s2 to the skyrocket but their almost exactly the same phone. Like you can flash the others roms and just have to fix rotation.

Anyone try this yet?

Got this in a drippler update today. It claims to be a sgs III rom ported to the sgs II. I have no idea if it works but looked interesting. Anyone else see this or give it a try?

It's not a port, just some apks thrown in from S3 I believe

Yeah it was done by one of our xda members sacrmon spelled his name wrong. Lol
Ah ok I didn't get a chance to look at it real close. It sounded cool at a quick glance.

Working on porting it... it's just so damn big and I"m hitting invisible walls...
I'm trying to leave as much intact as possible but after stripping it down it's still a 750mB system...
Edit: Trying to port SGS3, not S2 mockup.

Switching to One V

I'm currently thinking bout switching from a galaxy s2 skyrocket to the one v but am lookin for users suggestions on how this phone is for everyone. Also looking at a rating on ease of rooting and custom software

It's a fine phone. Coming from a 4.3" device it will take some time getting used to the screen size though. But once you do it's pretty great.
Rooting is rather noob-friendly, I think, although there aren't too many custom roms yet. That will change in the near future.
Yea I've already got a build environment set up on a Linux so shouldn't be to hard to build

Question as well does anyone know the dialer codes for this phone? Haven't been able to find them
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-I727 using xda app-developers app
I am a total noob and I have the one v I was able to root with out bricking so I would be willing to bet you will not have any probs
I'm a noob to, just joined today. I currently have a Bold9900 which is from Rogers, I unlocked it and took it to virgin for a cheaper plan. Although getting tired of blackberry itself cause this phone freezes 3 times a day, I have to pop the battery every time. I was thinking of switching over to the HTC One V
It seems like a decent phone.. I'm not the type of person to have the "latest and greatest" And i certainly don't fancy those 4+ inch mini-tablet super-phones like the Nexus 4 or the Galaxy S3... Even the One X is slightly to big for my liking... I also prefer expandable memory, which the One S doesn't have but the One V does.
This One V would be my FIRST Android phone ever. All I've ever had was Blackberry and an old Motorola. So I think it would be a good Android entry level phone.
Or choice is good although one backside is its a single core phone

Project Roadrunner? 4.2

Has anybody heard of this? I did a quick lazy glance here and didn't see it posted so I thought I would. Looks pretty amazing with new features and improving Gnow and improved battery life for Android users. Of course the main concern is in order for us to experience we might have to switch phones or of course wait on our devs to do their amazing work. Thoughts??

I always keep a backup device. I still have my Vibrant as a backup. And it is running JB now. No one even thought users would stay active after GB.

To be honest I have no idea if I will but if it's still holding up I might be. Either way I'll probably still own it and use it for a backup! Unless It's lost or breaks I don't replace my phone every year.. I got mine in March which makes it only about 7 months since I first bought it

Lol I know what you mean. But this s2 isn't just any phone, it was built for things beyond what it came with. All I'm saying is if you want this new OS then of course Nexus will be the phone of choice not Samsung and etc. But this phone is good for 2 years in my opinion. I'm also cheap and don't switch phones every few months or every year lol

Look at the HTC HD2. It only had Windows Mobile 6. Now it has JB, WP7, Ubuntu, and soon to be Windows 8/WP8.

Your point? We all have to move on at some point. By the time this phone gets 4.2 we'll have some really amazing devices on the market that will make this phone seem like it was from the stone age. Just like this phone makes that HD2 seem like its from the stone age. Idk how people are still using that thing. That snapdragon CPU was a boat compared to other SoCs like hummingbird during its time.

I think my next one will be a nexus.. There should be some nice ones coming out soon..
I was thinking.. I'm sure that the galaxy Nexus is a shoe in to get 4.2 and if it can handle the software I am sure that this phone can too!.. It's unlike that tmobile will put in the resources to update this phone after JB but it might be a slim possibility.. Especially since we will have the option whether or not to have OEM skins

Officially I don't think this phone is getting past ICS. I have high doubts about an official TW JB update for it. Only the international GSII has been officially confirmed. As we all know that phone and every other GSII has the exynos SoC so I wouldn't doubt the others can get it easily. But since we have the s3.. idk.
Sent from my SAMSUNG-SGH-T989 using xda premium
And I just wanna state that it's obvious that Google is listening to what people want and trying to add it to software updates! We have all been talking about how nice it would be if we had a choice of AOSP or OEM.. And voila! Google goes ahead and appears to be implementing it!.. This is totally opposite of other mobile operating systems (not naming names) that always hold back the features... This is why I will probably stay loyal to android for a long time!

Amazing... something long overdue IMHO, but better late than never (in terms of the manufacturer bloat/customization thing).
Also... I think I read something about multiple Nexus devices on their way? Very exciting!
Yes I've heard of at least 2 nexus devices!.. An LG nexus device will be released by the end of October..The name Samsung Nexus 2 has been thrown around a bit. and I think there will be one by HTC as well..

You do know you can google all this and your asking about phones in a section of people who probably dont own either 1. Stroll over to Note section and read Stroll over to HTC One section and check out the rom selection. Why do you need others to make up your own mind or persuade you with so much info out there at your disposal
Sorry don't mean to be rude just never understood why others create threads for other strangers to tell them what to get. Too each his own though.. But you crazy for getting a Note with the Note 2 out for that matter just keep your phone... Jus' Sayin'
Lmao. Thanks for you 2 cents. I went all up and down the internet, just wanted to get some feedback from the people I've trusted with my s2.. that's all. Hard to make the decision on my end because they are both good. Tired of my s2 just wanted something newer different and not wanting to spend 600. I can break even selling my s2 and buying either note or one x. I went to booth threads and even put questions in there. Just want all the info I can get.

Forum Flat line?

I'm a flashaholic to be honest. I've been spoiled with the EVO 4G, MoPho, and GNexus.
Coming from that, this phones close to dead. Thinking about switching to Note 2 or Galaxy S3 simply for developer sake.
So my point is, what's the road map for this phone? It has strong points, but no substance.
Any news on Gento ports?
Ubuntu Mobile?
MIUI?
Paranoid?
CM10.1?
If all this is going on in the background , aka on irc, why not utilize the forums? They're here for a reason

I understand what he means, and i know he means no harm. I feel the same at times. All i hear is to stick with it stick with it. all i can say is blame LG or stick with it in hopes!! Might take too long for some of us. ill prob hold on for a month more before i jump ship. these devs can only do so much. Some times it really comes down to what phone and which devs are on what phone. some have more time than others thats all..I can not see LG completely neglecting this phone though..
