Dongle pay it forward - Captivate Accessories

I purchased a dongle to put my Captivate in download mode. Being unable to get my Captivate into download mode was very frustrating. So I would like to pass it along to another who needs it.
The catch is this, first come, first serve, and when your done with it, hand it over to someone else. I'll pay for your shipping, and you pay to ship it to the next person receiving it. I will send it the cheapest way possible without insurance.
Use my email [email protected]

Since they're pretty cheap and you can make one for cheap as well...
Why don't you keep it just in case you need it again? I've used my jig on more than one occasion.

I followed one of the instructables on creating a jig and it literally cost me 15 dollars and I've used it 3 times now. Anyone frequently flashing should consider it as part of the condom approach to flashing.
I like the human kindness aspect but you should definitely hang on to it.

My EVO Woes - I need your help!

I have been a long time member of this great community for a number of years. It is filled with a great bunch of people. I am call on you EVO owners who have had to have their phones swapped out for ANY reason to please let me know what issues you have had and when.
Let me bring you all up to speed...
I became a Sprint customer on July 12th, 2010. I purchased an EVO from a store on 87th & Cicero in Chicago, IL. After a few weeks of use there was a bright spot on the LCD right under the "B" on the keyboard. I called the Sprint store where I was then referred to a service center. The service center informed me that they did not have ant EVO's for replacement and did not expect to get any in for a few weeks. I explained to them that I was a new customer and I did not want to be outside of the 30 day window with a defective device. The lady that I spoke with on the phone said that she made a note on my account and that I would have the 30 day window extended.
So I waited 2 weeks...
I got a refurbished phone sent out to me from the Sprint service center in Orland Park, IL. Upon receiving the new EVO I powered it on and found that it had dead pixels, light leakage at the bottom of the LCD, AND the battery back wouldn't stay on (I tried the new back and my original one). I sent my original phone back and then went to the Orland Park, IL Sprint store about 5-6 days later. After arguing with the service personnel and the manager they magically were able to find an EVO in the back of the store. I powered it on and inspected the screen and looked for issues. At the time I couldn't find any.
Yesterday (9/29/2010) my Micro HDMI cable arrived. Upon connecting it to my TV the notification popped up and I tried to play a video. The screen went black and there was no signal or picture on the TV. I tried 2 other TV's and the same thing happened. I did notice that the HDMI port has a bit if play to it which leads me to believe that I have a defective port.
Where I am at now:
I called Sprint last night and worked my way up to a supervisor. I explained my situation like I have explained here and told him that I want a NEW device as that is what I paid for originally. He said that there are none for warranty use but I could BUY one for $600. I told him that I was not going to pay for something that isn't my fault. After going back and forth for a few minutes I gave him this ultimatum. 1. You give me a new phone; ship it to a local Sprint store. 2. You let me leave Sprint without paying a termination fee. He said no to both of those. I finally got fed up and explained to him that if this is not fixed I will be getting legally involved. He then informed me that he is going to have someone higher up than him call me tomorrow around 4pm Mountain time.
I am now waiting for that call. But while waiting in the event that nothing is going to be done I want to get a list of people who have had to swap their EVO out for hardware issues so that if I have to take it to court to get this resolved I have some evidence to show that it’s not just me. I know people are reluctant to give out their info on a public forum so if you could PM or email (Timothy.Hoogland (AT) Gmail.com) your name, city, and state at the LEAST I would GREATLY appreciate it. If you would feel comfortable sending more info, phone, address, etc., that would be even more appreciated. I am not going to legally obligate anyone who sends me their info. This is merely a petition of sorts to show that there ARE problems with these phones.
Sorry for the long winded post and thank you for your time,
~Timothy Hoogland

Not that I can be of much help...but did he mention he saw the 30 day window extension? I'm wondering if the rep noted it.
I'm also curious why he wanted you to pay $150 over retail to buy a new one.
30 day warranty is 30 day warranty. You have 30 days to test everything. Outside of that you have to have the extended warranty and pay the replacement fee.
Tim,
I can understand your frustrations but I would get Customer Service involved instead of the local store. Remain pleasant as hard is it may be at times and you will get your issue resolved.
So currently the only main issue you have it that the HDMI cable that you purchased to connect the HTC EVO to your HDMI TV does not function at all correct? And it has some play. I would concern myself with the cable end and not your port as much since this is the first time(assumption) that you plugged any HDMI cable to your phone correct?
Have you tested the cable? Have you used one of their cables? It would be adviseable before you escalate this to a civil suit that you try to eliminate your assumptions and get actual facts.
If my cables were in I would send you one no charge. China shipping is always delayed one reason or another.
In the meantime I ask around the Sprint Stores for a cable that you can purchase and return to test out your port and eliminate the cable as being the problem. I had play on one of my Micro USB cables and it was the end of the cable not my phone. There was a lot of wiggle room when you think there isn't that much but it wiggled and I thought it was the USB connector on the phone when in fact it was the cables end. Not all cables are equal even from the same company.
Check that first so that you can narrow down your possibilities. Call Customer Service and just explain it and I am sure you will find a resolution.
Good luck and let us know.
I tried another cable today. My co-worker has the radio shack one and I have mono-price. Neither work.
I understand 30 days is 30 days but I was told one thing and now I am getting told another.
Extended does not mean a fresh 30 days. Even with rough calculations on your time line it would seem you have had your current evo for a while. Failure to test is not sprints fault. Have you had store techs test the port? I haven't used the feature but isn't the port limited on what content it displays out? Y
Regardless of the cable, not all tv's support the hdmi output from the evo (or the droid x, or any of the other hdmi capable phones that are out). Do the TV's that you've been testing all support the latest HDMI specs? Older TV's don't, and only support an older spec - which I don't think work with the EVO, and may cause the issues you're seeing. Certain cables only support older specs also, so that may come into play too.
Edit - the above may have been resolved in the latest update, but there's a thread in the htc forums saying that there's a known issue with the evo and HDMI on 2.2, where the notification will pop up, but not display anything. That being said, if the TV in question doesn't support 720p over hdmi, it definately won't work.
Just double checking on the hdmi out, is that the only problem with the new one you have? Yes, try another cable and you didn't specify, just to make sure, what app where you attempting to use via hdmi out, and on what kernel?
I tried one of the cheap HDMI cables when I got my EVO, didn't work. I ordered one from Sprint online, was like $36 shipped, it works fine.
If it is a true hardware issue with your EVO, like a broken HDMI port, they usually will replace your phone at a Sprint service/repair store during the 1 year warranty. If you have the TEP it's even better. Just don't be so dead set on a BRAND NEW EVO, usually you get a refurb on a new phone that is in high demand.
I gave my daughter my old WinMo Touch Pro (we have the TEP on her account 'cause she likes to drown the darn things for some odd careless reason) but the phone is over 3 years old. The screen started flickering on/off, I called Sprint, they had me (her) take it to a service/repair store. No questions asked, they just gave her a refurb'ed Touch Pro 2. No deductable, he just said normal wear and tear.
Funny how Shroomz isn't all over this post yet telling you he will save you because he makes 40k LMAO.
My girlfriend had a very similar problem. I just called and called and called. I had everyone I ever spoke to put a note in her account. I finally got someone who called me back and made it right. I did have to say if he ever talked to my or anyone elses girlfriend and told them company bs until she cried, I'd make sure it was on the 6 o'clock news.
Good luck

You're cute treckin. You really think with youre income you will be able to do anything even remotely close to damaging Sprints image? It would have been done long ago. Youll just look like an idiot, that is if the news even cares to place you on tv. You might get a spread on page 18 of their paper.
As for the OP, be careful, 30 day extensions do not exist. Return the phone and wait until a new one comes to the store and grab that.

Sounds to me like he paid his money and is attempting to uphold his end of his contract, but Sprint is either unwilling or unable to take care of their end, which was a fully functioning EVO.
I anxiously await your reply.

Lmao, that's funny, sorry nothing to contribute, other than I'd say to put insurance on your phone then run it over, you will get a new one, or root it and throw a rom and kernel in it and sell it on ebay for more than you paid, tell them it gets free apps and free wifi and grants you three wishes..

[LIST CLOSED (for now)] Group XTC Clip buy?

OK, in the spirit of what ACD168 started, would anyone be interested in going in on an XTC clip? I would have rather waited for Alpharev, but I'm going over seas in a few weeks and want to unlock the SIM on my company DINC2 so I can call the wife and kids with my own card which only the XTC clip can do.
So...I'm going to buy an XTC clip regardless, but I figure if a bunch of folks want in it can benefit more than one person.
I'll front the money on a regular XTC clip (not pay as you go) - I'm looking for 10 people (makes math easy after a rockin 4th of July party weekend), but I would take whatever number of people want in.
With the current Euro exchange rate it would be about $14 each which is cheaper than the Pay as you Go credit.
And as ACD168 alluded to - karma is a *****; it will mess with you if you mess with it. This is an honor system!
What do you all think?
Mods, if you feel like this post is out of line just delete it.
Thanks, Matt.

I"m possibly interested, do you just ship it to the next person after you use it?
From what I understand its pretty easy windows software...kind of like Unrevoked 1-click root if you had an Inc1.
The way I see it geography isn't an issue...we'll just ship it to each other which shouldn't be very expensive.
I think I'm in, $14 isn't too bad at all. I'll have to look up what exactly it does.
If it's as easy as unrevoked on the inc1, it can't get any easier.
Once you run this, it's S-OFF and rooted?
I'd be down.

I can send it out from my work after I use it with Fed Ex Over Night for free. So I know geography (as long as in ConUS) is not an issue from me to next person.
Once you run this your phone is S-Off, and completely SIM unlocked. It doesn't install the su apk or any custom hboot, recovery, etc. However this has already been put together by jcase, so you would just flash a new recovery/hboot and your off an running and ready to install a new ROM.
looks like there are 4 interested so far. Like I said I already ordered the clip so as soon as I get it i'll just send it out to cadon69 who can send it to Istarr, etc.
Paypal for the $14...but I'll get that info out later after there is enough interest
just my luck.. hours after i purchase a pay as you go from ebay, these threads come up..
I'm interested. Sign me up and let me know how we'll get you the $14 and how we go about tracking the usage and sending from one person to the next.

XTC Clip Shipping/Sharing

I have a feeling that a lot of people will be receiving XTC clips soon. Would any of you be feeling so kind as to share them with other XDA members? Personally I would be willing to pay the shipping both ways (I'm in San Diego), for my credit if it's a pay as you go model, and whatever reasonable fee on top of that you feel like charging. This might be a good way to make back some of the money you sank on the clip, and for me it's probably faster than waiting for a clip to get here from Europe or China.
Please reply here or PM me if interested
i'd be willing to. just have to wait for it to get here, hopefully next week.
Cool, thanks, I'll probably take you up on that unless someone offers one up sooner than that. PM me when you get it to sort out payment details.
Not trying to mooch or anything... But I'd be willing to pay as well if anybody's up for it.

[Q] Used Odin but I'm going to a Sprint repair store tomorrow, soo..

Two questions.
1. If I take it into the sprint store will the Odin count matter? will they even check? (anyone have a experience with this)
2. I know about the Usb jig, but is there a alternative?
I don't have time or resources available to make one, I don't have time to order one since my 14 days with sprint are almost up and Im giving up on them. Im gonna cancel the contract, SGS2 LOS is too bad, I can't depend on a maybe fix and I don't trust in Sprint's coverage.
Gonna go back to tmobile or ATT.
any other thoughts feel free to comment.
thanks
I would say they wont check the count, but that's gonna vary depending on stores and techs..
as far as the jig.. It's quite easy to make one, and cost less that 5 bucks..
Sent from my PG86100 using XDA App
I saw the video for the jig it didn't seem that easy. maybe the vid I saw was just bad. i'll check for others.
and as for stores, i thought the same... but don't wanna take a chance. if Sprint fixed there reception issues it would this decision so much easier.
you can probably get one off amazon with next day shipping, but you'll pay a lot more for shipping.
would post a link but I can't, just search USB jig on amazon and it's the first one for 9.99 from sain store.
$13.98 with next day shipping.
So I made my own usb jib, honestly though regardless if you think you can make it or not. In my case it wasn't worth it.
It's only cheaper if you buy everything online but I have 4 days until my windows period to cancel contract is up. and that aside, waiting 1 - 2 weeks for a USB cable in the mail is no at all convenient.
also most people don't have solder's in there house lying around.

QBKING77 has a video on youtube on how to reset the counter/get rid of the triangle using the usb cable and some program on your computer
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ySskTt-S-cM
Well it gets rid of the yellow triangle.
Typically if the triangle doesn't exist the techs won't check for the count.

I like to prepare for the worst, that's why I made/used the jib. it's just too expensive unless you have a solder and spare micro USB cable.
and or the record, I live in a maximum coverage 3G and 4G area and sprint sucks. unless it's the SGS2, idk. im not waiting to find out lol
Most techs aren't even aware of Odin on the E4GT. The only ones that know are the ones that carry them and are into modding.
One of my techs has absolutely no clue about anything regarding the E4GT and the other (that has one) isn't aware of Odin at all.

[Q] Tips to not getting ripped off?

Hey guys, assuming all goes well I am going to buy a e4gt off someone from craigslist and was wondering what I should do to make sure it works 100% aside from checking the ESN (which I believe I can use an app to do right?) Any tips will be greatly appreciated!
Have them meet you at a Sprint store.
Sent from my SPH-D710 using xda premium
I would say, the most important is making sure you can activate it. (making sure the esn is clean) not too sure if there's an app that can do that though. not to my knowledge. and of course make sure it turns on!! lol. check camera make sure lens aint scratched up. and anything software wise, wouldn't matter cause you could always factory reset everything.
Tip to not get ripped off: Don't buy it from Craigs List... just my advice
You have very limited legal recourse if something goes wrong. If you do insist on purchasing this device from some random person on CraigsList here are a few things I would do if I were you..
Print the listing of the device off of CraigsList and keep it for your personal records
Take a pen and some paper, you'll need this in reasons I'll mention later
Take someone with you to witness the transaction
Pay with cashiers check or money order
Get a receipt!!!!!!! Have the seller sign it along with your signature, make two copies, one for you and one for them. Get the person you take with you to write the documents and sign it as a witness
If you have to pay cash, make sure you have proof of withdrawing that amount from your bank, don't use an ATM
Ask to get a warranty ensuring fuctionality and ability to activate the phone in writing and have both parties sign the document, again not just verbally. Get the person you take with you to write the documents and sign it as a witness
Call Sprint to check the ESN, don't just rely on the app to check it
Make sure the seller can provide you with a valid ID so you can get their home address and other information just in case you MIGHT need the information later
Basically you want to protect yourself from being ripped off
By getting their personal information, you will know who to contact if you need to sue them in small claims court. The steps above will also help protect you in the case you do need to take them to court
If they're not willing to do any of the steps, you might want to consider backing off from making the purchase
Sure this might seem overkill, I think they are good steps to take though
I know this is going to sound funny or silly or what ever, most of the tips I have given I have learned from watching judge shows!!

Thanks for the responses guys. I had written craigslist to keep things simple, but judging by how much the situation changes when its someone you don't know, to clarify I am buying it from someone I know who has a connection with someone else, so I essentially do have a guarantee for getting my money back.
I have purchased and sold so many things on craigslist and truthfully I have never gotten ripped off. One time I bought something that was defective but the person claimed they never knew and gave my money right back.

Same here. I have bought and sold many of things on CL, and things usually go well, Although the post above with the suggestions is a good idea. It may seem like overkill, and some of it may be, but precaution is always best when dealing with CL, its sooo random.

Hahahahahahaha is it me or the pay by check and receipt line definitely made me laugh... Thousands of transactions happen on Craigslist without an issue but the dozens that go through hit the web and the world is now afraid... I have sold a dozen or more phones on Craigslist without an issue. Just did a Iphone for a Galaxy 2 trade yesterday. Don't look like or act like a victim and have a little street smarts and you will be ok...
Surprise you did not ask them to fill out a W-9 for the sale.....LOL
I got my et4g on craigslist with no problems. The key is know what you are buying and to meet at a Sprint store. I got a near Mint one for 275 in the phx area. I didn't pay the guy till the service was on my phone either. First time getting a phone used and it was easy. Good luck
