the best way to update - Galaxy Note II Q&A, Help & Troubleshooting

hi guys ...
i have Samsung Galaxy Note II GT-N7100, rooted and running stock JB 4.1.1. i want to update the stock rom. i know how but i am asking about the best way to do that. for example, can i do it without losing any data, what is the easiest and fastest way, should i just backup my data and download the rom and install it then restore the data or unroot the device, update from the device itself and then root it again or is there another (better) way.

First download firmware from www.sammobile.com and flash it via Odin PC.
1.put your phone in download mode ( first make sure Usb debugging is ticked in settings and developer options )
2.open odin on pc and connect your phone to pc via usb cable ( make sure usb drivers for sgn2 installed on pc ).
3.as soon as odin detects your phone click in odin on PDA button and browse to firmware you downloaded from sammobile.
4.click start.... and wait.
It will finish in 10 min.
Last updated firmware N7100XXDMB6 - France .

U can update right to stock jb 4.1.2 with kies via pc, if u want to root it and go that route go download Odin 1.85 and this recovery http://techerrata.com/browse/twrp2/hercules, put device in download mode (shut it off, hold vol+vol- while connecting to PC via USB) open Odin and select PDA and nothing else, find the tar file 2.6 0.0 for Hercules, open it and hit start in Odin, it will flash the recovery and reboot the phone, now DL su.zip and flash in recovery bam ur rooted

You need to unroot. Use triangle away to reset counter and then flash stock again and then factory reset. If your not rooted then I dont know.

Since you've rooted you will not be able to update official firmwares from samsung through kies or OTA.
If you still require to update through kies first you've to unroot and the device status to normal. Follow the below instructions and you'll be fine.
1) installed pre-rooted firmware or root it again
2) Use Triangle away to reset counter Mod
3) Use titanium backup to wipe data from Enterprise Sysscope and Sysscope ( Sysscope may be frozen so, de-frost it and then wipe data).
4) Format the Ext SD card as it may contain some backups which might trigger the modified status
5) Use Root explorer to delete busybox from system/xbin/busybox (Since full Unroot will not delete busybox, the Sysscope will scan the phone for this after boot and change the Status to modified)
6) Full unroot using Super user
7) Reboot and enjoy
Hi All,
I'm facing a similar issue on my Note II.
I used Dr Ketan's guide to root and reverted the firmware to a UK stock early this year but has since gotten a
"Your device's current firmware version is not supported to update firmware via Kies"
My device is now unrooted and counter is reset (status is normal).
According to my research, this could be due to a CSC mismatch but can't find anything wrong with it.
This is what I'm on at the moment,
AP: N7100XXDME6
CP: N7100XXDMF1
CSC: N7100OXDMF1
It's the lastest UK stock firmware but I had to install it using Odin instead of Kies.
Any suggestions will be greatly appreciated.
Cheers.
That's strange, i have a rooted phone, made with chainfire autoroot method, and i just upgrade the firmware with kies without any trouble. No unroot and no wipe before update. It's a stock firmware with root.

Try using * # 272 * your IMEI #
This will pop up a list of CSC. Choose your original one and it should be okay.
Note: Changing the CSC using this method will factory reset your phone without any warning
Download and install Kies 3. Connect the phone. Kies will inform you that the connection failed. Leave the device plugged in and go to the menu bar, tools, reinstall device drivers. Leave the phone connected while the device drivers reinstall and it should work from there.

[Q] problem with the boot loader

Hey guys .. at first I tried to upgrade my Android from 4.1.2 to 4.3 using odin
And it crached and the phone can't opened and says need to connect to the recovery mode in Kies but it doesn't recognise when I connected it
And when I tried to install the software again and no response ...
Please help me
Thank you
If you can still go into download mode, try using another version of odin.

can't update my 4.1.1 phone. tried software update and odin

my phone is 4.1.1 and i want to update to 4.3 or 4.4, whatever is currently out.
software update doesnt work in the About Device screen. I click it and nothing happens. at all, as if i ne ver touched it.
I tried using this guide http://www.xda-root.com/2014/07/download-install-android-4.4.4-kitkat-update-galaxy-s3-sgh-i747.html
Requires using ODIN and i did try it but ODIN will NOT recognize my phone at all when i plug it via usb cable, no matter what port i use. non-odin wise my pc can always read it.
What am i doing wrong?
I did have a superuser "root" in the past. when the software update didnt work, i uninstalled that and tried the guide again to no avail. do i need to reroot for odin to work, if so, whats the easiest way to root now? is there another option for me to update easily without messing up my phone?
thanks!
You need to be running a completely stock unrooted ATT 4.1.1 ROM with a stock recovery for OTA updates to work.
You're in download mode when connecting to Odin? You've installed the necessary Samsung USB drivers?
This is the recovery flashable stock
https://mega.co.nz/#!NpxzBI5J!PIMgiCZXFPiN0Y1n3f4a7UL9hqT2MW44VCt6zipu5PA
I got it some where here on XDA
After this you will be totally stock 4.1.1

The simplest method may be to flash back to completely stock using the ATT 4.1.1 firmware from sammobile.com using Odin 3.07.

will flashing back to stock wipe my stuff?
thanks!
btw, arent i arleady on stock 4.11?
Did your phone take the OTA update?
Yes, flashing back to stock via Odin will wipe out your files which means you should copy the files to your computer or external SD card.

Possible solution for Galaxy Note 2 N7100 WiFi problem

Dear friends
I'm going to describe the steps i took for fixing the WiFi problem of my Samsung Galaxy Note 2 N7100.
The problem started last january, when the device got the latest 4.4.2 update from Samsung. By that time, it was not rooted.
WiFi started to turn off by itself, WiFi slider was grey and wont turn on again, searching for ip adress, etc...
I did everything i could find over the internet and nothing fixed it, after 1 month of search i was about to give up.
1. Flash stock 4.3 ROM from Sammobile using Odin 3.09, in my case the ROM was this:http://www.sammobile.com/firmwares/download/23564/N7100UBUEMK4_N7100ZTOEMK3_ZTO/
I tried this with the lates 4.4.2 ROM without success.
2. Do a data wipe/factory reset from the stock recovery utility.
3. Flash philz_touch_6.48.4-n7100 recovery utility using Odin 3.09. File here: https://goo.im/devs/philz_touch/CWM_Advanced_Edition/n7100/philz_touch_6.48.4-n7100.zip.md5/
4. Root your device by installing SuperSU-v2.40 from philz recovery utility. Get it here: http://download.chainfire.eu/641/SuperSU/UPDATE-SuperSU-v2.40.zip
5. Install NI1 Bootloader using Odin 3.09 with the BL tab, get it here http://forum.xda-developers.com/showpost.php?p=54320353
6. Install NI1 patched modem from philz recovery utility, get it here: https://www.dropbox.com/s/m950i4l27cpksrb/NI1_modem.zip?dl=0
7. I'm very happy with Android 4.3 and WiFi working again, if you wanna try to update to 4.4.2, do it at your own risk.
Good Luck
Special thanks to Androidwizzard
